For Underactive Thyroid "I started Armour Thyroid 60 mg about 2 months ago, and what has unfolded has been absolutely terrible. While my thyroid levels went up and I lost 10 lbs, I also had serious side effects including debilitating fatigue, tremors, anxiety, heart palpitations, syncope, and vision problems. I went downhill so fast doctors were convinced I had a pituitary tumor, which according to the MRI I don’t. I took myself off the medication, and I have slowly begun to feel more like myself again. My sister took Armour Thyroid before it was reformulated and loved it, she even went to Canada to get it when it was no longer available in the US. When it did become available, she got it right away and had terrible side effects as well. She went off it and now takes ERFA and is happy with it."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I was diagnosed with 2 thyroid nodules in Sep 2019. My endo immediately recommended total removal. Said the nodules would eventually obstruct my ability to swallow and breathe. Oh yeah, the biopsy was non-cancerous. Had the surgery in Oct 2019. Since then, my life has been a roller coaster of symptoms and problems: digestive, muscle aches and pains, vision, anxiety, and depression. I was started on Levothyroxine 137 mcg. Did not work. Switched to Synthroid 137 mcg. After one month, the doc added Cytomel (T3) 25 mcg. Had palpitations right after I started taking it. Was told to take half the T3 pill. Now I developed acid reflux problems and was prescribed Protonix. Feel tired all day, nauseous, lightheaded with a metallic taste in my mouth. Lastly, my labs keep coming back perfect. I am so desperate. I want to try Armour Thyroid but am afraid of the unknown. Thoughts? I need help. I’m 50 years old and the sole breadwinner of my family."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Levothyroxine for over 20 years. My friend encouraged me to try Nature-Throid. Found a doctor who wrote the prescription. The dosage he prescribed was 1 1/2 grains of Nature-Throid. I was on 100 mcg of Levothyroxine. I started to feel bad and had heart palpitations. I went online and found a conversion chart. It said 1 grain of Nature-Throid equals 100 mcg of Levothyroxine. I cut my dosage to 1 grain. I must admit my joints no longer hurt. I’ve lost weight. However, I continue to have palpitations. My heart rate went up to 113 and blood pressure increased. I have been on it for 3 months. Regretfully, I must go back on Levothyroxine. My heart is more important!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on levothyroxine for over 2 years and had constant palpitations, anxiety, and heat intolerance. Thyroid levels were WNL [within normal limits], saw a new endo who let me discontinue because my initial TSH was under 10. After 3 months of no meds, I had zero energy and all of my muscles and joints hurt. Started NP Thyroid, and I feel so much better, but I am gaining weight, about 6 lbs so far and don't seem to be plateauing."

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been taking Levoxyl brand, not the generic, for about 10 years for my hypothyroidism with no side effects. Synthroid and Armour both didn't agree with me... Synthroid gave me heart palpitations - at one point I thought I was having a heart attack! And Armour, OMG, the stench every time I opened the bottle made me want to hurl."

For Underactive Thyroid "Today, I suddenly found out that Nature-Throid medication has been recalled and is no longer available. I've been on it for over a year. However, after reading about the recall, it makes me wonder how long the subpotency has actually occurred because my last TSH values in Feb 2020 were higher than they have been in a long time. I have a lot of symptoms of hypo: constipation, hair loss, brittle nails, fatigue, brain fog, dry skin, etc. However, when my doctor tried to up the dose to the next highest, I had horrible heart palpitations. I'm scared and concerned because I have so many allergies and intolerances. This medication contained no excipients that caused me issues. The only one available like it is Tirosint, which only contains T4. My doctor called it in, and it's not covered by insurance, so I have to go through a specialty pharmacy. I am so angry."

For Underactive Thyroid "I had been on Levothyroxine for 10 years, but in the last 4 years, I had been struggling. There was even one occasion where I was hospitalized for heart palpitations, and come to find out my thyroid was all messed up. I had been on 150 mcg for two years but started to notice my skin, hair, nails, and of course weight was off (weird weight gain, no diet changes). I moved and started a new doctor who recommended NP Thyroid. She started me on 90 mg. The first two weeks, I noticed a rapid heartbeat, but nothing scary. By week three, I felt like a superwoman and had my normal energy back! After four weeks, I finally feel better!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I started BHRT and Thyroid NP (60 mg) at the same time. Nine days after starting, had to call an ambulance because I thought I was having a heart attack or stroking out... horrible chest pressure, uncontrollable shaking, heart palpitations, dizziness, pain shooting up into my neck and jaw, left arm numbness. I told my doc that I think I had a reaction to this medication, but she didn’t think it likely. She told me to reduce the dosage of this and then increase it every couple of weeks. Started back at 15 mg, then 30 mg, and now 45 mg. Have been feeling like rubbish... mood swings, irritability, fatigue, and more recently really bad anxiety. Thought it was my hormones trying to balance out. Was getting frustrated because I thought the BHRT was supposed to make me feel better, but I just felt like rubbish all the time. Now I realize it may have been this medication this whole time causing me problems!!! Going to stop taking it. Very healthy and athletic prior to taking this. Now I feel like a mess."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I began NP a couple of weeks ago. The third day, I developed bad headaches and was dizzy. This past weekend, my BP soared and I began having heart palpitations. I stopped it today, and this evening I am beginning to improve. I will never take NP again."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have used Armour Thyroid for over 15 years. Works great for me. About 8 years ago, was given Armour thyroid generic, and it gave me heart palpitations, and I immediately went back to regular Armour. Insurance or Medicare won’t pay for it, but I will take nothing else."

For Underactive Thyroid "Took Synthroid from age 29-50. Felt okay but had osteoporosis on a bone scan. I was told Synthroid caused the osteoporosis. Started on Armour thyroid and felt fine with normal labs. My osteoporosis reversed to osteopenia. Went to a new doctor in 2021 (age 69) who refused to prescribe natural thyroid. Started back on Levothyroxine. I now feel terrible. Not sleeping, short of breath, weight gain, jittery, palpitations. My dose was lowered from 137 to 75 mcg. Still don't feel good. Finding a doctor to start natural thyroid again. My particular bottles of natural thyroid were never on the recall list. Synthetic thyroid is cost-free for me. Natural stuff not covered. I have one half of my thyroid due to partial removal at age 28. Rating below is for WP or NP thyroid."
