For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have taken levothyroxine as well as Armour and felt completely run down on both. More so on the Levo. I moved to Nature Throid from Levo about 2 years ago and really started to get my energy back. Last year there was a shortage on Nature Throid and I had to go to Armour, back to feeling like I couldn't lift my head off the pillow. Thankfully Nature is back in stock, and I am doing much better. Hopefully, this will help others who may be struggling with their current meds."

For Hashimoto's disease "I've been on Armour forever, but in the last year, I found my dosage going up to 150 plus Liothyronine at 30 mcg/day and all of these horrible symptoms coming back and new ones that I at first thought were lifestyle-induced due to a career change and a move. That was until I found out that Forrester Laboratories was bought out by Allergan in 2015, and the same issues from the 2008-2009 reformulation are being reported in mass numbers...everything from lab issues, high increases in dosages, chronic fatigue, vision issues, skyrocketing co-pays to hair loss, etc. I checked my bottles this weekend and realized that they all read Forrester/Allergan and will be researching new natural options and speaking with my doctor on Monday!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I started taking NP Thyroid in March 2019 after 20 years on Synthroid. Once my dosage was correct, I began to feel so great. I felt like I was actually a functioning human being again. And then I got the 'new' batch in October and immediately felt terrible. I had zero energy, could barely walk down the stairs, deep hip pain. I examined the pills, and they looked different (speckles) and smelled terrible (now smelled like cat pee, instead of just kind of unpleasant). Thankfully, I had some of my old batch left and resumed taking that and immediately talked to my doctor about switching to a synthetic T4/T3 combo so this wouldn't happen again. I've been on the new meds for 5 days and not feeling well yet. Not sure if it's from the doses of bad NP I took or just getting used to new meds. This is just heartbreaking. So many people having terrible reactions to the 'new' formula while Acella is saying basically that it's all in our heads. I just want to feel better."

For Underactive Thyroid "Started taking NP Thyroid about 3 weeks ago. I was taking WP Thyroid due to recall, no longer available. I have chronic Lyme and co-infections. I've been feeling a lot better lately. About 2 weeks ago, I started feeling very anxious, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, severely depressed, brain fog, muscle pain/aches, and the list is endless. I really thought it was one of my co-infections coming back. Paid $580 to get tested for it, and I was negative. Couldn't figure out what was causing all of this until I Googled NP Thyroid, it smells like cat pee. I will no longer be taking it. I don't know what to change it to, I see my doc on Monday, I hope to get it sorted. Please don't touch this stuff."

For Hashimoto's disease "I stopped taking NP Thyroid after my symptoms got the best of me. Aches, dry eyes, fatigue. When I called Acella, they said, 'batches can be different, but the standards are the same.' I told them to raise the bar. Their new 'batch' smells horrible, tastes even worse, has a different size and look, and makes me feel worse than ever. How can that be acceptable?"

For Underactive Thyroid "Was doing well on Naturethroid, up until they seemed to change the formula. So switched to NP. Fatigue okay, but brain fog much worse, painful joints, stiffness in muscles, and leg pain that feels similar to restless legs. The worst symptom though is headaches-constant. Am now experimenting with altering my dose (again!), but I’ll have to swap to Armour, I think. I’m in the U.K. Getting hold of NDT is like finding a unicorn. I despair. I wish Naturethroid had never changed. I know they deny a reformulation, but it worked like a dream for me before their manufacturing issues, and I felt well. Now I’m back in the hypo pit, and it’s dreadful."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was prescribed Armour Thyroid after trying Synthroid and finding out it didn't work for me. With Synthroid, I actually felt worse: nausea, no appetite, even more tired, but Armour Thyroid was such a relief and made me feel normal again. It made my hair stop falling out at such an alarming rate and helped my weight stabilize. I actually have energy to do things now! I have been told by my pharmacist though that Armour Thyroid is no longer being made. I have to try to switch to another natural thyroid medication, and I'm not sure what my doctor will be giving me. I hope my testimonial on the effectiveness of this medication, in combination with everyone else's, might show how good this medication is and bring it back."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "On Synthroid for a year post-subtotal thyroidectomy in 2002, gained 17 lbs in just a few months, hair fell out, felt miserable. Switched to Armour in 2003 and got my life and health back. Compounded thyroid is cheaper, so I started using that with no issues until last year, when I was no longer able to get my compounded thyroid as I'm now in the U.K., which only compounds thyroid for animals, not humans. Back on Armour last year and the weight started creeping back up, fatigue set in, cold at night, all the hypo symptoms came back despite my labs looking great. I put on 8 lbs in three months! Switched to Nature Throid and the weight is coming off again, and I feel normal. Forrest Pharma pulled a Martin Shkreli."

For Underactive Thyroid "NP Thyroid failed me and made me lose my baby. Or perhaps it was the pharmacy that switched my medication without informing me. I was on Armour for about 5 years, doing fine. Then I suddenly had a regression of all my hypo symptoms in about 2 weeks. The third week, I skipped a day, then took the pill. Within a few hours, I was fatigued, had headaches, joint pain, incredible water retention, and chest tightening... After doing this a second time, I knew for sure it was the medication. I then noticed that my med bottle said “NP Thyroid.” I called the pharmacy, and they said they had replaced Armour with NP 6 weeks before. They did not inform me! NP totally didn’t work at all for at least a month. And while I took this failure of a medication, my pregnancy failed because I had no functional thyroid hormone to sustain it. I found that NP costs cents while Armour does not. It’s a case of insurance companies trying to pay out less $$, even at the expense of real people’s health."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Will never take this rubbish again!!!! I have no thyroid and thought this would be a good med since it's natural, wrong!!!! Dizziness, heart palpitations, extreme exhaustion. I am going back to levo as my labs were horrible on NP - elevated T3, but the rest low. No more of this horrid drug."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "It took a full 15 months of treatment plus adding a low dose of an antidepressant and topical progesterone for me to see the full benefits of Armour. I became hypo shortly after menopause, experiencing severe fatigue, sleepiness, a 9 lb weight gain in spite of poor appetite and low calorie intake, dry thinning hair and nails, depression, coldness, no libido. My face took on the typical dull thyroid expression with pudgy features and the outer third of my eyebrows missing. I had high cholesterol, yet my TSH showed normal at 1.9. My GP just said to 'watch it' while I grew progressively worse. After 15 months on Armour, I've finally settled on the right dose and I feel young and great again!!"

For Underactive Thyroid "Have taken Armour thyroid for 45 years. Pharmacy switched me to Acella thyroid NP. After a couple of weeks, I realized something was wrong. Low energy and just slowed down. Pharmacist insisted that was Armour thyroid! My experience is that Acella thyroid is garbage and smells awful too."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was switched to NP Thyroid after Nature-Throid was recalled. I was doing really well on the Nature-Throid, but I tried to stay positive in taking this one. It smells and tastes disgusting. I noticed unexplained pain in my hip, constant indigestion, upset stomach, random diarrhea. Seven months in and my T3 is off the chart, T4 and TSH are super low, basically hyperthyroid. In the past month, I developed horrible anxiety, crying randomly and uncontrollably, trouble sleeping, and fatigue. I barely recognize myself. Had a complete breakdown in the middle of an exam. My professors are mad and think I'm somehow incompetent, although I kept trying to explain I didn't know what was going on. Finally went to the doctor and found out she had prescribed Armour, but my pharmacy was filling NP instead. I'm fighting with insurance to get Armour covered, but I can't continue with NP. My temporary dose of Armour already smells better than the NP. I'm praying this works, because I don't know what I'm gonna do if it doesn't."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Nature Throid for years and have felt great. My doctor switched me to NP after Nature Throid was recalled. I felt okay at first, and now symptoms are popping up: sore arms, depression, constipation, brain fog, weight gain, puffy skin, and fatigue. This medicine isn't consistent, and not to mention, it smells and tastes like pee. Stop recalling medicine that works for people for pharmaceutical benefit. It's wrong. This stuff is junk."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

For Hashimoto's disease "Been taking Nature-Throid (48.75 mg) for about 2 years now, and feel great as long as I also sleep well, manage my stress, and stay mostly on the Autoimmune Paleo diet. Have been playing around with diet and lifestyle, and if I eat certain things, I notice a rise in TSH, as well as symptoms (brain fog, low energy, and weight gain). I checked it by sticking to the AIP diet for 3 months, and my TSH went to normal range, and I felt normal. It’s not ideal, but worth it to feel good. Also, I always take meds on an empty stomach in the AM."

For Underactive Thyroid "Had been taking 120 mg of Armour Thyroid for years when the price shot up. I looked for an alternative and was on Nature-Thyroid and had no problems when suddenly it disappeared from the market. I went back to Armour but was sick of the price gouging and found NP Thyroid. I have been on it for a month now and have been an utter mess. The first week was fine, but then a sudden drop in general well-being. I cannot focus, constant fatigue, grogginess, barely able to function, balance is off... just generally horrible. Thankfully, I am able to get Nature-Thyroid again and am waiting for the new prescription to arrive. Once it does, NP is going in the trash. Avoid... avoid... avoid!!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I switched from Synthroid to Armour last year and felt better for the first couple of months. I've had an on-again, off-again scalp itch/rash that I could not figure out for the life of me. About 6 months into Armour, I was overwhelmed by all my symptoms: fatigue, depression, low libido, joint pain, and the scalp itch/rash just would not go away. My endo let me try a 30-day supply of Tirosint, and the rash went away, and I felt so much better. Just to test my theory, I went back to Armour after the 30 days. Very quickly, I realized it was DEFINITELY the Armour, and I'm going back to Tirosint. Armour is SO much cheaper, but not worth it!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been hypothyroid for 20 years. I can't tell you if this thyroid medicine is bad or not the same. I had horrible reactions to Synthroid, Armor NT, and now WP. I chose WP 6 years ago, and man do I feel like a rockstar! Weight loss was easy, mood, fatigue, skin, and hair loss all gone! Yes, I'm in agreement with everyone here since the recall, not only WP-NT as well, weight gain, thyroid numbers T3-4 FT3 low, RT3 high. Now my iron is off the charts, and I don't use iron since the shortage and here and there getting some last year, I'm a mess. When I spoke to my pharmacist when it aka ran out, he said they are making the drugs in China, really? What pig glandular are they getting??? I swear my iron is elevated from these meds. I never had this issue. I'll be back to report my experience with the GMO-free, grass-fed cows' bovine from New Zealand. Well, it's my turn, bye-bye thyroid meds. And a HUGE thank you to you all and thank you Drugs.com."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Walmart pharmacy substituted NP for Armour thyroid. It makes me very depressed, sleepless, and fatigued. It makes me angry because they did this without my permission after I told them before that I didn’t want NP because of the same issues before. I would avoid NP!!!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "Loved NP Thyroid but then started feeling really ill. Migraines, fatigue, nausea, joint pain, brain fog, etc. This was my lifesaver and now just horrible. My doctor switched me to medication from a compounding pharmacy. So disappointed in Acella Pharmaceuticals for changing what was a wonderful product."

For Underactive Thyroid "The newest lab tests show that my thyroid is way off, and I feel like something has gone wrong, starting the last few years. When I try to meditate/rest, every cell in my body is screaming at me that something is wrong. So, after a dozen doctors and lab tests, I changed MDs and switched off Nature-Throid. Email from 2017 regarding the issues I was having with my prescription for my thyroid. Nov 25, 2017, got one new bottle of RLC Nature-Throid, and I had some of the older RLC Nature-Throid from Rite Aid leftover, enough that I can taste a difference between the new bottle and the previous bottle from RLC Lab. I have been double-checking this for a week and noticing a difference: I noticed I have uncomfortable brain fog, lower energy. I was taking it as prescribed, 130 mg. I called RLC Lab and they changed to robots and had troubles."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was just diagnosed with underachieving thyroid. My labs have been low for quite some time. Trying to heal my leaky gut in hopes of getting my thyroid issues better. Well, after working on it for 6 months with a Functional Medicine NP, it wasn't better, so I just started Armour 30mg. Today is day 1 for me. Hoping many of the symptoms I suffer will get better. I really don't want to be on this. The symptoms I have are early a.m. waking, low sex drive and anorgasmia, cold but sweating, fatigue, muscle loss, muscle weakness, dry skin, thinning hair."

For Underactive Thyroid "My hair began to fall within a month of starting Nature-Throid. I had not been on any thyroid meds prior, and although I have stopped taking Nature-Throid, I have lost about 3/4 of my hair in less than 6 months with zero signs of slowing down. Have cut out inflammatory foods and supplementing as per my naturopath, but to no avail. Still fatigued, leg cramps, irritable (all symptoms prior to meds), and now hair loss. Never again, and I regret taking Nature-Throid."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Armour since October '13. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I have steadily gained weight ever since I started-20 lbs. It has not helped with my cold hands or feet, dry skin, or fatigue. My hair has stopped falling out so badly, but that is about the only good thing I can say about this. Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but I've had a serious worsening of lower back pain since starting this."
