Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Day 5. My neck hurts and my back and chest hurt, and it's hard to breathe. I have insomnia and no appetite, diarrhea, and chills every time I take it. I remember the Dr. saying some people's bodies can't handle it - if you feel weak, then skip a dosage and start again. Doesn't stop the side effects. Along with all that, I have headaches and a shooting pain in my left arm from time to time. I also feel weak and even dizzy, along with a sore throat that's red in places. I'm going to go see the Dr. when I get off work, 'cause I think it could be an infection, and that scares me, so maybe I'll go, maybe I'll suck it up and finish it."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am on day 12. I took the first dose in the evening, and the next morning I woke with the strong metallic taste in my mouth. That taste is there every morning, but I can easily wash it away with a drink of water. Around days 4-6, I had very loose stools from everything I ate. Since then, it has been off and on, but I have at least one loose stool every day. My H. pylori infection caused at least two ulcers, so I was experiencing a lot of nausea before, which has gradually improved with this medication-something must be working. This medication gave me really bad yeast infections (both oral and vaginal), but gargling with hydrogen peroxide a few times cleared it up. And treated the 'other' area. This medication has been tough, but still better than the H. pylori and ulcer symptoms."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I'm on day 7 and have 7 days to go. From what I understand, after an infection like this, it's best to take it easy on your stomach and eat things that are easy to process. To the poster who said they have painful gas and bloating, I would consider drinking broth for a couple of days instead of solid foods and give your bowels and stomach a chance to really rest. Some foods can be intolerable to a body after this infection and can be too hard to deal with. Give it a few days or a week of soups and stewed fruits, and that should help. The diarrhea is likely going to continue while on these meds because they are really powerful, and all of them list that as a common side effect. Hang in there. I am halfway through and already feel fantastic if I don't count the heinous taste in my mouth, night and day. If your mouth tastes like someone dumped a load of bitter garbage into it, try some gum, don't eat sweets. Sweets are just what H. pylori like and are hard to digest. Good luck!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am from Panama. I am very pleased with this treatment. I used to suffer from diarrhea every morning after breakfast and reflux in the evening. I have been using this treatment for 4 weeks, and I feel fine now. I am using Pepto-Bismol every time I take the pills and yogurt in between, and it avoids the secondary effects. The metallic taste is present every day, but I can live with it. Sorry for my English."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I tried the treatment triple therapy for H. pylori last year and quit the second day. I decided to try again, so I started the treatment on Monday and I am feeling fine, had some diarrhea this morning. I started taking a probiotic 6 months ago, so I think that may have something to do with it, I don’t have the metallic taste in my mouth. I was afraid to try again, and reading all the horror stories made me very nervous, so I am amazed I am feeling good."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I started this treatment 2 days ago. The first day, I had abdominal cramps and nausea but no vomiting, thankfully. I also felt very dizzy and hazy, but I had a chocolate bar, which really helped. The second morning, I woke up with an extremely bitter taste in my mouth and diarrhea. The dizziness, cramps, and nausea went away, though. I also have a bigger appetite than before. Overall, the symptoms that I was feeling before starting the medications, such as cramps and nausea while hungry, abdominal pain after fried foods, and a persistent dull stomachache, are pretty much gone. I was also losing weight and could barely eat! I just hope these little bugs are dead after my treatment. (amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole under the brand name 'HP PAC')."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have the same symptoms as before, but twice as bad. My diarrhea has become explosive, and I have no control of my bowels (embarrassed I've pooped the bed trying to go to the bathroom). Stomach ache feels like someone punched me; nausea is an all-time high, and I can't hold any food down because of it. Dizzy, lethargic, and incredibly weak. Certainly not my finest hour."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was struggling with acid reflux for 2 months, so I finally got the endoscopy and biopsy done. It was H. Pylori, unfortunately. I am on day 2 of my 14 days of medication, and these medicines have given me diarrhea, bloating, gas (slight irritating pain in chest), headache, weakness, bitter taste, etc. It's really annoying to eat so many medicines, I really hope I get better after this. Does anyone have any idea for how to reduce bloating and gas when on this medication?"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Recently, I was prescribed amoxicillin pills for a throat infection, and they made me feel much better, but... the side effects are horrible. I have awful stomach pain, diarrhea, and a horrible taste in my mouth at all times! I can't get rid of the taste, even if I eat or drink, I still have this metallic taste in my mouth and feel dehydrated, even though I'm not. I would only recommend this if you were really not feeling well, but you will have to deal with awful side effects."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was very nauseous and vomited and felt like I had the flu throughout the therapy. I was warned that I might get diarrhea, but fortunately, I didn't. I got a second endoscopy done and a biopsy to see if the medicine worked, and... it was unsuccessful."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Was prescribed these drugs for 14 days alongside 4 daily tablets of Metronidazole 250 mg and Nexium instead of Lansoprazole. Diarrhea, headaches, nausea, insomnia, dizziness, tongue numbness/tingling, bad bitter tastes in my mouth. It's almost intolerable and much worse than the actual disease. I'm only on day 6. I'm sticking to it, but it is a struggle every second."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "On the fifth dose, so going into day three. I am so, so sleepy, cannot keep my eyes open. Sleeping most of the day and night, just totally exhausted, can just about drag myself out of bed for the loo. Very pale pee, and yesterday one bout of very bad diarrhea, no movement since, causing more cramping. Awful taste in my mouth, but thank God no nausea. Taking the stomach tablet one hour after antibiotics, and then probiotic after another hour. Seems to be helping. Had this treatment 11/12 years ago for Helicobacter pylori and was very sick with it. Hoping after the 7th day, when I can stop one of the antibiotics, the overwhelming tiredness goes. Pains still there, but not as severe, lots of burping and wind as always."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "In pain for the last 3 months. Abdominal pain with pins and needles. After 3 ER visits that found nothing, I went to my doctor, who sent me for an EGD. H. Pylori POSITIVE! I am currently starting day 8. I take Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, and Omeprazole twice a day. 1st day, I just felt very off. 2nd day, diarrhea about 5 times. None since, but I am constantly constipated. 2 days ago, I was able to work for a full 8 hours without paying attention to my pain! I hope this works. Insomnia is an issue. I am getting groin pain too, but I'm not sure if that's related. I get a weird muscle spasm in my right leg. Metallic taste isn't bugging me too much. I have been stuffing my face with whole grains, fruit, and probiotics like kefir and yogurt. Overall, I'd say it hasn't been horrible. I urge you to take a lot of probiotics during treatment. Also, bone broth with ginger and turmeric quickly got rid of my nausea on my 2nd day. 6 1/2 days to go. Hope everyone recovers!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "On day 7 of triple therapy amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole treatment for H. Pylori treatment. I too was/am having all the side effect symptoms. I take a Gravol in the morning, along with a probiotic. The probiotic made the diarrhea stop, and I don’t feel sick on the Gravol (ginger only). I grimace from the 'Tylenol-flavored saliva' in my mouth, so I bought candies to suck on, which totally mask the taste! It goes away after you eat, but will come back later. Also, my poop and farts smell sweet (???). It smells like chemicals."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was placed on clarithromycin to get rid of my strep. I'm extremely allergic to penicillin, so this seemed like the best option. I was warned about a metallic taste that may occur and insomnia. I did indeed get both, but loose stool (not so bad), sweating, weirdly vivid dreams (much like those you get on malaria medication), loss of appetite, fatigue, and gas (burping and the other kind). It wasn't that bad, and so far it's very helpful in clearing up my strep. I would 100% recommend this to anyone!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Possibly the worst I've ever felt in my life. I would happily have lived with the little abdominal pain I had, which caused me to get checked out, rather than this treatment. Within the first 3-4 hours of the first dose, I felt like my stomach was going to explode. Constant diarrhea for 4 days, then got better for 2 days. Now I’m on my last day of treatment and can honestly say if I still have the H. pylori after this, I will live with it, there is no way I can go through this again. Along the way, I've lost over 2 stone. Zero appetite, constantly run down, surely this isn’t normal????"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am a 28-year-old female. I have had digestive issues for about 4 years. But recently (past 2 months), it got really bad. It started with feeling sick every night after dinner. If I ate any food past 6:30, I'd be sick all night. Intense nausea, but took measures to not vomit. The week before I saw my doctor, I could barely eat anything at any time in the day without feeling horrible stomach pain and nausea. No appetite at all and on and off constipation and diarrhea. I lost a pound a month for 5 months. Got depressed about slowly involuntarily starving. Asked my doctor to test for H. pylori because multiple people in my extended family have had it. I came out positive. I was prescribed the triple therapy of lansoprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have been given 5-day triple H. pylori therapy. And been feeling sick since day 1. Had all the side effects: diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, metallic taste in mouth, just unable to function. Today is day 5, and I am glad it’s getting over. But if someone can please advise how they feel after the treatment is over?"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "This is in part a response to Chris from the July 7th comment. I am currently taking my antibiotic cocktail and panicked thinking that the antibiotics were making me sick, so launched a search landing me here. I feel absolutely lousy! I have headaches, lethargy, arthritic joints and fingers, stomach cramps/diarrhea, fog brain, and a metallic taste. From reading these comments, I'm guessing this is part of the treatment. I'm determined to see this through because I want this darn bacteria out of my body. Anyway, I hope this helps others. Looking forward to finishing the cocktail, getting on some heavily loaded probiotics, and getting back to my normal life. Definitely asking to be retested soon after because I don't want to give the little nasties a chance to proliferate. I will go at them with another round of the antibiotics. Fingers crossed and only have to do this once."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Okay, so I'm not one to normally share this, but I started these like 4 days ago, and I'll tell you this before I get into my side effects. I'm a panicky person in general, and please know that everyone is different when it comes to side effects. But I'm on day 4, and I haven't left the bed in one day. The first night on it wasn't that bad, I felt a little nauseous but didn't throw up. The next night, I started getting dizzy. I thought, well, I must be tired, so I went to bed. The third day, I was dizzy as anything, which caused my panic attacks to get way worse. Now we are on the 4th day, and I have never felt so dizzy, slight headache, random pains in my stomach, diarrhea, weak, and my panic attacks are like every hour. I'll say this: you must eat on this, although they say it doesn't matter, and drink tons, and I mean tons of water. I am pushing through because I don't want the constant pain in my stomach to be there anymore. I do hope others are better than me."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Before I started my triple antibiotics, I read a lot of reviews of pretty bad side effects - honestly, I got really nervous, but I usually don’t get side effects. Within 2 hours of taking my very dose, I felt so nauseous and weak, and I also had a headache. Then the runs started, but that was just day 1. Day 2, the runs stopped, but everything else continued, and I vomit acid almost every night and morning, it’s always at least 4 hours after my dose. At this point, I’m still striving through and just ignoring my side effects since they are “normal.” It’s day 7, and I’m up at 3 a.m. crying because I’m also experiencing some sort of panic attacks before I vomit. I read this has something to do with acid touching your heart or something like that? I’ve never experienced panic attacks before this. I thought I would have to call 911 after tonight, but thankfully after vomiting, I feel better temporarily. I hope you all feel better, xo."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Severe bloating and nausea led me to the doctor, and a breath test confirmed H. pylori. First treatment: amoxicillin, levofloxacin, pantoprazole for 14 days (test after 6 weeks came back positive again). Second treatment: amoxicillin, clarithromycin, omeprazole for 14 days (will test in 6 weeks). Side effects: nausea, diarrhea, bloating, tiredness, metallic bitter taste. These were bad until day 10, and it got better from there. There are no dietary requirements for treatment. Don't feel like you have to eat a certain way to eradicate the bacteria. Also, make sure to retest 6 weeks after treatment. Hang in there, everyone!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I completed 2 weeks of the prescribed antibiotics, etc. I was sick most of the time. I developed a terrible yeast infection, an anal infection, and diarrhea, as well as a rash over most of my body that itched. I had to see a gyno, as well as a dermatologist after treatment, and my GP, since I contracted cellulitis in my right arm as well. I was put on antibiotics for that, which worked. All in all, it was a terrible experience, but I took every one of those 164 pills over a 2-week period. Now waiting to see if I got rid of H. pylori. Who knows? Don't kid yourself, this treatment is definitely not a walk in the park. I would actually like to speak to the gastro who came up with this, hopefully, he had to take it too."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "It all started when I started having stomach pains and burps every time I eat/drink. I have never been sick like this my entire life, I am in my twenties, in good shape and eat somewhat healthy. I went to the doctor and my stool test result was borderline, but my symptoms made it good enough for an H. pylori. I have been put on a 14-day plan. It’s the first time I take antibiotics. I am on day 5. It’s been bad: lack of appetite, dizziness, nausea, weakness, diarrhea, inability to sleep at night. It came to the point I went to the ER one morning due to feeling so bad that I couldn’t take the morning dose. Since I am a person that likes to read, I immediately started investigating the bacteria and read so much about it. That was a bad decision as it only brought me more fear than occupation. For anyone that goes through this, hang on and don’t give up the medication once you started it as the bacteria will become immune to the treatment."
