For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I've been on Armour Thyroid for 4 months or so, and I've lost no weight, and I'm tired all the time, also gained weight. Having hot flashes and night sweats, and I've been feeling dizzy. My TSH is low along with my T3 and T4. It's time to switch medicines once again. I've been on 2 other medicines, and nothing is helping me. I'm so frustrated. I need some help, anyone know of a better medicine out there?"

For Underactive Thyroid "Due to low thyroid, was on Armour 60 mg for 1 year. My numbers were good, 2-4; however, it is expensive. Wanted to try NP Thyroid, less expensive, 1 less filler. Went on it for 3 months, went in for lab work. NP had not worked; my number was back to 45, the level I was on before I started thyroid meds. Now I have to go back to Armour 90 mg to work towards a normal range. On NP, felt lethargic, fell asleep in the afternoon, gained 8 lbs."

For Underactive Thyroid "After I gained 60 lbs in a 3-month period approximately 8 years ago, it was determined that I had hypothyroidism. I was given Synthroid, which stopped the weight gain, however, I have never felt quite right, even though my TSH and T3/T4 would be normal. My hands and feet were always cold, my eyebrows were very thin, I was always tired, etc. I started taking Armour Thyroid about 4 months ago and feel terrific. I have even started losing weight (15 lbs so far). I am worried that I have been having problems trying to fill my prescription lately. Please tell me that they are not going to discontinue Armour Thyroid? I am getting several different explanations as to why it is not readily available."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Armour Thyroid for many years. Pharmacy recommended NP because of the price difference, so switched me to NP, and I noticed extreme flu-like symptoms, headaches, hair loss, insomnia, swelling (even facial swelling), all-over body pain, and constant exhaustion. I asked to be switched back to Armour after a month of misery on NP, and to please make note on my account to NEVER give me NP again because of the terrible reactions. After new blood work, I unknowingly was given NP again and took it without realizing that it wasn’t Armour. My life became a living nightmare! The anxiety attacks have been awful. My nails break easily, hair falls out in alarming amounts, continuous dull headaches accompanied by brain fog that has been very concerning. The feeling of exhaustion is unbelievable, and I cannot sleep. Joint pain, miserable indigestion and reflux, profuse sweating, inflammation, and muscle aches. My energy is ZERO, and the crying makes me feel crazy! NP Thyroid is HORRIBLE!!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking Armour in November 2015. The first couple of days, I felt more tired. But after 4-5 days, I wasn't tired throughout the day. I lost 6 lbs in that month. But then, when I started my refill, all the weight came right back on. Is it possible for a whole batch to be bad? Or did my body regulate to that dose?"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on some form of thyroid for 20 years. First I was on Armour, then Synthroid. But what changed all that was my thyroid cancer diagnosis 6 months ago. They kept me on Synthroid and never told me there was a difference. It seems to me that you need T4 and T3, which Armour provides. I felt so achy after my surgery. Every day my body hurt, and I was so tired and absent-minded. Also, I have had weight gain. Went to a different doctor last week and have switched to Armour. We shall see. The main difference I feel so far is less body aches. That is wonderful to me!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been on Armour for over 3 months now, and my TSH and T4 levels are only getting worse. I go to the doctor every 3 weeks to have my blood drawn, and there has been no improvement! Every time I go to the doctor, they keep having to up the dosage to 30 mg, and each increase I feel worse and worse. My hair has fallen out, I feel lethargic and achy all over, I can't sleep at night, and when I finally do get to sleep, I wind up staying in bed for 13 hours! I have no energy."

For Underactive Thyroid "Please be careful with this medication. I am barely putting it all together this morning. I was on NatureThroid for a while. I lost weight but was jittery. So my doc changed me to NP Thyroid. For 3 months, I noticed I was starting to gain weight and became extremely tired in the afternoon but thought nothing of it. Then I had my prescription refilled on 1/27, and on 1/31 everything came crashing down. I woke to my body buzzing like slight electrocution. My anxiety went through the roof, ringing in my ears (like loud buzzing), inability to focus, complete insomnia. I would wake at 12:45 every night extremely hot like a hot flash and couldn't go back to sleep (thyroid regulates body temperature). I was a zombie! I took myself off this stuff and am recovering SLOWLY because it screwed with my adrenals too. Thyroid and adrenals are linked. Awaiting blood test results to see where to go next."

For Hashimoto's disease "Armour Thyroid 60 mg was okay for about 3 months, then I got edema in my feet and hands. Paresthesia in my leg and face. Horrible nerve problems with trembling, shaking hands. I was dizzy and very depressed, hair loss, weight gain, tiredness, sweating, crying, vision problems-couldn’t drive, freezing. I couldn’t function. All my hypo symptoms were worse than ever. Emergency carpal tunnel surgery. Heart palpitations, high blood pressure. I reduced and then stopped, and symptoms started to go away. Back to Synthroid and am a work in progress again. 5 endo docs and none helped me. They just look at TSH. Good luck, everyone. Stay away from Armour, and Nature Thyroid was just as bad. All my scans and blood work normal. Good luck, everyone."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Armour Thyroid as was doing okay. Not great, but certainly better than when I was on Synthroid. Then my pharmacy changed my prescription to NP Thyroid from ACE without telling me, and I have been horribly sick to my stomach, headaches, exhausted, confused, and foggy-brained. No medicine is worth this."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started on Armour 2 months ago. I was on levothyroxine for 3 months. I feel like my fogginess is gone (I call it being airheaded:). I'm still in the beginning phase, but has anyone lost any weight on these pills??? I watch my diet and exercise (hired 2 different trainers), but have been stuck on my weight. I feel heavy and tired. Supposedly, I'm 25-30 pounds overweight. I know if I lose weight, it will help with my energy. I'm supposed to do blood work next week. If my numbers are normal, I think I may try to do a full hormone blood panel test and pay out of pocket."

For Underactive Thyroid "There is a level of inconsistency in its quality and in its potency. I have tried taking it in different ways. Starting with swallowing it (caused immediate bloating). Tried it sublingually and finally crushing it. Again, I have found some difference in the way it crushes. Some are crumbly (more potent) and some are sticky (same batch). One whole box was totally useless. I didn't realize this immediately. Side effects kept increasing with each dose, and I kept feeling tired, nauseated, and lacked energy. This effect wore off 4-5 hours after taking the pill and felt almost back to normal. I opened a new batch and things improved within 2 days...less side effects and more energy levels. Other side effect is a sweet taste. I will try a different brand."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was taking Levoxyl for 12 years and doing fine. Then went into another Hashitoxicosis due to either progression of Hashimoto’s or extreme stress. After several months of trying to get my thyroid stable again, it finally started to level out with Levoxyl. My Dr. suggested I try Armour, so I did. HUGE mistake!! From the first day I took it, I felt something was off, and I only took it for 7 days - depressed, nauseous, low pulse, tired, felt cold, allergic reaction with fever blisters, itchy rash, and swollen eyes. On the 7th day, I started having seizures, extreme severe anxiety, depressed, I felt like it was causing a mental issue/breakdown/extreme nervousness and fear. I NEVER had seizures or anxiety or depression before the Armour. My TSH increased rapidly, and T4 decreased just two weeks after I started taking it. Went back to Levoxyl. Three months later, and I’m still having anxiety and trying to recover from the extreme damage it caused."

For Underactive Thyroid "WP Thyroid last year. Did okay. Just refilled, and what happened? I take it now, and within an hour I crash! Like taking a sleeping pill instead of NDT. So unhappy. Stopped for several days. Started again today. Forgot about the symptoms, then got slammed again, wondered, 'Why am I so tired!!??' Looked at the clock and realized I had restarted WP an hour before. Shame on RLC! The ratio of T3 to T4 was changed!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Synthroid for about 15 years, it made my hair fall out, and I was always exhausted. I told my endocrine doc, and he told me that it wasn’t the Synthroid, it was my Hashimoto's :-( Fast forward to two years ago, I moved and got a new doctor and hairdresser. The hairdresser asked me how long I’d been on Synthroid, I told him 15 years. He said to get on a natural NP Thyroid. I did and immediately felt better, and my hair came in thick and shiny!"

For Underactive Thyroid "BEWARE! I don't know how this medication gets so many good reviews. I guess I must be one of the few that this has not helped one bit. I have hypothyroidism and started with Synthroid. I didn't like it all that much and started researching for an alternative and asked my Dr. if I could switch. I thought Armour would be a more natural and better approach to my issue. BIG MISTAKE. This medication does zero for me, it's like not taking anything at all, but you are paying for pills that do nothing. I took this medicine for 4 months because I thought it might take a little extra time to get the benefits everyone raves about. In the course of those months, my hair started falling, my skin was/is looking awful, I felt cold all the time, I have gained weight regardless of what I do, I felt tired every day, I couldn't sleep. I switched to a different brand of porcine thyroid med that does not have great reviews online, but works."

For Thyroid Cancer "I also have been feeling bloated, tired, and pain in my chest and arm. I thought it was because of my recent surgery after Easter. I started to smell the smell of cat urine while taking my pill and thought it was weird because I never realized it before. I googled recalls on these NP 330 thyroid pills and found this site. Thank God! This is probably why I am not feeling well lately. I tried calling the company Acella, but they haven't returned my calls yet, so I just called the FDA. 888-463-6332. I explained the situation and mentioned this site, plus told her to look herself, not sure if she will. Anyway, she said that anyone that is, or has had issues needs to fill out a form called MedWatch. This is the way to get them to investigate. Thanks, everyone! Let's help others that aren't aware."

For Underactive Thyroid "I am on 60 mg of Armour. I was on Cytomel and felt better. My numbers got worse, so my doctor switched me to Armour. It's okay, but I still can't lose those 10 lbs. that I want to, and I've never had a hard time losing weight. I get really tired at night too. I like the idea of Armour since it's been around for so long, but I just wish I could lose this weight and have a little more energy at night."

For Underactive Thyroid "A year ago, this month, I was suddenly finding it difficult to get NP Thyroid 30 mg. I started getting it easier through a different pharmacy. In October, I noticed a lot of little purple spots on the back of my hands. I’ve continued getting them here and there on my arms and hands. As well, I had strong heart palpitations that would sometimes make me feel faint. I had my heart checked out twice, but nothing explained the palpitations. Add to all that, I noticed my upper abdomen was feeling bloated. I was also feeling tired and anxious. Something wasn’t right. A few nights ago, something made me decide to research NP Thyroid medication, and I was shocked to see some of the side effects people were having. I quit taking it, and already, no more little purple spots! After a year of seeing them pop up here and there on my arms and hands - gone. I’m wondering if I have damaged my health taking it for a year. Don’t take this medicine!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Was diagnosed as hypothyroid and started immediately on Armour. Actually gained weight on it, despite a strict diet and exercise. Always felt very bloated in the abdomen while taking it and still felt tired. During the time I was on it, they reformulated it, and I felt even worse. Switched over to a combination of Levoxyl and Cytomel. Felt more energetic and even lost a bit of the weight. Armour may work well for some, but it just didn't do anything for me."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on NP Thyroid for 6 months. I was told it was better than Levo. It seemed to work the first few months, the last couple of months, I have been extremely tired, severe joint pain, and occasional flu symptoms. Just out of curiosity, my wife looked up the side effects, and after that, I quit using it, and in a few days, I am feeling better. This stuff is garbage."

For Underactive Thyroid "I hate this medication. I keep trying to get the pharmacy to switch me back to the Armour Thyroid, but they won't. They claim this is the generic. On NP Thyroid, I feel tired all the time and have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. My hair is falling out again in clumps, and my weight loss is stalled. I used to be on WP Thyroid before they had manufacturing issues and loved it, but I can't get on it anymore. I think I may have my doctor switch me to Nature-Throid or move my prescription to another pharmacy because I'm tired of feeling tired and lethargic all the time."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been taking Armour for 1 1/2 years, lost 13 pounds, I do not need to lose weight, I feel too thin now. My joints ache, one knee has swollen, feeling tired. I also noticed that having one beer or cocktail leaves me very ill the next day. T3 level is low, so my doctor said to try two 60 mg a day (one morning/night)."

For Thyroid Cancer "I had my thyroid removed due to cancer 9 years ago. The doctor initially put me on Synthroid in various dosages, which didn't work, then levothyroxine, which also did not work. It took about a year before we all agreed my body was not absorbing it for some reason. A miserable year. I wasn't sure I would ever get to be 'me' again. I was always exhausted, sad, lost my temper to a degree it was scary, and everything took a lot of effort. Depression had certainly set in, and I had not experienced that before. Finally, a neighbor told me about Armour, so I asked for it. Don't believe the Synthroid smear campaign. This stuff works and is cheap! I alternate two strengths daily, and a 30-day supply from Costco is about $35."
