"I went to the ER with the worst headache of my life. After a spinal tap, the doctors determined I had encephalitis. The pain I felt from that and the spinal tap were bad enough, but even that wasn’t as bad as the pure dread that Compazine made me feel. Prior to administering it, my nurse warned me that some people can have a bad reaction to the drug, but she said Benadryl typically counteracted those negative side effects. I wish I’d had the sense to ask more questions first! Within five minutes of taking it, I felt like I needed to crawl out of my own skin. I’m a pretty calm person with a good grip on my emotions, but I felt like I lost all control in that moment. I screamed at my nurse and told her to get it out of me. Knowing now that they could’ve given me Ativan to calm me down irritates me a little because they made me lay there and suffer through it for hours. Luckily, the side effects didn’t last more than a few hours, but it felt like an eternity."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was in the hospital suffering from post-lumbar puncture headache and nausea/severe vomiting. IV Zofran did nothing, IV Reglan did nothing, only the IV Compazine gave me relief. Granted, as soon as it ran out, I started up again, but at least it allowed me a few hours of peace to sleep."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Please don’t take this medication. They gave it to me through IV as a part of their useless “migraine cocktail,” which needs to be discontinued in and of itself. Needless to say, within 10 seconds, I was hot, sweaty, agitated - ready to pull the IV out, and I’ve had RLS before, this was a tad worse. The pure akathisia felt like hell. Then they gave me this as opposed to stronger meds because they were worried about me driving, but hell - if only they knew that this was more dangerous to drive with, maybe they would have reconsidered. This stuff makes you feel depersonalized, more sick, helplessly “under” (the best way I can put it), and the only way out is TIME. Benzos make it more tolerable (slightly). I’m on day two afterward, and I feel fortunate that I’m about 75 percent “back” from whatever hellish trip that was. It’s now on my allergy list. Lawsuit!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I took this for my extreme amount of nausea causing anxiety. It did wonders for my nausea! It was wonderful and like a miracle. Until the third time I took it... I had the worst experience of my life. My jaw got locked and stuck to one side, my eyes got locked looking upwards, and I couldn't move them. My jaw felt as if it was trying to break itself and was so painful. I ended up sticking my finger down my throat to make myself vomit up the drug. It continued to lock my jaw up off and on for the next 48 hours. Never again. Be careful of the side effects. Worked wonders for my nausea and vomiting, but I would rather be throwing up than experience those side effects."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have been given Compazine in my IV, and it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life! It almost immediately made me very anxious, I wanted to pull my IV out and just get out of the hospital! I felt zombie-like, and my face went numb. I had side effects like these for about 3 days! Never again will I take Compazine!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "The absolute worst experience with an antiemetic I have ever had. I literally panicked in the hospital to the point I almost pulled my IV out. Zofran stopped working for my hyperemesis gravidarum, but I would rather live with nausea and vomiting day in and out than feel the uncontrolled anxiety and restlessness I felt with Compazine!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER with nausea, they gave me Compazine immediately. I felt hot and restless. I freaked out, they moved me from the hallway to a room where I became restless and angry. My jaw locked up, and I was shaking uncontrollably. My heart raced, and I felt like I was gonna die. My symptoms lessened after about 8 hours, where I slept off and on. I went to a different ER, and they gave me a small dose of Ativan, but it didn’t make me feel any better. The next day, I still feel panicky, and my heart feels weird, and the shaking comes and goes. I also have horrible diarrhea. Worst experience of my life."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was suffering from unexplained nausea for about a year. I tried a host of other anti-nausea medications, but nothing really seemed to be helping. My doctor gave me Compazine, which helped my nausea but made me exhausted by the evening and caused me to burst into tears at least once a day. I stopped taking the medication because the side effects were too much for me to handle."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was first given Compazine orally for anxiety and nausea. It did not appear to have any side effects. A year later, I was hospitalized following surgery and was extremely nauseous, so after giving me Zofran to no avail, they gave me Compazine IV. It burned going into my arm. I became very agitated and restless, my body could not stop shaking, and I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. Luckily, they gave me Benadryl, and that helped calm me down a bit, but it took a couple of days to feel myself again. Will never take IV again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Do NOT use Compazine!! I went to the ER for a severe migraine that lasted a week. They put me on Compazine, and within just a few minutes, I was shaking uncontrollably, couldn’t keep still, and had extreme anxiety, like if I didn’t leave the hospital RIGHT AWAY, my entire life would just go down the toilet. This was the only time I ever ripped out an IV. I called the nurse in, and I could only mumble “Oh God, what did you do to me” over and over again. After some of these other reviews, I count myself lucky that my symptoms only lasted a single night and the migraine did go away. But still, I will never take it again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER last night with nausea and vomiting. I was given Zofran, but it had soon worn off. I told the doctor, and he said he would give me something else. The nurse came in with the Compazine. She gave it to me through my IV. Within minutes, I started to feel really jittery and restless! I started to become anxious and fidgety, and I wanted to rip my IV out of my arm. The medicine worked for the nausea, but it's definitely not worth the side effects! It was the worst feeling ever!!! It has been 21 hours since, and I still don't feel right. The symptoms have calmed down a lot, but I'm still not 100%."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I've had three OHS (open heart surgeries), so I've had my fair share of IV medicine. NOTHING, and I repeat, absolutely nothing I have taken has made me feel as awful as this did. Five minutes after receiving the dose of Compazine, I started getting restless, like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. I complained about how uncomfortable I truly was, and the doctor just said, 'Oh yeah, that happens.' Please don't take this, it may have helped my pain. But here I am, 19 hours later, still feeling like complete garbage. I honestly wish I would have read these reviews first."

For Anxiety "It’s so sad that these doctors don’t care about us like they should. I went to the ER today because I was having debilitating pressure in the middle of my head. Now I was already messed up when I got there, and I already suffer from severe anxiety, and then they turned around and gave me Compazine in my IV. I literally felt like I was dying, I could not be still, I could not sit down, I didn’t know what to do, my body almost couldn’t handle this medication, and the reason for giving this was because I had a headache. No... people, please do not ever take this drug at all, it does not help you, it hurts you. I’m still sleepy from taking this, and it was 10 a.m., now it’s 9 p.m. where I am. Do not take this drug."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was talking to my sister about my bad reaction to a medication I took 15 years ago called Compazine. I took this prescribed medicine while at home. I remember my experience like it was yesterday. At first, I felt a twitching in my jaws. All at once, my bottom jaw started going to the right, and my top jaw started going to the left. I could not stop it, and I could not talk. In fact, my jaw felt like it was trying to break off my face. I remember the emotional and physical pain. My husband and I were both crying because we both didn't understand what was happening! My husband ended up taking me to another clinic, and they admitted me at once. So BEWARE! Just from talking - I found out this same medication hurt my sister just last year."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Compazine through the IV for nausea and vomiting while admitted. It was an absolute nightmare that still makes me feel pure fear when I think about it. I thought I was going to die. At first, my legs just felt restless, which I thought I was just having some anxiety, but then it really hit. I couldn't get my body to cool down, I started vomiting, then lost control of my bowels in front of the nurses. This lasted over six hours until they finally gave me something that knocked me out until it was over. I thought I was going to die. It scared both my partner, who was there, and myself to the point that I am now scared to take any more medications, fearing a similar reaction. They should really warn people about this drug."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I thought I had the flu, so I went to the ER to get tested. It came back negative, but since I had a migraine, they gave me a “headache cocktail” which my sister had a bad reaction to, but I had forgotten (after all, I had a migraine and couldn't think straight). I got the IV meds, and one of them was Compazine...the awful liquid itself. Immediately, I had trouble getting comfortable, and my throat felt like I had a shrunken airway, but the doctors said it was just anxiety. So, it’s 4 in the morning, and I’m stumbling around the hospital waiting for my prescription and my stepdad to come pick me up, and I’m falling asleep any time I sit down. As soon as I got home, I fell into bed and couldn’t sleep unless my legs were writhing around. Then I slept off and on for almost 20 hours. I sweated most of the medication out, thank goodness, but I’ve never had anything like it happen before. I was by myself and was terrified. Why is this medication even still given?!?"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had been suffering from severe nausea and vomiting on and off, including migraine, fever, and flank pain. It was my second time in the ER, so they gave me Compazine and I'd never had it, it relieved my nausea and migraine, but I started feeling so restless. I was freaking out, like I wanted to rip out my IV and leave and run away. Then they told me it's a side effect, and I already suffered from severe anxiety, it made it 1000x worse. I had the worst time trying to sleep, then had the weirdest dreams of my life. They gave me morphine shortly after, which calmed me a little and took the rest of my pain away, but I was hoping it'd honestly put me out. 24 hours later, and I still feel that restlessness in my body, but it's so much better than it was."

For Anxiety "Never EVER again. I had just gotten back to my inpatient room after having my kidney removed. I was gutted like a fish and in a lot of pain. I was having some nausea due to surgery messing with my IBD. She put Compazine in my IV, and I immediately sat up and screamed, 'What did you give me??' I was literally crawling out of my skin and started with this full-body restless leg thing and could not stop moving. Which was horrible because I had JUST come out of surgery and had multiple abdominal incisions. It went on for hours, sleep was out of the question, and they didn't bother to speak with the pharmacy to see if there was something that could reverse it or alleviate the symptoms. The resident was like, 'Gee - not sure what that's all about.' I later told my PCP, and she immediately listed it as an allergy in my chart. Never. Ever. Again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for stomach pains and nausea. I am allergic to so many pain medicines that there is little I can take. They gave me Compazine, and as they put it in my IV, they told me it could cause severe anxiety in some people. Well, I can tell you now, it was horrific. I have had one major panic attack in my life, and this was 20 times worse. I started pulling off my clothes and ripped the IV out. They had to give me a big dose of Benadryl to 'reverse' the effects. Please, please think twice and consider other choices before taking this!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Took this for a migraine cycle, and while it helped with the migraine. When the nurse gave it to me, it made my heart race, and it made me have the worst panic attack. I couldn’t stay still because my legs were restless, and I was extremely hot and loopy. I won’t take this again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this for migraines. I was stationed in Hampton Roads, VA, doing my time in the Navy. I had a TBI in Bahrain and was sent to Virginia for various medical treatments. I had blackouts and severe migraines that made me see spots at least 3-5 times a week. It was pure hell, so I thought. I would try to tolerate it the best I could, and I began frequenting the hospital where I received this drug. It took some time to figure out which drug I was having the horrendous side effects from. Portsmouth Naval issued me a 'cocktail,' as they called it, with this drug included. Over a few experiences with various doctors, I figured out this drug was the culprit. This drug made me feel like something terrible was crawling under my skin. 6 hours of hell."

For Nausea/Vomiting "My doc gave me this medication over 20 years ago for nausea. I ended up having an allergic reaction. I had anxiety, and I couldn’t relax all day. I went to the hospital because of dystonia. Awful day. It also induced OCD, which I have been dealing with ever since. Has this terrible medication triggered OCD in others?"

For Nausea/Vomiting "This drug made me feel worse than any drug I ever received. I had a migraine and was at the A&E. It was pure mortal terror from the minute they went into my vein. I had them stop the infusion immediately, but it was too late. My heart rate shot up, and I felt like I was going to die right there on the bed. Sleep came on and off, but not because of being relaxed. More like passing out repeatedly. I slept for 24 hours and still feel pretty horrible the next day."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this awful medication in a migraine cocktail. Within minutes, I was so anxious that I yanked my IV out and ran out of the hospital room. For hours, I couldn't stop moving my legs. It's been 3 days, and I'm still so anxious. I made the pharmacy write in notes that I was allergic to Compazine - prochlorperazine, so this never happens again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This medication does help out a lot when you have nausea. I have taken a lot of different medications before, and this is the first one in seven years that has actually worked for me. The only side effect that I get from it is being tired after taking it, but it is so much better than being sick to my stomach."
