"I have been on tramadol for about 2 years now for my back pain associated with scoliosis. I take 200 mg daily. It has worked great! Although I just had to up my dose to 300 mg daily. I'm afraid that my body is going to get immune and I will have to take more."

"I had a horrible experience with this medicine, took only 100 mg once in the morning for severe low back pain and could hardly function. I became so nauseous, vomiting, disoriented, dizzy, my head was clouded, all I could do was try to find a place to lie down. I guess this is what they call high intolerance/allergy to certain medicines. If you know you have a sensitivity, be very careful. It helped my pain some but made my day absolutely miserable."

"Helps with pain. In the beginning, it made me constipated, but only the first 2 weeks. I slept more, at least 8 hrs a night. For me, it worked together with Flexeril and Lyrica. I was taking it 3 times a day, and now it's 1/2 pill twice a day. I am off of Lyrica and trying to get off tramadol too."

"I was given Tramadol for back pain. I was very adamant in making sure my doctor knew that I am bipolar, as my last doctor kept trying to prescribe me steroids, which can induce hypomania/mania in bipolar people. Apparently, my doctor did NOT know that Tramadol is a partial antidepressant, and he prescribed me this medication for a herniated disc in my back. For one, this medicine is useless as a painkiller for me. It doesn't even touch the pain. And then on top of it, Tramadol induced the worst manic episode of my life, leaving me severely anxious, wound up, restless, unable to sleep, and in a dark place. I've almost gone to the emergency room about five times because of my thoughts. I finally googled tramadol and bipolar disorder and realized that I should never have been prescribed this medication. I failed to read the paperwork the pharmacy gave me because I had taken this medication in the past, before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and had no adverse reactions."

"I tried Tramadol a few times to quell the pain in my lower back. It did help my back just a little but still had the pain. Every time, even after the first dose, I felt very nervous and dizzy and felt as though I was going to pass out. I found that some neurologists will not give it to patients. I now take Hydrocodone 5 mg a day, and it completely eliminates the pain. My doctor says this med has no side effects like Tramadol."

"Tramadol just doesn’t work, period. I started low and worked my way up to what the doctor said was the highest allowed dosage, and it didn’t do anything for my back pain. In fact, I felt it made things worse. My stomach hurt, and I felt shaky. I don’t understand the move towards this useless medication at all. It just doesn’t work."

"This medication is awful. I have severe back pain and leg pain that, when it gets at its worst, I can’t do anything without screaming and crying. I can’t even stand, sit, or lie down. Due to the opioid crisis, I was prescribed tramadol, and it did absolutely nothing. I kept taking it because I was desperate for anything to help. The only thing I got from it was awful withdrawals from when I finally stopped taking it after a couple of weeks. I didn’t sleep but 2 hours a night for months, I had awful anxiety and depression and was severely agitated all the time for no reason. I would never recommend taking this to anybody."

"It literally does nothing. I've even taken 200 mg at a time. Nothing. You're better off taking Advil. I have no idea why this is even prescribed to people. Maybe it's a placebo drug? It doesn't help at all."

"I took tramadol for 5 years. At first, it worked. Side effects were weight loss (about 15 lbs) and an overall mood boost. After about a year of use, it stopped working on my back pain. My doctor told me I could take up to 4 50 mg pills a day. So I did. That worked for about another year, give or take. I continued to take it because I feared the crippling withdrawal I would experience anytime I went more than 12 hours without it. I finally weaned myself off it when I realized there was no point in being dependent on a med that doesn’t work anymore. The weaning process took 3 months. I wish I would’ve done it sooner."

"I take it daily for an L5 herniated disc. It is very effective in restoring a quality of life with pain marginalized. I take 2 to 8 tabs rather irregularly today as my back condition improves. Side effects: if I take up to 8 tabs in a day, I inevitably have sleeping problems, and in most cases, I require another medication to prevent a sleepless night."

"After my 1st knee surgery, the Dr. prescribed Tramadol for pain. After a few days, I started having severe back pain, like a knife twisting back and forth. The pain was much worse at night and I could NOT sleep. We googled Tramadol and read about all the side effects, and I had several of the extreme ones. Guess I can't tolerate it? After stopping the pills, it took about a week to be able to sleep at night. The pain was worse than childbirth and/or passing a kidney stone!"

"White oblong marked 377, I found completely ineffective for relief of my back pain, where the white oval marked ouyl 101 was very effective in managing my pain. I don't understand how they can call it the same drug. I'm no expert here, but I would think the potential for catastrophic results exists in such situations."

"I have been on this tramadol for just a few weeks for permanent nerve damage and sciatica. I've been tried on a few medicines, and one worked before but has come under restriction in the UK as a controlled drug (gabapentin) due to people abusing them, so now I am on this tramadol, they work great in removing the burning, numbness, and severe pain that travels from my butt to my toes on my left side for the best part of the day at least. But, they have not been without their side effects! I had bad nausea when trying to get to sleep, bad constipation, and delayed emptying of my gut, hemorrhoids due to the constipation, over-tired during the day when trying to do my work (manual worker), feel bizarre sometimes, like I am high, vibrating inside lol. Been told by my doctor to bear with it, my body will eventually settle down, and it is just I have never had opiate meds before. I hope he is right, but I am also told that they are very addictive, this worries me a bit!"

"I was prescribed this medication (50 mg x 2 before bedtime) after I was in a bad car accident. The car accident caused two herniated discs that were pressing on a nerve root. I took this medication and absolutely could not sleep. My heart was racing, as were my thoughts. Also, it caused me to sweat a lot. It was absolutely terrible. I was only able to get 2-4 hours of sleep a night. I will never take this prescription again."

"If tramadol helped you, then great, but it did nothing at all for me. I have had 7 low back operations with 10 discs removed and a bunch of rods, plates, and screws put in my spine. Nothing really helped my pain except shots of Demerol, which you can't live on forever. I finally got the VA to give me Percocet for the pain, 10 mg 4 times a day, but then the doctor and the VA cut everyone back to 3 times a day. I changed doctors, and he put me on 10 mg 3 times a day, but also 15 mg time-release morphine to be taken at bedtime. I still have a little pain, and the morphine does nothing to help. I'm fine with what I'm on, but the reason I am writing here is you all that need stronger pain meds, something like oxycodone, need to write Congress to leave it alone."

"I had a stroke at 27 due to constant drinking and drug use, mainly from depression. I also had smoked a pack a day for 15 years (started when I was twelve). I had a lot of back pain before the stroke. Bad enough that I would drink myself into a blackout to get rid of the pain or take so many Lortabs. Once I got to the rehab unit to rehabilitate my arm from the stroke, I told them about the pain, and they gave me oxycodone, which helped for my migraines from the stroke, but not my back pain. I am now taking Paxil and tramadol and have almost no pain. It is hard to believe, so I give it an A."

"I was prescribed tramadol when diagnosed with a herniated disc at the start of this year. I have found tramadol to be an effective painkiller, but at a price. Following my operation, I suffered very bad withdrawal, the hot sweats for the first couple of weeks were, quite frankly, awful. I was taking 100 mg three times a day. Unfortunately, post-op, I am still suffering pain and occasionally take 1 x 50 mg once or twice a day. Again, I suffer awful sickness, dizziness, and headaches. At night, I suffer from nightmares and generally do not feel myself. For those prescribed tramadol, please be cautious, as while it is a good painkiller, the side effects are very unpleasant."

"This drug is not meant for depression, it is an opioid and highly addictive, should only be taken when you have a lot of pain that ibuprofen/tylenol can’t get rid of. Very highly addictive, with side effects just like codeine. For my pain, it works really good."

"At first, it was the best medication I have come across in my life, made me happy and energetic. I had just had a baby girl who has colic, so you can understand my need for a super drug. I took it every day, it gave me super powers, I would say. But two tablets a day weren't enough. Now my baby girl is 3 years and 9 months, and I was taking way too many at a time. It almost killed me with four trips to the ER. I was losing control of my life. I let this tablet control me. I HATE TRAMADOL. That happiness isn't permanent, it's all fake. It's going to fade. That energy you seem to have is going to take a huge toll on yourself once you stop. I'm now on day 7 of not taking it, and it is terrible - I still have no energy to cook, clean, or look after my baby - it's the worst feeling in my life. God help me. I pray for you all and your families that you never have to suffer from this piece of garbage. They should stop destroying us humans this way!!!!!"

"I've tried tramadol twice for my back pain, and both times it didn't help at all, but did make me feel sick, confused, irritated, and shaky. What's the use of that? This synthetic drug is a joke. While it may work on some people for whatever reason, it does nothing for me."

"I take 100 mgs of Tramadol 3 times a day, i.e., every 6 hours during the day. It makes me quite sleepy, but it works. I also recently started taking 75 mgs of Lyrica for severe nerve pain due to spinal stenosis. I actually think I could give up Tramadol-that is how much Lyrica has helped me. I wish I had been prescribed it much sooner. It's great for me. All I have is nerve pain. No back pain. Was very painful to get up or sit down, let alone walk. Not now, I am back to light yard work. Love Lyrica."

"My doctor switched me to Tramadol after Tylenol 3 started losing effectiveness. I was on Ty 3 for years, after four lumbar surgeries, two fusions, continued pain... taking 3-4, 50 mg Tramadol/day, trying to keep it at three. Not pain-free, but at least bearable. Unless/until it wears off. I have joint pain, my elbows hurt. OW. Pretty sure it's caused by the drug, but right now, dealing with it."

"I have been taking tramadol for about eight months for arthritis in my back. I used to take Norcos 5/325 for the pain, but it didn't help. Tramadol works so well when it comes to my back pain, it's the only thing that helps. But the bad part about it is the itching and insomnia."

"Tramadol is just about as useful as teats on a boar hog! It is not as strong as two 325 mg of aspirin! Do not waste your time or money having a prescription of it filled, and be sure to kick the worthless doctor who gave it to you before you leave, for he is someone you never want to ever go back to again!"

"This was the best drug I had found for my lower back, stress-related pain. But my doctor sent me to an orthopedic doctor, which I thought was for my lower leg numbness. Now she wants me to take Mobic 15 mg 2 times a day instead. I had tried Mobic before with no improvement in pain. I am VERY frustrated with my doctor and may find another one."
