For Depression "Emsam patches 9 mg helped me effortlessly find the motivation to grow my business every day. Only negative side effect is that it seemed to have increased my tolerance for risk to a level I could not handle."

For Depression "Having tried just about everything out there, I was using an MAOI for years, but didn't realize how foggy I was feeling until I started using the Emsam patches. I can think more clearly, which is huge, but I still have to really push to do most things. They are the best thing I've tried."

Selegiline for Major Depressive Disorder "I’ve been on just about every antidepressant known to man over the last 40 years. Nardil worked for five years and then suddenly stopped being effective. Two years ago, I had 10 ECT treatments at UCLA, which were ineffective. Becoming desperate, I tried Emsam for two months. It had no effect at all, and at a cost of $1500.00 per month, might be considered one of the bigger pharmaceutical rip-offs."

Selegiline for Depression "I have been suffering from major depression for over 8 years, and nothing has really relieved it; Prozac would work temporarily but soon stopped. I have been on Emsam for almost 6 weeks, and my depression isn't gone, but it is better. I have not had any side effects, and now I have hope that it will work, and I finally have a shot at a 'normal' life. Good luck to everyone that needs and tries it!"

For Depression "Very effective. Diagnosed bipolar type II. Helps a lot with atypical depression-type symptoms, like lethargy and slow thought processes. Messes up my sleep though, and can make me a bit cranky and irritable. Anyone know how to deal with the insomnia? I find it hard to fall asleep and do not want to take benzodiazepines due to the addictive properties."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Have been struggling with MDD, PTSD, and GAD for 4 years. Given that a plethora of therapeutic modalities did absolutely nothing for me, I gave up on standard therapy and figured that I’d have to go to meds and other things to try to get back to a healthy headspace, from which I had long since fallen. Over the course of the past 10 years or so, I have tried a ridiculous abundance of pharmaceutical meds, “natural remedies,” supplements, and illicit substances on my path to betterment. The only things that ever had a positive effect on my psyche and mental health in general were Lithium Orotate (not the stuff given at ultra high doses in clinical settings [i.e. crazy house]), Kratom (although its effects for me are short-lived), and psychedelic substances — which saved my life. Selegiline is one more med I can add to the list of doing absolutely nothing for me. No downsides, but also no benefit to taking it. Hence my neutral review."

Selegiline for Major Depressive Disorder "I have been on Emsam since 2007, when it first came out. Started on a 12 mg patch, then down to 9, and then down to 6, which I have been on for 10+ years. I tried all SSRIs with minor and limited-time help. It has been a true blessing. Insomnia has been a constant problem. Now taking 300 mg gabapentin and 0.25 lorazepam with the patch about 9 p.m. and falling asleep after midnight. Sleeping well most nights. Tremors and fine motor skill weakness are my main problematic symptoms. I am a 74-year-old female. I would highly recommend Emsam. Not many problems with food or medicine. I am careful with food and drink selections and have had a few reactions. Hair dye with MSG, eye drops for numbing caused me to spike in BP, also, I did have a hospital stay for a spike due to old mushrooms, but not bad for this many years."

Selegiline for Depression "Like others on this thread, I have tried almost every antidepressant that was available prior to 2010. The one that worked the best was Nardil - but I needed to stop because of severe insomnia and one bad hypertensive episode - even though I strictly followed the diet. The sedating ones made my insomnia worse and others caused weight gain and impotence. I winged it for the next 14 years, but a series of events caused me to socially isolate. Enough was enough, and I again sought professional help. I was prescribed an SSRI and refused because of my previous experience. I had heard about Emsam and thought it might work because of my experience with Nardil. I was surprised that my HMO approved because of the outrageously high cost (retail $2,000/month, but my copayment is only $75.) Wow, what a difference. I started to feel the positive effects in a week. It took a while to learn how to apply the patch."

Selegiline "I found this antibiotic had side effects and interactions that were too scary. Avoid at all costs. Try vancomycin instead. Try anything else instead."

Selegiline for Depression "3 months on Emsam patch with some sense of mood improvement, yet I feel like I'm lacking the motivation and the sense of happiness that I experienced so long ago on the original Nardil formula. On 9 mg 24-hour schedule. I am going to ask my provider to consider a 12 mg trial period."
