For Birth Control "I really liked this birth control option when I started it, and for the first year it worked really well! After about 18 months, I started getting really bad periods, they would last between 1-2 months each, and although they weren't super heavy, I was still bleeding. Around the same time, I started getting really bad cramps, and before the implant, I had never gotten cramps in my life! I was 22 when I got it and had had my period for about 10 years at that point. I just scheduled an appointment to have it removed, but I'm a little hesitant to do it because, like it promised, I haven't gotten pregnant! Still trying to decide if the bi-weekly cramps and long periods are worth it, but odds are I will resort to traditional birth control instead."

For Birth Control "I would NEVER recommend this birth control to anyone. I had it for a year straight! With the feeling of being pregnant. Boobs constantly hurt, always cramping, migraines, exhausted every day, mood swings, and zero sex drive. I would have rather been pregnant. So not worth it. Much rather remember a pill every day!"

For Birth Control "At first, I loved Implanon. I thought it would be perfect, I wouldn't have to worry about a pill. Well, I quickly discovered I was wrong! When I got the Implanon inserted, I was still bleeding from having my son. Well, I never stopped. I haven't had a real period since before I got pregnant, and that was in May of 2011. I just got this removed about a week and a half ago. The 6 months I was on it, I only stopped bleeding for about a week, at the most. So even though I'm terrified at the thought of having another child right now, I couldn't handle the constant bleeding, cramping, headaches, etc. Now I have finally stopped bleeding after a solid 2 and a half months. I personally do NOT recommend Implanon!"

For Birth Control "When I first got this birth control, I didn't get my period for a couple of months, but then all of a sudden, I started getting heavy periods and bad cramps. I recommend this for anyone else who forgets to take their pills, and also I started gaining weight, but I lose weight at times, also, it all depends on your body. I have 2 more years to go with this birth control, and I get mood swings at times, not all the time. Good luck, ladies!"

For Birth Control "I've had the Implanon for about six months now, and I love it. The only thing that is, is that I get my period every other month, but once I do get it, it happens for a week and goes away like normal, but then sometimes I will have a second period 3-4 days later. I was told to expect anything, but I wasn't expecting this. My cramps aren't bad at all, but the bleeding time can get annoying."

For Birth Control "I got Implanon in October 2013. After a month, my cycle of period has become strange. Starting off being light (spotting) for a week or two, then stopped. But after a while (a week), really heavy like soaking a super tampon in 10 mins. That continued a day or two, then light again, lasting for more than 1-2 months at a time, stopping and starting of blood flow during a period. I also experienced cramping and bloating sometimes, started to gain weight after three months, gained 5 kg in three months, some mood swings (but not too bad). I've got it removed, of course."

For Birth Control "I got it inserted in the middle of March 2016 and got it taken out in November 2016. I didn't get periods at first, and if I did, they were very light. Then, four months later, I got the worst periods I've ever had. Usually, before the birth control, I could help my back pain and cramps with ibuprofen, ibuprofen didn't even help at all when I got on birth control. May is when I realized I started gaining a lot of weight. My eating habits didn't change, neither did my working out. I kept gaining and gaining. By the time I got it taken out, I weighed 135 pounds. I weighed 118 before I got it in! I also got super depressed and anxious, and no one believed the birth control was doing it. Seriously, I felt 100 times better when I got it out, and I already lost 7 pounds having it out."

For Birth Control "I've had Implanon for a little over a year. It's been pure hell. I have gained 60 pounds, and nothing I do helps me lose weight. My depression is extremely bad from the hormones. (I had depression before, but it's 10 times worse). For the first four months, I was bleeding, with a 2-3 day break from bleeding. My periods are now about 9 days long. I have irregular periods, so it goes from period with 3 weeks off to period with one week off. It's just all over the place, with extremely painful cramps. I'm getting it removed tomorrow, thank God. I'm terrified of hormonal birth control now, this being my first one that releases hormones. While I have had a horrible experience, I hope that others do not. It might work for you, it might not."

For Birth Control "This is my 2nd Implanon, which I had inserted within 6 weeks of removing the 1st. My period completely stopped, and I didn't experience any other side effects (other than my weight fluctuating by 5 kg) while I had the first one in, but this time was the complete opposite! I started getting my period every second week (which is much darker and more potent), and now I am just constantly bleeding... small amounts, but CONSTANT small amounts... I feel like a leaking faucet... and I always have cramps and intense cravings... I originally started the Implanon so I could have spontaneous sex with my partner and not worry about getting pregnant, but now I can't even have pre-planned sex!!!! I cannot wait to have it removed."

For Birth Control "I had my implant put in July 2014. I've had no stop issues ever since! I've had a 3-month-long period, heavy and painful periods, extreme weight gain, etc. I was a size 6/8, I'm now a 10/12 (I'm not eating any different). Due to the weight gain and issues with periods, I wanted it taken out ASAP! I went to have it taken out, and they couldn't find it..the doctors, clinic, etc., nobody could find it! I have now been referred to a specialist to use a scanner to find it- I'm sticking to the pill when I finally get it taken out."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon put in October, and I've been on my period every day since then up until earlier this month. My doctor told me I could expect some irregular periods, but didn't think that meant I would bleed for a straight 7 months. It wasn't awful, no cramping or heavy bleeding. Just an annoyance more than anything. I've been off my period for a couple of weeks now and am hoping it stays like this for the rest of the time I'm on this."

For Birth Control "I received Implanon 1-2 years ago. I was cautious at first but went ahead and got it done after my baby girl was born. I have noticed a fluctuation in my weight and my mood, well, it fluctuates too. I have only had maybe 5 periods since it was implanted. They were light and only lasted a few days, and I haven't had a period in almost a year...in two months, it will be a year. I was warned by my doctor that when my period comes...it can do almost anything: be light, heavy, cramping, or none, bloating or none, skip months, shorter or longer periods, periods lasting 1-2 months at a time, stopping and starting of blood flow during a period...just anything...so be prepared for anything, ladies...good luck!"

For Birth Control "I've had this thing in me for a year and seven months. All it has done is make my depression and anxiety worse and cause really bad mood swings. I didn't have a period until recently, and I'm having severe cramps. Thankfully, I go to get it taken out soon. I'm just gonna switch to the pill. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I'm using it since August 2016. First few months, no period. Then, on and off spotting. Starting September 2017, having daily spotting for a month. Gap of 2 days, then another month of period/bleeding. Gap of 2 days, then period again... till now, November 2017. Add on menstrual cramps. I refused to consume any extra medication through my body. This is overwhelming enough."

For Birth Control "I had the Implanon put in 6 months after I gave birth. It was amazing for the first 2 and a half years. Months before the Implanon expired, I had to get it removed since I started getting my period nonstop. It lasted about 2-3 months and that is when I decided to get it removed. My emotions were everywhere! I would go from sad to angry and then happy. I would get horrible headaches and cramps, not to mention nausea and lightheadedness. After getting it removed, I decided to get a new one in, but it hasn't worked so far. I got my new one in October and it is January, and I have still been bleeding EVERY DAY! I had enough and called to have this removed. There are too many side effects. I do not recommend it!"

For Birth Control "I love the Implanon. I have tried all other birth controls except the ones you insert in the uterus or Mirena. Anyway, my period has been nonexistent since 2010, and my partner couldn't be happier. I do have sharp back pain and cramps, including mood swings, basically everything that my body would do if it was 'pregnant,' like the OB-GYN explained. I have gained 20 plus pounds, but I know a majority of it is my diet and exercise, so I highly recommend this to women who want something long term."

For Birth Control "I've had the implant since Feb 2016. Before that, I got the depo shots and decided to switch because I did not like the depo. I have been VERY impressed with the implant and how it has been for me. I spotted one time in 2016, and it was about a month after I got the implant. I think it was just because my body was trying to get used to the hormones. I cramped for a week and only bled for a few days. As of today (Mar 2017), I was cramping all day, lo and behold, I started my period. Now, I am not complaining considering I haven't had one for over a year, but I am hoping this will be just like last time! I do recommend it!"

For Birth Control "I've been on a number of birth controls for the past 10 years, and this is by far the best. Not perfect, but the best yet. I have 4 kids, my last 2 were both birth control babies! I decided to try this. Insertion wasn't what I expected, I was nervous for nothing! I bled for the first month, but after that, I had very light periods, and now I have none at all. I get cramps as if I am about to, but either don't or just get very small spotting. No issues so far and no pregnancies. No weight gain, no nausea, no headaches, and no other side effects. Highly recommended for at least a try!"

For Birth Control "This November 2015, I will have had Implanon for 3 years. The only thing I guess I could say that was bad was that I had a period for maybe most 2 weeks after a year of having it. After that, I haven't had any period since. I get cramps rarely, no spotting. Very effective against pregnancy, very effective for stopping implantation if anyone was wondering because I know I was when I got it. I plan to get Implanon again when it's time to remove it. I think I've had an overall positive experience, and I hope the second time around is good as well!"

For Birth Control "I loved the Implanon for the first year of use. It was easy, painless, and effective. I barely got a period the entire first year on it. (Awesome!) It also had no effect on my high blood pressure. I would have recommended it to anyone 10/10 times. Now that I have had it for a year and a half, I change my mind. I have read that it becomes less effective in preventing PMS symptoms over time, and it has proven to be true. The past 4 months, I have been randomly bleeding for days on end, multiple times a month. Painful cramps and intense mood swings. I just made an appointment to have it removed. Everyone is different, but I would most recommend the Implanon for a year of use. Definitely worth it for that period of time."

For Birth Control "Implanon is great, no regrets. 1. Never had acne, did not get acne. 2. Used to have really bad period pain, including cramps, nausea, throwing up, fainting, no temperature control; on Implanon this is mostly gone. 3. Periods are irregular - on my second Implanon now, and I’ve gone 4 months since insertion with one light period. Had a similar experience with my first one, but towards the last 6 months (after 2.5 years of barely any periods) had periods every fortnight for a month and once a month. 4. Mood - felt a bit crazy towards the last 6 months of my original one. Hard to explain, definitively wondered if irritability was related to Implanon, especially with irregular and increased periods. 5. Weight gain - hard to tell if poor lifestyle or aging is a factor, but gained a lot of belly fat and 10-15 kg heavier than I used to be. Can probably be fixed with improved lifestyle choices though, so overall still happy with outcomes from Implanon."

For Birth Control "Please find more information about this birth control before agreeing to get it like I did. It is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. A friend of mine had it, and she had no side effects and a bonus of no period. It sounded perfect, but for me, the side effects are not worth it. My period lasts three months at a time with cramps, headaches, and is harder to lose weight. Also, if someone does get pregnant with it, the baby will be developing in the wrong place and die. Since everyone's body reacts differently, there is no telling how it will be for you until you get it, so do not get it. That's my opinion. The pill worked better for me."

For Birth Control "This birth control is so good when it comes to not getting pregnant. The side effects, on the other hand, have been horrible for me. One month I've had a period that was so heavy and painful it felt like labor and lasted for 8 days. And I've been getting headaches nonstop ever since I got it in. Not just regular headaches, but migraine-like ones. And I've had some days when I felt dizzy and nauseous. So if you're willing to deal with the horrible side effects, then yes, I'd recommend it. But side effects for every woman are different."
