For Major Depressive Disorder "I took Pristiq for 6 years for depression, PTSD, and anxiety but wasn't getting results anymore. My doctor switched me to Fetzima, but I had an allergic reaction. Ultimately, I ended up on Brintellix. I started on 5 mg and am currently on 10 mg. Although the medicine works, the gastrointestinal side effects are almost intolerable. I tried bumping up to 20 mg and would vomit within an hour. The current 10 mg dose causes nausea, increased acid reflux, constipation, gas, and bloating. Considering switching."

"Do not take this medicine. I took 10 mg for one year, and 20 mg for another year. After many attempts to wean off of it, I am finally free of this med. For me, I was so sick to my stomach every morning when I took it. I couldn't eat, sometimes I would throw up if I tried. It had me crippled over sometimes. When trying to wean off of it, my depression hit rock bottom. Dark thoughts slammed my brain, but I was so depressed, I had no willpower to do anything. At one point, I had to be hospitalized because of my thoughts. I spent $300-$400 every single month to take this medication."

For Depression "I've noticed that emotionally I seemed to be feeling much better not long after starting it. But at about a month and a half out, I'm not sure if the side effects are worth it. I really intense nausea that comes on quickly after taking it is making me miserable. Today, I made the big mistake of taking it on a full stomach after lunch. Ended up vomiting my guts out within about 20 minutes, and my stomach is still a little shaky now, 6 hours later."

For Depression "I'm taking 300 mg Bupropion and still extremely depressed. The psychiatrist gave me a month of 5 mg samples of Trintellix to supplement the Bupropion. I have been taking it for 5 days now and have severe nausea and vomiting along with constipation. Nausea and vomiting occur 20 min to 1/2 hour after taking, so the drug isn't absorbed into my system to have an effect on my depression. I am on other medications that I was taking at the same time as the Trintellix. I've decided to take the Trintellix with food in the morning and all other meds at night due to the vomiting so that the other drugs can be effective. I can deal with nausea and constipation, but not vomiting. I will continue taking it and hope the vomiting stops. Fingers crossed."

For Major Depressive Disorder "The sickest six weeks of my life. Constant nausea accompanied by intermittent vomiting, headaches, and flu-like symptoms. I would have had to die to feel better. An emotional wreck, severe bouts of crying, feelings of utter despondency and hopelessness that were not present before taking. I am amazed that this drug made it through the FDA with such high incidences of nausea. Absolutely horrible experience."

For Depression "Why is the Trintellix commercial featuring all females? Do men not get depression? This drug made me throw up if I didn’t take it and go right to bed. I was nauseous all day, and I took it for months. Mood was okay."

"Tried this drug for around 2 1/2 months total for MDD, GAD, and PD. 5 mg was a little tick in motivation and mood, 10 mg was overstimulating, and 15 mg was off the charts. I had to take propranolol and Xanax almost every day just to get out of bed after starting 10 mg. This drug can work for some to treat anxiety, but it has been much too stimulating for me, even though my depression was gone. My mood was fantastic, but I had crippling and debilitating anxiety coming from it that was purely physical and not coming from my actual disorder. For some, it can even be sedating. I definitely would not use this drug as a first line for anxiety issues (it’s used off-label), but rather for lack of motivation, concentration, and poor mood. I need something that can do the two at once. Side note: This drug also has a big risk of causing nausea and vomiting. That was solved after cutting my doses in half 2x a day, and I only had dry heaving when first taking it, and it did go away."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I started at 5 mg with the understanding I would increase to 10 mg after 7 days. By day 4, the nausea was deepening rather than going away as the doctor thought. At day 6, I was constantly vomiting, even to the point of dry heaves. My face and upper arms were bright red, with areas of broken capillaries. While easy to take (small pill form), the side effects were bad for me. It was difficult to get back to the doctor, and nausea continued whether with or without food. All in all, a very uncomfortable experience."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Just took my first dose of 5 mg of Brintellix - have been on every possible medication, including Wellbutrin for 15 years, Seroquel for 9 years, and Lexapro for 2 years, just weaned off Lexapro. I feel quite odd, butterflies in my stomach and brain fog - my daughter has been on Brintellix for 2 months and is still vomiting - if this continues, another failed med."

For Depression "Initially, this medicine, Trintellix, was sorta working for me, or my doctor was convincing me it was, but then my anxiety returned, and every morning I found myself incredibly nauseous and puking, which made me feel awful for the rest of the day. I typically took 20 mg after dinner to ease the nausea but always ended up sick when I woke up in the morning. It’s also expensive. Not worth it, in my opinion."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I took this drug for 4 weeks. I had failed a four-week trial of Lexapro, which I was placed on after 12 years on Effexor, a drug that totally stopped working for me about a year ago. I was queasy for the entire time I was on Trintellix. I threw up several times. I received no discernible benefit from this medication and stopped taking it abruptly. That may not be the wisest course, and I don’t necessarily recommend it. But I became fed up with the queasiness. Initially, I felt a lot better, and my energy returned. Now, ten days out, I have had a few spells of flu-like symptoms. I feel that I received no therapeutic benefit from this drug."

For Depression "The 1st week on Trintellix was fine, no problems. The next two weeks I had vomiting and severe diarrhea. I went off the med after 3 weeks. It's been 3 weeks since I discontinued Trintellix and I still have liquid stools. I see the doc in 4 days."

For Depression "I tried Trintellix because SSRIs didn't help, and I had too many side effects from Wellbutrin. Trintellix helped a little; I felt a little better than I did on Zoloft, but for the most part, it turned me into a couch potato. I could spend entire days laying on the couch, half paying attention to the TV. I had no motivation, and I was still depressed, so I quit after a few months. I tapered slowly, but the withdrawals sucked worse than any other med I've quit before. I had the shakes, vomiting, and uncontrollable urges to move around, so I pretty much writhed around in bed and vomited into a bag for days. Not worth it for me."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I started Trintellix for treatment-resistant depression (MDD) exactly one week ago today. I took 5 mg for 6 days and titrated to 10 mg today. I have vomited every single day, various times throughout the day. No gradual buildup of nausea, just vomiting, particularly after I smoke a cigarette. Needless to say, I’m rarely smoking."

For Major Depressive Disorder "This has been the worst medication of my life. In September, I started Zoloft for anxiety and depression and started becoming much more depressed than before, therefore, my doctor had me try an SNRI instead because I have been on three other SSRIs. Within 20-30 minutes of taking 5 mg of Trintellix, I had stomach pain and GI discomfort. For over four hours, I experienced horrible pain, was extremely nauseous and throwing up/dry heaving, and experienced horrible diarrhea. The side effects were so horrendous I lasted only a week on the medicine, hoping the symptoms would lessen, but after a week, I couldn’t endure any more time suffering from the side effects."
