Tranexamic acid for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "I am in my mid-40s and had been dealing with heavy periods for the last 10 years. I have had a hysteroscopy (not hysterectomy), tried every kind of birth control, and most recently, endometrial ablation, and nothing had worked. I was not willing to get a hysterectomy without trying all my other alternatives. I found Lysteda on the internet and asked my doctor to let me try this. Lysteda has been a lifesaver for me! I gave it a 9 out of 10, though, because I have had serious dizzy spells and I am attributing this to the medication. But it seems to be the only side effect I have."

For Menstrual Disorders "I had a myomectomy about 3 years ago for fibroids. Less than a year later, in 2017, the same doctor says the fibroids came back, which means I had a pointless surgery. The doctor suggested removing my uterus at the age of 38 with no kids and apparently no future to have kids because the surgery was to enhance my chances of having kids. The doctor then suggested tranexamic acid 650 mg, 2 pills 3 times a day. The drug was working at first-lighter and shorter cycles. I was able to enjoy life during my cycles for the last 3 months (I guess there is a new manufacturer) manufacturing the drug, and now it is no longer working. Very heavy and more painful cycles. Huge blood clots and a lot more blood in the toilet, making me weak and dizzy due to the increased blood loss. I'm not sure why anyone would change the medication, but it was working great at first and now it is not. I sure hate it. My only other option is a hysterectomy while still in my late 30s. Very disappointing and disheartening."

For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "I took it for three days before the left side of my face went numb, and my coordination/depth perception became screwy. I went to the ER, where they diagnosed a 'Partial' Bell's Palsy. There were so many doctors (including neurologists) talking about my case because my symptoms didn't fit into any diagnosis. I think that this side effect should be better publicized! Now I want to know if this paralysis is ever going to resolve. Has anyone out there experienced this?"

For Menstrual Disorders "I was prescribed this medicine by my OBGYN for heavy menstrual cycles. I was hesitant to take it due to how many you had to take (2 pills 3 times a day). I wouldn't recommend this medicine to anyone. My body has not been the same since. It did lighten my flow, however, I went to the ER multiple times. I have continued heart palpitations, body aches, chest pain, SOB, horrible headaches, body shivers, numbness in limbs, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea. This medicine has totally messed me up. I stopped over 2 months ago, and the symptoms still haven't stopped."

For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "Just turned 40. Periods have been extremely heavy with clots galore and horrible cramps since high school. I've tried four different types of birth control pills, tried the depo shot, and tried Mirena; nothing worked. I feel like when studies say 'nine out of ten people' that I'm always the one person it didn't work for, whatever 'it' may be. Doc said to try tranexamic acid first, and if it doesn't work, to consider an ablation before considering a hysterectomy. I'll try to rate this on a pros and cons scale. PROS: My period got slightly less heavy midway through the second day, but not light by any means. CONS: extreme dizziness, numbness in face and hands, severe sharp pains in my abdomen. Not willing to do this monthly. Guess ablation's next. :("

Tranexamic acid for Menstrual Disorders "After my first two doses of Lysteda, I got very sick to my stomach, horrible abdominal pain, vomiting, and a very bad headache. I also feel very stiff in my joints, and I'm a very active person, so that is not common for me because I stretch regularly. Neck pain, elbow, and knee pain. I'm also very lightheaded and dizzy. I only took 4 total doses, and I have been so sick for two days, and my bleeding did not reduce, nor did the cramps, like my doctor said they would. I ended up dealing with my typical horrible period pains/frustrations, as well as new side effects and pain from being so sick. I missed two days of work. I know this drug works well for a lot of people, but absolutely not for me."

Tranexamic acid for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "I have horrible periods. Horrible meaning changing a super plus tampon every one to two hours with clots 7-10 days long. This includes during the night as well. Messing up clothes and sheets on my bed. My doctor recommended Lysteda before an endometrial ablation. Two pills three times a day for five days. Started on my third day. My first week, what a joke. Reduced my period maybe 30-40? If that. Gave me headaches and caused dizziness. Thanks for nothing. I'll be having a biopsy to have an ablation instead."

For Bleeding Disorder "I was so worried because I had my heavy periods 29 days long and having clots and uterine lining are also coming with blood, so my doctor prescribed me tranexamic acid tab 500 mg, two tablets, three times a day. Means I started taking 6 tablets per day, then the third day, no bleeding at all. I'm so happy because I'm too tired to wear pads every time. Also, only 1 side effect that I'm feeling a little bit dizzy. Not too much. Thanks, my doctor. I'm from Canada."

For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "What a game changer! Day 2 and 3 used to have me changing a super plus tampon every hour, sometimes less. It was a nightmare because I am a teacher, and you can't just leave the class to scoot to the bathroom. I experienced dizziness and weakness from the loss of blood, and my iron level was at 9. After starting tranexamic acid (normal schedule of 2 pills, 3x per day), I can go 2 to 4 hours between changing a super plus tampon on my heaviest days. I feel so much better (shakiness and dizziness are gone), and I am much more comfortable leaving the house without fear of being away from a bathroom. No side effects for me."

For Menstrual Disorders "The first time I used this medicine as instructed - 2 pills 3x daily. I was instructed to use it for 5 days, but I did not reach day 5 because of the side effects. This time around, I only used 2 pills on Days 1 & 2, and I definitely have experienced more side effects than I expected - dizziness and nausea on day 1 and then diarrhea on day 2. However, it is worth it in my opinion. I did Pilates today without an issue... I could never do that with my heavy period (fibroid related)!!! Now I can pop a pill and go out to dinner an hour later without having to worry about wearing white. Huge relief."

For Bleeding Disorder "I went to my doctor with excessive blood loss that started lasting up to 8 days with the loss of massive clots. I was told due to having issues for years that my husband and I would never naturally have children. I have had CIN3, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and now fibroids. My periods were coming on time every 4 weeks, it was just the flow that was all different and extreme. I had the Mirena implant put in, and now I bleed for 12 days every 2 weeks and am more irritable and moody than ever. The doctor put me on tranexamic acid tablets and Ponstan, and now I am experiencing dizziness, confusion, and a feeling like I'm walking on air. Totally wrong response we were all looking for. This was meant to stop me from bleeding and not have all the issues I have right now."

For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "I am on day 4 and it’s been a major relief! The first 24 hours I thought it wasn’t going to work. I had a horrible pounding headache, was very sleepy all day and felt dizzy and nauseated. However, that went away and on day 2 I began seeing major differences. I only have one more day left to take it, so just hoping after the 5th day it doesn’t come rushing back because it’s been a game changer. I don’t dread my periods anymore."

Tranexamic acid for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding "I am a 49-year-old female that has been suffering for 2 years with painful, heavy periods due to fibroids. For the first 2 days, I always had to double up with a tampon and a pad. My gyn dr. prescribed me Lysteda, also known as Tranexamic Acid. The dosage is 2 tablets, 3 times a day, for 5 days. It started working immediately, cutting the blood flow by 50-80%. I no longer had to double up on protection, and I can now sleep through the night. I still had some cramping on the 2nd day, but OTC pain relief helped with that. Side effects: 1 hour after taking the pills, I felt light-headed/slightly dizzy; I experienced minor headaches (nothing unmanageable). I found the pills to be too large to swallow, so I had to cut them in half or thirds. Overall, I love this medication, it has given me my life back."
