"I got Implanon on August 6th, 2013. Soon after, I noticed non-stop bleeding and mood swings. I cried very often and also ended a relationship. I went through depression, anxiety, and had serious headaches. I haven't quit bleeding for more than a week since I've been on it. I don't recommend it to anyone under 18."

"I have only had the Implanon for 4 weeks and am going in today to have it removed. I chose this because it's an 'out of sight, out of mind' easier birth control. But the side effects for me have been horrendous. I have had severe anxiety, mood swings, and depression. And instead of little issues rolling right off my shoulders, it feels as though it's the end of the world. I've never struggled with this before. I've also had literal thoughts of suicide and self-harm. Also, it caused my sex drive to become pretty much non-existent. Coming from a woman who has been with the same man for 12 years and could have sex 3 times per day. I started having no sex drive and had a very dry vagina."

"For birth control, it definitely works. I've had this in for a little over a year. I do get my period every month. But I feel like every other month I either get two periods, or it lasts for 3 weeks at least. I am also NEVER in the mood for sex. I'm considering getting it out sooner than the 3 recommended."

"I had the Implanon fitted in May this year. From having it fitted, I think I bled for nearly 9 weeks. I have put on a stone in weight and have suffered really bad mood swings, feeling sometimes like I'm going mad. I felt tired all the time with no energy. I was really snappy with my children and my other half all the time. I am normally a really laid-back sort of person, but this changed me into a nutter."

"Honestly, I thought this birth control was the best at first, told everyone I knew to get it. But now, 4 months later, I can't stand it, my emotions have been out of this world, my stress level has been higher, and I went from a happy person to hating everything. I never have gotten cramps before I got this put in, and they are the worst. The bleeding goes from heavy to light but at random times, but means to say I'm getting this removed immediately. Because I know I will go back to my normal self again."

"I absolutely love it! I've had it for 2 years, only got my period once a few weeks after I got the Implanon, and never got a period again. No mood swings, gained a little weight, but I don't think it all has to do with the Implanon. No side effects at all. It all depends on how your body reacts to it. I was reading some reviews where they have been bleeding forever. If that would have been me, I would have removed it already."

"So far, I love the Implanon! I read so many horror stories before getting it inserted that I was so scared. I'm 21 and have horrible periods normally. I had to stop taking the pill as I gained 8 kgs, my breasts were so tender all the time, and I was so emotional and teary. I honestly thought the Implanon would do the same to me, but so far, NO periods, NO weight gain (in fact, I've lost weight). Great sex drive, my mood is the same as always! Really happy! Don't let all the negative stories affect you, everyone's body works so differently!"

"I love my Implanon! It wasn't that painful with the insertion. It bruised for a week. But when you get it first put in, you will probably bleed a little for a day or two, but after that, no periods! Well, in my experience, I had no periods. It's almost been a year since I had it inserted, and I am never scared to get pregnant. I had no negative side effects at all. No weight gain or chemical imbalances. Implanon is the way to go. I was skeptical at first because of these negative views, but remember those are extreme cases. I have many family members who are on Implanon and share the same positive experience as I did!"

"I have had the Implanon for the last two years. I'm supposed to get it out August of 2015. I did NOT gain weight, actually, it helped me lose it. Ever since I got it inserted in my arm, I have not had a period, so no period for the last two years. Recently, my friend was kind of pushy and grabbed my arm too tight, and it knocked my Implanon out of place, so now I am starting my second period in the last three weeks. This is an amazing birth control, but be careful when it comes to people grabbing on your arm."

"I got my implant in September 2007, a month after I had my daughter. It was practically a painless insertion, the only thing that kind of hurt was the numbing of the area. It stings a bit when they inject the medication in your arm. I love this thing, it's the best ever. I've had no periods until now. I would recommend this to anyone who is absent-minded and forgets their pill."

"I have had the Implanon in my arm for over 2 years now, and only within the last 2 months have I come to realize that all these things I have been experiencing: lack of concentration, constantly hungry (especially for sweet things), acting like a pit bull on crack with the mood swings, breast tenderness, backache, itchy, irritable scalp, gripping pains, feeling anxious and crying for no reason, headaches, erratic periods (e.g., none for 3 months, then 2 heavy in one month, followed by spotting on and off for 3 weeks), and the worst thing for me: WEIGHT GAIN! I have put on about 2 stone and I was always good at dieting, but not this time, IT WILL NOT SHIFT! It was not until recently when my headaches got worse that I started to dig on Google, and I feel so stupid that I didn't do my research on this horrible thing! Yes, it stops you from getting pregnant, but is it worth it? Definitely NOT!"

"I've had my Implanon since May 30th, 2013. I have not stopped bleeding since I got it. I have crazy mood swings, I get extremely depressed, crave junk food, my sex drive is way down, I get horrible headaches, and abdominal pain."

"I would just like to tell people my story of having the Implanon and the side effects I have experienced during this time. I got my first implant 7 years ago. My experiences with the implant have been awful! And this is the reason I would like to give people an idea of what it can do to your body to hopefully help people deciding whether the implant is for them or if people are experiencing symptoms like the ones I had, then it is most likely due to the implant and the doctors really don't have a clue, as I was told by my GP on several occasions, 'No, it will not be the implant that is causing this,' when in reality I knew it was. When I had it removed, it confirmed that I was right. So here is my story.. With the implant, I gained so much weight, which I have been unable to lose. I bled heavily during sex, and when I say heavily, I mean it went everywhere!! And this was on every occasion during intercourse, and when I explained to my GP, in her head, there was no way it was the implant! And this was when I was not bleeding, which wasn't very often. This really does affect your life, your sex life, and your relationships. I bled almost all the time without a break, which makes you feel so uncomfortable and self-conscious. I never had clean knickers!! I know, not nice. My hormones have been everywhere since I got the implant, also depression, anxiety, etc. Pain during intercourse was a big issue while on the implant. I had so much pain that sometimes I could not have sex with my partner. Sometimes I would not lubricate myself, which was also another symptom. GP did not help with this either, apart from offering me lubricant!! If I was not bleeding, I had dark brown discharge. Until having the implant removed, I cannot remember the last time I wore white knickers. There is so much more, but these are the main symptoms I have experienced more recently. I had my implant removed on 6/11/17, and when having it removed, I was intimidated by the nurse who was removing it, she was very rude!! Anyway, I stopped bleeding straight away. I started my period on 10/11/17, which lasted 4-5 days. I have never bled since, not even a spot!! My partner and I can finally enjoy intercourse without the worry about me bleeding or being sore. I can even wear WHITE knickers now, and they stay WHITE!!!! IT'S AMAZING!! I have never felt so happy! I was starting to doubt my body while on the implant. I thought, my body isn't normal, there's something wrong with me. At one point, I thought I had cervical cancer due to the bleeding during sex. My whole life has changed since having the implant removed, I feel so much better and back to normal, whatever normal is.. I really hope that by sharing my experience, if I can even help one person, I will be happy☺️. Thank you for reading, and if anyone would like to write to me regarding this, feel free to do so. Thank you."

"I've had mine since October of 2013. At first, I was super excited because it was a no-fuss birth control that would cause me migraines. After I had it implanted, I gained 30 lbs in a matter of 3 months. Although I believe some of that was stress (I'm in medical school), I continued to work out regularly and was still gaining weight. I have not had my period since I've had it, but instead, I've had bloating, mood swings, lowered sex drive, oh, and my migraines have gotten worse. Although I love how easy it is, I feel like it's taken a real toll on my body. I hate to say it, but I miss having my normal body functions, even my period!"

"I had my period for 3 months straight after getting the Implanon. But now, after 8 months, I have NOT gained weight or gotten a period. And I have not gotten pregnant. It has made me more sleepy, though, which is okay."

"I have had the Implanon for two years now, personally, it is more hassle than it is worth. My periods are heavy and long-lasting, sometimes for over a month. There is often a tiny break between one period ending and the next starting, which is knackering. Every few months, it will disappear altogether, which is a godsend. When it returns, my emotions/mood swings are extreme."

"I've only had Implanon for 6 months. They say anything can happen, so they can't tell you much about your period. But, in my experience, I've had no period so far and no cramps or PMS symptoms. I don't believe the Implanon made me gain weight. I was gradually gaining my Freshman 25 in college from September to May, and I got the Implanon in January. It didn't make me gain weight abnormally. I just continued my weight gain from eating such unhealthy food at school. Since then, I've lost 17 pounds, and I don't believe the Implanon has slowed down any of the weight loss. Unfortunately, reviews are not going to help you because Implanon is strictly person to person when it comes to side effects. In my case, I love Implanon!"

"I have had Implanon going on 3 years in September. I have been having unprotected intercourse for just as long and no babies for me. My periods are beginning to regulate, before I had it, they were sporadic. I have had no weight gain or other issues for that matter. Overall, this form of birth control is my favorite and very worth it."

"I have had Implanon for over a year, and the side effects have been going on for that long. My hair is falling out, I have the worst anxiety and mood swings, and have gained over 30 lbs since on it. No amount of exercise and diet can help. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to have it removed because of the side effects."

"I had Implanon inserted a little over a year ago. It was not painful. I haven't had a period for 8 months. I don't have mood swings, and my acne cleared up. I am a nurse, so I researched it a bit. The only ingredient is progesterone, which is a natural hormone women already have, and of course the plastic that it's made of. Safe for your health. Definitely a positive experience for me!"

"I am 22, and I have been on since I was 21. I haven't had a period since I have been on, which is fine, but my sex drive is out the window. Haven't had sex with my boyfriend in 6 weeks, and we live together. I'm just not in the mood AT ALL. Also, I notice I have been dry, and that has never been the case. Also, a lot of weight gain, and no matter how much I exercise, it won't come off. I also feel like my feet keep growing. It's perfect for effectiveness, but it's the price you pay, so to each its own. Different bodies react in different ways, so my story may not be yours."

"Implanon often tends to get a bad rap, but so too does every other type of contraception. I was on my first lot for 3 years, never having a period. After it ran out, I waited two months before getting a new one. In those two months, I had regular periods. When the new one was inserted, I went back to no periods. My mother had an implant for years with regular periods and loved it. I have loved it. It was the best thing for me as I have depression, and the pill and some injections caused me to become lifeless and made my depression horrible. Everyone is different, so different things work for different people. The upside of the implant is that if you do have issues, you can take it straight back out with no side effects. I recommend it."

"I have the Implanon, and I'm seriously thinking about removing it. The birth control part works, but what I've been going through to prevent pregnancy is awful. My mood swings are often and more stressful than before. I'm never in the mood to have sex, I could go without it forever, is how I feel. I get the inflammation issue down there as well. My periods are sporadic and heavy or light, but never consistent. I also haven't been able to lose my baby weight since I've been on this. The other times I was able to shed the weight, no problem. I miss the Patch!"

"What everyone needs to realize is that everyone's body is different and reacts differently. You have to see what's best for you!!! You may react differently than the next person. I was on the shot for 8 months and gained 20 pounds and fell into a terrible depression. I've switched and have been on the implant for 8 months now and have dropped 10 pounds! No depression! I'm actually happy! No mood swings. I'm very satisfied so far with the results. So my advice, find what fits you and your body. You may have to try a couple until you find a fit. But don't go off of how other people's bodies reacted."

"I got the Implanon late 2009, now December 2010, I'm debating if I want it removed. I thought this was going to be nice. A friend of mine warned me the worst was yet to come. A few months after getting it put in, I experienced weight gain. I'm still dealing with this unexplainable fatigue, and I've acquired a thyroid issue, as well as the nonstop bleeding, almost no sex drive, and I'm only 21. I don't know how much longer I can deal with feeling a wreck, but I have not been pregnant, and that's the only thing keeping me on this birth control."
