"I am a female taking spironolactone. This medicine is awesome for women. MEN SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION as it lowers their testosterone levels. I take it to regulate the androgen side effects of my testosterone shots. It is awesome for women and just as awful for men. Do your research, men."

"Used half a tab of 25 mg daily for two weeks, with a two-day interval between the weeks due to a rash developing near the belly button. Upon resumption, no further rashes, but instead a tendinitis flare-up with it starting to spread to the ankle. So I stopped taking it. Lab results with this small amount showed potassium slightly out of range, 5.5 on a scale of 2-5.3. The half tab didn't do a lot to keep BP down when added to 30 mg Lisinopril I take. So I stopped taking it. I now believe most BP medicines were designed thinking someone from 60 up is sedentary. When one is a senior athlete, I believe they leach something out of tendons and muscles, causing problems."

"At first, this medication worked. Then it all went downhill. Recently went into the ER with a BP of 205/115. This medicine has stopped working for me. Also, my potassium is low as well. Would not recommend this for BP."

"Took this for blood pressure, the first day of taking was fine, but by the next day after the daily dose, I have never been so sick in my life. I had extreme nausea, extreme hot feeling, feels like a bad flu, fatigue is horrible. I took spironolactone for 3 days, the doctor took me off right away - deadly drug."

"I'm a 46-year-old male and am taking spironolactone because of the nasty high blood pressure side effects of other drugs. I've been taking this for 3 months. Whilst it has lowered my BP, it's not entirely effective, I'm still around 138/90. Side effects have been bloatedness and wind, toilet 4 times per day, and occasional diarrhea, weight gain, loss of libido."

"I am a 55-year-old male. Yes, this medication does what it is supposed to do. However, my side effect included slight breast development. The doctor has not taken me off this medicine. I am upset with the doctor for not warning me about this psychological effect. Cannot come off of it without a replacement, apparently, so I am stuck."

"I tried several blood pressure meds. I was on MaxZide for some years. Later the MaxZide was discontinued, and my doc decided to give me 5 mg Lisinopril. I got tachycardia from it (like 120 bpm resting pulse). After a month of that, it was discontinued, and I was put on Metoprolol. After years of that, my systolic was a bit high. So he prescribed Clonidine. The combo took my pulse to the high 40s. So he discontinued the Clonidine and had me take 25 mg spironolactone. I love this med. I feel good! My pulse stayed low, so now I'm only on the spironolactone. I sometimes wake up with bp like 115/68. I've been on it for over 2 years. After the first few weeks, I've had no side effects at all-other than good ones."

"I have now been taking this medication for a month. I am a vegetarian, there are certain fruits and vegetables I saw online that I should not eat. My blood pressure is now lower than it has ever been, like 98/67. I am starting to sleep all day throughout the day just dozing off. My blood glucose drops at night now. I took a half pill two days ago because my pressure had been low. That night I had serious heart palpitations. That day I felt great having not taken it. I resumed the next day because of the palpitations, chest burning, low blood pressure, and strange feeling in my head. I researched that the sleepiness is a result of lowered blood pressure. I went to another doctor who has communicated I shouldn't be taking this medication. I have an appointment with my doctor next week as I reported the sleepiness and was informed by the nurse that I should take it at night. This medication, the longer I take it, the worse I feel. I also have experienced dry mouth and the left side of my face having a weird feeling."

"Taste, after receiving a bottle in a different state as I moved, just wanting to know if the medication is supposed to taste like minty, even the bottle has a smell. Never had a smell or taste before and have been using spironolactone for over a year for a previous stroke."

"Worked like a champ, dropping me to very near normal bp. Have been tolerating near 150/95+ with other meds for a while. Other bp meds also gave me muscle cramps and graying out when doing high-intensity exercise. I could also swear my heart rhythm is smoother on Spiro somehow, I'm sensitive to the way it moves, but of course, that's very subjective. Side effects... well, it will drop your testosterone level which you may or may not find annoying. If you'd find a bit of gyno unacceptable, you may need to find something else."

"I started to take this medication, and within 2 to 3 days, I was itching so badly around the lower part of my neck, and on my arms. I couldn't stand it, I would just dig and dig, had to go buy Benadryl cream and stop taking!"

"I started taking spironolactone 25 mg about 2 months ago. It didn’t lower my blood pressure levels enough, but I continued taking it as it helped with the water retention issues I was having. I started experiencing major muscle spasms and hot pain in one of my legs, and I thought I had injured it somehow. That pain went away, and now one of my arms has the same issue. I have been getting more headaches as well. I feel it is related to the medication."

"I have several concerns about spironolactone. I am a vegetarian and have a prediabetic diagnosis also. I have been dealing with high blood pressure, where my bottom number stays high. I have taken spironolactone for 8 days, but not 8 consecutive days. After taking this medication for 4 days, I had diarrhea for two straight days. I stopped taking this medication. I contacted the health center and also went to the minor clinic. The minor clinic would not address the blood pressure medication but immediately thought I might have COVID because of the diarrhea. The health clinic that prescribed the medication stated that the diarrhea was probably something I had eaten. I noticed my leg muscles were achy. I was informed I had not been taking the medication long enough to give it an opportunity to work. I resumed taking this medication after two days of no use. The following Tuesday, a day after I resumed taking this medication, I noticed my blood pressure readings were back high."

"Spironolactone 25 mg daily caused these problems over a period of time. At first, no problems. Then a progressive electrolyte deficiency occurred. This caused minor to eventually major problems. My fingers would twist and lock. This first occurred while driving on the freeway, and I had to drive using the bottom pads of my hands. Eventually, more parts of my body began cramping, and the collective cramping, twisting, and pain of my muscles was unbearable to the point that I was screaming in pain. My hips, thighs, feet, toes, and side would twist at the same time and disable me. I discovered that I could stop all that with 1 TBS of liquid minerals from Utah Lake, purified by Keto Chow. Spironolactone did lower my blood pressure to the 120s. But when I stopped taking it, my pressure went to the 140s and my face got puffy with water retention. But I will never take spironolactone again. I’ll try a natural approach."

"I took this to help my high blood pressure and the dark hairs on my face. I took one 25 mg pill, and within a few hours, my legs were aching like crazy (felt like growing pains), and I was peeing every 30 mins. If you don’t care about that, then try it… I can’t do it."

"I lost my period as soon as I started this pill and I’m only on 25mg. I'm still on it. I get pretty bad lower stomach cramps and my boobs have slightly enlarged and become more sensitive, keep in mind I had no boobs beforehand. It’s helped with a lot though, it’s just small side effects. Did anyone else lose their period on this medicine?"

"I’m a 75-year-old female with what I consider mild HF. My blood pressure was high while I was at my new cardiologist. She put me on 25 mg of spironolactone. I had advised her I had issues with the med before. She advised I try it again, so I did. Got heart palpitations, joint pain, light diarrhea. After a week, I took a blood test, GFR went from 89 to 60. I stopped taking the meds and will call Dr. tomorrow."
