"Started on .01 mg once a day, Feb 21, 2021. As of the 15th of June, the doc raised it to 2x a day for BP spike at night, yet told her I wanted off this med. Then tried .02 mg for 2 days, and I had the worst burning in my stomach and colon. Severely constipated and couldn't poop!! Headache and back pain too. Way too many side effects for me. Now trying to wean off, and my heart rate is way high. Be very careful with this med."

"I started taking clonidine 0.01 mg, and it helped for a while, though it made my feet swell and turn red. I kept on it but had to go up to 0.02 mg. Then my hair started falling out in handfuls. So I wanted off of it. Just know this med interacts with other BP meds, so be careful and see if there's an interaction before adding to it, and wean off, do not just stop."

"I have been taking clonidine for eight years and due to the effects of this drug I have almost no hair left. It kept my blood pressure down, but at a horrible price. I suffer from intense itching and my scalp is full of sores, dead skin, and rashes. I am frightened to go off this medicine. After many years of practicing good health habits, I have an addiction to a BP drug that is as dangerous as an opioid."

"For some reason, this was the very first med my doctor RX'd me for hypertension at a dosage of 0.1 mg twice a day. It lowered my blood pressure, but not by much, so he increased it to 0.2 mg twice per day. Blood pressure still high, and he AGAIN increased it to 0.2 mg 3 times a day. It lowered my blood pressure very little, but mostly it just made me groggy and gave me dry mouth. He finally added metoprolol XR, and my blood pressure is getting better. However, the clonidine does come in handy for other things like opiate withdrawal, sleep, and headache prevention."

"Helps with blood pressure but not for very long. Also, it affects my diastolic pressure but not my systolic. And it will make you very dizzy and sometimes nauseous when first started or dosage is changed. Will also make you feel like you haven’t slept."

"In a nutshell, my experience was horrible. Extreme fatigue to the point of not being able to get up from the couch for several days. The fatigue was coupled with dizziness. Also, I would fall asleep while doing things, like in the middle of a conversation. It really didn’t help me much in lowering my BP."

"I was sleeping within 30 minutes, no side effects (UNICHEM white oval pills). Then I realized the pharmacy refilled ACTAVIS (peach color, round pills). I took it at 11 pm. It is now 5:52 AM as I write this. I have not slept. Check your meds before you leave the pharmacy. Or do what I did: have your pharmacy note your account that you only want UNICHEM. My rating for UNICHEM is 10. Rating for ACTAVIS is 10 if used for ADHD, but 1 if used for sleep."

"I started with a low dose of 0.75 mcg and slowly increased. Then I felt something very strange and uncomfortable: shakiness, anxiety, confusion (moderate). Also, I'm noticing that this may lead to an ADDICTION!"

"I am adding this review to my review in February 2023. It is now August 1st, 2023, and I have finally been off Clonidine for 6 weeks today. The only way I was able to do this was by replacing my 0.01 afternoon pill with 100 mg of Labetalol. As I said in my February 2023 review, I was on 20 mg of Lisinopril a.m. and p.m. along with 0.01 Clonidine morning, afternoon, and evening. After replacing my afternoon dose of Clonidine with 100 mg of Labetalol for 3 weeks, I then took only 100 mg of Labetalol morning, afternoon, and evening. My blood pressure is now stable and sometimes on the low side, however, I still have a very dry mouth and sores in my mouth, along with digestive issues that have improved. Since I was on Clonidine for over a year, I feel it will take time for my body to heal. I also had muscle aches and so many side effects from the Clonidine that are getting better as time goes on. As I said, it may be good for some people, but over time, Clonidine caused havoc on my overall health."

"Have been on so many BP meds, and they either did not work or gave me horrible side effects. With clonidine, it takes my BP down. I only have systolic issues. They were using clonidine as my emergency drug when BP was in the 170s or more. I have decided to take this drug every day. I do get constipation, which I have a sluggish colon to start with, dry mouth, and blurred vision off and on, and for a time after taking my dose, my legs feel weak; but that goes away. This needs to be my main BP drug. I was 200 last night and scared, so I took the whole 0.1 pill; usually do the 1/2 pills."

"Was recently at the doctor, and my BP had spiked, so he tried adding clonidine twice a day. After the 1st dose, just before going to bed, I was initially a little dizzy (not bad), and I slept well. However, later, when I was driving home from an appointment, I nearly passed out. Not good! After the next dose, same dizziness and drowsiness and later followed by again almost passing out. The 1st 2 symptoms can be handled, but the risk of passing out while driving is not worth it."

"I have dangerously high blood pressure and dysautonomia and mild anxiety, and I've been on this medication for six months now. Sadly, it's not done anything for my blood pressure or really helped with my dysautonomia/autonomic symptoms, however, I'm on 100 micrograms a day, which is 0.1 mg a day. I've not had any side effects except dry mouth and sleep issues. I'm hugely sensitive to medications, so I'm not sure if we can up the dose soon or not. But for people that don't know, this does come in smaller doses now, and I take 25 microgram tablets, which four of those are equal to 0.1 mg."

"It has been saving my life for years. I was just on the pills but had a lot of rebound hypertension, so I went to the patch 3 mg, which works great. I still take 1 mg pills for BP over 160 systolic. I have no side effects that I know of. It works for me, and while it is short-acting, it can often stop my BP from going up over 200, which it tried to do often. I wouldn’t be alive without it. I’m on 4-5 other BP meds too, but they don’t kick in for hours. This works very quickly for me."

"I have the side effects others have mentioned -- drowsiness, dry mouth, etc. -- but they're manageable. Sometimes it works great to control my blood pressure, but other times it's totally ineffective (on the same day). I would rate it higher if it wasn't so inconsistent."
