"I was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis after many years of untreated back pain (the pain would come and go over last 30 years). I was afraid to take Tramadol 50 mg when I read all the reviews and side effects. One thing I made my self understand is that everybody different. After taking Tylenol for Arthritis, 650 mg, reg Tylenol 100 mg, to no avail. I opted for the Tramadol and pain was reduced (not eliminated) good enough for me to do normal functions. I have not tried walking long distance or standing long time yet. My Neuro Dr. prescribed physical therapy and Gabapentin( I am really afraid of Gabapentin's side effects) so I will stay with Tramadol and Physical Therapy for now."

"White oblong marked 377 I found completely ineffective for relief of my back pain where the white oval marked ouyl 101 was very effective in managing my pain I don't understand how they can call it the same drug I'm no expert here but I would think the potential for catastrophic results exists in such situations"

"Tramadol just doesn’t work period. I started low and worked my way up to what the dr said what the highest allowed dosage and it didn’t do anything for my back pain. In fact I felt it made things worse. My stomach hurt and I felt shaky. I don’t understand the move towards this useless medication at all. It just doesn’t work."

"I have lower back pain due to spondylosisthesis. (Disk between LV4 and LV5 moving forward and putting pressure on nerves in spinal column) Tramadol works ike a narcotic, it can cause extreme nausea if never used before. Unfortunately, a tolerance develops very fast; at first, 100mg would kill my back pain completely. But over two years time, i need about 300 to 400 mg twice a day, with an NSAID booster. The injections my doctor gives me in my knees and spine are very effective in restoring lost flexibility, but still Tramadol cocktail for pain. I'm 66 years old and also have tendonitis in my knees and SI syndrome. Pregabalin is great with tramadol"

"I started taking Tramadol 3 weeks after my spinal fusion. During the three weeks prior to starting Tramadol, I was taking narcotics around the clock. Withdrawal from the narcotics was severe and a difficult process for me. Once I was finished with that process, I started taking Tramadol 50-100 mg every 4-6 hours for back pain. With Tramadol I am able to stay awake during the day and manage my pain. These two factors allow me to work on my muscle strength and stamina. I am now 5 weeks post-op and do not require around the clock doses of Tramadol. I am not experiencing any withdrawal symptoms."

"I have been on these tramadol for just a few weeks for permanent nerve damage and sciatica. I've been tried on a few medicines and one worked before but has come under restriction in the UK as a controlled drug (gabapentin) due to people abusing them, so now I am on these Tramadol, they work great in removing the burning, numbness and severe pain that travels from my butt to my toes on my left side, for the best part of the day at least but, They have not been without there side effects! I had bad nausea when trying to get to sleep, bad constipation and delayed emptying of my gut, hemorrhoids due to the constipation, over tired during the day when trying to do my work (manual worker), feel bizarre sometimes, like I am high, vibrating inside lol, been told by my doctor to bare with it my body will eventually settle down and it is just I have never had opiate meds before, I hope he is right but I am also told that they are very addictive, this worries me a bit!"

"I had a horrible experience with this medicine, took only 100 mg once in the morning for a severe low back pain and could hardly function. I became so nauseous, vomiting, disoriented, dizzy, my head was clouded, all I could do was try to find a place to lie down. I guess this is what they call high intolerance/allergy to certain medicines. If you know you have a sensitivity, be very careful. It helped my pain some but made my day absolutely miserable."

"I was prescribed this medication (50 mg x 2 before bedtime) after I was in a bad car accident. The car accident cause two herniated discs that were pressing on a nerve root. I took this medication and absolutely could not sleep. My heart was racing as were my thoughts. Also it caused me to sweat a lot. It was absolutely terrible. I was only able to get 2-4 hoursof sleep a night. I will never take this prescription again."

"I take 100 mgs of Tramadol 3 times a day I.e. every 6 hours during the day. It makes me quite sleepy but it works. I also recently started taking 75mgs of Lyrica for severe nerve pain due to spinal stenosis. I actually think I could give up Tramadol - that is how much Lyrica has helped me. I wish I had been prescribed it much sooner. It's great for me. All I have is nerve pain. No back pain .Was very painful to get up or sit down let alone walk. Not now, I am back to light yard work. Love Lyrica."

"Worked construction for many years and without tramadol I would probably not be able to work. I have missed dosage and not experienced any withdrawal problems. This is a good solution for a problem back without any side effects."

"I don't understand how all the comments I've read on here about tramadol being great for anxiety and depression because when I took tramadol for back pain it made me feel all anxious, shaky and caused insomnia. I had to stop after 2 days of taking it, plus it made me itch all over, I felt awful on it. I've had bouts of anxiety and depression all my life and I'm sure it was the tramadol I took 5 and a half years ago that started my anxiety off again. Once it started it kind of went into a vicious circle of having panic attacks then fearing the next panic attack which then would start another panic attack and so it went on for months, me ending up in hospital, so I'd never take tramadol again no matter how much pain I'm in ."

Ultram ER (tramadol) "I had scoliosis surgery about 30 yrs ago. Was in an auto accident herniated cervical and lumbar discs. Now fused T1-S1. Lumbar fusion resulted in nerve damage with pain radiating through right leg to my toes. Lyrica and Neurontin didn't help. Tramadol worked wonders. I take 2-50mg tabs and they get me moving. But they keep me up at night the pain keeps me up all night too so I take temazepam for sleep. Now I'm trying the extended release version at night hoping the lag time until they start working will allow me some sleep and I'll feel better when I wake up."

"I've tried tramadol twice for my back pain and both times it didn't help at all, but did make me feel sick, confused, irritated and shaky. What's the use of that? This synthetic drug is a joke. While it MAY work on some people for whatever reason, it does NOTHING for me."

"I have been on Tramadol for about 2 years now for my back pain associated with scoliosis. I take 200mg daily. It has worked great! Although just had to up my dose to 300mg daily. I'm afraid that my body is going to get immune and I will have to take more."

"If Tramadol helped you then great, but it did nothing at all for me. I have had 7 low back operations with 10 disc removed and a bunch of rods, plates and screws put in my spine. Nothing really helped my pain except shots of Demerol which you can't live on for ever. I finally got the VA to give me Percocet for the pain 10mg 4 times a day, but then the doctor and the VA cut everyone back to 3 times a day. I changed doctors and he put me on 10mg 3 times a day but also 15mg time release morphine to be taken at bedtime. I still have a little pain and the morphine does nothing to help. Im fine with what im on but the reason I am writing here is you all that need stronger pain meds something like oxycodone need to write congress to leave it alone"

Tramadol Hydrochloride ER (tramadol) "The first 3 days I took Tramadol Hcl tablets, 1/2 tablet in the morning, and the other half at night, as per my doctor's orders. They were 50mg. tablets. Had a slight adverse reaction the second time they were prescribed for me, so had to go slow. Most of the pain disappeared for those 3 days. On the fourth day, I took my usual dose-1/2 of a 50mg. tablet with a full glass of water, as usual. Within a few hours, I began to experience some of the side effects listed: nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, headaches, itchiness, upset stomach, and lightheadedness. I also had a few extra side effects: constant belching, acid reflux, and shortness of breath. These events lasted for several hours."

"Worst stuff around. Do not take this stuff! Doc started me out with 50 mg two times a day. Wasn't relieving my pain, so got pushed to two pills every 6 hrs. It only take away some of the pain. When I wanted to stop taking the pills I went through 4 days of awful withdrawals even though he told me I wouldn't have them. I hate that doctor now. I'm going all natural for the pain."

"I take daily for L5 Herniated disc. It is very effective in restoring a quality life with pain marginalized. I take 2 to 8 tabs rather irregularly today as my back condition improves. Side effects: if I take up to 8 tabs in a day, I inevitably have sleeping problems and in most cases I require another medication to prevent a sleepless night."

"After my 1st knee surgery the Dr. prescribed Tramadol for pain. After a few days I started having severe back pain, like a knife twisting back and forth. The pain was much worse at night and could NOT sleep. We googled Tramadol and read about all the side affects and I had several of the extreme ones. Guess I can't tolerate it? After stopping the pills, it took about a week to be able to sleep at night. The pain was worse than child birth and/or passing a kidney stone!"

"I took tramadol for 5 years. At first it worked. Side effects were weight loss (about 15lbs) and an overall mood boost. After about a year of use, it stopped working on my back pain. My doctor told me I could take up to 4 50 mg pills a day. So I did. That worked for about another year give or take. I continued to take it bc I feared the crippling withdrawal I would experience anytime I went more than 12 hours without it. I finally weaned myself of it when I realized there was no point being dependent on a med that doesn’t work anymore. The weaning process took 3 months. I wish I would’ve done it sooner."

"I was prescribed Tramadol when diagnosed with a herniated disc at the start of this year. I have found Tramadol to be an effective painkiller, but at a price. Following my operation I suffered very bad withdrawal, the hot sweats for the first couple of weeks were quite frankly awful. I was taking 100mg 3 times a day. Unfortunately, post op I am still suffering pain, and occasionally take 1 x 50mg once or twice a day. Again I suffer awful sickness, dizziness and headaches. At night I suffer from nightmares, and generally do not feel myself. For those prescribed tramadol please be cautious as whilst it is a good painkiller, the side effects are very unpleasant."

"I have had back pain for the last month and was given 50mg tramadol tablets upon where I take two at a time usually once a day. I wanted to discuss my side effects as they seem bizarre but looking online I'm not the only one. After 30 mins I feel extremely happy and everyone is my friend. I feel overwhelmingly more in love with my wife and I feel like having sex more. However, talking from a males point of view it dampens the experience but keeps the erection. It basically makes me last longer. My only negative side effect is a feeling in my arms as though someone has just punched me using their knuckle. This goes eventually."
