"Day 2, three tablets down, about to take my second one and last one for the day. I'm an anxious person generally, so of course I looked up the side effects... The ones I've experienced are extreme nausea, bloating, gas, feverishness, dizziness, hot and cold sweats. But only three tablets in, and it's helping a lot with the pain in the kidneys on and off, though. Got to say the nausea is the worst part, I'm practically bedbound. Most of this is probably due to how bad my infection, but it got worse after taking ciprofloxacin."

"I was prescribed Cipro as a precaution due to a kidney blockage I have. I can't say how effective it is because I don't have an infection. I just wanted to comment on side effects. I did not have any side effects at all that I'm aware of. I'm extremely sensitive to everything! This hasn't seemed to bother me at all. Then again, I'm only on a 5-day treatment plan."

"Have been taking Cipro for 5 days now for a severe bladder infection. Had completely taken my pain away that was at a level 10 by day 2. However, the side effects have been horrible. Nausea even with food, light-headed, motion sickness, bloating, and I seem to be constipated. So far, this is a small price to pay for the horrendous infection to be gone."

"Was prescribed ciprofloxacin for a kidney infection, and I would honestly rather have the kidney infection. After two days of taking it, my neck became sore and then numb. I had tingling and numbness in different spots of my body. I felt so tired I could barely lift my head up, my muscles felt weak and shaky. The thing that scares me the most is the numbness. I'm calling my doctor and asking for a different antibiotic. Would not recommend, I don't think it's safe for anyone. I've never had a reaction like this to an antibiotic before."

"I was prescribed cipro for my bad kidney infection about 2 days ago, so I am still currently taking this drug. The bad part for me is the side effects. Oh my! My dreams have been so vivid that I hate sleeping. Like I literally start dreaming before I'm even asleep. I was starting to think I was losing my mind! I feel like I'm in a cloud or something :-( I don't think I can take it!"

"I had to go to the ER because it was so bad. They gave me cipro, and I feel way worse than when I went to the emergency. I've been taking it for two days now, and the pain on my right side feels like it's on fire. I can't stand up for longer than a few minutes, and I've been throwing up every couple of hours. Antibiotics are supposed to make you better, not worse."

"I'll start off saying I have never had a reaction to medication in my life and have NKA (no known allergies). I should have known better after reading the three pages of warnings, but given my positive track record with medications, I figured I'd give it a go, which was a bad decision. The first day on Cipro was mostly uneventful. I did have a small problem with blood sugar levels, but that was expected since it was listed as a possible mild side effect. By day two, I started noticing pain in my inner thighs. Not a lot at first, but by day three, the tendons in both legs felt like they were on fire. I called my doctor and was told to stop. It's been three days since I stopped taking Cipro, and the pain continues. I am unable to sleep unless I pass out from exhaustion. I require assistance with walking and have difficulty concentrating. I wish I had read the reviews before taking this stuff. As others have said, you are rolling the dice with Cipro. It really needs to be removed from the market."

Ciprofloxacin "Went to the doc with the typical symptoms of a kidney infection. While my UA was clear, the doc Rx'ed Cipro. I'd had a bad reaction in the past (depression) but decided to try again since I was desperate for relief. This time it hit me completely different-more of a mood lift than anything. I recall Levaquin making me feel almost hypomanic like this too, which I didn't mind. More importantly, the infection seems to be improving. Make sure to read the package insert & follow the dosing instructions carefully. Take with food & a large glass of water (or two). Avoid caffeine in any form, calcium/magnesium supplements & sunlight, as well as NSAIDs. If you're worried about tendon rupture, avoid exercise. Most people don't bother reading the dosing instructions or think they don't apply to them, then wonder why the med made them sick. Obviously, fluoroquinolones are heavy-duty meds that can cause damage, but that goes for many things in life. Risk vs. benefit."

"I've been on Cipro for 4 days now. 500 mg twice a day every 12 hours. I am handling it well, but as a powerlifter, learning what it does to your joints and tendons is terrifying. Be careful while training if you are active. This medicine can cause rips in your tendons and swelling of joints. It can take months to repair. I've stayed away from the gym while on my cycle of Cipro. Be smart with this drug, and it will do miracles. As for the fluoride, no idea why it's in there. It plays no part in the healing process and is only used to cloud your judgment. (P.S. Fluoride was first put in concentration camps to cause the prisoners confusion, delayed reactions, and a foggy mind.) Do your research, people!"

"I was rushed to the emergency room with a kidney infection, and I was prescribed this to help treat the urinary tract infection. The worst part was definitely the side effects. I've had extreme nausea and bloating pains, they have been unbearable. I must say the medicine really works! After I finished my antibiotics, it was completely gone. I was more than surprised. I still have some side effects now (I got off medicine two days ago), but they aren't as severe as before. If you're up for the task, definitely take it because it works-just some obstacles in the process."

"Had cystitis for one month - 2 different sets of antibiotics did not work - a few days later woke with bad cystitis, fever, chills, pain, dizzy, sick - had a kidney infection! Put on Cipro for 7 days, twice a day - on day 6, now think infection is gone but still have some back pain. Cipro makes me very tired and weak and also a bit not with it - woozy. I have been drinking fresh ginger in hot water 3 times a day - helps nausea and also gets my fluid intake up - it really helps - I think Cipro is good and seems to be the only thing that helps me with cystitis. Drs won’t prescribe as first line or second line - now my GP decided to test me to see why I get cystitis so often. I have to persevere with this Cipro now but my body is weak and tired from prolonged infection."

"I was put on an antibiotic while waiting for my urine culture to come back, and the day after I finished that course of antibiotics, I was put on Cipro, as the bacteria was not sensitive to the previous antibiotic. I have only taken 2 Cipro (last night and this morning), but I've had to stop taking them as my wrist is swollen to nearly twice its normal size and I have almost intense pain."

"Yeah, was almost hospitalized for kidney infection, felt like you wanted to pee badly and right side of kidney hurting. I have never felt that in my life, this infection what I'm going through right now. I'm stubborn for not taking the pills. A few days of not taking them, that pain came back but not as bad as before. Anyways, I started taking the pills again because the infection is still there. I thought I was cured, guess I'm not, so I took them pills again, pain vanished 20 minutes, but my infection is slowly going away, but just a few side effects: dizzy, ab pain. Just one thing this doc told me: don't eat with the cipro, no coffee, no pop, no alcohol - just take it with water. This infection is terrible, I am thankful for ciprofloxacin, as I was just hurting badly an hour ago, and now I feel a bit fine now. Only 3 pills to go, but I feel I need more just so this pain does not come back."

"Got diagnosed with my third kidney infection in two months, nothing seems to make it go away. Have been taking 500 mg twice a day for 3 days now, and I still have pain in my side, and the side effects are nasty. Bad nausea, acid reflux, and dizziness are making me have to sleep with a bowl next to my bed. But hey ho, if it works, it's a small price to pay. Not impressed right now though."

"This medicine, ciprofloxacin, is horrible. It was given to my daughter for a kidney infection, and it gave her headaches, fever, back pain, and nausea. Gonna call the doctor and ask them to change this medicine."

"This pill cleared up my UTI that had spread to my kidney. However, I had some bad side effects. First off, this pill destroyed my stomach. I had intense pain in my upper abdomen and couldn't eat without terrible indigestion and discomfort. This started immediately after starting the medication and stopped the day my pills ran out. I also had insane dreams, which kept me from sleeping. Very vivid, strange dreams. I'm glad my infection was gone, but I could not wait to stop this medication."

"I was prescribed Cipro on a Friday. Random body heat spikes. Back hurt. Nausea. Bad dreams. I didn't find out until Monday when my doctor called with the bladder test that I was resistant to Cipro, and they put me on Nitrofurantoin. Hope it works. I would recommend asking your doctor for another antibiotic other than Cipro."

Ciprofloxacin "I took Cipro, having suffered a UTI from the Mirena coil that wouldn't clear. As with all medications, the side effects, depending on the individual, can be horrendous. I suffered swellings, hives, a horrendous red rash on both underarms that left my skin damaged. The next side effect was tendonitis in both my ankles that left me unable to walk. I was told that the tablet reacted to the sun. I had factor 50 just sitting on the patio for half an hour and got burned. A nightmare."

Ciprofloxacin "Was given Cipro for a bladder infection. Took it for 5 or 6 days. Every day I felt sicker to the point that I couldn't even eat. Lost 10 pounds in three days. All I could do was sleep. My wife looked it up and found that this antibiotic has fluoride in it. No wonder I felt sick! I have never had a reaction to any other medications, so this was new for me. Within 24 hours of stopping Cipro, I felt like myself again, so I knew it was the medication. Fluoride, really? Can anyone say 'Lab Rat'? Never again!"

"I was taking Cipro after I had lithotripsy. I got it through my IV during my surgery and was sent home with it, 500 mg twice a day. I felt horrible, all I wanted to do was sleep and had horrible dreams. I felt like I was 'drunk' the entire time. I couldn't walk down the hall of my home without running into the walls. It is terrible."

"I was prescribed Cipro for my kidney infection two nights ago. Yesterday, I had an allergic reaction to the Cipro. I was feeling all of the side effects: dizziness, headache, nausea, lightheadedness; also had loss of appetite. My throat had swelled up due to this medication, so no other medication went down my throat, and luckily I hadn't eaten solid foods. Because it had swelled up, I also could not breathe normally. I had constant shortness of breath. I revisited the health center and was told that I had an allergic reaction to this med and that this medication is not recommended whatsoever since it is outdated. Beware if you are given Cipro; I would suggest having it swapped out for another medication. I could have easily died if I took another dose, and if my throat swelled up even more, I wouldn't be able to catch a breath. I really feel lucky that I got the help quickly."

"Was prescribed this for a kidney infection. After only one dose, experienced: nightmares, insomnia, paranoia, an odd feeling of being out of my body. By the 3rd dose, I was afraid to go into a dark room, was crying constantly, and had feelings of overwhelming doom. By dose 5, my legs were tingling and weak and psychological symptoms worsening. Also, after this dose, my infection made a comeback and antibiotic resistance was to blame. They put me on Bactrim. Before ciprofloxacin, I was a very sane, very healthy woman, and this drug changed me. Ten days later, I still feel off."

"I was hospitalized for 10 days for kidney stones and a kidney infection. At home now: started Cipro Day 3 - 2x per day. Extreme nausea waves day and night. Also, vivid dreams. Sleeping all day and up at night. Be sure to eat something before and after taking this drug. Will call Doc tomorrow to have him take me off this and prescribe another antibiotic instead. I do not like the way this drug is making me feel during my recovery. I've had enough beat-down to my body before and during my hospitalization, including acquired sepsis."

Ciprofloxacin "Don’t take this. I’ve been taking it for three days, and I can’t sleep, I’m in pain, my Achilles tendons hurt. My legs have pins and needles, and they are extremely restless. My heartbeat is irregular and fast. My mental health has plummeted. I don’t know what to do. I can’t take this for five more days, I have to stop. I just want these side effects to be over, this is a nightmare."
