Tramadol "Started taking it for back pain. I took two doses and ended up in the hospital with hallucinations, dizziness, and feeling faint. Shortly after that, my body started shaking uncontrollably from the inside, making my legs feel like I had run for days."

"I have been on Tramadol for 6 years for herniated discs as well as spondylolisthesis, which causes severe sciatica. It has been a godsend as narcotics did nothing for the sciatica and are awful all the way around. It also helps my mood and is a good replacement for antidepressants with absolutely no side effects. The only downside for me is the tolerance factor. I have to take more now for the same effect, 100 mg 2 times a day instead of 50 mg 2 times a day."

"Has transformed my life from constant pain and lack of sleep to normal! Been on Tramadol over 10 years now. The only downside is that if I forget to take it, I get withdrawn - very depressed, feel quite ill (nauseous, clammy). But since my back pain is incurable, this isn't an issue. I dread to think how I would live a normal life without the pain relief tramadol gives me."

"It is interesting to read all of the diverse reports concerning this drug. Some would not recommend it, while others have benefited from it completely. As for me, I am of the latter category... for it has helped me countless times in relieving the back pain and depression. It is truly my 'happy pill'... for which I am thankful."

"RISK OF SUICIDE * WARNING * CAUTION * DON'T STOP TAKING YOUR TRAMADOL COLD TURKEY. My brother stopped taking Tramadol suddenly, without slowly tapering off. His serotonin level plummeted, he had a bad morning at work, and he committed suicide. Taking his own life was completely out of his nature. He was a pretty steady, content guy who deeply loved his wife and sons, and they him. Going off Tramadol cold turkey directly caused his death. SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT TAPERING OFF, AND SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY IF YOU THINK ABOUT SUICIDE. Your loved ones and friends want you here."

"Tramadol works great for my back pain during the day when I'm working. It has worked great for me for over 10 years, and it keeps my stress levels down. Things that I normally would let bother me don't bother me."

"I have degenerative disk disease, arthritis, sciatica, and chronic pain in my back from years in construction. I also have a history of heart attacks and heart disease. My doctor started me on Lortab for the pain, which made the pain bearable and allowed me to continue to work, for some reason, he changed me to tramadol. NEVER AGAIN will I touch that stuff. I took my first dose, and within 15 minutes, I was lying on the kitchen table thinking I was having a heart attack. This stuff is HORRIBLE!!! I'm now back on Lortab and doing fine. It's a huge pain in the butt that people who need opiates have to suffer because of people who abuse and sell them. We use them to maintain a quality life, not for the high."

"I have spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis in my back. I was referred to the pain clinic, and they put me on tramadol after 4 cortisone injections failed to help the pain. I take one 50 mg tablet along with 500 mg of acetaminophen every 6 hours as needed. It works very well in relieving the pain for me. I don't take it every 6 hours, only when I feel I need it, otherwise, I just tolerate it. I have had no withdrawal symptoms or negative side effects, and it makes my quality of life a whole lot better. It isn't perfect, but it works fine for me."

"If your back pain is more nerve-based, this can really help. Even more than very strong painkillers. It works better as it has properties that work on the nerves. Also, I have not had to up the dose in 4 years."

"Pulled muscles in lower back from lifting on delivery route. Needed meds I could take during the day while driving. One 50 mg in the a.m. with 2 Advil liquid gels & I'm pain-free all day. The best side effect has been the clarity to mental processes. Like a cloud has been lifted & my concentration has dramatically increased. Focus like I've never experienced before & general attitude improvement. The worse side effect is the occasional constipation, but that's what prunes are for. This is my 'Limitless' pill from the movie."

"I have scoliosis and take one pill a day anywhere from 0-5 times a week depending on my pain, which comes and goes erratically but makes me almost cry when it’s bad. I’m currently waiting for a doctor appointment so I can start physical therapy again. However, in the meantime, tramadol is the only thing getting me through this rough patch. Fortunately, I find no real side effects other than relief of my general anxiety, and I have absolutely no problems when I don’t take it. From reading these reviews, it sounds like I’m one of the lucky ones. I’m blessed to have found this medication so I can work and be a good wife and mom."

"Tramadol has been my prescribed medication for back pain since 2012. I have a herniated disc. Pain levels vary from day to day. I have found that Tramadol does what I need it to do, and that it grants me relief from the pain I experience. On rare occasions, say about once every two months, the pain overrides the medication. That puts me a little into panic mode, and to this point, my doctor has not felt the need to prescribe anything else."

"Although I think it is great that people read up on medications that they take, I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure this medication is prescribed by a doctor who has examined you, knows your biology, and knows what meds you should take. Too many people lose their lives taking meds not prescribed for them, or mixing with OTC meds or drinking alcohol. Be safe. This drug worked great for my back pain. I am glad my doctor chose it for me."

"I started taking Tramadol 50 mg twice daily due to disc extrusion and severe leg pain. I am now on 200 mg in the morning and another 200 mg at dinner time. I would not be able to get out of bed if I did not take Tramadol, it's an amazing difference it made also on my leg pain. Some side effects are headaches and drowsiness."

"Helps. Seems to take an hour or two to kick in. I have back pain and pain shooting down my left buttock and thigh. Worth a try for those in this type of pain. Two 50 mg in the morning and two in the evening. Good luck."

"This medicine does nothing for me. It is also a medication not good for my kidneys. I have stage 3 kidney disease. Please, pain doctors, listen to your patients. My back pain is so severe I cannot take care of my house or myself at times. I am tired of pain and walking bent over."

"So I was on alprazolam for over a year for anxiety and seizure-related purposes, and a few weeks back, I pulled my entire back out and didn't know what to do. Went to the doc and was prescribed tramadol. It has helped with my anxiety and pain, which I didn't think would happen. I take 100 mg a day, but I find I can't sleep on these, so I take 50 mg in the morning (8 am) and again at 4 pm so that by 9 pm, I can take my melatonin and go to sleep. I've heard long-term use causes horrible withdrawals, so I'll probably take it for another week and should be good as new. So in conclusion, if you have anxiety and really bad back pain or pain in general, I'd recommend it, but only for short-term use."

"When I was a young teen, I tore 90% of my low back muscles during a recreational activity. My doctor did not want to put a 16-year-old on narcotics, so we went through the whole loop of prescription Advil, Tylenol, and Aleve. Finally, I told him none of those worked, so he put me on Tramadol. I am on 50 mg every 4 hours as needed. I like these since they allow me to still be functional. Yeah, it is short-term, but I'm functional. They do make higher doses with the extended-release coating, which my sister has for her back pain also. I would highly recommend this as a narcotic alternative."

"Works wonders. Had l3-4 spine surgery when I was 21. Tried all types of narcotics, perks to patches, and they didn't do anything. Even cortisone shots, aqua therapy, nothing worked. Best relief and still take it when pain is bad and going down my leg and can barely move. Now 40 and still works wonders. I don't take every day, so no side effects, just take when pain is really bad."

"I have been taking tramadol for back pain, and it also works for anxiety, but doctors seem to believe it's not for anxiety or depression because of the opiate that's in it. But it works 10 times better than any anti-anxiety pill I have taken."

"I have found Tramadol to be very effective for my back pain. Have had two surgeries on my back, and constant pain has become my friend. Surgeons tell me that they can't do anything else for me as I also have degenerative disc disease, stenosis, and arthritis spurs on all my vertebrae. 50 mg twice a day pretty well does the job. Have had no negative results, and for now, I would recommend Tramadol for pain."

"I've been on Tramadol for 6 months for back pain. I can't take narcotics like codeine, oxycodone, etc., as they make me terribly dizzy and nauseous, as well as give me pounding headaches. But I can take Tramadol without any of those effects. Tramadol also doesn't give me a 'high' like many painkillers, so I'm never tempted to take extra just to get a buzz. I've been afraid to go beyond the 150 mg/day prescribed by my doc, but there are days when 150 just doesn't feel like enough, so I need to talk to my doc about an increase at times. Overall, this med does a fair job at controlling chronic pain without causing side effects. It's worth trying to see if it will work for you."

"I have had on and off back pain from a prior injury. I was just dealing with the pain because I didn’t want to take ibuprofen all the time. My doctor prescribed the lower dose of tramadol. All I can say is why didn’t I try this before? Not only does it mute the pain, the anxiety I feel is just gone. I feel happy and my concentration is way better. I only take it when I can’t deal with the pain, but have started researching it for anxiety as well. So far no withdrawals, but I do not take it every day."

"I've taken Tramadol 50 mg 3 times a day for 3 years because of my L1 vertebra being crushed in an accident. It does reduce the pain level down to tolerable. A word of caution though, this medication is addictive. As with all opioid-like meds, withdrawal symptoms are very, very hard to deal with."

Tramadol "I have been using Tramadol for back pain due to spinal fusion. I found that when I am on a higher dose, I feel OK, but once I am under 200 mg a day, it doesn't work for me. Unfortunately, this medicine has to be weaned from, so I have to go through the lower dosages to be able to try another medicine."
