"I have been taking trazodone for 2 days now, and it works well for my anxiety and insomnia, but when it's about 9 pm (when I take it again), I feel like my heart is pounding, and it’s making me paranoid. I think it’s the pill wearing off, but it still feels awful."

"I had been using lorazepam "as needed" to deal with early morning anxiety/insomnia for about 3 years but worried about tolerance, so I wanted to try trazodone, hoping also for help with erections (I’m 68). First night, 25 mg did not help with insomnia (in fact, made it worse) and caused brief nausea, but ZERO morning anxiety and 2 good erections. The next night, insomnia returned to baseline, no nausea or other side effects, and no anxiety, but no more erections. Continued like this for 5 more nights. Then I tried 50 mg for 3 nights. The first night, insomnia was worse but otherwise the same effects. The next 2 nights, I saw next day anxiety return, plus dry mouth, lightheadedness, weakness, and incoordination. Thinking of bailing."

"50 mgs trazodone for 12 nights. Mirtazapine impacted liver readings. Positive: kick-start weight loss, as weight loss stalled. Lost 2.5 kgs in 12 days. Increased energy. Started to impact exercise as no sleep. Negative: pins/needles in hands; no sleep 1st night - racing heart; severe pain in liver area; headaches; severe diarrhea; itchy palms/skin; manic elation; sweating. Doc said wean myself off; back to Mirtazapine: Day 1. Took 1/2 trazodone/1/2 mirtazapine. Trouble getting to sleep. Still diarrhea, reducing. Day 2. 1/4 trazodone/1/2 mirtazapine. To sleep almost immediately. Block of 5 hours; got up to toilet, back to bed, fell back to sleep - not happened for 2 weeks! Slept through till 7:30, felt groggy in morning. 50 mins nap PM. Day 2. No trazodone just 1/4 mirtazapine. Some discomfort in liver area. Day 5. On mirtazapine fully. Sleep improving: 3-5 hours to 5-7 hours. No discomfort in liver area. Day 6. Felt groggy in morning for a couple of days. Sleep now regularly more than 8 hours."

"I took this yesterday afternoon for extreme anxiety and restlessness. After 20 minutes, it kicked in and I felt extremely irritable and annoyed, so sleepy I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I had this constant feeling of needing to move, but I was freaking EXHAUSTED at the same time! I took 9 naps yesterday evening, including sleep, and I also dozed off while trying to make coffee. It’s been 13 hours, and I still feel insanely tired. I won’t take trazodone ever AGAIN!!! 2/10 for calming my anxiety down somewhat."

"I was prescribed 100 mg Trazodone for anxiety on March 21. Don't like taking drugs, only took half the dose. I have not been right since and am desperately trying to taper off. Three weeks after starting, I developed tinnitus, which is totally debilitating. I have brain fog, feel awful, and my quality of life is near zero. Had numerous blood tests to rule out any other illness. All came back negative. The sooner I get off this awful drug, the better. Hope I can recover my old self!"

"Trazodone is horrific. It is not effective at all toward depression and anxiety, and in my experience was even questionable in its help toward sleep/insomnia. If anything, it made my depression and low moods a lot worse, and my anxiety tripled tenfold and got out of control. For the three long weeks I was on it, I constantly felt spaced out, like I was never really present and was living on a different planet. That in itself is a really horrible side effect. It was no use to me. I've been switched to mirtazapine, and the 6 days I've been off it have been far more positive than the weeks I tried to stick it out with trazodone. For me, it didn't work as an antidepressant, and the side effects are too long and unmanageable. You might find it better, but my advice would be to steer clear."

"I have been taking 50 mg Trazodone for 5 weeks now for anxiety. It does make me fall asleep rather suddenly, however, the sleep is not restful. Initially, I thought it was because I had just started taking it, however, it has not improved. About 3 to 4 weeks in, I started having a tight, painful jaw. (I have experienced the same with Nuzak.) I also wake up with a mild headache, but this does ease in about an hour later. I don't feel it has helped with my anxiety. It seems to have made me feel a bit depressed and moody. I pushed through for a few weeks, but the side effects have not even eased, and there is not even slight improvement with anxiety. I have decided to stop taking it and hopefully will not have bad withdrawal symptoms, seeing it was a lower dosage."

"Last night I took my first trazodone prescribed by my doctor to take 'as needed.' I use a general sleep aid and sometimes supplement with L-Theanine, which reduces anxiety. My prescription is 50 mg, so I cut it in half just to be sure I didn't overload. An hour later it started to kick in, then things went to bad: 1. Unable to walk or lift anything, unable to undress since hands and limbs wouldn't work, too dizzy, falling; 2. Immediately broke out into HUGE sweat; heart was kicking; 3. THEN INTENSE PAIN up back, chest, arms, and legs; 4. Sudden VERY intense nausea and stomach pain, spit filled my mouth so I had to hover over the toilet bowl. Literally crawled to my bed but didn't DARE lay flat; had to stay seated and wait everything out until it finally eased. Slept like I normally do, no change in that. I will NOT be using this again. Terrified, I'd have to call an ambulance."

"Over the last 2 years, anxiety, panic attacks, stress levels, and insomnia have creeped in with a vengeance. At first, the doctor put me on mirtazapine, which didn't work for me at all-awful side effects, it made me really restless, snappy, and totally lowered my mood more than it already was before starting the medication. The doctor then put me on 50 mg trazodone, which so far I have only been using for 2 weeks. So far for me personally, it hasn't worked any sort of wonders. The only way I can describe it is that I don't feel so much all over the place, if that makes sense, and unfortunately, it hasn't helped with my sleep at all. But I'm only on my second week in, hopefully, after another few weeks, it might start to balance itself out."

"Unfortunately, I had to experience trazodone in my life due to stress and anxiety. Can't fault or praise it. From my 3 months' experience, taking 1 dose of 50 mg at bedtime, I can concur the following: A) Helped me sleep 8 hours straight, without waking up, but I also sleep the same after stopping it. It seems it created a sleep pattern for me, which I needed badly. B) It increased my health anxiety due to often palpitations and irregular breathing. C) Started getting dizzy and being restless towards the end of my 3rd month taking it. Decided to stop taking it after completing 3 months. I've lowered the dose to 25 mg for 1 week and stopped completely after. Overall experience...never again on pills for anxiety. Rather dealing with it on my own."

"I have bad anxiety and insomnia. My doctor prescribed trazodone, and the first few nights it did help, however, I soon found out that I am allergic to this medication and can no longer take it. I would wake up with itchy and watery eyes, a sore throat, and coughing. (It wasn't COVID, because when I stopped taking it for two nights, I was fine, then when I started taking it again, that was confirmation I was allergic to it.)"

"I tried this for a couple of days. I have idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF - a lung disease). It caused my mucus to double. So I had to stop til they figure out what to do. I was using trazodone for anxiety and to sleep. It says in the side effects increased mucus could happen. Anyone else experience this?"

"They took me off Valium after taking it for anxieties from a severe traumatic brain injury while in the military. Now with their new rules, they put me on trazodone for anxiety, and wow, it's the worst thing a person can take. Read about all the dangers and the side effects from SSRIs, they are killing American vets especially. Please, if you read this, don't ever take an SSRI. I have done a lot of reading and found that antidepressants are horrible for a person. Even the scientists have said they made a mistake, and they are not able to test the serotonin in a person's brain. So, basically, you are a guinea pig. They don't work and your addiction means no more sex!!! How can the drug companies make such a pill to help people when they're the worst drug a person can take."
