"It was convenient having the diminished periods. However, when I was on this pill, it put me into a horrible major depression. I had never before experienced any mental trauma or illness, and as soon as I realized that it might have been this birth control and took myself off of it, I was basically back to normal in about two weeks. It affects everyone differently, but I also had found out that a friend of mine was on this pill and she, too, was uncharacteristically depressed."

"I'm currently at the end of my third pack of these, and so far, it's not so bad. This is the first time I've been on 'the pill.' The first two months, I had a bit of spotting, but I didn't get my period... so of course, I had a mini panic attack. I didn't notice much else, and the second month was the same. This last month, I noticed I did gain a couple pounds, but not much to worry about since it seems it mostly just went to my boobs and backside, can't say I mind too much. Also, the spotting has pretty much almost gone away, and I still haven't had my period. I know I can't be pregnant, seeing as I use other methods of contraception as well, but it would be nice to have at least a day's worth of a period to calm my nerves."

"I just started taking the pill almost two months now, and aside from certain downsides, I like it. My periods are so little it's basically only spotting, and I no longer have any cramps, which I am thankful for because prior I could barely move in peace with them. Only things that are deeply disturbing are the weight gain that I gained in such a small period of time, also, my breasts have become increasingly sore at all times of the day. I have mood swings every now and again, and in the beginning, I would get depressed very quickly, but that didn't last long. Hope it works for you."

"From the reviews I've read, it sounds like if you were on Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella as I was, this is a great pill to switch to. I am on my second week of my second pack, and my first period was almost nonexistent! Watch out for pregnancy panics because of little to no periods. Haven't experienced any negative side effects. I have noticed clearer skin, increased sex drive, and the start of increased cup size, my boobs feel heavier and fuller!"

"Only thing I can say about the Loestrin 24 Fe is AWESOME. I have been on these pills for 6 years now, and in the beginning, my period lasted 2 to 3 days, and as time went on, it decreased even more and went to 24 hours, and my period was over. Later on, it changed again, and I came on and was off in 12 hours. Today, I haven't had a period at all I know in years. I love these pills, but the only downfall is even though I don't come on, I still have the mood swings, irritating moments, feeling strange, headaches, etc., but at the time when my period would have been ending, that's when everything goes away. I did used to worry in the beginning when I completely stopped having a period, but now I know it’s just the way these pills are with my body."

"So this is my second time on this birth control. When I took it correctly, I wouldn't have many periods and never super painful. I'm terribly sensitive to most birth controls. My migraines were so bad they thought I had a tumor. But it was too much estrogen in the birth control. The first time went well, but I was taken off of it due to migraines again with auras. But later, I figured out it was biotin instead. So far, I'm 4 months on this, and my skin hasn't looked healthier in the past 6 months. My periods are more like two days of light cramping and then brown sludge for 3 to 4 days. I'll gladly take that over other periods for sure. For me, this works because it's such a low dose."

"It has been about a month since I've begun taking this medication. I knew from the start my body would begin to feel different, but I did not know the actual severity until now. I was diagnosed with endometriosis and possibly PCOS, so my doctor put me on birth control as the first step. However, I have gotten a horrible acne spill all over my forehead (I rarely got acne prior to this medication). On top of the acne, I have the weirdest mood swings. Some days, I will be super happy, while other days I just want to bury myself in my blanket and cry all day. I am hoping my doctor prescribes another type of BC that could help in all!"

"I am so glad I found this website. I have been having horrible breast pain and was actually pretty scared until I saw the side effects some women have had taking this pill. I personally was going to have my doctor change this medication due to my having no sex drive at all. I have always had a super high sex drive, and I went to not wanting to have sex at all. I have been on Loestrin for a little over six months. The symptoms are not getting better for me, just worse. I have gained about 8 lbs, and I do have some up-and-down mood swings. I never thought about the little things this pill could be responsible for. Thank you to everyone that posted."

"I am 18 years old and have been using Loestrin 24 Fe for 9 and a half months now. I haven't gotten pregnant, but the side effects I experience always make me think that I am pregnant. It's been this long, so I guess it's working."

"I was on Loestrin for a year, and I loved how light my periods were and how much less my cramps were. Within a month of not taking it, I could tell what a difference it made. My acne didn't really change much. I will say though that it did mess with my mental status. At random, I would get depressed for little to no reason. Then at my most recent doctor appointment, I was shocked to realize I had gained around 20 lbs. I had become well aware of my constant bloated stomach, but I had no idea I had gained so much. I loved how light Loestrin made my cycles, but I won't take it due to all this weight retention. I've even been working out more than before I started the pill!"

"I am almost done with my first pack of this birth control to help with my irregular and painful periods. It has helped with pain and not caused me any pain, but I have gotten horrible acne on my chest and chin, and my face skin has been super red and itchy. I am so glad to see other people are experiencing this. I will no longer be taking this medicine."

"I started taking Loestrin 24 Fe when I was 19 years old for 4 years. I have a slim body, and I'm active. My periods are light, and I don't get cramps or back aches while on my period, and I don't have problems with acne. My periods were just very irregular. I would sometimes get my period the next month, the next week, and even the next three months! And they would last like 1 week, 2 weeks, and even 4 weeks one time! I was on Loestrin for 4 years because it didn't give me any negative side effects. It gave me regular periods, and I never got pregnant. I stopped taking it because my doc told me they discontinued it! So she prescribed me Minastrin 24 Fe. I looked up the reviews for it and didn't like what I saw. So I've been off bc for 2 years."

"I’m on the generic version of this pill, and it’s the worst thing ever and have been for four months now. I am constantly anxious, depressed, nauseous, and moody. Not to mention, I had two yeast infections in this time period from the pill. I’ve never had a yeast infection before. I am constantly dry down there, and my boobs are always sore. I didn’t gain weight, but I did lose a lot of hair. This pill is supposed to let me have sex and prevent pregnancy, when since being on this pill it’s made sex miserable and painful to where I don’t even have sex anymore. Lube doesn’t even make it better."

"I switched from Kariva because I was having pretty bad cramping during my period. I have been on Loestrin for a week. The first 3-4 days, I had severe migraines constantly. I was relieved when that passed, but a few days later, the insomnia began. I have a horrible time falling asleep, and when I can fall asleep, it's a very light sleep, and I feel exhausted all day, which is terrible since I have a 14-month-old to care for. I'm talking to my doctor and either switching back to Kariva (I'd rather have cramps than this) or using another method. I'm over pills. Can someone please make a pill for men? It's so unfair that we have to put our bodies through this to prevent pregnancy."

"I started taking this birth control because my doctor told me that I would have a 2-3 day period, so I was open to try it. After about 3 weeks, I had noticed I had huge pimples all over my face. I never had perfectly clear skin (I usually have 2 or 3 on my face), but I never had HUGE bumps all over my face. I have now realized that this birth control is the reason for it. I am coming off of it TODAY!"

"I have a newfound love for this birth control after switching from it to Seasonique to get out of having a period every month. The Seasonique made me gain weight, and I broke out horribly. Been back on Loestrin a week, and the weight is gone, my face is back to normal, my poor breasts are coming back (this birth control makes my breasts go up at least a cup size, awesome side effect). Besides the breast growth, it has also not failed me as a birth control method, I'm always sure to take it exactly on time every day."

"I have tried many birth control pills, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE this pill. So many others have caused extreme moodiness, anger, and depression. This pill works great at keeping my hormones level, my skin is clear, and I have had no weight gain. My period is barely anything, and usually I don't even have one. I highly recommend this pill. I know everyone is different, but if you have tried others and they caused you to lose your mind, try this one. The only downfall is that it can be pricey if your insurance does not fully cover it."

"I was given this prescription to help with very mild acne at the time, but mostly to help with my irregular cycle and unusually long periods. The first month I was taking this, my period lasted about 4 or 5 weeks, much longer than the usual week or a week and a half. I also noticed how my acne, specifically on my chin and jawline, worsened, which was disappointing, as I was sure this pill would help get rid of my acne, not make it worse. My cramps are terrible around this time, and my breasts hurt so much it’s nearly unbearable. I am 4 months in, and I am never taking this again. The only good thing about this is that after the first period, the rest are short and regulated. Would not recommend this to anyone unless you can put up with the pain and cramps and acne."

"I LOVE THIS! I have been on 2 other types of birth control before Loestrin, and they both made me a crazy person! I don't have any mood swings and haven't gained any weight, in fact, I've lost weight! The only negative thing I have to say is I'm pretty sure that it made my breasts bigger, but hubby isn't complaining. It can be pricey if you don't have insurance, but for me, it's worth it because I have zero side effects. The first month I had spotting, and now I get my period every month, it's very light and lasts 2-3 days. It's best to remember that every birth control is different for each individual. I was skeptical about trying Loestrin 24 when I read the reviews, but I tried it anyway, and I don't regret it!"

"I've been using Lo Loestrin Fe for about 3 years now. I'm 18 now and started it when I was 15. For the most part, my skin was pretty clear. Up until senior year of HS, my skin got crazy. Pimples popping up every day and leaving awful red scars. (My obgyn is putting me on Yaz soon.) Not excited about that either, birth control of all the horrible reviews I've read. I also have not had a period since starting the pill, which I've really enjoyed. I rate this a 5 because my doctor thinks that the Lo Loestrin is what's causing my acne. But I'm not too convinced."

"I've been on Loestrin 24 Fe for about two years, and it's been perfect. My periods have gone away, I usually bleed for a couple of days a month, which happens during the last two days of the iron pills. I have no cramping at all, no more mood swings. I used to have VERY heavy periods, and this is heaven compared to before. A warning though: you will get brown discharge sometimes if your period isn't as often or heavy. I've been on three different birth control pills, and this is the only one where I haven't gained weight, acne, or cramps."

"I have been using this for over 3 years now. I originally went on this pill because of heavy periods. Within 6 months of taking the pill, my periods were lighter and shorter. After taking this pill for a year, I now don't have periods (maybe 1 or 2 times a year). I take pregnancy tests monthly to be sure. I experienced no problems with this pill."

"I am 22 years old, and this is the first time I've been on a BC. After reading all the bad reviews, I wanted to make sure that there is at least a good one. Everyone's body is different and reacts differently. So don't let scary reviews scare you away. Try it for yourself, and if you don't like it, you can always find something that you do like. I have been on this BC for 3 weeks going on 4, and I love it so far! No spotting, mood swings, headaches, depression, and my skin is clearer than before. I have also noticed my boobs are getting bigger, they're a little sore but not bad. So far, I'd say it's a good experience."

"Alright, so I've been taking this for a month, and I was stoked about it at first because I love taking birth control, until going on 3 weeks later and I am still on my period. I've had really bad constant mood swings, high anxiety, and extremely high depression. I thought that it was normal me being me, and I thought that the period was just all me. I was trying to keep all negative thoughts out of my head because before I started taking this, I was fine. No anxiety, no depression, 6-day-long periods, and my anger was controlled. I read the reviews, and now I know what all of this is from, so I thank everyone for the reviews! I am quitting this immediately and switching to a different one."

"I was on Loestrin 24 for over three years, and it worked wonderfully with my period; after about two years, my period was so light that I rarely even got one, which was awesome. I also didn't experience any change in my sex drive. However, I accidentally went off of it about five months ago (due to a change in insurance, and I couldn't afford it), and after about three weeks of being off of it, I dropped ten pounds (which, while I was on the pill, I was never able to accomplish, no matter how hard I dieted) and found myself in a much more stable and elevated mood. I realized after the fact that, although the pill was great for doing what it was supposed to, it made me gain a ton of weight, and I was consistently mildly depressed."
