For Chronic Pain "I've been on OxyContin for 8 months. I take it to help with RSD pain in my shoulder that radiates all down my arm and into my hand. I have trouble taking high doses of nerve medications like gabapentin, so a narcotic is necessary. It definitely helps a lot. However, it does not last 12 hours. I have oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I also have tried taking 3 doses of OxyContin a day (per doctor's orders) and that keeps it from running out. The problem with a triple dose is drowsiness; I started to have trouble tolerating that. But overall, this has been a lifesaver for me."

For Chronic Pain "I have been on OxyContin since 2003 on a daily basis. I have chronic abdominal discomfort because I had my large intestine removed due to chronic ulcerative colitis. I also have had degenerative disc disease since 1998. I've had to have my right hip replaced due to an injury in 2008, and I have chronic sciatic nerve pain in my left hip that runs down to my foot. I found this drug to be more effective than any rehabilitation or needle injection that I've ever had. I have tried many different treatments like injections and physical rehab, but I get the best pain relief from taking 3 - 60 mg OxyContin every 8 hours and 10 mg oxycodone IR pills every 4 to 6 hours daily for increased pain and discomfort. The bad part is I lost most of my teeth."

For Chronic Pain "This is still a life-saving drug. OxyContin 40 mg 3X day and 10 mg IR oxycodone IR for instant relief. Been on it for over 24 years. Allows me to function in public and have some kind of life. Now Medicare makes it near impossible to afford it. Cut back to 20 mg 3X 10 mg IR and still hurting. Never abused it and was drug tested regularly. Now with no generic, only rich people can afford the best in pain management. Why do they always focus on the abusers? This is only by a doctor prescription. Blame the abusers, not punish the poor hurting people. Typical government, if it works, make sure poor people cannot afford it."

For Pain "OxyContin gave me my life back. I have taken literally every pain medicine combination known to man. This medicine is the one that has given me my ability to walk again without pain. My case was a very bad coal mining accident back in 2006. I have had five knee and leg surgeries, both shoulders reconstructed and my hips operated on three times. So I lived a very miserable life until I was put on this medicine by my family doctor. All the doctors at the pain clinic I was going to had me on medicines like Opana or Fentanyl and lots more."

For Chronic Pain "Initially, it was beneficial in easing my chronic pain until I had a recent back operation. Now I am being brought down from a dosage of 120 mg per day and now down to 25 mg per day. Coming off it has been particularly stressful coping with the withdrawal factor, but I have recognized the withdrawal symptoms and am learning to cope with them on a daily basis with the help of my GP, who has also become my counselor and is helping me with this painful regression of dosage. It has been a period of 4 months so far, and I am hopeful of being totally free of the medicine within that same time frame. Although it helped me to get through the pain until the operation, it has been a very painful process of withdrawal. If possible, an alternative medication would be advisable."

For Chronic Pain "Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, ileostomy to name a few. 10 mg slow release morning and night and 15 mg 4 times a day of immediate release. I also take other meds. My tiredness is caused by my condition, but life has been more bearable. Sadly, there is no cure, but I have some relief and can do small things like short trips on a mobility scooter."

For Pain "I too believe that this is a great drug. OxyContin has given me my life back. There is no way I would be able to work without taking it daily 60 mg x2 daily. I hate hearing how bad this is for you. I don't want anyone to know I take it because people think you are an addict."

For Pain "I was in a near-fatal car accident when I was 18. I was on morphine for 6 months. After 30 years, it is catching up to me. I am in some pain now most of the time. With oxycodone, I am able to make it through the day and work. Caution during use, if used for over 90 days, dependency could occur easily. Please be aware of this."

For Pain "I have been on OxyContin for about eight years now, and I rate it as life-saving. I can assure you that with four spinal surgeries and a failed hip replacement, no other drug, including morphine, has given me back the quality of life that OxyContin has."

For Chronic Pain "I was given OxyContin after morphine tablets didn't do much for the pain I was in. 90 mg SR morphine, and topped up with Oramorph throughout the day. Then transferred onto OxyContin, which was prescribed for me in a 40+20 mg dose of slow release and topped up with the liquid form for through the day, but when I needed a repeat prescription, I was told that I wouldn't be given any more. Even though I had taken these for over two months and the morphine for the four months previously. After reading some of the articles, I shouldn't have been taken off these straight away. So much for being professional doctors or just wanting to save money over patients' welfare."

For Pain "Five years ago, I was close to suicidal with pain and found a superb pain management doctor at the Beth Israel Pain & Palliative Care Unit in NYC. I HIGHLY recommend them. Recently, I began to feel pain again of the acute variety (I am always in some chronic pain). I said to my husband, 'It is as if this drug is not working at all.' I went today for my regular two-month check-up and told my doctor. He nodded and told me that many of his patients no longer get relief with OxyContin as the new formula (meant to keep abusers from crushing it) does not work well in ER form. I had not had to use more than the same dose for five years and was in relative comfort, given my disability, and now I have to try a higher dosage or change medication."

For Pain "I have scoliosis that causes severe pain. My spine is S-shaped. It's a pretty severe curve. Anyway, I've been to a number of doctors. Finally, I got a PM doc that prescribed a number of pain meds that did not work. I almost gave up until he prescribed OxyContin. What a relief! Now we have to adjust the dosage a bit, but finally got it perfect. I take 4 40mg pills a day and been on that same dose for about a year, and it is still working great. I am not building a tolerance to it at all."

For Pain "Well, I have been taking OxyContin 40 mg for 5 years now, and it has changed my life until a couple of weeks ago. Now, they don't work nearly as well as they did. They put a time release all the way through the pill, and it doesn't take the pain completely away now. I hope they change back because this has affected my life a lot!"

For Pain "I have fibromyalgia, and I'm 31. I'm on disability now because the job I had for 10 years said I couldn't work there because I take 2 x 10 mg a day of OxyContin. At least now I can live a life, play with my kids, wash my car, etc. Before, all I did was suffer at work, and my work performance was so poor they even tried to fire me or get me to resign."

For Pain "I have been on OxyContin for 8 years now. I have many problems, and I am disabled. They've tried me on several medicines before this, and nothing worked. I am so sensitive and allergic to a lot of medicines. But then they started me on OxyContin, and it has worked for me up until last month when they changed them. They are not as effective as they once were, and now I am suffering because of it."

For Chronic Pain "I suffer abdominal pain from 9 failed laparotomies to remove cysts and ovaries. I'm currently on 80 mg OxyContin 5 times a day, and Lyrica 2 times 450 mg daily, also for nerve damage. This just takes the edge off, it could be better, but I will try the patch, maybe all I need. I suffer from spinal problems as well as neck and knee issues. I'm a walking wounded, so to speak, lol."

For Chronic Pain "After an auto accident, I had numerous surgeries just to try to make me look halfway normal as opposed to some kind of monster, and it was horrible! The 1st week in the hospital, the pain was monstrous immediately after the initial surgical procedures, but no pain meds at all due to the concussion. It decreased a lot within the first week, but remained constant. The doctors said I had nerve damage in the cervical region, and that this would grow worse over time. By the time I was released, they gave me something called Talwin. It helped a little, but living in pain every hour, minute, and second was enough to make me consider suicide! I ended up taking 3 40 mg OxyContin a day, and amazingly, it worked very well! Believe me, ending it all is no alternative! It was the only thing that made living bearable! Thank God."

For Chronic Pain "I had 2 spinal fusions, one on 5-5-10 and the 2nd one 11-11-11, and they both have failed. This is my 1st time being on OxyContin. I was previously on 2 different strengths of oxycodone, which worked well for me, but pain management wanted me to be on OxyContin and oxycodone. Without my pain meds, I cannot get out of bed. I had 2 collapsed, bulging discs in my lower lumbar. I started out with a cage, and it never fused, now I have a plate, which is not taking. I have degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and many more problems. I have more bulging discs and a cracked vertebra, but I am really hesitant to have another back surgery due to the previous experiences."

For Chronic Pain "Good for breakthrough pain. Take 7 of the 30 mg a day and use 2-75 mcg of the Fentanyl patches as well for extended relief. It has been my best regimen so far, and I've tried a lot of different kinds and combinations to ease my pain. It's hard, though, because you can tell how much it helps when you miss a pill."

For Pain "I have been on OxyContin for over a year now, and it has helped me tremendously. Although I only take 30 mg XR three times a day and IR for breakthrough pain three times a day, I am not in pain most of the day. I awake in the morning feeling crappy, but take an IR, and within half an hour, I am fine. I do not feel 'high', I can function normally and even care for three grandchildren I am now raising. So, without this medication, I'd be on short-term pain medicines that do nothing but make you sleep. I was on Roxicodone for a year as well, and they took me off at my request because I needed pain medicines for the long term. I thank whoever is responsible for finding this medication for us, who depend on it, to let us lead normal (best of our ability) lives."

For Chronic Pain "I've been a chronic pain patient for 5 years now. The doctor said to try OxyContin. It would last longer. Tried it for a week. Bad choice for me as my pain in the morning was a 10, but after trying this pill, pain dropped to a 7, which is not terrible, but it's not good. Pills were supposed to last 12 hours, nope. Bedtime took the pill, and it helped me sleep. But I would wake up five times a night scratching myself. I think OxyContin is a bad choice. The oxycodone fast-acting pills work better because they work super fast. OxyContin is not what was advertised. I expected more out of this medication. I need fast-acting meds, period. I would say give OxyContin a chance, it may work for you, but don't get your hopes up like I did. On top of that, most won't cover it because of the government. The government is pushing back and does not want anybody on these powerful medications, and I can't afford to pay out of pocket at $3,000 per 100 pills. That just can't happen, and that is just way too much money, especially if on Medicaid or Medicare that are disabled."

For Chronic Pain "OxyContin was the only medicine that worked a miracle as far as I am concerned. I had taken it for 20+ years and did not have a single issue. Then I had to stop taking it due to insurance coverage and cost. I was switched to MS Contin, and it did not work even close to the OxyContin. Why was a necessary medicine taken away from those who genuinely needed it and showed fantastic results?"

For Pain "I started taking OxyContin over 3 years ago for chronic pain in my back, left leg, and foot. I have peripheral neuropathy, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, sciatic nerve injury, drop foot, and I have been told I have pinched nerves. All I know is that I have pain. I started taking 40 mg 3 times a day, then 80 mg twice a day, and now my doctor has me on morphine sulfate 100 mg 3 times a day. He said to do this I won't need to continue raising the dose of the OxyContin. The morphine sulfate has not helped as much as the OxyContin."

For Chronic Pain "I have been taking it for about 7 years. Started at 10 mg 2 times a day plus 7.5 mg Vicodin 3 times a day. Now taking 30 mg 2 times a day and 7.5 mg Norco 3 to 4 times a day. Before they changed the formula, it worked a lot better. It does give pain relief, but it doesn't last 12 hours, like they claim. I have a herniated disc in my back, also AVN in my hips. Just had my left hip totally replaced, now I need my right hip replaced before they will do surgery on my back."
