For Birth Control "December 1, 2008, I had the Implanon inserted and have had problems since. I have mood swings like crazy. I am now taking depression and anxiety pills because they think it was postpartum depression. It's not, though. I have been snapping at my 7-month-old son and husband. I was admitted to Green Leaf since they thought I was a danger to my family. Turned out that the Implanon is causing this. I cry all the time for no reason, and I am now taking depression and anxiety pills. I bleed all the time. The Implanon has been hurting since I had it done, I have gained 25 lbs because of this as well. I am taking it out this week for the sake of me and my family."

For Birth Control "I just got my 3rd rod in Feb. 2015, and I am not sure why I got another one instead of trying something different. It does work very well, but the side effects are terrible. I got on it because I thought it would make my periods go away, and it didn't, it just made them much longer, and I recently had to start taking iron pills to help. The first 2 years, I gained 30 pounds, and I became very depressed and anxious (which is still going on in year 7). I do not sleep very well, and I am not sure if it is the birth control or not, but I am always tired and never have energy. I have a sex drive, but sometimes I get a really sharp pain in my lower stomach that makes me not want to have sex because the pain it causes is not worth it."

For Birth Control "I can honestly say I hate this form of birth control. I never would get a period until a few months ago, and for the past 2 months, it has been nonstop. My mood swings are everywhere. I'm gaining weight like crazy. This birth control is not even worth it."

For Birth Control "I've had my Implanon for about a year now, and I love it. I've had one period that lasted about a week, with very light bleeding. I do, however, get everything that comes with a period: the cramps, mood swings, all the emotions, everything but the bleeding at least once a month, as if I were on my period. Other than that, I have gained weight, but like most people, that's not just because of the birth control."

For Birth Control "I've had the Implanon for just over a year now, and I've never felt so low in my life. I suffer from mental issues, and I feel as this has made it worse. It is good for preventing pregnancy, but the side effects are too scary. I've had multiple pregnancy symptoms, which keep scaring me. I also gain weight, have no motivation to do anything, and really bad mood swings, which affect others around me, so I think it's time to take this thing out and see a bigger difference!"

For Birth Control "The only reason I give this a one is because it is effective. However, I have constant headaches, acne, mood swings, weight gain (over 40 lbs!), and the most important thing is absolutely no sex drive!"

For Birth Control "I had Implanon inserted in June 2015 and currently still have the implant. I have experienced so many body changes that it urged me to look up the side effects. I found all of these posts and can't believe it! It all makes sense now! I have gained almost 10 lbs, have less of a sex drive, feel like a crazy person, my hair stopped growing, and worst of all, I have my period randomly with spotting all the time! It's hard to have sex or want to have sex when you're bloated and spotting 3 weeks out of the month! I am over this! I'm getting this out ASAP! Thank you, ladies!"

For Birth Control "I had the implant in my arm for about 10 months. The only reason why I never got pregnant was because my period lasted for 4-6 weeks, which was the worst side effect. I was very moody and never realized it until people would tell me, and I had to reflect and see myself acting out of the ordinary. Before getting the implant, I was a nice 140 pounds, and then I went to 165 in about 2 months. I'm a professional dancer, and I'm in the gym 5 times a week, and I eat extremely healthy. No matter what I did, I could never lose the weight. I took the implant out about 2 weeks ago. I went from 165 pounds to 157 in that 2 week time. My periods are back to 4 days also. I will never try this again, and I'm looking into different birth controls. Stay away!"

For Birth Control "I have had Implanon since early May 2010, so about 7 months now. I think that Implanon was definitely the right choice for me, but it's different with everyone, and anyone reading these comments should keep that in mind. I was previously on the Depo shot for 2 years and have the same side effects on Implanon that I did with the shot. I haven't gotten my period since it's been in, not even a little bleeding. I have gained about 5-10 pounds, but I am not a very active person. I love not having to worry about getting pregnant or using a condom. The only problem I have had is the extreme bruising and pain when I got it put in, and it took a little over a week to heal all the way, but I have a very minimal scar now."

For Birth Control "I have had my Implanon since the end of November '08, and so far it is great. I love it. Not having to remember anything is amazing (I am the most absent-minded person ever). When it was inserted, I was on my period, it stopped two days later (should have lasted another 5 or 6). I now have my period once every 6 or 7 weeks, and it's for about 8 days, which is longer than normal for me. Cramps and pains have not increased or decreased at all. I've been reading other people's comments on here, and if you are planning on getting Implanon, just keep in mind that everyone is going to react differently to medications, especially birth control. I have not had any more weight gain than with other birth controls. Insertion was fine, just a small scar at the site."

For Birth Control "I got it in Jan 2008. No period for 3 months, then I bled for 2 months straight. After that, 2 periods a month for about 5 days each... EXHAUSTING! Tired, sad, depressed, no sex drive, weight gain, anger, aggressiveness, sweet tooth, but the worst - THE HORRIBLE mood swings! The best thing about it, it didn't hurt when it went in, minimal tenderness after insertion, and I did not get pregnant! I seriously feel like I am going through the change of life at 28 years. I am having it removed in days. No clue as to how to prevent future birth control, but NO MORE HORMONES! Probably won't be an issue, hubby hates the new evil me!"

For Birth Control "I have had the Implanon since June 2015, and I have to say I had no pregnancy, but the only downsides about it were that no one told me I would have bruising for 10 days on my left arm and that it would hurt so much during that time. My periods have always been regular, each month 3-5 days. But the other downside is the weight gain. I always weighed around 140, and I went up to almost 180. That never had happened, and I have been trying to lose weight, but nothing seems to work. It's a great birth control, but the weight is no good."

For Birth Control "I will give this birth control a 5/10 for the simple fact that I did not get pregnant for the 2 years I was on it. But I gained probably about 50 lbs (with no change in my eating habits, and I'm even more active), my boyfriend complained about my mood swings, I bled for the majority of the time whether it was heavy or light... I just couldn't deal. I wish I had come off of it earlier, but I enjoyed not being at risk for pregnancy. I got it taken out today, and I can't wait to get back to normal."

For Birth Control "I have found the implant to be amazing! Have had two so far, so have experienced nearly 6 years of the contraception. With the implant, you never have to worry, I have never experienced any issues. I have not put on weight, lost my sex drive, or experienced heavy periods. In fact, I have no periods, which does slightly worry me, however, I have been assured that this is a normal symptom, and I am not complaining about this. It is quite uncomfortable when changed, as they do have a habit of embedding into the arm tissue, causing a lot of prodding by the nurse, but this is not a painful transition."

For Birth Control "I got this birth control a year and a half ago. For the first year, it was great, no period or anything. I did have some weight gain, about 15 pounds, and it hurts in my arm and took away my sex drive. After a year, I started having my period monthly, and they would last two weeks or more. It made me extremely irritable and moody, and now I have to take the pill and have the bar in to regulate my period, which didn't help my moodiness whatsoever. I feel like I'm constantly hungry, and I'm active in the gym and feel like I haven't lost any weight over an 8-month period. I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I had the Implanon inserted about 7 months ago. Since I had it inserted, I have been struggling with severe migraines, mood swings, acne, intermittent spotting that never really stops and can start at any time, lack of sex drive, and I have gained 12 lbs. I have not changed my eating habits, and I exercise frequently. After reading the reviews, I have now realized what is causing all these issues. I will have it removed and post another update once done. Thank you all for the reviews."

For Birth Control "I had the worst experience with the Implanon implant. I did my research before I got the implant, and it seemed to be a great choice for my first time being on birth control. I was 20 when I got it. The first month, all I wanted to do was SLEEP! All I did was work, eat, and sleep. I tried my hardest to stay up and go out, but I just didn't have the energy. The doctor informed me that I would bleed for about 3 months once I got the implant, and then I would have a period once a month. That was not the case at all. I bled the entire time I had it until I got it removed on 10-23-13 (the best day of my life)! I gained 20 pounds in 7 months, and it was pretty much impossible for me to lose weight. It didn't do anything to my sex drive. Do not get it!"

For Birth Control "I have been using Implanon, now Nexplanon, for 5 years now. (3 years each) This is my second insertion after my first expired. Since then, I haven't had my period in ages. However, my appetite has taken full control, and weight gain came along. Sex drive has slowed down, and mood swings here and there. So yeah, things you will have to work on. Still, no pregnancy at all and no periods. It's like an extended vacation from Mother Nature."

For Birth Control "I've had Implanon for about 3 years now, and it has been super effective in preventing pregnancy, but I plan to have it removed soon. I have gained almost 30 pounds, my hair falls out like crazy, and my hormones are so out of whack. I'm constantly feeling lazy, depressed, and super anxious."

For Birth Control "WORST THING I EVER DID! I have had the implant in my arm for around 2 and a half years, I didn't want to wait till the 3-year mark to get it removed, so I had it taken out today. I gained 28 lb from having it put in my arm with no lifestyle or diet changes. It made me angry and always sad/depressed. I used to be so happy and calm and never got mad easily, but with the implant in, I snapped at everything and had terrible mood swings. It affected me mentally. My periods were very irregular, I could be on for 1 full month and then off for 2 months, then come on for a week and so on. Such a horrible, life-changing drug. The worst thing about it for me was the weight gain, I used to be slim and fit, and now I'm fat, gone up 3 dress sizes! :( not good!"

For Birth Control "I can honestly say I hated this birth control. I haven't stopped bleeding since I got it a year ago. I can't hold anything with my left arm, otherwise, my arm just falls. It's made me gain 40 kgs, and I can't seem to lose it no matter what I try. My sex drive is gone, I'm always sick, and get the worse mood swings. Not something I'll be getting again anytime soon."

For Birth Control "I had my Implanon inserted in October 2009 and had it removed today. At first, I was very happy, felt great, it healed super fast and easy. The skin around it did itch a whole lot. No rash, just incredibly itchy skin! The itching started about 2 weeks after the procedure when the original bruise went away and lasted for another 2 weeks. I was thinking I was allergic to it and almost had it removed, but the itching stopped just as suddenly as it started. I still had my periods, but they were irregular and not very heavy. I did gain 8 lb, not a big deal. Now, the reason I had it removed is I became SUPER emotional, always unhappy for no reason, often tired, had headaches, lost sex drive, and it just kept getting worse."

For Birth Control "This birth control has been hell for me. I've been on the shot, and I had to stop after 2 years because it drove me crazy and I started having bone issues. So I decided to get on Implanon after my daughter. I thought things were going okay, but it is not, and I really need this thing out of me ASAP. Since having this thing in my arm, I've had non-stop spotting and periods all month, no energy, mood swings, depression, dizziness on a daily basis, and I've been having tingling in my arm and legs, but especially in the arm that the implant is in. I've also experienced weight gain and sharp pains where the implant is inserted. I touch and feel it on a daily basis, and it is still in the spot the doctor put it in. I think I'll just go without birth control."

For Birth Control "I've been on this implant for about a year. I absolutely hate it. I weighed 120 after having my baby. I was so small, my doctor told me I would only gain about 5 pounds. I am now at 199. I've tried losing weight, that doesn't work. My acne is out of this world. I barely get a period, and when I do, it lasts for like a day and a half! This implant is causing my body so many problems. I have headaches all the time. My breasts hurt. My back hurts. And it's so difficult trying to lose weight on this, it makes me eat unusually. I eat all day. It keeps you baby-free, and I don't want to get it removed, but it comes with so many side effects that your doctor doesn't really tell you about!"

For Birth Control "I've had it in for 8 months now and only get my light spotting when stressed. I love the convenience of no pill and one hormone. I have gained 5 pounds (I'm less active) and have a lower sex drive, but it's not that bad. I just find myself too tired to do anything."
