For GERD "Always dissolve these sucralfate pills in a little cup of water before you take it. Took Sucralfate 1GM, twice a day for 2 months and this is the first pill I have ever taken for GERD and gastritis that actually works! I no longer have DAILY burning in my chest, stomach, back, and mouth. I still have GERD, gastritis, and hiatal hernia symptoms, but not as bad as it was. For months my stomach and chest burned, no matter what I ate or didn't eat, and no matter what time of day it was! It was so bad I even went to the E.R., convinced I was having a heart attack... It was hell! I tried Famotidine and it didn't relieve or help my GERD, and Omeprazole gave me a bunch of nasty side effects, including some of the worst stomach cramps and diarrhea I've ever had! This pill did give me pain in my legs and arms and even stomach aches on occasion, but it actually works, so the good outweighed the bad. Highly recommend it!"

Sucralfate for Stomach Ulcer "Carafate worked miracles. I wasn't able to eat much while on it, but it did stop the pain from my ulcer. I didn't realize it, but it did make me constipated and I was really gassy, which in turn caused pain, but I would rather have gassy pain than the pain from the ulcer."

For Stomach Ulcer "I am a week into Sucralfate, not sure if I feel differently in a good way. I’m still getting bad pains and painful bloating to the point where I feel my stomach is going to burst. Not to mention it’s a huge inconvenience to take 3x a day, 1 hour before eating. I have 3 other meds that I have to take at all different times because of Sucralfate, which is super hard because I am not an early bird whatsoever. Every time I take the pill, I immediately feel sick to my stomach, and it makes me not want to eat. 8/10 times I can’t eat after my first dose. I always feel really awful until over an hour later, my body feels fine, yet I don’t see the pill improving my ulcer complications."

For GERD "This pill flakes and crumbles as soon as I get a sip of water in my mouth, making it difficult and painful to swallow. I've choked on it several times and even threw up today. (I didn't throw up the pill, though-it was still stuck in my throat!) I called my pharmacy, and they recommended crushing the pill and mixing it with some applesauce-I'm gonna guess not too much, though, since you're supposed to take this med on an empty stomach. But one or two spoonfuls may be better than choking or not being able to take the med at all. Good luck if you take it! I can't say how well it's working because my condition was not causing any pain."

For Stomach Ulcer "I have been taking Carafate for over a year. It is making my stomach so much better. It is very hard to take 2 or more a day because I am on so much other medicine. I notice the acid and pain in my stomach when I don't take more than 2 a day. Good luck."

For Stomach Ulcer "I have a lot of erosion in my upper stomach and I am in pain, nauseated, dry heaving. The swelling is so bad it makes it so hard on my breathing, especially since I have emphysema. It’s hard to eat because I feel so awful afterward. I didn’t know to dissolve the pill in some water. I tried swallowing the first pill, it got stuck right away. I kept choking. It got stuck three different times before I finally got it to go down. Very scary. So please dissolve. I’ve taken one last night and four today along with 40 mg Nexium. I started feeling very dizzy this afternoon, and my back is in severe pain. I won’t be taking anymore. I guess I’ll just be eating very little when I can handle it. Baby food worked before. Good luck, everyone."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I have chronic Crohn's disease. I’m always experiencing some pain and bloating after eating, but recently I have had accelerated symptoms with much worse diarrhea, so I had an endoscopy on 12/24. Sent home being told I had gastritis and then prescribed this medication for a duodenal ulcer. Day 3 of the meds, and the pain in my stomach, up high to the right, near my rib cage, has gotten noticeably worse. I’m hoping it’s just because of the endoscopy, but this is really worse than Crohn's!"

For Duodenal Ulcer "Husband experiencing terrible pain when taking small amounts of sucralfate. Thought it was to help, not make him feel even worse. Was in hospital several times since April, rehab center who over-drugged him, and stomach issues up the kazoo since coming home. Every time he attempts to eat anything small, he needs to spit up or vomit. What is going on... it’s not helping him and he wants to eat. Has not eaten in nearly two months of anything substantial."

For GERD "I've been literally choking on this pill twice a day for a week now. I’ve heard you’re supposed to just crush it into a slurry, but I don’t always have a lot of time in the morning, so I’ve just been swallowing it. I take HUGE drinks of water with the pill to try and ease it down, but it gets stuck in my throat EVERY TIME. It is so scary and painful and has made me throw up twice now. How have they not changed this? There are people out there who have much more difficulty swallowing than me, and I can’t even imagine what it’s like for them to try and take this pill. If you get prescribed this pill, DO NOT TRY TO SWALLOW IT. Just listen to everyone else and crush it and mix it into a slurry. It’s absolutely ridiculous."
