"This med really helps with paranoia and delusional behavior, but the side effects are horrific! Weight gain is unavoidable. It drops my blood sugar, and I’m forced to eat or I’ll pass out. I hate the dizzy, light-headed feeling of needing to eat immediately after taking it. It also distorts my vision, and I already wear glasses because I can’t see 10 ft in front of me. I take 150 mg four times a day, and it doesn’t make me sleepy, but it does put me in a foggy haze. Restless legs at night are awful. At my next appointment, I’m switching to another drug because I can’t handle these side effects! If I don’t take this med and skip a dose, the extreme paranoia instantly comes back along with an irregular heartbeat, and it feels like the quetiapine KNOWS you didn’t take it, so it makes your day awful until you do. Weirdest drug I’ve ever taken."

Quetiapine "Seroquel was like a miracle, helped in every way but made me very sleepy. But over time, I started getting shaky and my nerves started breaking down. Plus, I felt like I wasn't going to wake up whenever I went to sleep. These side effects increasingly got worse, so I had to stop taking it. Currently looking for something else. Was a miracle while it lasted, for those that don't get those kinds of scary side effects, this could really be your miracle. I recommend giving it a try."

"I had some strong psychotic episodes, and I’m diagnosed with schizophrenia. I’ve been using quetiapine for 10 years. I still hear voices every day, but it is not anymore so devastating an experience, and this medicine helped me to live with this disease and voices, which are most of the time an annoying detail of my life, and I see more criticism of their advice. There are still more voices in stressful situations. In such situations, I sometimes use 100 mg more, and it helps quite fast. It really improved my life. From side effects, I don’t see much, but I use it before sleep, so during the day, for sure it would make me sleepy. My blood results and weight are fine, but often at night, at the moment when quetiapine starts making me sleepy, I have suddenly crazy cravings to eat something sweet. Without quetiapine after 9 years, I think that there would be a problem getting to sleep. It was a big step forward to start managing this disease. Heads up, people, and I wish you the best."

Quetiapine "I am on an injection. If Seroquel came in injection form, I would take it instead. I stayed out of the hospital for 8-9 years while I was on Seroquel. The doctor said it has a therapeutic aspect, i.e., not just for maintenance, and that was my experience. I was working part-time, volunteering, making art, going to the gym. I was on very high doses, but gradually needed less and less."

"I experience depression, anxiety, and schizophrenic/general psychotic symptoms and have found even an incredibly low dosage of this to be incredibly helpful, especially in lessening voices. However, it does make me stupidly tired and gives me bad migraines upon waking up in the morning."

Quetiapine "I took Seroquel/quetiapine for 7 years, and it works like magic. Made back normal. I had no more delusional thoughts, no more paranoia, and no more fearful feelings. My life was the BEST. However, BOYYYYY, the side effects are serious. I took 800 mg at night before bed, and it knocks you OUT! I used to sleep to like 4 pm on it, if not MORE. Had me sleepy ALL the time. And I didn't mind that, but what I didn't like was that when I would take it, my heart would beat so fast I would feel like it would explode, and I used to feel really high and like I was catching an episode of psychosis, so I would just hurry and go to sleep (as if the medicine didn't make me sleepy anyway, lol), and these side effects never let up over the seven years, but it was a miracle drug. I'm no longer on it because I got pregnant and was afraid to take it, and it stopped working once I started taking it again. So now I'm on Invega Sustenna injection, but I would kinda recommend, and the reason I say kinda is because of the side effects."

"Very good drug. Tried olanzapine and aripiprazole, and this is the best. Made my depression a bit better also. Better than lithium, citalopram, and sertraline, as I've tried all these for depression with no success. Relieved me of anxiety too. Does make you super groggy after taking it, so be careful, guys."

"It is almost perfect. It helps with the paranoia and delusions, along with having no akathisia (restlessness). If you can't deal with the intense tiredness it brings, just take them right before you sleep."

"Been on this for about 6 months. People say it knocks you out. Well, I think that it only does this for the first 2 weeks. I was on it, I take 100 mg twice a day and 75 mg before bed. It is a very, very good medication for schizophrenia as it really blocks most of the delusions and voices and also helps a lot keeping the temper under control, but when you flip, you really go nuts. This med keeps very stable most of the time and helps appetite very well. I have not really gained too much weight, but it's best to do some exercise when you can. Helps a bit with anxiety, but not enough for me. So, I'm currently waiting to go to the psych doc to work something out to stop anxiety, and I'm thinking Lyrica as benzos don't really do much for me. All in all, very good medication."

"I take 200 mg and have been doing so for around a year. It has worked great on the actual issues and allows me to actually sleep. However, technically, no, it is not addictive, but you become dependent on it to sleep. Forget your meds when you go somewhere and I get maybe 1, 2 hours of sleep. I had issues when moving and was off of it for a month, it was pretty horrible. Aside from that, I have nothing but good things to say about this medication for me personally. I've only ever taken 100 mg or more, so I don't know how different the lower dosages are, but it will take quite a bit of getting used to. Additionally, you can't take it too late or else you might be a zombie the next day. Everyone's body is different, but you definitely should be aware of what time you take it. If you can get past the intense sleepiness and this medication is something you genuinely need, I do recommend it personally."

"This medicine helped me a lot with my sleep. I take it, and at most 1 hour later, I'm already asleep. The problem is that I am very sleepy, and I can't wake up before 9 hours of sleep. Also, it makes me groggy until about 4 hours after I wake up, and not even a bottle of coffee or a cold shower wakes me up. It makes me sad because I can't enjoy my day. After I started taking it, my condition stabilized, and I don't run away from reality so much. My mood doesn't fluctuate so much, my irritability has diminished. A holy medicine, the problem is that in the early hours of the day, I look like a zombie, but other than that, without words, the medicine that lifted me right after a suicide attempt and saved me from hospitalization."

"I am taking 100 mg of quetiapine, which I am supposed to take every night. However, I only take it when my voices or hallucinations become unbearable. The medication usually takes about 3 hours to work, and then I feel back to 'normal' where I can manage the voices and hallucinations, although I still experience them. I do not encourage skipping medication, but I have tendencies toward anorexia and am trying to avoid the weight gain side effect. This is why I only take quetiapine when my symptoms are unbearable. From my perspective, quetiapine is amazing for managing my psychosis symptoms. It works very quickly, especially in terms of my thoughts, allowing me to recognize that what I am experiencing is not real. However, quetiapine does make me feel 'high' in a way that is similar to smoking marijuana, and it also makes me feel tired. Unlike olanzapine, which caused me to gain 20 pounds in one month, sleep for 12 hours a day, and have difficulty speaking."

"I am using quetiapine 200 mg every day for about two years, and I experienced headaches after one year of consumption once or twice a week. I guess it was migraine and an increase in sweating. Should I keep taking my medicine?"

Quetiapine "Got rid of psychotic symptoms, but I had an allergic reaction and had to go off it. Made me feel drunk after I took it, so I had to go right to bed. I would stumble around if I got out of bed. Made me sweat and salivate more. I found olanzapine a better fit."
