For Nausea/Vomiting "I was taking Zofran for years for severe nausea. During a hospital stay, I was given Reglan and had horrible hallucinations, and my skin was crawling, like some people in the reviews had with Prochlorperazine. However, Zofran stopped working for me during the last bout of nausea, so my doc gave me Prochlorperazine, which helped tremendously, and thankfully, I had no side effects."

"I went to the ER for a migraine and was given this medication combined with Benadryl. It basically induced a panic attack, and I felt as if I couldn't breathe properly. It was awful, especially as I wasn't anxious about being in the ER, but after taking Compazine, I just wanted to leave."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This was, like many others on here have said, a terrifying ER experience. I was given Compazine for what they thought was a migraine, plus Benadryl because they warned me about the anxiety. Upon giving it to me via IV, I felt a wave of panic enter my body. My heart stopped for a moment. I immediately wanted to get out of the hospital and tried to rip my IV out. I thought that would be the end of it. But it wasn't. I had crippling anxiety over the next 5 days! Yes, FIVE days. I had constant panic attacks where I would have to stop driving and pull over. One time I almost fainted during a meeting and had to go to the clinic. This drug made me dizzy, lightheaded, feeling like I was going to pass out all the time, gave me the strangest head pressure/tingling feeling, heart racing constantly. I will never ever take this drug again. Worst experience."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Read the side effects carefully. I had a severe dystonic reaction and had to spend the day in the emergency room after just 1 pill. I have been advised by my doctor to never even take anything in this family of medicines."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given a migraine cocktail that had Compazine included in it. This medication made my symptoms a million times worse! I started with my heart pounding and a severe anxious feeling immediately. I was given this med through an IV. It literally felt like an instant panic attack. It's been 4 days now, and I still am having spontaneous bouts of anxiety due to this medication. The half-life is 24 hours with this med, and it's been well over 96 hours since I was administered it, and I'm still experiencing side effects. I also got low blood pressure, which gave me cold sweats, disorientation, and I was freezing. My only relief was from hot baths, which made my blood pressure go up some. I also had dissociation, as if I wasn't even myself, from this medication. I cannot stress enough how awful this medication is, and it should NOT be used as nausea relief unless it's for EXTREME circumstances. This medication is used in people with schizophrenia! I am still not myself days after, and it's miserable."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER for a severe migraine... They gave me Compazine and Benadryl. 20 min later I was in a severe panic... ripping my IVs out. Calling out to the nurse, saying I was leaving!! They had to give me more Benadryl to reverse it. I left the hospital feeling worse than I did when I went in!! Horrible experience!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had experienced high agitation and restlessness with this drug before, so it’s been on my allergy list. Unfortunately, I was going through a difficult procedure, and it’s the only anti-emetic this office offered. It had been over 10 years since I took it, so I figured I’d try it again. Bad idea. This drug causes severe anxiety, agitation, muscle pain, and a general feeling of needing to rip out of your skin! I remember now why it was on my DO NOT USE list, the effects stay with you for a long time too. I will never take this again. There’s a reason it’s listed as a mental health drug/antipsychotic. In my opinion, it MAKES you psychotic."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the doctor because of my dizziness and nausea. The doctor had prescribed Compazine to me for my nausea, which didn’t even work. Jump forward a few days, and I go to the ER to see if they can do something about it when I noticed I started having seizure-like attacks, where my body would stay in one position and my eyes would roll to the back of my head. The doctor said it was because I was allergic to the drug, even though I didn’t know. But isn’t Compazine supposed to no longer be sold?"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have been dealing with chronic nausea/vomiting for almost a year. I have had every test in the book, and they all come back negative. I've tried medications for irritable bowel syndrome, and I've tried Phenergan and Zofran, none of which worked. I also used the transdermal Scopolamine patch, which helped a little. Finally, my doctor prescribed Compazine suppository, and I have had great relief of my nausea/vomiting. I hope to be able to stay on this for a long time. It is a wonder medicine."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I'm just getting this medicine for a headache cocktail. And let me tell you, I wanted to jump out of my own skin. I have never felt anything like it, it was absolutely horrible. Do not let them give you this medicine, especially if you have anxiety, which I have, and they knew that because I told them. Absolutely horrible, like your legs have bugs all in them, and they're just crawling everywhere. Never, ever again!!!!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Compazine along with Tramadol via IV at the ER to help treat a bad migraine. As soon as they put it in my IV, I wanted to rip it out and leave. My mom was with me, and I stayed a few more hours until my bloodwork came back. I finally got discharged and just wanted to go home and sleep, but of course I couldn’t. I was jittery and shaky. I was pacing back and forth in my room. I couldn’t sit still. I can’t find the words to describe exactly what I felt, but I basically felt so uncomfortable and like I was going insane at the same time. I went back, and they gave me Benadryl, which did absolutely nothing. Luckily my mom had some leftover Lorazepam, which finally gave me some relief and allowed me to sleep. It took 2 days for the worst of it to wear off, but now, 6 days later, I still don’t feel 100% back to normal yet. I will never take this medication ever again, and I hope it gets taken off the market soon. I hope no one else ever has to experience what I did."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given this drug in the ER for a migraine and nausea, they didn’t tell me what they were given, and I had the worst headache and didn’t even ask. Lo and behold, this medicine ruined my life after one dose!!! Was given with Benadryl, and I felt extremely anxious, panicky, my legs and body were so restless I thought I was gonna die on the CT table. I couldn’t put words together. It’s been 5 days, and I’m still not the same: panic attacks galore, anxiety, tight band around head/headache, fear of doom, and dizziness galore. This should be illegal."

"I went to the ER with the worst headache of my life. After a spinal tap, the doctors determined I had encephalitis. The pain I felt from that and the spinal tap were bad enough, but even that wasn’t as bad as the pure dread that Compazine made me feel. Prior to administering it, my nurse warned me that some people can have a bad reaction to the drug, but she said Benadryl typically counteracted those negative side effects. I wish I’d had the sense to ask more questions first! Within five minutes of taking it, I felt like I needed to crawl out of my own skin. I’m a pretty calm person with a good grip on my emotions, but I felt like I lost all control in that moment. I screamed at my nurse and told her to get it out of me. Knowing now that they could’ve given me Ativan to calm me down irritates me a little because they made me lay there and suffer through it for hours. Luckily, the side effects didn’t last more than a few hours, but it felt like an eternity."

For Psychosis "First and last time I ever received IV Compazine. Within minutes of hitting my veins, I was severely anxious, like an acute psychosis. I jumped up from the bed and said, 'I gotta get out of here, I gotta go.' My husband was like, 'What the hell did they just put in your IV?' He called the RN in, and he gave me IV Benadryl, which did not help me. For the next 3 days, I was out of my mind, could not function, and honestly was scared to be alone for fear I may have hurt myself! My husband stayed home to care for me and make sure I did not hurt myself or take off running. Oral Benadryl and oral Ativan--nothing took the feeling away. Absolutely awful! I have never in my life had feelings of hurting myself or dealt with any mental health issues, it was completely terrifying! I don't understand why this medication is still on the market honestly!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was born with chronic pancreatitis and chronic migraines, so vomiting is a for sure thing every time I visit the ER. I have never in my life been traumatized by a medication until this encounter. It is like we are their lab rats, you feel helpless, insane, delusional, 51-50, a psychopath. You literally feel trapped inside your body, if that makes any sense. I try to hold my composure off this medication because it literally makes you crazy. It should be illegal for them to inject you with it without a warning on the side effects. You feel so weird for 3 days, it’s as if your innocence has been robbed from you, a form of violation."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Demerol and Compazine to combat migraine and experienced severe agitation. The doctor recognized phenothiazine-induced akathisia and countered it with Benadryl and Ativan. Years later, I was again treated for HA. I double-checked the doctor knew I couldn't take Compazine. He ordered chlorpromazine and Valium. Unfamiliar with the generic, I didn't realize it was Thorazine (in the same class as Compazine). Another bad reaction. I pulled the IV out, fled, and paced at home for 15 hours. Surely, the doctor knew I'd react negatively. A couple years later, back to the ER for the first time since the Thorazine. I explained my reactions in detail. This time I was given Reglan. Again, I ripped out the IV and was headed for the door when the nurse caught me. Repeated doses of an antidote worked. I learned, subsequently, it's common to react badly to Reglan if you reacted to Compazine. Either the doctor was poorly informed or simply willing to risk my well-being. I've suffered at home in silence ever since."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was in the ER due to a severe migraine that couldn’t be controlled with my prescriptions that I usually take. They gave me Compazine for the nausea/vomiting. It was the most awful thing ever. I became so restless. I felt like I had to leave and go home. I couldn’t sit still, and I felt like I constantly needed to pace the room. I felt like I was going crazy, and like I was about to rip my hair out. (I didn’t.) I will avoid this medicine at all costs. I don’t even know if it helped the nausea/vomiting because it made me feel so weird."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I am nine weeks pregnant, and I went into the hospital last night with severe nausea and vomiting. I hadn’t eaten anything for almost 3 days and was down 5 pounds. I was having a migraine from dehydration, and they gave me IV Compazine, and within four minutes, I was feeling like I wanted to step out of my own body. I had severe anxiety, I felt like I wanted to rip out my IV and run home as fast as I could. I had this overwhelming sense of being so unbelievably uncomfortable that I couldn’t close my eyes because I was so panicky and so shaky, so uncomfortable I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I will absolutely never take this medication again. It’s been almost 24 hours since that medication was given to me, and I’m just now starting to feel back to my old self again. Needless to say, I’m on Zofran now for my nausea, and you couldn’t pay me to take Compazine again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Worse experience ever. I had been experiencing morning sickness and vomiting while pregnant and had gone to the ER. I had been given Compazine through an IV along with some fluids. Within a short amount of time, I felt awful, a tremendous amount of anxiety came over me where I could not relax or even think to the point of functioning. Felt like jumping out of my body. There must be some legal consequences and responsibility behind this medication and what it has caused. No one should have to go through this, nor do I think it’s safe for anyone, especially while pregnant."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was in the hospital suffering from post-lumbar puncture headache and nausea/severe vomiting. IV Zofran did nothing, IV Reglan did nothing, only the IV Compazine gave me relief. Granted, as soon as it ran out, I started up again, but at least it allowed me a few hours of peace to sleep."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the hospital due to a severe migraine and nausea. I was given Compazine via I.V. Oh dear! I immediately began having chattering teeth, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable clenching of teeth. I also could not remain still, as if I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. I called the nurse in, and the response was, 'Oh, yeah, you feel kinda outta it?' Well, yes, it will pass, don't worry! ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW! It's just by the grace of God that I got home safely. My teeth continued to chatter, and I could not sit still! I had to go back to the ER to get medicine to counter the side effects. I feel a little better now. Day 2 and still feel out of it. I WILL NEVER TAKE Compazine again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I took this for my extreme amount of nausea causing anxiety. It did wonders for my nausea! It was wonderful and like a miracle. Until the third time I took it... I had the worst experience of my life. My jaw got locked and stuck to one side, my eyes got locked looking upwards, and I couldn't move them. My jaw felt as if it was trying to break itself and was so painful. I ended up sticking my finger down my throat to make myself vomit up the drug. It continued to lock my jaw up off and on for the next 48 hours. Never again. Be careful of the side effects. Worked wonders for my nausea and vomiting, but I would rather be throwing up than experience those side effects."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given Compazine for the first time in the ER. It was mixed in a cocktail for my headache. After 3 minutes, I started feeling uneasy, and I started to have a full panic attack. I’ve never felt that in my life! I ripped my IV out of my arm and started kicking the walls and stomping, they thought I was insane! I told them it was the medicine, they didn’t do anything, just released me, and I felt like my skin was crawling for 3 days. Was the absolute worst experience of my whole life!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I wish I could give this drug 0/10 stars. This is not a drug that I would give to my worst enemy-and I have tried many drugs for migraines! I was given this with the migraine cocktail in the ER, which also includes Benadryl and Toradol. I experienced extreme anxiety and restlessness. I wanted to rip the IV out of my arm and run out of the hospital... not that I could have done this anyway because it caused me to have extrapyramidal and dystonic side effects! When I got discharged from the ER, this was the worst night of my life. My friend had to sleep over because I was freaking out. The side effects lasted for 2 days."
