Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "This medication has had the adverse effect for me. After being diagnosed with Hashimoto's, my doctor expected that this medication would help me with brain fog, energy, and tiredness. I experienced the opposite. Within a few days of taking the 60 mg dosage, I felt worse. I began sleeping extremely heavily, had a huge amount of trouble waking in the morning, and could barely keep my eyes open past 8:30 pm each night. I gained five pounds in two months even though I had improved my eating habits and exercise. I began getting these dull headaches on the top of my head. I became extremely irritable with everything, which is not my normal disposition. My doctor told me to stop taking it immediately and is prescribing Nature-throid. We'll see how that goes."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I was switched from Nature Thyroid and Armour to NP Thyroid due to supply and insurance issues. I have been totally exhausted and bloated, which is partially due to stress (which also affects thyroid symptoms), but given the above comments may also be due to the medicine. I haven’t had thyroid levels rechecked recently and wondered if anyone has since experienced exhaustion, bloating, etc.? Although a relative who also is hypothyroid commented recently that once diagnosed, if symptoms of exhaustion, weight gain, etc. return, medicine should be adjusted even if bloodwork results are in the acceptable range. (Several relatives are hypothyroid and have been told by doctors to go by symptoms/how one is feeling in addition to bloodwork TSH levels. There are other bloodwork tests besides TSH that specialists do also.) Hopefully, the makers of NP Thyroid will get the problem sorted out soon."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Switched to NP Thyroid after the Nature Throid shortage. It drove my FT3 levels to the top of the range and my FT4 levels below normal. Tired, aching, and weight gain. Now my doctor has cut my dosage because of the high FT3, and my symptoms are even worse. As soon as I can, I am switching back to Nature Throid."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "Was okay until the company making it stopped putting the correct amount of thyroxine in the pills. I was falling asleep all the time, everywhere! And had absolutely no energy for anything. The company making the drug finally talked, and I had to go back to levothyroxine. Things have been a little better, but not great. Throw out this medication when you get a different one, but follow up on all the things that are contraindicated to taking synthetic thyroid for low thyroid. Your doctor probably has not researched or even read the accompanying information concerning the drug he/she is prescribing. Do your own research, no one else bothers!!!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "I was taking Armour Thyroid for a couple of years and doing fine. When I changed pharmacies, they automatically filled my prescription with NP Thyroid. I'm nearly 90 days into NP Thyroid, and my aches and pains have increased, and I'm exhausted by 3 pm. When I get home from work, I sometimes have to take a short nap just to function. Also, my nails are breaking. I haven't had my numbers tested recently, but I'm having my prescription refilled with AT!!!!!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "I am on this medication due to a shortage of Naturethroid. Both times the pharmacy switched me to this instead of Armour, I get extremely sick. I have been experiencing dizziness, lethargy, I even have circles under my eyes. Very frustrating. I work for a doctor and expressed my concern. We won't be recommending this to patients. I have patients who have also complained. I do have celiac disease, so not sure if absorption for some reason is an issue."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I had horrible side effects on Synthroid. My hair fell out, I was lethargic, the side effects almost weren't worth the little good it did. With Nature Thyroid, the inside of my ears itched all the time, and wax production was excessive, and I still lost excessive hair and even eyebrows. With NP Thyroid, I experienced no side effects and an actual improvement in my thyroid function over time."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "They prescribed me NP Thyroid 30 mg and gave me testosterone pellets. I felt okay, then three weeks later I was very active. I could actually be productive during the day. But then slowly all that energy turned into anxiety. I couldn't rest. I caught myself ready to argue with anyone at any time. I felt such intensity, the negative kind. So I asked the doctor to switch brands because what I was feeling didn't seem normal to me. Also, my blood test showed even lower thyroid (meaning the medicine wasn't working) and that I needed a testosterone booster. They switched me to Armour. The first week I was crying uncontrollably. I had a breakdown at work. It was ridiculous, and then another breakdown for no reason! My boss thought I was crazy. I've been on Armour for two weeks now. This second week they gave me a higher dose (45 mg), and I don't cry anymore, but now I feel tired, like I'm on caffeine all the time. You know how caffeine keeps you awake but still has that tired feeling in the background."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I could only last 10 days on NP Thyroid. I became so much more exhausted I couldn’t get myself out of bed. Increased brain fog. Increased headaches. Increased depression. Increased water retention. Stomach became bloated and developed constipation. I’ve been off of it for 5 days and still feeling off. I’m very sensitive to drugs, but this has never happened to me with other thyroid medications."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "Was on NP 1.25 grain, had to up it since a change was made at Acella, not sure what that was. My TSH went up to 2.68, felt poorly, no energy. Now take a 1.5 grain plus 0.25 grain. Feel good. Don't really care about the smell, not sure what my numbers are yet, will check in a few weeks."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had a removal of my thyroid, and I was put on three other medications beforehand, but then I was put on Nature-Throid. I did wonderful, no side effects. I had no weight gain, I slept well, no sweating. I didn’t have any side effects whatsoever, I felt great. Now they’ve taken Nature-Throid off the market, and we are all waiting for it to come back on the market. I am on Amor now, and I have gained a lot of weight. I have got head fog so bad, muscle weakness, no energy. I can’t go to bed, I feel like I’m going insane. I need to be put back on Nature-Throid."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Levothyroxine (generic of Synthroid) for 3 years. It gave me terrible facial acne, and my weight fluctuated in an 8-pound cycle up and down. I plateaued at a certain weight. I started Np, and the acne went away immediately, but I've gained 8 pounds over that plateau in 2 months, and the cellulite on my legs doubled. I have no idea if this is related, but it seems too coincidental. Still super tired. Irritable. Occasional leg cramps."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I took levothyroxine for three years, and my period was inconsistent, maybe only getting one per year. Finally got my doctor to switch me over to Armour, and my period is back. I’m 30, I’ve been on the medication for two months now, still tired, but my body may still be adjusting."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had my right thyroid removed 4 years ago. They started me out on levothyroxine 50 mg. My side effects were itchy eyes, brain fog, and tired every day around 4:00. The doctor changed my medication to Armour 30 mg and 15 mg. I loved it for 3 years. The start of my 4 years was good until July 2021. Side effects were bad weight gain, brain fog so bad I was having trouble with having a conversation. I was tired too. I just did not put two and two together and realized it was my thyroid medication. Saw the doctor in October, told her my side effects, told her I stopped taking the 15 mg Armour, and the side effects lessened. My blood work came back with my TSH off the charts. She now has me on Armour 30 mg and levothyroxine 50 mg. My side effects now are losing my hair, tired, cold, weight gain. I have only been on this for a month and a half. I am hoping it will lessen over time."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I have tried Levothyroxine, Synthroid, NThyroid. They did not work for me. I did much better on Armour Thyroid. I have noticed in the last few months that I have more muscle pain and more tired. Have they changed the formula? Insurance won't pay for it. I'm assuming because the FDA has not approved it."

I am tired of being itchy, tired, bloated, with brain fog, no energy, constipation, and weight gain. This all started with itch about 5 years ago. Anyone have itch? It can go from itch to burning, sharp neuro pain. I am not sure if one ailment has anything to do with the Hashimoto. Years ago, I took thyrosol but was not diagnosed with HD. I am giving the med a 10 because I am hoping it works."
