For Urinary Tract Infection "This drug (Cipro) caused me irreversible joint damage after 2 pills. It also caused weakness, high blood pressure, and mental changes. I was weak and unstable for months after use. Years later, I still have joint damage. I would NOT recommend, even though it did clear my UTI. This drug should be used as a last resort, only in a life or death situation when permanent joint damage is better than the alternative."

For Diverticulitis "This works, but the side effects are horrible. Nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, right-side neck and shoulder pain and stiffness, mental fog, and general malaise. This medication has 'black box' warnings I was never told about, what a mess. Quitting after 5 days and hoping for the best. Nasty stuff! If there is an alternative, they should not even prescribe this stuff!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took Cipro for a severe UTI that did not respond to treatment with Amox-Clav. It worked quickly and had no side effects. I think the horror stories on this page are the extreme reactions and not the norm. Everybody is different. Worked great for me."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had a urinary tract infection, which unfortunately went up to my kidneys, so my MD prescribed Cipro. I already felt better after 2 days of taking it, however, I was getting terrible headaches that do not go away even if I take over-the-counter meds. That's the least of my worries, though, as long as my infection got treated."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had a UTI with some blood showing in my urine prior to taking two 500 mg Cipro tabs a day, which I took for 3-4 days. I went for a short 1/2 mile walk. Toward the end of the walk, I started limping as my right inner foot arch was becoming more and more painful to the point I couldn't walk efficiently anymore. I limped back home trying to figure out why I was having all the pain in my foot, as I didn't twist or turn it or anything like that. I stopped taking the Cipro, and the tendon pain in my foot lessened each day. Cipro removed the infection, but it left me with permanent plantar fascia tendon damage in my foot. I wouldn't recommend Cipro to anyone. The first side effect listed is causes tendon damage-ruptures. Not good people/FDA."

For Urinary Tract Infection "It was effective for my bladder infection, but the side effects are not good. After 3 days of medication, I developed severe pain in my Achilles tendon and both ankles. It continues to this day, 2 months later. I've also developed severe pain (tendonitis?) in my elbows. I never had this pain before taking Cipro."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was put on Cipro to treat a urinary tract infection. I was already on a medication that suppressed my immune system, and even though the Cipro did wonders for my UTI, the side effects were unbearable. I was directed to take 1 250 mg tab twice daily for 3 days. I was only able to get through the first 2 days. The side effects ranged from what was a mild headache the first day to a severe headache the second day, accompanied by muscle pain, joint aches, shortness of breath, and even chest palpitations on the right side. I went in to see my doc, and he said to come off them because even though they worked well for my UTI, my body was clearly unable to tolerate the side effects. Overall, I say the medicine is very effective but is also strong, so beware of side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had kidney pain. Back back. Pain that went down to my leg, and I couldn't sleep. Thought it was from maybe overdrinking, so I drank a lot of water, but 7 days later, after eating only vegetables and fruits and taking cranberry juice and antioxidants, I went to the doctor. After my first pill, the pressure was gone, and after the second pill (500 mg), the pain was gone. It works!! No side effects other than slight nausea, but that's nothing compared to one week of pain and sleepless nights."

For Kidney Infections "I have taken 5 of the 500 mg so far for a kidney infection. So far, I have had no side effects, and the pain in my back area of kidneys is gone. I am feeling better but was very worried about what I have read on side effects, but I will continue to take my dose 2 times a day for 7 days total at this point."

For Diverticulitis "I was given Cipro for mild, uncomplicated diverticulitis. Not only did it not help, but it caused me to be drug resistant, and I got the superbug, C. difficile. That nearly was the end of me. The infectious disease doctor said people should stay away from Cipro. It is causing serious issues!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have a bad UTI and was doubled over in severe pain. After the first pill of Cipro (500 mg), the pain has lessened dramatically. I'm shocked it worked so quickly! However, all antibiotics make me nauseous and fatigued, but I'll take that over severe pain."

For Bladder Infection "I had to stop taking the medicine due to getting yellowing of the skin, fevers, nightmares, severe headaches, dizziness, hot flashes, restlessness, nausea, etc. The medicine was fine until about three days into it, then I began to feel worse, and it was even hard for me to breathe. I may be one of the select few who reacted this way, and I followed everything that I was told to do exactly."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was put on a dose of 1000 mg a day. Took care of the urinary tract infection like a charm, but the side effects were not pleasant. I had heartburn and nausea after every dose, and antacids can't be taken for 2 hrs. after. I also had headaches and kept smelling burning plastic."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took Cipro a year ago for a urinary tract infection and had very little side effects. I just started taking Cipro again two days ago for another UTI, and this time it is making me miserable. I no longer have the symptoms of a UTI, but my muscles hurt, I feel tired, and I have had some diarrhea."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was initially given amoxicillin for my UTI, but after 3 days, I still had a fever, cloudy urine, and overall blahs. Went back to Dr. and was given Cipro. Wow...less than 24 hours later, fever is gone and urine is clear. I do have a headache, but I don't know if that is from Cipro or from sleeping so much. The list of side effects is a bit scary, but so far, no problems."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Symptoms I had before being put on Cipro were the usual - blood in urine, pressure on bladder, need to pee every 10 seconds even after going, stinging. After being on 500 mg twice, almost all the symptoms were gone, but the side effects were horrible. I had nausea, headache, diarrhea, drowsiness, and some chest pain. The size of the pills is relatively huge too. Not supposed to split them, but I did anyway because it got stuck in my throat and made me throw up my dinner once. I put the split pill into a 00 veggie capsule, which makes it easy to swallow, and I can't taste the bitterness."

For Bladder Infection "Unfortunately, I can no longer take this drug. This has been my go-to for years and was always able to 'fix me.' I suffer from interstitial cystitis, chronic kidney infections, and chronic UTIs. After 11 days on 500 mg 2x a day, I found myself in the ER, looks as if the bacteria I have is now resistant to this medication. Please be careful when taking this. I know how great it can work, but your body can also become rejecting of it as well. It has given me many side effects at times and other times none at all. Best of luck to my fellow sufferers."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’ve suffered from recurring UTIs all my life. I can’t take cephalosporins because of allergies or Macrobid because it caused gastric bleeding (talk about making things worse...). Cipro has worked like a charm for me every time, with no side effects. For some reason, doctors always say Cipro isn’t their first choice for UTIs, but since I’m allergic to the usual go-tos, this works for me. I’ve had some doctors provide a 3-day course, others 7-day. I would ask about dosage. Seems to me there are some doctors who overmedicate, particularly urgent care. My doc always prescribes 3 days. Urgent care has always given 7. Worth asking, is all I’m saying. As someone who got allergic to some antibiotics by taking them too much (for UTIs), I’m always nervous about taking extra antibiotics than needed, but be careful to get a doctor's opinion - don’t stop early or you can end up with bigger problems (like a recurring infection that’s now immune to that antibiotic)."

For Bladder Infection "I was given Cipro as I was leaving a hospital where I was treated for a bladder infection. I became confused and nauseous after being on it for 1.5 days and stopped taking it. A little over a week later, I could hardly walk and felt like I had electricity running down my legs. That was followed by stabbing pains in hands and feet, prickling sensations all over my body, and patches of burning sensations on my arms, legs, and back. It's now almost a year later, and I have had to deal with this horror 24/7. Only when I developed overactive bladder along with the neuropathy did I learn Cipro can cause all of my symptoms. My urologist told me this based on my medical history and notifications sent by the FDA to him and other physicians."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Oh man, thank God for this drug! I literally just realized I have a UTI, and I'm out of the country, but I have ciprofloxacin with me. I can tell I only just developed the UTI since symptoms weren't unbearable yet. Within the last 30 minutes since taking the pill, I already have some relief. I'm concerned about the possible side effects after reading these reviews, but honestly, I feel like anything is better than a UTI."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This is poison and can cause long-term muscular, joint, and nerve damage and degeneration. After one pill, I felt leg pain and tightness that felt muscular in nature. I talked to my doctor, and she didn't associate it with Cipro. After another day of taking it, the pain began migrating, heading into my joints and moving all around my body. I popped my shoulder and had excruciating pain taking my briefcase out of my car. I read online and found out about Cipro toxicity. I called my doctor and said I read about this, and given my symptoms, I thought I should stop it. They agreed. I have been off the pills for 5 days now and still have the roving pains. Mostly in legs, shooting, burning, aching, tight alternating. Hands, shoulders, knees..."

For Prostatitis "When my urologist recommended Cipro to combat my prostatitis (500 mg 2x per day for 6 weeks!), I wanted to make sure long-term use was OK. So I went online... and it looked really scary! People totally slamming the drug. But I went for it anyway. Seems to have done the job I needed it to do, and there are ZERO side effects. I mean ZERO. People talk about vomiting - I take the pill with or without food and not even a tiny bit of nausea. No fatigue, no aching or numbness, no appearance of tendon issues... nothing. Maybe it's just me and I know not everybody is the same, but it worked for me. The only reason I gave a 9 and not a 10 is because I still have a couple of days to go before I am done with the 6-week course."

For Bacterial Infection "I have had bacterial and kidney infections for about 15 years, off and on, and docs have prescribed many different antibiotics to me, but Cipro is the only thing that ever worked for me and is strong enough to kill the bacteria. Cipro is my only hope once my infection starts!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Have had serious UTI infections for almost ten years now. Cipro works great to get rid of them. But I have been prescribed it so much that I am immune to it. I have also developed a bad neuropathy in my left leg and foot that goes into my toes and hurts really bad. Started about three years ago after years of Cipro use. I read there is a lawsuit going on for Cipro and another antibiotic that I have taken for this reason, but I have not joined in the lawsuit. Use this drug with extreme caution and not for long periods of time."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I'm a 25-year-old woman, and I was prescribed Cipro for a UTI. I got 250 mg twice daily for three days. I got this yesterday, and today I've taken three pills in total. I have a horrid fear of vomiting, I become suicidal when I think I'm going to be sick. So I'm very particular and paranoid about my antibiotics. I usually respond well to antibiotics, but not this! I didn't vomit, thank goodness, but three pills in and I'm lightheaded, light sensitive, bloated like no other, abdominal pain, and kind of nauseous, itchy, and muscle pain. Not to mention my anxiety is sky-high! I'm writing this before my current panic attack makes me unable to write. Hope these side effects leave and don't stay! Very paranoid!"
