"I've been on Loestrin 24 for about 8 months. Since I've been on it, I have lost my sex drive, can't sleep, slurred speech, headaches, you name it. I was happy to see other users have had similar side effects. I have been going crazy thinking something was wrong, and now I know it's the pill! I have to say an upside to the pill is I started with short, light periods, and now I don't even get my period at all. But the side effects are just too much to handle, so I'm getting off this pill."

"I was taking Loestrin for about a year. It had some pros— for instance, I would normally suffer from really painful menstrual cramps, but with this birth control, I haven’t had any since I started. Another thing, I haven’t gotten my period since I started. Not even the common spotting, which was a little concern for me towards the end. It’s not normal. But what really made me stop taking these pills was that I broke out a lot!!!! It was ridiculous how much acne I got from this! It just took one week for my face to clear up and feel smooth after I fully stopped taking these pills! Now I have to go on the hunt again for birth control pills."

"I have been taking Loestrin since I was 16, and I am now 19. I have to say it is absolutely wonderful. I initially began taking it as a way to lessen the flow of my monthly, but it is also an effective birth control in case of 'accidents.' I have not gained weight, although I find it more difficult to lose weight. My period is now nearly non-existent and lasts for maybe a day. I would recommend it to everyone."

"The reason I got on this prescription was because 1. I don't want to get pregnant and 2. My periods last for 7-8 days, cramps are unbearable, and there are times that it's heavy. It's annoying, and there are times I can't even sleep. Now, I've only been on the pill for 7 days. Before I even take the pill, I'm good-no mood swings, I don't feel nausea, nothing at all. After I take the pill, like 5 hours later, I start feeling nausea, moody, I just want to go to bed and sleep. What I've been reading here seems good. I hope this side effect ends soon because I really don't like the feeling, but I will keep you guys updated on how it's working with my body. Wish me luck."

"I am a healthy, 15-year-old girl that decided to start taking Loestrin 24 as a birth control. I've been on it for 4 months. My periods are only for the 4 days that I am off the pill, and I spot irregularly in between periods, but not very often. This pill has made me cry much more easily, but I have not become depressed. I haven't gotten pregnant either, so it works. This pill is very effective and doesn't have many side effects, recommended."

"I've been on this pill for 4 months now, and it's great. My period lasts only like 3 days on the sugar pills, experience barely any cramping. The only downside for my body was that this pill makes you spot on and off, so I keep having to wear a panty liner, and it makes me really emotional, like I cry over everything, and I was never that sensitive. I haven't gained that much weight, but I will say it makes me have an appetite like a man! It cleared up my acne too. I do recommend this pill."

"This is my first time on birth control. My first two to three months on Lo, I experienced mild cystic acne on my chin area and slight weight gain, 6 pounds at the most. I think most of my weight went to my boobs :). The acne resolved after three months or so, now my skin is clear for the most part. My weight is pretty steady, however, my breasts get very sore and heavy during certain times of the month. Overall, it seems to be good compared to what I’ve heard from other BC. Most importantly, it decreased my bleeding, which is why I started. Periods are very light, lasting about 3 days. I’m on my 6th month, can’t complain!"

"I was taking this pill for several years and had a good experience with it. My periods were only for 3 days, if that. Sometimes, I hardly bled. My doctor prescribed this to me because I had irregular menstrual cycles. While I was on the medication, my acne improved, I hardly had any breakouts, I barely experienced cramps, and I had a shortened period. It worked very well for me, but apparently, they've discontinued this product. Minastrin 24 Fe is apparently the bio-equivalent. I have yet to try that product or any new pills."

"I was on this for one month, and for that entire month, I hated it. I’ve been on different pills before-Marlissa and Apri-which both made me nauseous and moody, but Lo Loestrin was pretty bad. I was spotting for a week and a half before my period, and I even got my period two days before I finished my active pills. That had never happened before with any other birth control pills I was on. Also, the period I got was excruciating. My ovaries were rock solid, and my cramps were terrible. Plus, I was bleeding way too much for being on birth control."

"Though expensive (I can usually find a coupon), I love this birth control! I noticed no weight gain or breakouts... it actually cleared up my skin. Very short periods (4 days of inactive pills) usually last 2 days. Recommended for sure, if covered by insurance or have the money."

"I've been on Lolo for a year now, and I totally love it. I've never experienced any side effects besides weight gain, which is pretty common when taking birth control, and I've also been home from school all summer. I have the lightest and shortest periods now, sometimes I don't even have one. I love having no periods, especially since I used to have terrible cramps and heavy bleeding, although it is bad for pregnancy scares. I was on Tri-Previfem before Lolo, and I absolutely really don't! I had the worst side effects, especially with the yeast infections that would never go away. Lolo was the only pill that worked for me, and it is amazing!"

"I was on Loestrin for about 3 months after a year on generic OrthoCyclen. Initially, it was a great switch because the last one made me extremely moody, but the new one had no emotional effects. The first two months were annoying because I was having breakthrough bleeding. By the 3rd month, I finally had a normal cycle, but after finishing the 3rd pack, I noticed a LOT of my hair was falling out! Apparently, Loestrin is a high androgen pill that can cause hair loss, and with a history of hair loss in my family, I should never have been on it in the first place. Please talk to your doctor about this side effect before starting; I've lost over 20% of my hair in the last week and it may last another year."

"I started Loestrin over a year and a half ago, two months before my wedding, and it is a great pill. I did gain quite a bit of weight (but I attribute that to my love of fast food). Before going on this pill, I had absolutely horrible period cramps, terrible iron deficiency, and very excessive bleeding. I had few pimples. When I started the pill, my bleeding decreased a ton, and I didn't feel lightheaded anymore, I have not had a single pimple since I started it, and cramps are nonexistent. I take the pill at the exact same time every night and have never forgotten. I'm careful to use extra protection 48 hours after starting white pills and before brown pills. I haven't gotten pregnant. Only negative - did decrease sex drive a LOT."

"This is the first contraceptive pill I have ever tried and was recommended to me by my gyn. I've only been taking this pill for a month, and in comparison to other users, I haven't had any weight gain or loss. I did have one cystic pimple on my cheek, but it went away after a couple of days. I have moved up a breast size, and I'll have to get new bras, which is kind of irritating, but my periods are much less painful. As for the duration of my cycle, there have been no changes. I do experience slight irregular mood swings as well, but nothing horrible. My one complaint with this drug is the extremely high price."

"Cannot wait to get off this pill... horrible mood swings! Extremely irritable, crying at everything, beginning to dislike my husband (not good!), feel like I am coming out of my skin some days, I cannot stand myself, and I'm pretty sure my family is starting to feel the same. Took me a couple of months to figure out it was the pill causing it, since this all started after I started taking it 4 months ago. I started with it to help with very heavy periods, it is helping with that, although I did have a 2-week period last month, which is never enjoyable. Pretty sure this pill is causing me to have this PMDD, which I have never experienced before. It's horrible. Switching to something else, so hopefully, it will get better!"

"I was taking Microgestin for 4 years and switched to test out if the other BC was giving me weight gain. Never got around to the experiment because Loestrin was a nightmare. I had spotting every day since day 5 of the pack. Then cystic acne started popping up, and I couldn't control it with anything! With the other BC, I was able to control it, and it at least went away like a normal pimple, but this acne is painful and HUGE. Combined with the constant spotting and losing all my good thongs to the BC being sassy, I decided to switch back. Based on other reviews, seems like these side effects aren't going anywhere."

"I used Loestrin for about 6 months. I switched from Yaz because although Yaz promised a shorter period, I actually had it for about 8 days. With Loestrin, I only had my period for 2 days - major plus. However, as time went on, I noticed that I would get stomach aches and the main issue was loss of sex drive. It took a while to realize that this was caused by Loestrin, but just keep in mind that this is a side effect."

"I take this birth control mainly for cramps, and I've been on it for almost two years. I only feel nauseous if I miss a pill and have to double up or take 2 a day. It made me nauseous when I first started taking it, but that went away pretty quickly. The plus sides I've had are: 1) light periods that usually last only 4 days, 2) I only cramp on the first day usually, but if I do any other time, it's brief and pretty tolerable, 3) I always start at the same time every month, 4) no spotting throughout the month whatsoever, 5) no weight gain, 6) and no acne. Downsides: 1) super low libido, except for when I'm actually on my period, which drives me insane. All in all, I'd say it's a good pill for what I mainly take it for."

"I am 16. I was on Loestrin for 5-6 months, and at first, I did have some spotting/bleeding (but I had also taken my pill late the first few months, so maybe that was why). Before I got on the pill, I had a very heavy period, and I would go through 7 tampons sometimes in one school day. Loestrin did thankfully make my period a lot shorter and lighter, however, sometimes I would have a discharge the week before my period. I did not have any weight gain, but the pill caused me to have MAJOR mood swings towards my 4th-6th month. I was depressed sometimes and would feel the need to cry a lot. It was affecting my friendships and relationship. I just switched to Lutera on Sunday, and hopefully this pill won't have any side effects."

"I have been on this pill coming up on a month. I am extremely tired all the time. When I wake up, if I close my eyes for a minute, I fall right back into a deep sleep. I am having the worst mood swings ever, and worst of all, it is making me gain weight like crazy! I haven't changed my diet or exercise routine. I eat healthy and exercise every day, but I am gaining weight! I would not recommend this pill to anyone unless you are an extremely happy, skinny person who can't gain weight, because it will make you angry and make you gain weight."

"My experience is similar to one above mine. I have only been on it a couple of weeks. My breasts have grown a lot. I started taking the pill on the first day of my period, like the pack said to do. It stopped my period, I know it's early, but so far I'm happy with it. Hope this helps someone."

"Loestrin is about the 6th birth control pill that I have been on in the past 4 years. Yaz, Ortho Tri, Sprintec, Yasmin, and now Loestrin. So far, it has been one of my favorites. The first month, I was a bit moody, but that subsided. Periods only last for about 2 days at the very most. Definitely increased my sex drive, no headaches or even pain around my period. The only negative is that about 2 days before I start my period, I tend to get really depressed, but as soon as it starts, the depression is gone, and I'm back to normal."

"This was my first birth control pill. I was on it for 2 months. I was prescribed this for heavy, long periods (a super plus tampon and a maxi pad would last me about 2 hours at most. Setting alarms every 2 hours at night was not fun) and severe cramps that caused me to black out and miss school. I never got acne, but after starting this pill, I noticed a few spots-nothing big, maybe 5 or 6 over the course of 2 months. Nothing happened to my weight. My periods were extremely light; a regular tampon was all I needed for 4 to 6 hours. I did notice my sex drive decreased greatly, and it did increase the severity of my bipolar disorder. However, I would still recommend this pill."

"I've been using this pill for 3 months. It's been great! The only side effects I've experienced are the very rare bad headaches. Haven't had any weight gain, bloating, or anything. I was really nervous about taking birth control, but it's been a really good experience! Try it out and see if it fits your body well. I like it."

"I started Loestrin 24 to regulate my periods. But I didn't like being on the pill, I gained weight, had mood swings, and lost my sex drive. I always felt bloated, and it was so uncomfortable. The only good thing that came from taking this pill was that after I stopped taking it, my periods stayed consistent."
