For Birth Control "I went on Blisovi for birth control over three months ago. In the past, I have been on Gildess and requested something similar when I restarted birth control this time around. I can only say really good things about this pill. I have had no side effects at all. The first month, I had some slightly irregular spotting and bleeding, but I had started the prescription on what I thought was the first day of my period but ended up being an unusual early spotting that then stopped, and my period started a few days later. However, after the first month, my periods have been lighter than normal without any increase in PMS symptoms. Bonus has been that I have also seen a decrease in pre-period breakouts (but for me, these were minimal prior to starting birth control). I know a lot of negative reviews are posted, but know that not everyone has a bad time on this pill."

For Birth Control "Terrible! Like so many others on this thread, I've gained weight, couldn't control my anxiety, and the bloating was insane! I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. It wasn't until there was a mix-up with my doctors and I was off it for less than a week that my appetite went back to normal, bloating down (sometimes I would look 5 months pregnant) and anxiety lessened immensely. I thought I was just gaining weight due to being in a new relationship. I wish I had read these reviews before I started this pill a year and a half ago! Never again would I ever take this pill. They should discontinue it."

For Birth Control "Got on here to read reviews and realized I’m not crazy! This medication has literally made me so irritable and mean. I have anxiety about everything and don’t want to do anything but lay around. It’s caused me to push so many people away from me!"

For Birth Control "I took this birth control pill for about a year, and it caused incredible amounts of nausea for me. My body would attempt to reject it by curbing my eating habits because when I took it without food, I would throw up about 5 times every 20-30 minutes in the middle of the night. If I ate something small, such as a banana, I would begin to feel nauseous about 4 hours later. It did help prevent pregnancy, but many times I used backup methods because there were many times I didn’t want to take it because of the vomiting. I also had severe mood swings, mainly resulting in irrational anger. I do consider myself someone who is more prone to anger and mood swings, but never in the way this birth control made them."

For Birth Control "I have been on birth control since 13 years old because of extremely painful and long periods. My doctor started me out on Microgestin, then my pharmacy switched me to Junel. Neither gave me side effects from what I could tell. Then, not long ago, I got switched to Blisovi. For months, I've been feeling extreme, paralyzing anxiety and the darkest depression I've ever experienced (and I've struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember). So I'm getting off of it. No period pain is worse than the anxiety and depression I have been experiencing. If you struggle with depression or anxiety, please stay off this medicine. Try Microgestin instead, but don't believe that these two medications are comparable."

For Birth Control "Like so many others, I've been on Microgestin for years before the pharmacist randomly put me on Blisovi. I've always had anxiety, but being on this pill made it even worse! I was breaking down, crying randomly and having more panic attacks. I also developed depression; I stopped enjoying the things I used to love doing. I also gained 15 lbs since taking it from March 2018 - January 2019. My sex drive also decreased. I didn't realize the pill was most likely responsible for my anxiety and depression; I thought it was my original diagnosis getting worse. The only good thing this pill did was prevent pregnancy and stop my migraines. I took them continuously to skip my periods, never had breakthrough bleeding or cramps."

For Birth Control "This birth control is probably the worst I’ve taken. I used to be on Microgestin and was switched, and upon taking my first couple of pills, suffered horrible nausea. A little nausea is normal for me, but the nausea was so bad I could barely move and was vomiting all day. It also made me break out all over my chin, and I couldn’t get it to clear up."

For Birth Control "I started taking Microgestin in 2014, and just this year in March, I went to pick up another pack and was told they no longer had it, but they gave me a new BC Blisovi and assured me it was exactly the same. Well, it’s not. My anxiety has been at an all-time high, as well as my depression. I have gained 15 pounds just from taking this pill from March to August. This pill has made my life awful, I am always so nauseous and irritated. Would not recommend whatsoever."

For Birth Control "Although I have not been on this birth control long, I have had no major problems. I was nervous starting this birth control for one reason: I’ve never taken birth control before, another reason is that the reviews were so bad. Within the first week of taking it, my skin has looked really clear, my usual bloating has gone away, and I have had no major issues that made me scared to take this birth control at first. I have been slightly more emotional, and another side effect I have is my stomach issues. I either feel not hungry sometimes, or I have diarrhea, but it’s nothing as bad as some other women have been through. It will take some time for my body to start getting used to this. Overall, I was skeptical of this, but it works for me, however, I know everyone’s body will react to it differently. Hope it works for everyone!!"

For Birth Control "I got this birth control through the app Nurx, and I thought it was the coolest, fastest way to get birth control. I was on microgestin before this pill, and everything was fine. Since getting this pill, I’ve noticed my anxiety skyrocket, mild depression, and I cry so much for every little thing, and my moods are just off the charts. I can be totally fine one moment, then something sets me off. And I feel angry most of the time. I thought this was only me, but now everything makes sense. I think I’ll stop taking this pill. I do not recommend."

"I used to be on Apri and switched to this Blisovi Fe 1.5/30 birth control because I was having breakthrough bleeding. I had never switched birth controls before. When switching initially, I had no side effects. I actually liked it for the first month. It stopped the breakthrough bleeding. However, over the next few months (6 to be exact), I noticed I was SO hormonal, crying, angry, anxious, and depressed over the smallest things. Things I would never get depressed about before. I also developed hormonal cystic acne around my jawline and on my back, which I had never experienced before. Just recently switched back to Apri, I’ll take the breakthrough bleeding over all of this, lol."

For Birth Control "It’s been two months since I’ve been on this new birth control. The first month I didn’t really have any side effects other than my acne flaring up and a super light period. The second month my acne calmed down, and my period was a little heavier, but here come the side effects. I started having horrible nightmares and waking up drenched in sweat. I would have hot flashes all through the day, and I was extremely tired. My anxiety was high, and I had mood swings. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me, I wanted to go to the ER because I felt like I could barely breathe, and the hot flashes were so intense I was scared I was going to pass out. I realized it was the birth control! I was skeptical of these bad reviews from people when I researched the pill before taking it, but sadly it’s true! Horrible experience. I gave 2 stars because my acne did clear up a bit and it prevented pregnancy."

For Birth Control "I had been taking Microgestin for 10 years (I didn't have a period, I didn't have cramps), when out of nowhere my pharmacy filled my script with Blisovi. For the first 3 months, I didn't notice anything... UNTIL I had a period for the first time in 10 years, and I started to get the worst cramps that would last 2 weeks. I also started to get the worst cystic acne on my jawline, neck, and around my mouth. My gynecologist had to write a new script that specifically spelled out 'Microgestin brand name only to be filled.' Long story short... These two birth controls are NOT the same."

For Birth Control "I've been on the Blisovi pill for 7 months now, and it recently got bad. I started the pill due to my very long and irregular periods. At first, it seemed as if nothing had changed, but then over time, my periods shortened and have been the most painful they have ever been. I'm still very irregular and still having painful cramps (that kept me up all night), as well as my emotions, which have gone through the roof. Crying every night, bad mood swings, and weight loss (I was already 10 pounds underweight). I'm constantly angry at the people I love for no reason, and the only explanation is the pill. My acne was never really bad, but I did find that my chest and back broke out more than usual. I plan to stop taking this!!!"

For Birth Control "I got switched to this somehow in the transition to Nurx, and my pharmacy gave me this-I'm still trying to sort it out and not blaming anyone. I had been a couple of days without birth control because my old prescription, Lo Loestrin, which I love and have taken for years, had expired. So I started taking this anyway since I'd been without. I've been taking it for two weeks, and my skin on my chest and back has broken out with acne. I haven't experienced this since my teen years. My breasts have been swollen and tender, and I swear I feel like I've gained 5-7 pounds. I'm also getting cramps that have disrupted my sleeping. I wasn't expecting this medicine to be any different from my Lo Estrin, but it's awful. I had actually forgotten how bad the wrong birth control can mess with you. I'm trying to sort out my prescription and have stopped taking this. Thank goodness my husband has had a vasectomy. I take BC because it causes me not to have periods and regulates hormonal fluctuations."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Blisovi for a year and a half. Within one year, I went from 128 to 140 pounds, despite eating a plant-based diet and exercising every day! For reference, I typically only gain 1-3 pounds a year at most! It has prevented pregnancy and helped my cramps, but after reading these experiences, I’m wondering if my acid reflux and anxiety have been worsened by Blisovi. I have recently been put on Nexium to control my acid reflux, and I’m only 23 years old! It has never been as bad as it has been this past year and a half. I have also had random bouts of depression, major anxiety, and began getting strong and painful headaches this year. The only reason I want to continue Blisovi is because it has cleared my acne up after struggling with acne since I was 13, and it has prevented pregnancy, but the extreme weight gain is really weighing down my confidence, especially because my everyday cardio doesn’t seem to lower my weight."

For Birth Control "I haven’t had many problems with Blisovi other than bad headaches and nausea when I take the pill wrong (miss a day or take it late). The Blisovi is great for me, it helped my periods regulate and not be so heavy. Also, it cleared my acne right up."

For Birth Control "I started taking Blisovi Fe 1.5/30 because my periods were so heavy and painful. The only positive thing this medication has done is pretty much taken away my period cramps and made my actual period so light I only needed a liner. I’ve been on it for two months, but I’m going to switch to a more mild birth control because my boobs are killing me! For the past week or so, I can’t even sleep on my stomach! This has never happened to me before. They’re also swollen. It made my acne much worse as well, and I’m getting random cramps at night."

For Birth Control "I want to thank all the other women coming forward about the horrible side effects of being switched from regular Microgestin to this medicine by the pharmacist. I hadn’t pieced this all together: why the immense anger, anxiety, sleeplessness, swelling in my legs, and 22 lbs of weight gain in 4 months after being about the same weight for 5 years! It’s been a horrible 18 months for me. This month, I opted to skip birth control to see if it helped the bloating and mood swings, and it did. I peed all the time, lost tons of water weight, slept through the night, and could button my jeans again. I went to start my birth control today, the Blisovi, I hesitated and decided to do some research and found all of these voices. I am exhausted by our struggles and doctors saying all generics are the same. Stick with Microgestin, and if you are one of the new users who thinks it’s great, track your weight, mood, and sleep over at least 6 months and see if you don’t notice a change."

For Birth Control "I’m a med student and like to tinker with my prescriptions when I learn new stuff. In 2009, I started on Loestrin, which caused me to break out and spot. The type of progesterone used in 2nd-gens (like Loestrin & Blisovi) is quite androgenic, and the side effects were the reason they developed 3rd-gen pills. So, in 2012, I switched to a 3rd-gen and put up with its side effects (decreased sex drive & hyper-emotional days) for years. In 2017, I read about using Spironolactone with a 2nd-gen: Spiro blocks androgen-binding peripherally, so taking it with a 2nd-gen means less acne/weight gain. The result: I’ve *lost* 5 pounds, my sex drive is better, no hyper-emotionality, and I have only 2 or 3 acne spots a month. Negatives: slight nipple sensitivity and a day of spotting a month. I also had an adjustment phase with some acid-reflux symptoms (due to the more potent progesterone) at the beginning. If you can handle Spiro, I cannot recommend this combination highly enough - huge success."

For Acne "I started birth control 6 weeks ago (one month, 2 weeks) hoping it would help with my acne, heaviness of my flow, and cramps. So far, I've had my period 3 times this month, lasting around 1-3 days. Before I started birth control, I didn't have bad skin, just breakouts when my menstrual cycle began. Ever since starting birth control, I've had so many breakouts, to the point where I don't want to be seen. Yes, my acne isn't as bad as others, but it's still bothersome when I went on this medication to fix this problem."

For Birth Control "My skin was completely clear, and I had very nice skin that I worked very hard for before taking this. I was given Blisovi because my normal birth control was out of stock. I have only been on it for 2 weeks, and I have horrible breakouts all over my cheeks, some on my forehead. Deep cystic acne and red bumpy acne. I had to go to the dermatologist because at first I couldn't figure out what could possibly be causing this. It came out of nowhere. Nothing else has changed in my life for me to break out this bad - diet, exercise, etc., is the same. I hate that I have to get this acne cleared up now, all because of something I only took for 2 weeks. Be aware that it can really change your skin!!"

For Birth Control "I've been on Blisovi for 4 months after previously taking a different pill for 3.5 years. I switched because my old pill was not strong enough hormonally, and I would have periods that lasted over 3 months while taking that pill (no exaggeration). While Blisovi finally stopped my constant breakthrough bleeding, it has given me more side effects than anything I've ever taken before. The biggest issue is that I am allergic and began getting quarter-sized hives all over my body that have not gone away until I stopped the medication. My skin became extremely oily, and now I have more acne than I did before starting birth control 3 years ago. I have awful mood swings, and my anxiety is the worst it has been in 4 years. I had none of these problems on my old birth control. I now have to search for a third birth control pill because the side effects of Blisovi are almost as bad as my vomit-inducing 10-day period that I get without BC."

For Birth Control "I was taking a different brand of birth control before Blisovi. That birth control had me on my period for about 2 and a half weeks, and it drove me insane. My doctor then prescribed Blisovi, and luckily it caused my period to stop. But ONLY FOR 1 AND A HALF DAYS. I’m currently still bleeding. I’ve been bleeding for almost a week. I log my periods, but for the past few days it would be weird. One day I’d be bleeding, the next day I wouldn’t. Last night I didn’t bleed at all, this morning I have severe cramps and major blood clots coming out."

For Birth Control "Recently, I have been dealing with terrible hormonal acne around my mouth and chin, basically, my whole lower face was absolutely terrible. After using Clindamycin Phosphate and Tretinoin gel along with Minocycline topical for 2-3 months, I saw no results. Finally, I asked the doctor to prescribe me birth control, and within 3 weeks of using it, I began seeing some improvement. It’s now two months later (still early), but my skin has changed DRASTICALLY. I now have hardly any active acne, maybe 2 or 3 bumps overall. Now, the rest of my past acne is just fading acne scars. I am still using the other treatments paired with this birth control, but I did not start seeing improvements until I began taking this pill. My skin is getting so much better. I will update this in a few months when hopefully my acne is gone. If you have bad acne, take the leap of faith!"
