For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Armour for almost 20 years with no issues. My June 2021 refill triggered incredible anxiety and irritability, increased heart rate, heat intolerance (and I worked in heat and was acclimated to it). Like others posting reviews, I also noted jaw clenching and tooth grinding. In August 2021, I was hospitalized for an arrhythmia the doctors told me was from being overmedicated. Armour changed, either due to supply chain problems or to save money or both. I can no longer trust it and switched to levothyroxine/cytomel."

For Underactive Thyroid "Started taking NP Thyroid about 3 weeks ago. I was taking WP Thyroid due to recall, no longer available. I have chronic Lyme and co-infections. I've been feeling a lot better lately. About 2 weeks ago, I started feeling very anxious, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, severely depressed, brain fog, muscle pain/aches, and the list is endless. I really thought it was one of my co-infections coming back. Paid $580 to get tested for it, and I was negative. Couldn't figure out what was causing all of this until I Googled NP Thyroid, it smells like cat pee. I will no longer be taking it. I don't know what to change it to, I see my doc on Monday, I hope to get it sorted. Please don't touch this stuff."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Like most with the WP/Naturethroid shortage, was switched to this drug back in 2017. On it 4 months; 120 mg/2 grains in the am, and 30 mg/a half grain in the afternoon. Managed to get back on Naturethroid right when it became available again in early 2018, not the greatest as they reformulated it and my levels were low, but at least no side effects. When my prescription for it ran out recently, I had no insurance to see my doctor again yet, and so had no choice but to take something I already had on hand. This time, after 6 hours of taking the first dose of NP, I experienced the most profound sadness/deep depression, complete with crying spells. It lasted for hours; I was in bed crying my eyes out for no apparent reason. Not like me! And that’s not all. Headache, dizziness, anxiety, heart pounding, feeling like I was going to pass out, diarrhea, vision problems, confusion/disorientation/brain fog, no appetite, “wired but tired” feeling, shortness of breath...what a list, good grief!"

For Underactive Thyroid "Like the majority of people, I was given NP when WP was unavailable. Cue sweats, anxiety, weight gain, and utter misery. Crying, can’t function, blurry vision. I’ve taken my first dose of NatureThroid this morning, and voila, I am a different person. I’m holding my body straight, I feel alive/awake, and I feel like I don’t have heavy, puffy eyes."

For Underactive Thyroid "I cannot take Synthroid, so years ago, my doctor switched me to Armour, and it worked great! Then, for a year, they stopped making it. I started on what is called just Thyroid in Canada, made by Erfa. It worked beautifully. Then, after about 3 years, it went south on me. Tried Armour again, and it was not good for me anymore. I have been on NP for 3 years, and this fall, I was depressed, anxious, I’d get angry. I couldn’t figure out what happened. Never thought of it being NP until 2 weeks ago. I found out they no longer manufacture the pill in Georgia, but it is now manufactured in Europe, but no one knows where. I stopped the pill for 3 days and felt so calm and actually really good. Then, I started on a half dosage for 4 days and felt good. Today, I took a full dosage, and I feel a little weird, but not like before. My doctor wants me to see an Endo ASAP, which I will after giving this a few more days. If they change any filler, then that’s what we get the symptoms from."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was switched to NP Thyroid after Nature-Throid was recalled. I was doing really well on the Nature-Throid, but I tried to stay positive in taking this one. It smells and tastes disgusting. I noticed unexplained pain in my hip, constant indigestion, upset stomach, random diarrhea. Seven months in and my T3 is off the chart, T4 and TSH are super low, basically hyperthyroid. In the past month, I developed horrible anxiety, crying randomly and uncontrollably, trouble sleeping, and fatigue. I barely recognize myself. Had a complete breakdown in the middle of an exam. My professors are mad and think I'm somehow incompetent, although I kept trying to explain I didn't know what was going on. Finally went to the doctor and found out she had prescribed Armour, but my pharmacy was filling NP instead. I'm fighting with insurance to get Armour covered, but I can't continue with NP. My temporary dose of Armour already smells better than the NP. I'm praying this works, because I don't know what I'm gonna do if it doesn't."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Armour Thyroid for many years. Pharmacy recommended NP because of the price difference, so switched me to NP, and I noticed extreme flu-like symptoms, headaches, hair loss, insomnia, swelling (even facial swelling), all-over body pain, and constant exhaustion. I asked to be switched back to Armour after a month of misery on NP, and to please make note on my account to NEVER give me NP again because of the terrible reactions. After new blood work, I unknowingly was given NP again and took it without realizing that it wasn’t Armour. My life became a living nightmare! The anxiety attacks have been awful. My nails break easily, hair falls out in alarming amounts, continuous dull headaches accompanied by brain fog that has been very concerning. The feeling of exhaustion is unbelievable, and I cannot sleep. Joint pain, miserable indigestion and reflux, profuse sweating, inflammation, and muscle aches. My energy is ZERO, and the crying makes me feel crazy! NP Thyroid is HORRIBLE!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "My endo told me in June of this year that Armour had stopped working for her patients. I continued on it, I trusted Armour. It has been around forever. Big mistake. I have had inconsistent dosing that made me hypo, which showed on labs and labs that showed my hyper. I had inconsistent dosing in bottles where I'd take a pill and feel fine, another hypo, another like I'd taken speed. Symptoms were terrifying: anxiety, anxiety attacks, racing heartbeat, palpitations, hot flashes, irregular periods, spotting, hot flashes, migraines, dizziness, high cortisol had to be tested for Cushing's-negative, thank goodness-high blood pressure, panic attacks, insomnia, agitation, inability to handle stress of any kind, hair fall, vision problems, nausea with the migraines, all sorts of digestive issues including food intolerances and diarrhea. I've been in fight or flight for months. I was switched to Levoxyl. My last labs on Armour were normal, but I had all the above symptoms."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was noticing symptoms of rapid weight gain (bloated face, etc.), extreme fatigue, lethargy, high sensitivity to cold, constipation, high cholesterol, etc. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on this medication (NP Thyroid) from my general practitioner. I've begun having increasing nausea, anxiety, and irritability, rapid heart rate, and haven't noticed any improvements to the original hypothyroidism symptoms. I'm going back to my doctor and requesting a change in medication."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was taking Levoxyl for 12 years and felt great. Then went into another Hashi-toxicosis, so TSH increased and had severe hyperthyroid symptoms due to this. My thyroid started to normalize again on Levoxyl, but my primary doctor wanted me to try Armour, so I did. HUGE mistake! I took it only for one week, and it gave me seizures with fear and extreme anxiety, depression, mood changes. TSH rapidly increased, nausea, no appetite, and I started feeling depressed after the very first day taking it. Even after I stopped taking it, I am still dealing with the horrible side effects three months later, especially the anxiety! I never had anxiety, depression, or seizures prior to taking Armour. Stay away from this drug."

For Hashimoto's disease "This has saved my life. I was on Levothyroxine for 8 years, and it didn't help my fatigue, pain, insomnia, or weight. I've been on WP Thyroid for 5 months and have lost 36 pounds and am no longer at risk for diabetes, and feel like a new person. I still struggle with depression and anxiety, but I feel this medication is amazing."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

For Underactive Thyroid "I took 60 mg NP Thyroid for symptoms of fatigue related to low T3. I was jittery, and my heart rate went up to 130. I could not eat or sleep. I took it the next day and felt worse, BP went from 110/60 to 146/79. I only took it 2 days total. It has an awful taste, too. My NP took me off of it after 2 days."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was put on Armour after NP Thyroid recall, they never told anyone they changed their formulation. NP Thyroid made me really sick. Even though I took my meds every morning, I ended up with a TSH of 19. I switched to Armour and was doing fine until last year in December when I started having racing heartbeat, palpitations, insomnia, cortisol spikes, vision changes, diarrhea, chest pain, tightness in my back, neck, shoulders, digestive issues, and hot flashes. Irregular periods, really bad anxiety, and even a panic attack. My TSH has been all over the place like a yo-yo. One month it's suppressed, the next it's in the 1's, then it jumps to the 3's, and then drops back down again. If my TSH is doing all that, you know my free T3 and T4 are all over the place too. One day I'd take my meds and feel fine, two days later, anxiety and complete instability. I ended up on blood pressure medications to control the racing heartbeat. My endo said a few months back that Armour had stopped working for people."

For Underactive Thyroid "Please be careful with this medication. I am barely putting it all together this morning. I was on NatureThroid for a while. I lost weight but was jittery. So my doc changed me to NP Thyroid. For 3 months, I noticed I was starting to gain weight and became extremely tired in the afternoon but thought nothing of it. Then I had my prescription refilled on 1/27, and on 1/31 everything came crashing down. I woke to my body buzzing like slight electrocution. My anxiety went through the roof, ringing in my ears (like loud buzzing), inability to focus, complete insomnia. I would wake at 12:45 every night extremely hot like a hot flash and couldn't go back to sleep (thyroid regulates body temperature). I was a zombie! I took myself off this stuff and am recovering SLOWLY because it screwed with my adrenals too. Thyroid and adrenals are linked. Awaiting blood test results to see where to go next."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was taking Levoxyl for 12 years and doing fine. Then went into another Hashitoxicosis due to either progression of Hashimoto’s or extreme stress. After several months of trying to get my thyroid stable again, it finally started to level out with Levoxyl. My Dr. suggested I try Armour, so I did. HUGE mistake!! From the first day I took it, I felt something was off, and I only took it for 7 days - depressed, nauseous, low pulse, tired, felt cold, allergic reaction with fever blisters, itchy rash, and swollen eyes. On the 7th day, I started having seizures, extreme severe anxiety, depressed, I felt like it was causing a mental issue/breakdown/extreme nervousness and fear. I NEVER had seizures or anxiety or depression before the Armour. My TSH increased rapidly, and T4 decreased just two weeks after I started taking it. Went back to Levoxyl. Three months later, and I’m still having anxiety and trying to recover from the extreme damage it caused."

For Hashimoto's disease "Since 2017, I was doing very well on my NP thyroid. Then May 2020 hit and all changed. No more NP, so I was placed on Synthroid, then Tirosint tablet, then Tirosint SOL, and finally Armour. I hesitated at first to re-try Armour because it had caused me hives back in early 2017. But this time it didn't. Even though I started back in Sept. 2020, I have NOT been able to increase because it increases my anxiety to the point that I'm suffering attacks and chest pains. By doctor's orders, I went to see a psychiatrist and therapist, but my therapist states she's not convinced this anxiety IS mental, but leaning more towards the Armour. Now I'm on the verge of getting a DNA test done to help see if I have any exclusive sensitivities that'll tie it all down for me. Don't get me wrong, I do like this med since it has way, way less side effects, but I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing chest pains with it, or am I exclusive?"

For Underactive Thyroid "A year ago, this month, I was suddenly finding it difficult to get NP Thyroid 30 mg. I started getting it easier through a different pharmacy. In October, I noticed a lot of little purple spots on the back of my hands. I’ve continued getting them here and there on my arms and hands. As well, I had strong heart palpitations that would sometimes make me feel faint. I had my heart checked out twice, but nothing explained the palpitations. Add to all that, I noticed my upper abdomen was feeling bloated. I was also feeling tired and anxious. Something wasn’t right. A few nights ago, something made me decide to research NP Thyroid medication, and I was shocked to see some of the side effects people were having. I quit taking it, and already, no more little purple spots! After a year of seeing them pop up here and there on my arms and hands - gone. I’m wondering if I have damaged my health taking it for a year. Don’t take this medicine!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had a total thyroid removal in February and was started on Levothyroxine 125 mcg. In March, my TSH was 7.5, so my NP increased it to 175 mcg. I began to have terrible side effects and possible allergic reactions. She switched me to a low dose of Armour. I was feeling terrible after a week. My TSH had increased to 32.9. She increased my dose to 60 mg twice a day. I started having horrible side effects, depressed, anxious, BP increased, very irritable, could not sleep. I stopped taking it for 24 hours and already feel better. Now I will have to try something else."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking NP Thyroid in April of 2021, so a little over 7 months. I have gotten married and all in this time being on the new med. I literally felt like I was dying with the amount of panic and anxiety attacks I was having, not feeling myself, brain fog, feeling doomed, exhausted, overwhelmed, and overall just off. Instead of checking on the thyroid medication, because I have taken a few different kinds since I was 11 years old when I was originally diagnosed (I’m 35 now) and never having any side effects, I completely regret it. I literally thought I was losing my mind. The waves of emotions along with the ups and downs were just brutal. I had complete loss of my sex drive along with any feelings at all. I thought that it was stress from work and my wedding, thought I had a mental breakdown. I went as far as to see a therapist and then a psychiatrist, trying multiple medications to fix this. I stopped taking the NP Thyroid and the rest a few days ago, feeling better and better every day!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I started Armour Thyroid 60 mg about 2 months ago, and what has unfolded has been absolutely terrible. While my thyroid levels went up and I lost 10 lbs, I also had serious side effects including debilitating fatigue, tremors, anxiety, heart palpitations, syncope, and vision problems. I went downhill so fast doctors were convinced I had a pituitary tumor, which according to the MRI I don’t. I took myself off the medication, and I have slowly begun to feel more like myself again. My sister took Armour Thyroid before it was reformulated and loved it, she even went to Canada to get it when it was no longer available in the US. When it did become available, she got it right away and had terrible side effects as well. She went off it and now takes ERFA and is happy with it."

For Hashimoto's disease "I have Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism. I had been taking Levothyroxine for 7 years and continued to feel awful-always tired and gained weight like crazy. I recently found a new primary care physician and OBGYN who both recommended I try NP Thyroid (and selenium) given my continued and worsening symptoms while taking Levothyroxine. I think my NP Thyroid dosage was too high the first time I started taking it because I felt extreme anxiety, my heart racing, little appetite, and I would cry probably every other day for no reason. I was taking this 60 mg NP Thyroid for 6 weeks. After reporting the side effects I experienced to my doctor, she cut my dosage in half for now, and my side effects have subsided. I do have to say that despite cutting the dosage, I am feeling better than I had been while taking Levothyroxine."

For Underactive Thyroid "Worst medicine I’ve ever taken. My doctor prescribed this to me, and I took it for 3 weeks. I felt weak, nauseated, had headaches, horrible anxiety, and a racing heart! I called the doctor, and she told me that she takes it and she takes a higher dose than me, so it must be something else. I didn’t listen to her, and I stopped taking it. I immediately felt better, and I changed doctors. This medicine is awful!!"
