"Took Seroquel XR for about 2 months, experienced help with sleep issues for about a week before that wore off. Gained at least 20 lbs in this time frame, due to increased appetite and general weight gain due to the drug. Never really seemed to help my bipolar disorder-the other medicines I take do that."

"I have mixed feelings about this medication. Ambien, Lunesta, Restoril, Trazodone, and so many other medications prescribed for sleep do not work for me. I can go days without sleep even with those medications. Of course, Tylenol PM, melatonin, and all of the over-the-counter brands are totally useless in my particular case. I wish so much that over-the-counter medications would work for me, but unfortunately, they don’t. I have bipolar 1 with rapid cycling a lot, so I am on a cocktail now that finally worked out for me, and I am finally more stable than I have ever been. Seroquel XR is working for me as far as the ups, downs, and sideways that I have experienced over the years. To me, that is great and a relief, but to me, the best result and the greatest benefit is the sleep that I get every night, and I don’t feel groggy like I did when I first started taking it. I am taking 800 mg at night. I get about 7-8 hours of sleep. Just got a lot of weight gain is the con of it. Working for me."

"Recently able to get the XR in generic form. This has been a completely life-changing medication for me. It has improved all areas of my condition to a point I am fully capable of managing life without any other assistance."

"Was on Lexapro 20 for a while, but after a bipolar NOS diagnosis, the doctor wanted to remove Lexapro and go to Seroquel XR. Usually, I sleep 7 hours, after taking 50 mg the first night, I slept 13 hours and was barely awake after that. The next night on 100 mg, I slept 12 hours and was barely functioning throughout the day. I went back to 50 and then back to 100 again and repeatedly found that I was in a haze until the early afternoon. I noticed no positive results and stopped after a week. Will now try Abilify. Also, I had rather intense dreams and nightmares."

"I have been on Seroquel XR for 12 years. I think it is overall a good medicine. I had tried several medications that didn't work. Thanks to Astra Zeneca, I am better. I have a better appetite. I still have some manic episodes, but Seroquel XR has been the best for me."

"I only took this one evening, it put me to sleep. This was one of the strongest medicines I've taken. I was put on 50 mg. I felt horrible the next day, couldn't concentrate to read, felt more depressed, had to go back to bed in the morning, and felt horrible the whole day. Luckily, my doctor said I could quit it."

"This was a miracle med for me. It lifted my relentless depression, and I was able to be stable on just Seroquel for many months. Almost no side effects except small weight gain and daytime sleepiness, but that went away. Best sleep of my life on this med. I’ve hit a rough patch in life (experiencing some loss) and am in the midst of a breakthrough depressive episode, but titrating back up on Lamictal and considering adding Wellbutrin eventually. I knew at some point I’d probably have to add a med, but Seroquel is still an important piece of the puzzle for me. It’s definitely not for everyone, like all meds, but for me it’s great."

"I had the worst side effect from this medication. I was originally prescribed it about a year ago for insomnia related to my Bipolar 2. It worked to get me to sleep, but eventually, I started to have enormous amounts of rectal pain, so I went off of it when I stopped cycling. I was put on it again this year when my cycling started again, and I again had the same pain. It was absolutely awful. So I am off of it now and never want to be put on it again."

"Seroquel XR stabilized my bipolar within a week. I felt no emotion at all, high or low. But I was a zombie, sleeping 18 or more hours a day on 300 mg. I switched to 200 mg and could function well after 8 hours of sleep with only a 1 hour or so 'hangover', but my job requires me to be on 24 hour call, and I got called only 2 hours after taking my medication. All I could do was drool on the telephone. I'm trying Geodon now."

"I have a diagnosis of bipolar type 1 (with long manic-psychotic episodes and a long depression that came on when I was put on a depot - Clopixol). After a roller-coaster few years of trying everything except Seroquel XR (well, quetiapine generic), I ended up quitting medication, back in the hospital, and even homeless. Since coming off the depot Clopixol in March 2020, due to suicidality, extreme depersonalization, and a generally nightmarish existence, and since switching to Seroquel XR 300 with lithium 600, I've been stable, and I've enjoyed a degree of stability and consistency I never thought possible with this illness. I realize psychiatric treatment is not for everyone, but with the major diagnoses, it is necessary I feel - I'm glad I persevered through many years of trial and error - the reward, only a bit of weight gain, ability to feel a nice healthy range of emotions (including tears/anger and laughter/humor), and a chance to live life as I intended. Unbelievable drug."

"Tried Seroquel ten years ago. Ended up driving when my body went into SEVERE convulsions. Was barely able to turn around and drive back home. Then, recently, ten years later, I was prescribed Seroquel XR. Again. I didn’t make the connection to the first time. Took the 100 mg dosage two nights ago. Uncontrollable convulsions and seizures. I have restless leg syndrome and my legs were flying all around. No way to lie down and sleep, so I walked around the house for four hours, occasionally sitting at my desk for a bit. No sleep. Then, the next day, I suffered the entire day suffering from cognitive dissonance. I kept going in and out of “the moment.” And I would spend about thirty seconds in this state, then return for a minute or two. This cycle went on all day long. Third day now and back to “normal.” Not taking anything now."

"I was prescribed Seroquel 10 mg for anxiety and insomnia. My doctor said to start at 5 mg for a couple of days so my body would get used to it. Within 20 minutes, I felt sedated and sleepy. I have to cut it into quarters before I take it because otherwise I feel dumbed down and heavy, like I smoked a whole pound of weed or something. My eyes even become reddish and lazy. It damn near gives me anxiety. I have never taken the whole 10 mg because I'm terrified of how I might feel. Also, if I take it after 7 pm, I struggle to get up at 4 am for work. I've snoozed my phone all the way to 7 am before just because I literally could not keep my eyes open for more than 5 seconds from feeling so tired, like I only had an hour of sleep. Maybe it's a different result for bipolar, but it isn't working for me at all."

"800 mg Zaluron/Seroquel, 1200 mg Lithium Priadel, 1000 mg Depakote, 30 mg Aripiprazole. Combined, they are all starting to get me down from manic and to feel a bit stable again. Hoping it works. None of the above make me drowsy, although I get vivid dreams during my three hours of sleep!"

"My psychiatrist prescribed me Seroquel today for my type 2 bipolar disorder. I have been taking 1350 mg Lithium and 200 mg Lamotrigine for seven years now, but I have become toxic from the lithium because my kidneys aren't doing their job properly, and my levels have been slowly rising over time. So now I'm slowly reducing my daily dose of lithium and starting on Seroquel tomorrow. I just want to know if it's a good combination."

"Listen to me when I say never, and I mean never experiment with this drug Seroquel or Seroquel XR. It will only make your anxiety worse, and if you have OCD, you're in for a nightmare. Worst drug ever, and it will not help with your symptoms whatsoever and will only help you sleep at night. Do not, and I repeat, do not get on this medication. On top of that, you will have some of the craziest thoughts you could ever imagine."

"This drug, Seroquel extended release, is amazing. Way better than the regular Seroquel. It really helps my mood. It helps me sleep and is less sedating. I don't feel like a zombie in the morning."

"It worked well, my moods were more stable. The only downfall was that I gained 20 pounds. As a bulimic and anorexic, this terrified me. I ended up going off of it to lose the weight."
