For Pain "I was given the Tylenol w/ Codeine #4 (300/60 mg) tabs to use as an extra pain medication for the pain I had in my ankle from the screws about 3 months after my surgery. The Tylenol #4 didn't even make a dent in the pain relief. And in fact, 600 mg of Advil helped far more effectively than the Tylenol #4."

For Pain "I suffer from chronic hip pain for several years now and have been prescribed a variety of narcotics to manage my pain. I must say that Tylenol #3 (2 pills every 4-6 hours as needed) provides enough relief to get me through the bad days and not feel 'doped up' so I can still function at work."

For Pain "It should be noted I've been on pain medications for 21 years, so you can imagine I've tried it all. I use Tylenol #4 for breakthrough pain, and for me, it works very well, from an 8/10 to a 3-5/10 but bearable. We each have different metabolisms, that being said, and as a result, medicine doesn't do the same thing for everyone. Some of you will do well with Percocet or Vicodin, they don't work well for me, but T4s do. Go figure..... So when you go to a doctor or go to the dentist, they will take your opinion on this matter into consideration. Only we know what works for us. I saw so many reviews for T3s or T4s that said it didn't work for them, it probably did to a minimal extent. But again, you know your body and what pain medications work for you, especially those that work for you. I wish you all good luck in the future, but for me, T4s work wonders for me."

For Pain "I use several narcotics for the daily chronic pain I suffer from. Also, I have glaucoma and uveitis, which is an eye disease I also suffer from. When I run out of my Vicodin, I use Tylenol 3 until I get my script filled. I think it works great. Love my Tylenol 3. With a daughter with special needs, I need my pain controlled."

For Pain "I have had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed 2 days ago. To deal with the pain after my numbing injections wore off, I was prescribed Tylenol 3. When I got home, the pain from the operation was already starting to kick in, so I took one at 5 pm (which was when I got home) in hope of relieving my pain before trying to get to bed. I sat there in pain for the next 12 hrs, taking another pill every 4 hrs, and not a single bit of pain relief or drowsiness came to my aid."

For Pain "Had a secondary molar extracted and was prescribed Tylenol 3 for pain. It has not alleviated the pain at all. I have a fairly reasonable pain threshold (had major abdominal surgery 1 year ago and didn't require this much pain management). Revisited the dentist today for pain (concern with possible infection or dry socket). All is healing well, so I don't understand why the entire side of my face hurts. Don't recommend T3 for dental pain management. It's making me drowsy, but that's it. I've had to take 1 every 4 hours, and the last dose I doubled up and took 2. Still didn't help. I don't think it's made any difference at all :("

For Pain "I was given this in the hospital when the pulmonary embolism had shifted very painfully. Helped get me from a pain level of 6 or 7 down to a reasonable 1 or 2. Had been given Norco and even morphine previously, but they were so strong I slept over 18 hours a day. Would definitely recommend Tylenol with codeine to someone in moderate pain."

For Pain "Tylenol 3 did not work for me. I was suffering from unbearable pain from a tooth infection that kept me up all night. After 30 mins, the pain did not go away. After 1 hour, still no relief. I wouldn't recommend this medicine to anyone."

For Pain "I have multiple back issues along with shoulders they said need to be replaced and artificial knees. 69+ years old. They used to have me on oxy and even morphine for a while. I've been with a pain clinic almost 10 years, then boom! I am told you now have to be on Tylenol 3. What a joke. After months of playing their game, I finally was able to convince them to give me a stronger med. I really thought they would go back to doing hydrocodone, I was bumped to Tylenol 4. I am still in so much pain, things have gotten much worse through the years, and instead of staying steady with a strong narcotic, I get treated like a drug-seeking addict. I wouldn't even know how to get ahold of any kind of street drug. I do not associate with those people. I was born in the '50s, for gosh sake."

For Pain "I had two root canals done two days ago. I was prescribed ibuprofen 800 for pain and an antibiotic. I am in so much pain from one of the teeth. My whole mouth, jaw, and ear hurt. I’m in agony. I called for a better painkiller and got Tylenol 3 with codeine. It’s not working at all. It’s Sunday, so I have to wait until tomorrow. I thought Tylenol 3 would help, but it’s not."

For Osteoarthritis "Have been on these pain meds for 25 years, name brand McNeil. Take one with every meal and at bedtime. When I moved from California to Georgia, they started me on the generic ones. They do not help with the pain I suffer every day, and it does a number on upsetting my stomach and causing breakthrough migraines that I suffer from due to the lesion to my right temporal lobe. I pray to God that physicians will stop pushing generics as good as name-brand ones when they are not."

For Osteoarthritis "I have had two hip replacements, one being 13 years ago, the other 7. Excruciating pain occurs in my SI every now and then, of course, when one overdoes it. T3's are the most reliable relief, two extra strength Tylenols don't even touch the discomfort and pain intensity. Whereas, with one T3, I can actually perform daily tasks. I do not usually use it for more than two days in a row, and usually many months apart. I have positive results, and they work so well."

For Cough "I had a sudden violent cough that has lasted over a month. I have seen 5 different doctors, 3 sets of chest x-rays, a CT scan, 3 rounds of antibiotics, 4 different cough medicines, a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), and 2 trips to the ER, one was from coughing so hard I popped a rib out of place. I also have an appointment with a specialist. So far, no one has been able to tell me what is causing the cough, hopefully, the specialist will be able to come up with an answer. The ONLY thing that would give me any relief from the cough was Tylenol 3 with codeine. I have to take it every 4-5 hours, and in my line of work, I am not allowed to work taking 120-150 mg of codeine, so I am currently on medical leave until I can see the specialist."

For Pain "I have chronic lower back pain with scoliosis and some lumbar area degenerative disease. Tylenol 3 is the only drug that my Dr.s will prescribe. The problem is it keeps me awake all night. I consequently use it sparingly, and I live in pain. I had an epidural today and pray for some relief when the meds kick in."

For Pain "Although I do agree with everyone that these Tylenol-anything are junk for pain (especially if you’ve been on more effective pain relievers prior for a while), I just wanted to point out to all who are saying they’re flooding your liver with acetaminophen now that the DEA caused you to switch from other ones... Norco and T4s have all the same amount of Tylenol (aka acetaminophen or paracetamol depending on where you’re from). Just wanted to mention that, as well as that generic brands of all these have the exact same narcotics in them as the name brands, so I’m not sure why people think they’re less effective. Maybe it’s the fillers? Who knows. Anyway, yeah, I agree that the DEA has screwed everyone in the USA. Something similar is happening here in Canada, and it sucks for pain patients here so bad too! :("

For Pain "Have an infected tooth, was prescribed 600 mg ibuprofen, alternating with Tylenol every 6 hrs (3 pm take one type, 6 pm take the other, sort of thing) and T3s with codeine for overnight to help me sleep. Took 1 T3 at 1 pm and I'm wide awake at 2 am in agony from the pain and waiting for my next ibuprofen to kick in. T3s are crap!!!"

For Pain "I would say by itself this doesn't work very well, but if you take it with an anti-inflammatory like Advil or something, it works better. I took this for a severe ear infection, and while it didn't totally make the pain go away, it made it more tolerable."

For Pain "Have suffered with fibro and arthritis for years. Nothing has helped, including Lyrica, Cymbalta, Celebrex, Nambutome. I was prescribed Tylenol 3 in late September. It's now December, and just one Tylenol 3 a day has helped remarkably and eliminates Nambutome twice a day plus Xanax to help me sleep. Finally, something that helps, and my PA is mortified to continue prescribing!!!"

For Pain "I have been having severe pain due to an infection in my cheek from my wisdom teeth. I went to the emergency room because it was on a weekend that I experienced this pain and was prescribed T3s and Amoxicillin for the infection. After taking 2 T3s and waiting an hour, the pain still seems to be throbbing. I don't know if it works for different people or what, but I am for sure disappointed and frustrated."

For Pain "My wisdom tooth got infected (pericoronitis), and the left side of my face is currently throbbing. I was prescribed penicillin along with ibuprofen 600 mg. The penicillin takes a few days to kick in, and ibuprofen does absolutely nothing. I called the doc back, and they prescribed Tylenol #3. At first, I was excited to relieve my pain, but after about 2 hours into my medication, I still felt no relief. I hate pills and generally don't take anything on a regular basis (2 Advil for headaches when they rarely occur), so I don't have a tolerance for medicine. Tylenol #3 did absolutely nothing for me. Might as well have not taken anything at all. Garbage!"

For Pain "I am in severe pain. I believe I need 2 root canals. I went to the ER, and my doctor prescribed Tylenol 3. The dosage is 1 every 4 hours. Please believe me when I say the pain has not subsided AT ALL. I do not even feel sleepy. Even that would be some relief. I contacted the hospital about this, and I have to go back to the ER to be re-evaluated and pay another 800. The earliest I can be seen by my dentist is in another 14 days."

For Pain "Works great for my pain due to a torn Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, with the current paranoia surrounding pain medications, good luck getting Tylenol #3. There are no doctors who will even write you a script for it anymore and will instead tell you to get OTC Advil or Tylenol."

For Pain "Went to the ER for fever and strep throat. My back was hurting very badly as well. I was prescribed a few things, but Tylenol 3 for pain. It makes me very groggy and sleepy, and I like that because I'd rather sleep the day away than sit up. Makes me kind of dizzy, but not too bad. Works well for pain and sleep."

For Pain "I just had a tooth extraction #13, was prescribed Tylenol 3, and it barely worked. I've taken two within 6 hrs, and nothing has happened. Instead, I feel more pain, and it's causing me a severe headache. Will go back to my oral surgeon to see if I can get something stronger. What a waste!!!"
