For Prostatitis "I was prescribed “Ciprofloxacin” for 4 weeks due to prostatitis 3 years ago. I was told by my GP it would give me “diarrhea!” and I had to take probiotics to soothe my stomach. I can remember having stomach cramps while taking the medication, as well as nausea, but it wasn’t too bad at all."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've been feeling the symptoms of a UTI for 2 days now (it burns when I urinate, and there's been a hint of blood), and good thing I had stock of this at home (500 mg) since I was already prescribed this for a UTI once before. Just took a dose, and after an hour, fortunately, the burning when peeing cleared, but feeling slightly nauseous, confused, and heavy. But I can say this works wonders for my UTI, it worked for me before too!"

For Bacterial Infection "Not even characters for this, but here we go: As a 16-year-old boy, I suffered a sports injury to the groin and was prescribed Cipro to fight any infection for a testicular torsion. After 2 days of taking it, I became violently ill and was having unbearable chest and back pains. The ER doctor told me to continue taking it. I took it for another 2 days. I was found unconscious in my high school bathroom. Rush to the hospital to have a CT show I was in complete renal failure. My kidneys at 27%, all caused by the Cipro. I made a recovery, but it wasn’t easy. I’ve never been the same. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRUG. Do a quick search on the internet for “CIPRO TOXICITY,” and you’ll know why."

For Kidney Infections "I was prescribed Cipro on a Friday. Random body heat spikes. Back hurt. Nausea. Bad dreams. I didn't find out until Monday when my doctor called with the bladder test that I was resistant to Cipro, and they put me on Nitrofurantoin. Hope it works. I would recommend asking your doctor for another antibiotic other than Cipro."

Ciprofloxacin for Prostatitis "30-day prescription up to 60. After the first week of mild nausea and mild diarrhea, I developed a weird tightness in my right hip, severe tennis elbow, and weird pain/headache behind my left eye for 2-3 days, bloating, some nights unable to sleep due to insomnia and tremors/weird body vibrations. Mornings were hell due to my coffee drinking and the foggy brain. Do not drink coffee while taking this! 3 weeks after stopping, I still have some prostatitis symptoms but have greatly improved. However, the side effects from the med of muscle tightness, brain fog, foot pain, hip pain, back tightness, lack of appetite, and fatigue still remain but seem to be subsiding a bit. I wish the docs would explain the meds they prescribe, but I don't think they really know!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed ciprofloxacin for a UTI. And by the second day, I was back at the ER. I felt absolutely horrible, this medicine made me feel so sick. My head was pounding, my eyelids felt heavy, so much like gas in my stomach. I will never take this medicine again, my hands and fingers are numb at least 2 days after stopping the medicine. I would rather take a longer treatment of Keflex than take this medicine, and it spiked my blood sugar also!!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Cipro for a treatment of 7 days, two a day every 12 hours. I'm on the 4th day, I woke up feeling extremely sick. I've felt physically ill. I don't even think I can take anymore, I've felt terrible while on this. I just got diarrhea today. I've had back and flank pain, nausea, trouble eating, and a general tired feeling since the day I started. The infection is cleared up though, no urinary tract infection symptoms at all while urinating. The side effects are horrible though, I can't even finish them."

For Bladder Infection "DANGEROUS. Prescribed this for a very painful bladder infection and was given no warnings. I suffered nearly all the side effects (nausea was the worst), but the 500 mg every 12 hours only had an effect for about 6 hours, the infection would return before it was time to take the next dose. Three days of 40-degree Celsius fevers, being worn down, very little sleep, uncontrollable shaking twice each day, and I was in a bad way. I'm 59 and have taken antibiotics all my life-yearly in fact-until about 25 years ago when I gave up smoking. Since then, I have taken antibiotics maybe four times. The last time was about a year ago for a cat bite down to the bone. Don't recall any side effects. I went private yesterday and got the pills changed."

For Sinusitis "This medication made me nauseous every time I took it, but I continued to take it. On the 7th day, I became very ill. Chills, vomiting, hurting, and I stayed in bed for 2 days except for going to the Instant Care. They said I had an allergic reaction. The doctor also gave me a 1-pill medication to prevent a yeast infection."

Ciprofloxacin for Salmonella Gastroenteritis "22 yr old female, got prescribed Cipro for stomach flu symptoms without testing what the cause actually was. Had pretty bad side effects - nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, chills, couldn't sleep at night. Ended up going to the ER because I got dehydrated and couldn't stop throwing up :( Wouldn't recommend unless you get tested and it's the only alternative."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I am on ciprofloxacin for 3 days along with pyridium for a UTI. I have felt nauseous, heady, tired, and have had increased anxiety since starting these meds. Today I had dry heaves, nausea, drained feeling, and a full-blown panic attack. I will be calling my doctor tomorrow for a possible replacement. I am going on vacation on Thursday and don't want any of these side effects. UTI symptoms are better, but I don't think it is cleared up fully. Scared."

For Kidney Infections "I was prescribed Cipro for my kidney infection two nights ago. Yesterday, I had an allergic reaction to the Cipro. I was feeling all of the side effects: dizziness, headache, nausea, lightheadedness; also had loss of appetite. My throat had swelled up due to this medication, so no other medication went down my throat, and luckily I hadn't eaten solid foods. Because it had swelled up, I also could not breathe normally. I had constant shortness of breath. I revisited the health center and was told that I had an allergic reaction to this med and that this medication is not recommended whatsoever since it is outdated. Beware if you are given Cipro; I would suggest having it swapped out for another medication. I could have easily died if I took another dose, and if my throat swelled up even more, I wouldn't be able to catch a breath. I really feel lucky that I got the help quickly."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Many of the symptoms described in these posts can be a result of the urinary tract infection itself. I had fever, the chills, nausea, vomiting, headache, and tender abdomen. As soon as I went on Cipro, most of those symptoms subsided. I took a couple of days to knock back the fever."

For Prostatitis "Was prescribed this medicine for my own self-diagnosis of prostatitis since I told my doctor that my symptoms related mainly to it, so he called me in cipro without any further testing. Don't remember the dose, but I think 250-500 mg twice a day for two weeks. At first, I felt fine until like 5 days into it I got diarrhea, sharp stomach pains, headaches, dizziness, itching, or pin-like feelings, and today I called and asked if I could stop it because of the nausea, and I can't sleep well, and it makes me feel weak. So I've officially stopped it. Had feelings of anxiety as well. First time taking it, and I hope I don't have to ever again."

For Kidney Infections "I was hospitalized for 10 days for kidney stones and a kidney infection. At home now: started Cipro Day 3 - 2x per day. Extreme nausea waves day and night. Also, vivid dreams. Sleeping all day and up at night. Be sure to eat something before and after taking this drug. Will call Doc tomorrow to have him take me off this and prescribe another antibiotic instead. I do not like the way this drug is making me feel during my recovery. I've had enough beat-down to my body before and during my hospitalization, including acquired sepsis."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 500 mg, twice a day for UTI during 7 days. Pain/urgency/burning was gone on day 1. Day 2 and 3 went pretty smooth, too... just a little nauseous... but I figured that I was taking the pill with an empty stomach. Day 4 I was good, almost convinced I was 100% until day 5... I’m not nauseous anymore, however, from my flanks to my neck, oh boy, I feel really uncomfortable. Back/muscle "pain". Stiff neck. My back pops all the time, so do my knees. Reading these comments made me feel a little better, though, because it seems like I’m not the only one. I’m on day 6, and I just can’t wait until Friday so I’ll be done! 4 more pills to go and finally FREE! Overall, Cipro works well!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had a recurrent UTI for several months that did not respond to Amoxicillin (because the third culture came back as Pseudomonas bacteria, which is a stubborn infection). I am allergic to Bactrim and was forced to take Cipro rather than be hospitalized for IV treatment. I don't like the side effects of this drug---dizziness, anxiety, burning sensation on skin, nausea, brain fog, body aches, and more. I am basically bedridden for 5 days when on this. I was prescribed 500 mg 2x daily, but I could never tolerate that high amount and break the pills in half for 250 mg 2x a day. It causes panic attacks in people who are prone to that, which I am. It is very depressing to use this drug. It works, but you pay a high price if you get the side effects. (age 70). I doubt I can go through this again and would prefer to be hospitalized and given some benzodiazepines, painkillers, and food service in addition."

Ciprofloxacin for Surgical Prophylaxis "I was prescribed this after having a stent placed in my ureter due to kidney stones. Took as directed, one 500 mg tab twice a day for 14 days. By day 3, I could barely tolerate the nausea, bloating, and headaches, but continued to take as prescribed. By day 5, after taking the 2nd dose for that day, I started getting a pounding, accelerated heart rate followed by anxiety. Called my urologist's office, the doctor told me to stop taking the Cipro immediately, so now it's on my allergy list."

For Pneumonia "I have received this drug ciprofloxacin to treat pneumonia. It was not until 5 days were up that my temperature returned to normal. In addition, the side effects were close to unbearable. Nausea and vomiting until Day 4 when I received an anti-nausea drug used to ease chemotherapy. Excruciating all-body muscle pain, needing double doses of extra strength Tylenol. I also felt very depressed. Other drugs previously prescribed produced the same results without these side effects. I intend to avoid this drug in the future."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Had a severe UTI but didn't start getting any symptoms until it was too late and became unbearable. My doctor prescribed 500 mg twice a day of ciprofloxacin. After the first pill, symptoms went away. No more sudden urgency or burning or spasms in the groin. However, after the third pill I took, I experienced severe nausea and vomiting and started to become extremely drowsy. So far, it's a great medicine overall, it's just some of the minor side effects are a tad unbearable."

For Bladder Infection "I will NEVER take this ciprofloxacin garbage again!!! I was taking Ambien (I will also never take it again, seeing that it takes a full week to get out of your system). Anyways, I was told to stop taking the Ambien when I started the Cipro. Well, I started the Cipro and the very next day I was excessively drowsy and horribly depressed!!! Even though I stopped the Ambien. I was so, so sleepy I couldn't see straight! I had absolutely no appetite for two weeks, even after stopping the Cipro. I had lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks from not being able to eat!!!! Besides being extremely sleepy, my mood had gone downhill pretty fast. I was nauseous, my head pounded, and I was also extremely grouchy. None of this started until I started the Cipro. Never ever again. I will stick to Bactrim."

For Kidney Infections "I was given these from the hospital for a severe kidney infection. The dosage was two 500 mg for 5 days. Worst tablets I've ever been on, they made me want to self-detonate. They have even given me jaundice, which is a 1 in 1,000 chance. They were very fast-acting towards the kidney and kidney pain, which is good, but side effects were very, very nasty. Side effects I experienced: - severe nausea - dry mouth - vomiting - dizziness - abdominal pain - headache - muscle aches - confusion - extreme fatigue - fever and cold sweats - jaundice (yellowing of skin, eyes, and urine). I've been off the tablets for about 48 hours now (thank God), but now need time to be treated for jaundice. The only good thing I can say about these is that they are very fast-acting. I wouldn't recommend these at all, even if you are desperate, please ask for something else."

Ciprofloxacin for Bacterial Infection "This was a bit scary to be on because of possible side effects, but it worked. I had a severe inner ear infection for a year. It started with sinus infections, then inner ear. It went to my tonsil and adenoids. A Z-pack, then 10 days of normal antibiotics, then Cipro last. I was nauseated the first dose, but I ate some crackers and it settled. I followed the rules to the letter of how to take and what not to take with it. I was also on a corticosteroid, so I was very careful not to strain or work too hard. Had no real problems with this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have been having recurrent UTIs for about two years. Most recently was prescribed 500 mg Cipro twice a day for 10 days. The first few days, it made me very nauseous and dizzy, and it didn't matter if I took it with food or not. It's also given me bad heartburn and gas pretty much constantly. I'm on my eighth day, and I've noticed some of my UTI symptoms will pop up again randomly but then go away again. Seems to be an effective med for some, but I may end up having to try something else."
