For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking Armour again after trying Nature-Throid and NP. I had previously taken Armour for many years, but the price went up, so I asked my Endo to find a cheaper alternative. However, after being on both Nature-Throid (which gave me chest pains) and NP (smelled like cat urine and tasted bad), I decided I had to go back on Armour. Armour is not the same as it was years ago. I used to do so well on it. Now I am anxious, cold, not sleeping well, itchy, experiencing heart palpitations, and having vision problems. I know something has changed with the formula. I don't know what to take. Synthroid is not an option. Why did they change Armour when it was fine the way it was and also raised the price??"

For Underactive Thyroid "Been on Armour Thyroid since 2010 when my doctor switched me from Levoxyl. I did really well for many years, up until about 6 months ago, when I began feeling differently, and most recently a very concerning heart palpitations situation. I'm hoping that the switch my endocrinologist just made to Synthroid will be helpful, as I'm very uncomfortable and concerned. Not sure when the manufacturer went from Forest to Allergan, but wondering if that's the problem, and if anyone else is experiencing similar effects."

For Underactive Thyroid "DO NOT TAKE THIS. I was on Nature-Throid with no problems for about a year before being switched to this garbage due to recall. I took NP Thyroid for about a week and ended up in the back of an ambulance this morning because my husband thought I was having a heart attack. I am a 30-year-old female athlete with no underlying health conditions other than an underactive thyroid. The past week on it has been a blur. Brain fog, irritability, heart palpitations, achy body and joints, breathlessness, migraines, nausea, dizziness, extreme fatigue, and anxiety. I don't know what's in this stuff, but it needs to be pulled. There is something very wrong with NP Thyroid. Stay far away from this stuff."

For Underactive Thyroid "I’ve been on NP for 4 months. I haven’t been feeling well and have a splitting headache, so I googled side effects. I don’t know what made me think it could be thyroid medicine. For some reason, it just popped into my head. I have very bad headaches daily, bloated stomach, constipation, I’m very cold all the time, foggy, and just out of it. I’m so tired and have a 'I don’t care' attitude. I used to take levo and didn’t have any of these problems. My numbers aren’t changing, so the doctor keeps increasing the dosage. Now at 120 mg, I have such blurry vision, which is sometimes double vision. Heart palpitations. Chest pain. Joint pain. I can’t sleep. I'm glad I came here to read, I thought I must have a terrible disease. Seeing doctor in a few days."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have had many of the same experiences with the chemical thyroid meds. I asked to be switched over to Armour and felt great. Then, after a few years, I noticed something was terribly wrong, had heart palpitations and just super tired all the time. I went to the pharmacy, and he told me that they changed the formula and that it had more fillers. He said that he could compound it for me, and that would take care of the problem. So, I asked my doctor and got a prescription for it to be compounded. All I can say is what a difference!!! Back to my old self."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Nature-Throid for quite a long time and was doing great until it wasn't available. Then, I switched to NP Thyroid for the past year or so. The NP Thyroid has given me horrible insomnia, heart palpitations, terrible anxiety, and many more symptoms. I was so grateful to find this site and read everyone's reviews because I didn't really put it together until I started digging. I don't know what I'm going to do now for meds, but I am not staying on this any longer. The last few batches have been really bad, and I've been feeling much worse. Thank you all for writing!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I was prescribed this medication for mild hypothyroidism. I think doctors need to be very careful when prescribing thyroid medications for people who have mild hypothyroidism. I wish I would have done my research beforehand, otherwise, I would have really reconsidered taking this medication. Anyhow, I started at a very small dose, 15 mg for about two weeks. Then increased to 30 mg for a few days until I woke up one night with heart palpitations. It was a very scary experience. I had a slew of other symptoms after that such as dry mouth, eyes, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea, and the list goes on. My body definitely did not want/need this medicine. After about 2 1/2 months of discontinuing this medicine, the side effects are mostly gone, however, not completely. I share my story because I think people need to really do their research on medicines. I had a terrible reaction, and sometimes doctors think they are prescribing a medicine to help, when at times it can be harmful."

For Underactive Thyroid "Was on Armour for 10 yrs with good results, good consistent labs. Last year, the pharmacy refilled with NP Thyroid on and off, claiming availability issues, then insurance denial. So, in November 2019, decided to just keep the script NP. Labs last year not as good. In January 2020, had a horrible episode of nausea, dizziness, increased BP, irregular pulse, and flu-like symptoms. Took a few days to realize intensity increased a couple hours after dose. Stopped for a few days, then took a partial dose for a month, noted puffy face, so went back to full dose. This past week, symptoms recurred along with a very bloated, gassy stomach, constant belching, scary high BP, palpitations, and dizziness. Ended up in the doctor's office. EKG showed PACs. My weight also went up 10 lbs past year. Just picked up Armour, paid out of pocket, hoping all these symptoms disappear. See many here had similar experiences."

For Underactive Thyroid "Last week, my pharmacy gave me NP Thyroid instead of regularly prescribed Armour Thyroid. At first, I noticed the strong smell and taste of mildew/cat wee. I checked the label on my prescription and noticed it wasn’t Armour. A week into taking this, I noticed my body aching and heart palpitations. Then my heart started pounding, and I got all jittery. My hands and knees were shaking, and I felt weak with a headache and brain fog. I called my pharmacist, and after talking to them, they exchanged that medication for my regular Armour. After looking into this medication, I found out it has been recalled multiple times, and my symptoms were identical to other multiple people's reviews. Please do not take this medicine. It is terrible."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was put on this after Nature Throid was recalled. I ended up with atrial fibrillation. I stopped the drug. A cardiologist told me to restart it. I then had hyperthyroid symptoms after four days when I am actually hypothyroid. This drug needs to be recalled. Nature Throid never caused me any problems. It just did its job."

For Hashimoto's disease "I’ve been on Armour thyroid for over 10 years, taking 60 mg daily. My prescription got filled with NP thyroid this last time. When I received it, I saw the change, quickly looked it up, saw desiccated thyroid and figured it was fine. I finished my Armour and switched over. I was also recently diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy for which I’ve been taking Modafinil for the last 4 months. So when I started developing headaches, palpitations, hypertension, and GI bloating, and let’s just say it-farts-I actually thought it was that. Even though it’s only been about a month of those symptoms. Today as I sat here and pondered why the headaches and increase in BP, I thought of the thyroid medication switch and started poking around. And here I found some answers. Along with reading the differences in Armour and NP. I won’t take it tomorrow or the next day, until they give me Armour back. Be alert to what feels good, right, and normal. Be persistent in your health!"

For Thyroid Cancer "When I found NP Thyroid 11 months ago, I got my life back. I struggled for a year on different medications after a total thyroidectomy for cancer, but now Acella changed all that. That's over now. They changed the supplier for the active ingredient, claiming it worked exactly the same. It does not. I am having memory problems, brain fog, heart palpitations, headache, and a burning throat. There is something wrong with these pills. No more NP Thyroid for me."

For Underactive Thyroid "I took NatureThroid for 12 years without problems and good results. It was recalled. I found I could not take Synthroid, which tore up my digestive tract. I tried Tirosint and no go. Endocrinologist switched me to NP Thyroid. I went to the ER with a head injury, and that had no ill effects. I was not allowed to leave and was detained for 10 hours because I had atrial fibrillation. I came home with a beta blocker and a blood thinner, which I hope are temporary. This is a dangerous and horrible drug. Irregular heartbeat is a listed side effect. I reported it to the FDA, mentioning that the recall of NatureThroid caused this situation."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Armour for almost 20 years with no issues. My June 2021 refill triggered incredible anxiety and irritability, increased heart rate, heat intolerance (and I worked in heat and was acclimated to it). Like others posting reviews, I also noted jaw clenching and tooth grinding. In August 2021, I was hospitalized for an arrhythmia the doctors told me was from being overmedicated. Armour changed, either due to supply chain problems or to save money or both. I can no longer trust it and switched to levothyroxine/cytomel."

For Underactive Thyroid "Started taking NP Thyroid about 3 weeks ago. I was taking WP Thyroid due to recall, no longer available. I have chronic Lyme and co-infections. I've been feeling a lot better lately. About 2 weeks ago, I started feeling very anxious, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, severely depressed, brain fog, muscle pain/aches, and the list is endless. I really thought it was one of my co-infections coming back. Paid $580 to get tested for it, and I was negative. Couldn't figure out what was causing all of this until I Googled NP Thyroid, it smells like cat pee. I will no longer be taking it. I don't know what to change it to, I see my doc on Monday, I hope to get it sorted. Please don't touch this stuff."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I was on Synthroid for 14 years after my thyroidectomy (thyroid cancer). My body stopped absorbing Synthroid medicine. My doctor prescribed NP Thyroid, and I figured, great, something new and I’ll finally feel better. The exact opposite happened. I had diarrhea for 2 months every single day (I’ve never had stomach issues), heart palpitations, and I was tired all the time. Talked with my doctor this week, and we checked my levels. My T3 and T4 were dangerously low. For 2 months, the medication didn’t work at all. I called the pharmaceutical company today to put in a complaint and am waiting for someone to call me on a recorded line. It’s alarming to read all of these comments and hear that we all have similar issues. I’m a working mother who needs to have my medicine to function. I’ve missed work, sporting events, and time with my family. Please look into these ingredients, fix them, or remove this medication from the market."

For Hashimoto's disease "Finally, a medication that works wonderfully! I have never felt better. So far, so good! Used to be on Naturethroid. Had heart palpitations, highs and lows. The Stop The Thyroid Madness Support Group I follow has its members highly recommending NP by Acella. However, I do not understand the shortages in these thyroid medications when they are so desperately needed! The AMA has a lot of catching up to do because their protocol is counterintuitive and productive for patients like me who have been un and underdiagnosed for years! Time to wake up!"

Dizziness, heart palpitations, extreme exhaustion. I am going back to levo as my labs were horrible on NP - elevated T3, but the rest low. No more of this horrid drug."

For Hashimoto's disease "My endo told me in June of this year that Armour had stopped working for her patients. I continued on it, I trusted Armour. It has been around forever. Big mistake. I have had inconsistent dosing that made me hypo, which showed on labs and labs that showed my hyper. I had inconsistent dosing in bottles where I'd take a pill and feel fine, another hypo, another like I'd taken speed. Symptoms were terrifying: anxiety, anxiety attacks, racing heartbeat, palpitations, hot flashes, irregular periods, spotting, hot flashes, migraines, dizziness, high cortisol had to be tested for Cushing's-negative, thank goodness-high blood pressure, panic attacks, insomnia, agitation, inability to handle stress of any kind, hair fall, vision problems, nausea with the migraines, all sorts of digestive issues including food intolerances and diarrhea. I've been in fight or flight for months. I was switched to Levoxyl. My last labs on Armour were normal, but I had all the above symptoms."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was put on Armour after NP Thyroid recall, they never told anyone they changed their formulation. NP Thyroid made me really sick. Even though I took my meds every morning, I ended up with a TSH of 19. I switched to Armour and was doing fine until last year in December when I started having racing heartbeat, palpitations, insomnia, cortisol spikes, vision changes, diarrhea, chest pain, tightness in my back, neck, shoulders, digestive issues, and hot flashes. Irregular periods, really bad anxiety, and even a panic attack. My TSH has been all over the place like a yo-yo. One month it's suppressed, the next it's in the 1's, then it jumps to the 3's, and then drops back down again. If my TSH is doing all that, you know my free T3 and T4 are all over the place too. One day I'd take my meds and feel fine, two days later, anxiety and complete instability. I ended up on blood pressure medications to control the racing heartbeat. My endo said a few months back that Armour had stopped working for people."

For Hashimoto's disease "Armour Thyroid 60 mg was okay for about 3 months, then I got edema in my feet and hands. Paresthesia in my leg and face. Horrible nerve problems with trembling, shaking hands. I was dizzy and very depressed, hair loss, weight gain, tiredness, sweating, crying, vision problems-couldn’t drive, freezing. I couldn’t function. All my hypo symptoms were worse than ever. Emergency carpal tunnel surgery. Heart palpitations, high blood pressure. I reduced and then stopped, and symptoms started to go away. Back to Synthroid and am a work in progress again. 5 endo docs and none helped me. They just look at TSH. Good luck, everyone. Stay away from Armour, and Nature Thyroid was just as bad. All my scans and blood work normal. Good luck, everyone."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I kept feeling bloated at the top part of my tummy. I had heart palpitations, then realized that they changed my medication from Armour Thyroid to NP Thyroid. I actually just stopped taking it. I know I probably shouldn't, but with COVID-19 and no doctor's appointment in sight, I just wanted to feel better, and I do! I thought I'd start taking Armour again and called the doctor's office, and much to my surprise, they called it in. I checked online with the pharmacy, and it's NP Thyroid! OMG, are you kidding me? I have to call the pharmacy tomorrow and see about changing to Armour again. Geesh! I used to take NP fine until several months ago."

For Underactive Thyroid "A year ago, this month, I was suddenly finding it difficult to get NP Thyroid 30 mg. I started getting it easier through a different pharmacy. In October, I noticed a lot of little purple spots on the back of my hands. I’ve continued getting them here and there on my arms and hands. As well, I had strong heart palpitations that would sometimes make me feel faint. I had my heart checked out twice, but nothing explained the palpitations. Add to all that, I noticed my upper abdomen was feeling bloated. I was also feeling tired and anxious. Something wasn’t right. A few nights ago, something made me decide to research NP Thyroid medication, and I was shocked to see some of the side effects people were having. I quit taking it, and already, no more little purple spots! After a year of seeing them pop up here and there on my arms and hands - gone. I’m wondering if I have damaged my health taking it for a year. Don’t take this medicine!"

For Thyroid Cancer "I had 3 types of thyroid cancer 22 years ago, so had a thyroidectomy/isthmusectomy and have 1 parathyroid left. I was put on Synthroid for 22 years, then became toxic to it. New endocrinologist put me on Tirosint, it was great at first, all bad symptoms of Synthroid disappeared, then started having the negative side effect of always sleeping and felt numb emotionally. Switched to Armour Thyroid and even worse, I'm not sleepy anymore, but now I'm 'always' nauseated, can't eat, shaking, thirsty all the time, gastric upset, stomach ache, muscle fatigue like I've never experienced, palpitations back but not as bad as when on the Synthroid medicine, S.O.B. on exertion. I was put on 90 of Armour Thyroid, now 75 (one 60 and one 15)."
