"I like this pill, Loestrin 24 Fe. I do not have mood swings, weight gain, or acne. So far, it has pretty much stopped my periods each month. I just get very, very light spotting for 2-3 days instead of a full-blown period. I've been on other pills, and I like this one better."

"I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for about five years. It's been my one and only birth control, but I can't complain. Many of my friends have had to change birth control, and I always recommend mine. It doesn't make you gain weight. Your period is very, very mild. From having my period for a week with severe cramping and heavy periods, I went to three days with very little bleeding and not much cramping. I recommend it! You won't regret it!"

"Well, this is the first month that I have been on Loestrin. I have not gotten any weight gain as with other methods of birth control. I also haven't had any bleeding or spotting between periods. The reason my doctor told me to start taking Loestrin was that I was on Yasmin, and that pill made me have more side effects than Loestrin. With Loestrin, my acne has not broken out, it actually helped me with that. This is my last week for my first pack, and I feel really good with it. Maybe the reason why everyone else is having problems with the pill is because they may take it during the day. My doctor recommended taking it during the night, that way, you won't experience that many side effects."

"I’ve been on this pill for about 4 years. I can honestly say I haven’t noticed any major problems like I’m reading from other women. I have been on birth control since I was 16, so it’s hard to say what’s normal and what’s abnormal for me. I don’t have acne problems. Occasionally annoying pimples. My periods are nonexistent at this point. I don’t bleed at all, which kind of bothers me because it’s not to get the “you’re not pregnant” notification from your period bleeding. I don’t get bloated. Mood swings? Eh, nothing out of the ordinary. I have my moments just like anyone else. I’m about to switch to the copper IUD because I feel like I’ve been on hormones for too long and fear the long-term consequences. Very nervous to switch considering I’ve had zero problems."

"I was on Lo Loestrin for 3 months. During those 3 months, I developed horrible acne. I’ve never had issues with acne, so when I started getting huge breakouts that wouldn’t go away all along my chin and jawline, I wasn’t too thrilled. No matter what acne products I used, the breakouts would not go away. Additionally, this stopped my periods entirely. Before, I was taking the pill Junel, and I was having light, regular periods that indicated I wasn’t pregnant, which is always a relief. I had no way of knowing with this birth control since I never had a period. My face is starting to finally clear up after a month of being off of this pill, and I finally had my period again. I would not recommend this pill at all."

"I am 24 and recently sought out a birth control pill because I will be getting married in March. I was put on Loestrin 24 back in December '09. Thankfully, I did not read all of the scary internet blogs until afterwards, or I probably wouldn't have tried it. I have not had mood swings (in fact, I feel I am a less moody person now). It is easy to keep up with, and seeing that I am a first-time BC user, I fell in love with knowing when my menstrual cycle would occur. The only negative side effects that have occurred since taking the pill: I gained 10 pounds the first two weeks of taking this pill. I've had a hard time shedding those pounds, but at least it has not increased as of yet. Secondly, my boobs hurt like crazy. I can hardly touch them, they are so sore."

"I've been on this pill for a month. I specifically asked my doctor for a low-dose pill because I have had really bad experiences with birth control in the past, from weight gain to ridiculous mood swings, PMS, my sex drive gone, to constant spotting. I am a healthy, slim, active 37-year-old. This pill is the BEST! It's like I am not on anything at all. I have not gained any weight. No acne, no mood swings, and my sex drive has increased, actually. The only reason why I can't give it a 10 is because it is a little pricey, and one thing I was not expecting was the boob growth! I was already a 32DD, and I am popping out of those bras already. My man is not complaining though...lol."

"I started this birth control because it was low in estrogen, and all the other birth controls I have tried would make me bleed constantly. I was only 2 weeks in, and I started to bleed again, so I stopped. My issue, though, is the TERRIBLE acne this has caused me. I'm relieved to see that there are others who share the same issue. I have never had acne this severe, I am so embarrassed to show my skin. I seriously just want to hide, I feel disgusting. I've broken out so badly on my chin, back, and slightly on my chest. I went to the dermatologist to seek relief, but it's still going to take much time to heal. This has by far been the worst birth control I have ever taken. I would not recommend this."

"I used to take Microgestin with no problems. I was switched to the generic Loestrin and took it for close to two years before I realized that it was the cause of my anxiety, depression, anger, mood swings, hypertension, the list goes on. I never struggled with any of these issues before when I took the Microgestin, but I just thought it was stress-related. Since I had been on birth control for years with no problems, I never suspected the pill. I stopped taking the pill in March, and I can finally say I'm feeling like myself again. I wish I would've put the pieces together sooner and stopped taking this pill when I first noticed symptoms."

"Give the pill a chance. After taking it for a week, or even a few months, you simply cannot judge how it will affect you. I have been on this pill for about a year, and at first, I hated it. It made me nauseous, my boobs hurt, and all that, but after a while, that disappeared. Only a few things have remained annoying about this medicine, like irritability, cramps, and tiredness while menstruating, but isn't that what happens anyway? I have had no weight change, no headaches, no pimples, no change in sex drive, and nothing else! Plus, the most important thing is that I have not gotten pregnant. 9/10"

"I was on Loestrin 24 Fe for about 2 months. I'm active and have a very busy lifestyle, but this pill just made me feel like a lunatic. I felt like I was on the verge of crying all the time, really depressed, really anxious, and really tired. Serious mood swings, headaches, breast tenderness, acne - it also made me starving - like permanent PMS. I didn't want to work out and I didn't want to socialize. I gained maybe 5 lbs, but that's probably from not working out and eating way more. It did make my heavy, crampy periods light and short, and my breasts noticeably bigger. Birth control is different for everyone, I'm very in tune with my cycle, when I'm ovulating, and very sensitive to a shift in my hormones. This one was just not right for me."

"I had nothing but wonderful experiences with Loestrin. No breaking out, weight gain, loss of sex drive, or mood swings. I did get pregnant on this birth control after about 7 or 8 months.... however, I did miss two days of it due to running out and my pharmacy being closed over the weekend. So be very careful to not miss a single day, and you should be perfectly fine. It definitely helped with my endometriosis pains. I stopped taking it for a few months and had to miss work each month because the pains were so awful. I got back on to it ASAP and do not experience those anymore. 10/10 recommend this birth control."

"This was the very first birth control pill I went on. I took it for about a year, and it was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I was so depressed I would lie in the dark all day and cry for no reason. I didn’t know why I was feeling this way, and as a 19-year-old college student at the time, I knew something was wrong but just felt so disconnected with the world. The pill didn’t make me gain any weight, but it made me feel puffy, if that makes any sense. My boobs hurt soooo badly taking this pill, I had to hold them just walking around. The day after I decided to stop taking this pill, I already felt different. I would NEVER recommend this pill to anyone. I’m crying just typing this, remembering how terrible it made me feel. I’ve had no history of anxiety or depression before taking this pill. While the pill gave me amazingly clear skin, it is not nearly enough of a benefit to continue taking the pill."

"Well, almost a year on this BC, and at first I thought it was great. Needless to say, I really didn't pay attention. Four to six months in, now rethinking back, I started having anxiety?! Never before experienced this. My acne took a toll, and I’m almost a year on this, and I’m not happy at all. I have no reason to feel unhappy. Anxiety through the roof, chest pains, constant acne, oilier skin. Now reading the reviews after trying absolutely everything I could. Didn’t think birth control could even make you feel this depressed... sounds like I’m not the only one."

"I started Loestrin 24 about a year and a half ago. I initially gained about 10 pounds and have consistently continued to gain weight. I look bloated most of the time and have also gotten cellulite, even though I am only in my twenties. I constantly have an appetite, and even though I exercise regularly, I cannot seem to lose the weight. However, the bright side is that my periods are non-existent, and I don't have cramping."

"Love this pill. I was on it for 2 years and decided to try other ones that were cheaper. Bad mistake! I never had any side effects from Loestrin, it was just pretty expensive. But after trying other ones, this one is the best out there. No bad acne. Short periods. No depression. No weight gain, which was great because as soon as I left Loestrin, I gained 15 lbs on my new pill. Horrible! I love, love this pill and am willing to pay 45 bucks because it makes me feel good!"

"I am almost done with my second pack of this birth control. Overall, I have NOTHING to complain about. I put on a couple of pounds, but I honestly would not blame that on the pill, besides the fact that it's my first year in college. Didn't worsen or better my skin and did not cause me ANY mood swings, and my sex drive is still intact, haha. The only thing I could probably say about it is that I will almost be a month late on my period, but as I've read other reviews, I hear that is normal, but I am not sure how comfortable I am with that. I would rather not have to have a mini panic attack every time I miss a period and wonder if I'm pregnant. But like I said, overall, pretty great pill!"

"I am 22 years old and recently got married. I am so glad that I waited until after the wedding to start Loestrin. The side effects have been horrible. I knew there were some possible negative effects, but I seem to be experiencing them all! I have gained weight, am extremely tired all the time, and cannot ever seem to get enough rest. Also, I have absolutely NO motivation. I have lost interest in everything, including my husband! I have ZERO sex drive. I am constantly depressed and have severe and uncontrollable mood swings."

"I've been on this birth control for 2 years now, and I love it. It is the only birth control I've ever been on, and it has not made me gain weight or any of the 'usual' side effects. The only thing I can say is that I don't like is that I don't get a period every month. It comes about every 3-5 months, which sometimes can be very frightening when you have an accident, and sometimes birth control does fail, but luckily Loestrin 24 hasn't failed me yet."

"After only taking this medicine for 9 days, I've already decided to discontinue use. My side effects are as follows: 1. Mood swings/depression/anxiety: none of these were present before I began taking the pill. I cry for no reason and have a constant feeling of deep, deep worry. I have begun questioning everyone's motives and feel hopeless. 2. Constant sleeping: before the pill, I would have to force myself to go to bed by 10 to be able to fall asleep by 11. I am exhausted by 8 pm now and generally crash by 9. 3. Cramps: stabbing pains, like with a period. 4. Breast tenderness. 5. Pain during intercourse. 6. Acne. 7. Severe nausea. I am stopping this now and getting my life back."

"I just started this pill, and so far, I've noticed that I have been very moody, and my period has become much heavier so far. The moodiness has really affected me and my boyfriend because I start fights over the dumbest things. I'm going to give this a few months, and if nothing changes, I'm going to have to switch."

"This pill worked well for me. I was first put on the pill to help heavy periods and for contraception. I’ve tried various brands with bad side effects until this one that I was on for 2 years. Loestrin really agreed with me! I didn’t get any spotting, no skin problems, and I found it easier to lose weight with a small amount of effort. It didn’t help much with my heavy periods, but no pill has. It was good being able to control when my period came. You have to be quite accurate with when you take it every day, though. You also have to give it about 4 months to settle. The mini pill before this was horrific. The mini pill gave me oily skin, acne, and greasy hair within hours of washing. Loestrin was a relief and stopped all those symptoms. I’ve now been off the pill for a year as I wasn’t having sex that much and wanted to see what I’m like natural after 10 years of various pill taking. It’s made me realize how much Loestrin helped with my skin and weight!"

"I was on Loestrin for about 5 years until I decided to take a break and get off the pill. Although my skin was clear and it was effective at basically eliminating my period and most cramping, do not take this pill. It gave me horrible mood swings, anxiety, and made me irrational, unreasonable, and angry (basically insane), which I didn't realize until I stopped taking it. I honestly thought I was just me until I got off and felt much more like myself. I've been happy and upbeat ever since."

"I hated being on this birth control. I switched from the patch that was throwing my liver out of control. My doctor suggested this low-dose birth control. I thought this would be awesome. I was horribly wrong. I went from having a period once a month to bleeding heavily every 2 weeks. After about a month, I started losing a lot of hair, I called my doctor, and he said it could take a few months to normalize. I finally started having a period once a month, but I would start when I still had 8 days of active pills left. Then it went to nothing for 3 months, great, right? Then bam, 2-week heavy period, cramps for days. I noticed my skin was having more breakouts that wouldn't go away. My under-control depression went crazy. Biggest mood swings: one minute I'm happy-go-lucky, the next I'm a rage case, the next moment I'm uncontrollably sad. I finally couldn't handle it and got put on a different birth control. I know every woman is different. But this one definitely wasn't for me."

"People who are giving this a bad review either aren't letting it get into their system or are some of the few that will suffer from the side effects that come along with taking any medication. People who write a bad review saying they have only been on it for 6 weeks or a couple of months have not let their body adjust to a new pill. I have been on this pill for 6 months now and have no real complaints. In the beginning, I spotted here and there, and my period lasted longer than 4 days. It is better than bleeding for 6-7 days. Give it a chance."
