Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I started Armour Thyroid 60 mg about 2 months ago, and what has unfolded has been absolutely terrible. While my thyroid levels went up and I lost 10 lbs, I also had serious side effects including debilitating fatigue, tremors, anxiety, heart palpitations, syncope, and vision problems. I went downhill so fast doctors were convinced I had a pituitary tumor, which according to the MRI I don’t. I took myself off the medication, and I have slowly begun to feel more like myself again. My sister took Armour Thyroid before it was reformulated and loved it, she even went to Canada to get it when it was no longer available in the US. When it did become available, she got it right away and had terrible side effects as well. She went off it and now takes ERFA and is happy with it."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Synthroid did not help: zero improvement in quality of life and bad side effects. Have been through all possible medications, none helped, same story as Synthroid. Am now on Armour, 3 grains. Doesn't help at all and gives me side effects: weight gain, hair loss, difficulty sleeping, hyperpigmentation, no patella reflex, brain fog, extreme fatigue, etc. In fact, I feel better, and most of the signs/symptoms are lessened if I take *nothing*, even though my TSH is 90 and my T4 and T3 are undetectable (i.e., no T3 nor T4 in my body). I overwhelmingly prefer taking nothing as that gives me the best quality of life (albeit a pretty poor quality of life). I take medication, Armour, (and suffer) only because my doctors insist that I take medication."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "The quality of NP is poor. Hypothyroidism - thyroid not working at all. Switched to NP because Armour’s price shot up with my provider. It took a month to realize that it was causing my eyebrows to thin, my skin to be bad again, and my moods to be all over the place. I’m very weepy. I don’t have a lot of energy. It is supposed to be the same formulation, but if it is, why would I experience this? I have a lot of NP and have been adding an extra pill each day. It helps a little, but I don’t even think that’s enough. I’m unable to concentrate and I just want to sleep! I’m switching back as soon as I run out, and my insurance provider will cover the next prescription. They won’t cover the switch right now because I have a 3-month supply of NP."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "It smelled and tasted like cat urine. I began having headaches, fatigue, and joint pain within a three-week period. I called Acella Pharmaceuticals and complained and requested a refund. They have a do-not-refund policy, which essentially means that they don't guarantee their product. My doctor wrote me a prescription for Armour, and my symptoms subsided within a month. Life lesson for me. Never again will I purchase NP Thyroid medication."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "5 months ago, I refilled my thyroid meds, which at the time I thought were Armour Thyroid, which I have been taking for years. Probably a week after, I wasn’t feeling well at all. I hurt all over. My legs got heavy and hurt anytime I was active. I kept getting the chills, headaches, and very fatigued. My joints and shoulders hurt. I had blood work done to see if it was my kidneys. I felt like I had a pelvic infection, and some days I felt like I had the flu. I looked online to see if there was a recall on Armour, and NP Thyroid came up, that some lots were recalled because of super potency. I then looked at my bottle, and it said NP Thyroid. My doctor never prescribed that. Today is the first day I haven’t taken it, and I already feel a little better. I’m so upset to see all the complaints. Please make sure you know what you are taking, and they have Armour in stock. If my doctor changed it, I probably wouldn’t have gone through all this for five months. He would have told me."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I started taking NP Thyroid in June. For the first week, I felt great, but then I started to notice some of the pills had a terrible odor, and the taste was worse. I have cats, and they smelled like cat urine, as well as my urine. Not every pill had the odor, but the ones that did, that I took, caused me terrible stomach cramps. Then, as time went on, my hair loss was terrible, constipation was 5 days, anxiety, depression, severe fatigue, it all came back as well as hot flashes. I let my doctor know, and he wanted me to have blood work before he made any changes, so after 5 weeks, I had blood work. I got it back, and my T3 was high, TSH low, and T4 was good. Before the blood work, I had blood work done, and the levels I just mentioned were all in range. I stopped it immediately. Unfortunately, my doctor is on vacation, so I can't get any meds like LDN, which worked wonders for me in the past. I am so exhausted I can barely function. I would not recommend this medication to anyone."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I have taken Armour Thyroid for years. I picked up my refill prescription from Kroger pharmacy and didn’t notice that I received NP Thyroid. Called the pharmacy and was told that the computer said generic and not Armour. It smells awful. Since I paid $70.00 for a 90-day supply, I thought I would just start out taking one every other day and still take Armour so my body could adjust. On the days I am taking NP, I am feeling okay until about 10:00 AM, then have a headache and am so fatigued I can’t get anything done. My body is aching too. I’m going to the pharmacy and getting my money returned."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "NP caused my heart to race and anxiety to happen. Never in my life did I have anxiety, so that was a real surprise. Fatigue never went away. Now that it has been recalled, I don't know what Dr. will put me on."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "I was on levothyroxine for over 2 years and had constant palpitations, anxiety, and heat intolerance. Thyroid levels were WNL [within normal limits], saw a new endo who let me discontinue because my initial TSH was under 10. After 3 months of no meds, I had zero energy and all of my muscles and joints hurt. Started NP Thyroid, and I feel so much better, but I am gaining weight, about 6 lbs so far and don't seem to be plateauing."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "Today, I suddenly found out that Nature-Throid medication has been recalled and is no longer available. I've been on it for over a year. However, after reading about the recall, it makes me wonder how long the subpotency has actually occurred because my last TSH values in Feb 2020 were higher than they have been in a long time. I have a lot of symptoms of hypo: constipation, hair loss, brittle nails, fatigue, brain fog, dry skin, etc. However, when my doctor tried to up the dose to the next highest, I had horrible heart palpitations. I'm scared and concerned because I have so many allergies and intolerances. This medication contained no excipients that caused me issues. The only one available like it is Tirosint, which only contains T4. My doctor called it in, and it's not covered by insurance, so I have to go through a specialty pharmacy. I am so angry."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I started BHRT and Thyroid NP (60 mg) at the same time. Nine days after starting, had to call an ambulance because I thought I was having a heart attack or stroking out... horrible chest pressure, uncontrollable shaking, heart palpitations, dizziness, pain shooting up into my neck and jaw, left arm numbness. I told my doc that I think I had a reaction to this medication, but she didn’t think it likely. She told me to reduce the dosage of this and then increase it every couple of weeks. Started back at 15 mg, then 30 mg, and now 45 mg. Have been feeling like rubbish... mood swings, irritability, fatigue, and more recently really bad anxiety. Thought it was my hormones trying to balance out. Was getting frustrated because I thought the BHRT was supposed to make me feel better, but I just felt like rubbish all the time. Now I realize it may have been this medication this whole time causing me problems!!! Going to stop taking it. Very healthy and athletic prior to taking this. Now I feel like a mess."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Terrible med. Unbeknownst to me, the pharmacy gave it to me in the place of Armour, which I have been taking for years and works great. I took NP Acella for about a month and a half, and all of my symptoms came back with a vengeance. I gained weight, became fatigued and depressed, started losing hair, couldn't sleep at night, had brain fog, etc. Went back to Armour and was fine again. If I could, I would give NP Thyroid Acella a 0. Also, I wish pharmacists warned us when they replace a prescription."

For Hashimoto's disease "Started Naturethroid after seven years on Levoxyl and Cytomel, with unrelenting fatigue, migraines, constipation, and feeling cold all the time. Initially felt great on the Naturethroid. But after two weeks, started to have headaches again. Then developed diarrhea that lasted for two weeks. It was a nightmare. Went off of it and went back to the synthetics. So disappointed that it caused this reaction. These natural meds are not necessarily the perfect solution that they are portrayed to be, even if they do work for some."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Switched from other brand after moving to a naturopath Dr. to help with my Hashimoto's. I really would not recommend Thyroid NP. For the last 2 years, I’ve had stomach burning, enough to make me think it was an ulcer, and loss of eyebrows and hair on my head, absolutely zero energy, leg aches, weight gain, and a massively foggy brain as of lately… I’ve been off for 3 days, and I can already feel the difference. Leaving my naturopath and heading back to my regular Dr. for Synthroid. I didn’t connect the dots until recently. And this stuff is not regulated well, it had 3 recalls in the last year… that’s not good."
