"I have major depressive disorder and have always had trouble sleeping. Trazodone is great at making you fall asleep but hit or miss when it comes to staying asleep. Half the time I’ll only get 3-4 hours and can’t fall back asleep (I take 75 mg). I feel fine in the morning in terms of grogginess. People have complained about nightmares, but I’ve only had nightmares for 5 years straight, so I can’t comment on trazodone's contribution to that. It seems to vary from person to person quite a bit (effectiveness/side effects), so you’d have to try it to really know. Don’t make decisions off these comments."

"On 50 mg of trazodone for a number of years. Now, although this medication helps me sleep well, I have to admit it causes me severe night sweats where I’m soaked straight through. I actually have to change to a dry top. Of course, when I sweat like this, I get very cold and chilled!"

"I was taking trazodone for 8 years for insomnia. After a few years, it became ineffective. I kept taking it because I can't take any other sleeping pills. I didn't know trazodone is also an antidepressant. I can't take what I call regular antidepressants. I stopped trazodone 9 months ago. I have been having headaches, brain fog, and anxiety for 9 months now. It's called discontinuation syndrome. I call it a living nightmare. I am worried it will never go away."

"I was prescribed this as an alternative to Ambien when my new doctor refused to prescribe me what I was used to. After a single dose, BAM! Triggered the worst migraine of my life and, even worse, priapism. I didn't even know that was possible, but I guess it's one of those more rare side effects. USE WITH CAUTION."

"This medication causes me to have very vivid and disconcerting dreams that are disorienting and, at times, downright disturbing. I take a 100 mg dose one time a day and have started Prazosin for the dreams. If this doesn't work, it's back to the drawing board."

"Hate this medication. I have been on Ambien in the past, but where I'm from, Nebraska, it is not considered a controlled substance, but in Louisiana, I guess it is. I slept great on Ambien. I've been put on 100 mg of trazodone, it does nothing for me. I think I slept a total of 3 hours last night. That and the fact I've come off pain pills for my back because my new 'dr' doesn't believe in prescribing narcotics. I'm constantly in pain, and now that I moved here and spent over a week in the hospital, I've also been on dr. release from work to find out I got terminated from my new job. Plus, now I guess I have congenital heart failure and lung disease. It definitely hasn't been a good experience here overall, though I love the area, as do my kids. But if I don't find a job quickly, who knows what will happen."

"Trazodone saved my life. I don’t have the urge to drink alcohol. I sleep far better. My depression is not as bad. Alcohol is pure evil. Thank you, trazodone."
