Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I’m 29 (female) and have a minor valve issue along with tachycardia. It surfaced as heart palpitations and my heart racing so fast I could barely breathe. I was taking metoprolol 25mg twice a day for almost 2 years. It was okay, but I still had symptoms off and on, sometimes they got bad. I had a bit of weight gain over time, nothing that seemed unhealthy, but then I developed extreme dryness/dehydration issues. I switched to some free samples of Bystolic 5mg and I’ve only been on it for 4 days, but so far I hope it works. It controls my heart way better than metoprolol, and my energy level is better. I feel myself again mentally, and I didn’t even realize I was feeling different before. Not to mention my bloating has gone down. Here’s hoping it works for me."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I’ve been on Bystolic 5 mg since March 2018 when I started to feel my heart flutter a couple of times a week. Besides the Bystolic, I’ve been on lisinopril 40 mg, pravastatin 20 mg, and 80 mg low-dose aspirin for about 5 years. I’ve noticed what feels like dizziness, lightheadedness, and disorientation, especially when I’m driving. And it always seems to be the right side of my head/face. Today I had really bad episode(s) going to work and driving home. I had to pull over to the side of the road this morning until it passed, but then it came back so quickly I couldn’t find a place to pull over, so I ended up driving the rest of the way to work verbalizing, 'you're okay, you're okay,' just to focus on something besides that feeling. The same thing happened on my way home. I’m terrified that I’m going to pass out or drive off the road and kill someone or myself. This med has also caused me to gain weight, lose focus and memory, diminished sex drive, and can’t fall asleep."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I have been on this medicine for a year now. I have recently realized (from seeing a new doctor) that I should not have been put on this medication. I have to see a cardiologist to get off of Bystolic 10!? Really!? I wish I knew that before I was prescribed this. It's never really kept my blood pressure in check 100%....so I wanted to stop taking it. But when my doctor said I had to see a specialist, I was annoyed. I have come to learn that this medication is why I have put on so much weight, feel so tired, deal with numb hands."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Bystolic did not help lower my blood pressure as my other blood pressure medicine just recently had to be doubled. I have taken the medicine for 10 months, and at my last doctor's appointment, I realized I have gained 22 pounds in the last 10 months without any changes to diet or activity level. Also, I have felt disconnected from my life and have had absolutely no sex drive. This medicine is not for me. I paid $50 a month for a drug that caused me to gain 22 pounds that I now have to lose."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "40 y/o, white female, moderately active. So far I'm happy with this medicine. Bystolic brought my blood pressure down from 200/110 to 124/74 and my heart rate from 120 to 48 on 10 mg (and 1 mg of Guanfacine). I have gained about 4 or 5 lbs during the 2 months I've been on it, but I can honestly say some of that is my own fault. I, too, have experienced a calming effect. Aside from the gained lbs, I have no complaints."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "It never helped my blood pressure, it caused nightmares and rapid weight gain. Ten pounds gained without changing diet. Severe pain in hip. Fatigue I had never had before. I felt as if I were what I would expect a 90-year-old to feel like! I started walking and took myself off the medication, and now my blood pressure is 106/76."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Took Bystolic 5mg for a month. At first, it seemed to be okay. I liked it because it did not make me dizzy, but by the third week, I started getting side effects. First off, I was so tired and had no energy, thought it was me, but no, it was Bystolic. Then my shoulder joints started aching and kind of running down to my wrist in both arms. Not too bad, but still there, and the last straw for me was when my left arm started to tingle on the outside of my forearm. Well, I started cutting them in half, so now I was taking 2.5 mg for the last week, and it made no difference. Every time I took the pill, hours later my arm would start tingling along with the other side effects. Also, another thing, it made me gain ten pounds in a month's time, also bloating."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "With all the blood pressure medications I've taken over the last 15 years, specifically beta blockers, Bystolic has been the best match for me. I was originally placed on beta blockers to control the rate of my heart since I have PSVTs, which also increased my BP during those episodes. While I do work nights, I have gained weight since taking beta blockers. With Bystolic, I do feel less tired and able to keep moving, climb stairs easier, and my weight gain has stopped. My BP is usually 120s/70-80. The cons of this drug, and to be fair, all beta blockers, I have horrendous nightmares. I have to take a sleeping pill, Lunesta, for that!"

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I'm a 30-year-old male, former college athlete, large frame and build. Fourteen months ago, I started Lisinopril and another beta blocker on a recommendation from my cardiologist PA after determining I have essential hypertension and was having issues with panic attacks and tachycardia. After about a month, I complained of the side effects of the beta blocker and it switched me to Bystolic 5 mg. I noticed that I slowly began to gain weight, but I thought it was possibly just a lifestyle problem. My instances of tachycardia and also my blood pressure both went down with the medication. The side effects I learned to live with were sleeplessness, dizziness, foggy memory, severe dehydration, especially after alcohol or a big meal, some ED, and just overall lethargy and cloudiness. And the weight gain. But I hung on to Bystolic out of fear for my cardiovascular system."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Not worth the side effects. Works great for lowering heart rate, BP, and anxiety. Causes horrible weight gain that is impossible to lose while taking the medicine. Also causes shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest pains, to the point I now use an inhaler. Severe depression. I never had before. Numbness in hands, water retention, especially in ankles, raised cholesterol, extreme fatigue and lack of motivation, and night sweats. Hoping to come off it soon."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Took Bystolic 5 mg for a year. Episodes short of breath while exercising. Progressively tired with no energy. A general feeling of unwellness. To top it off, each month, it controlled my BP less and less. And I gained 30 lbs. Never had any of these issues before! Switched to Atenolol 25 mg. Still tired, but the feeling of unwellness is gone. No more breathing issues while exercising. BP is controlled well. However, my hair is starting to thin (never had hair issues before). My plan is to stay on Atenolol for now, force myself to start exercising again, tired or not, lose the weight, and start natural supplements to lower BP. Hopefully, once I lose weight and exercise more, I can get off the nightmare BP meds. I want my life back again. :("

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I was taking carvedilol 3.125 mg bid, and it stopped working shortly after starting a stressful job and a death in my family. I wasn't able to get it under control, so my cardiologist started me on Bystolic 10 mg qd. I was pleased with its quick results, bringing my BP down to the normal range. Now I have realized that I am tired all the time, I have no sex drive, and I don't really care about much of anything. I can sleep all day on my days off. I have gained 30 lbs over the last year! I got my old rx filled today for the carvedilol, and along with diet and exercise, I'm hoping to get back to my old self again. I can't deal with the fatigue anymore. Not to mention the price of $60 per month."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am a 44-year-old female. My doctor put me on Bystolic in February 2010. I read all the reviews and was nervous about some of the side effects, such as weight gain. However, I have found that I love this medicine! It has been very effective in lowering my blood pressure! The only thing now is that I am now so physically fit aerobically from increasing my exercise regimen that now my blood pressure and pulse rate seem to be pretty low. (Sometimes in the 109/65 range and upper 40s to high 50s range heart rate) that I think my dosage might need to be reduced. Also, there is a profound calming effect with this medicine. I encourage anyone to try it!"

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am a 22-year-old male. Parents and grandparents both had high blood pressure and passed it right on to me. I have been taking Bystolic for about a year now and had excellent blood pressure. HOWEVER, I am extremely tired all of the time. If I do not get at least 9 hours of sleep, I am tired through the day. Before I started taking it, I was fine on 7 hours of sleep. I even have to take naps sometimes because I just can't stay awake. I have chest pain about once a week that lasts for an hour or so. Doesn't hurt, but very uncomfortable. Also, I have gained about 25 pounds in the past year. Blood pressure is good, but side effects are rough."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am an almost 77-year-old lady and being treated for atrial fibrillation and hypertension. Bystolic has effectively controlled my high pulse rate and lowered my blood pressure, but it makes me terribly tired. I think I will try taking the medicines at night in hope that I can sleep the tiredness off. I was so interested in the weight gain comments. Now I have something to blame those extra pounds on!"

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I'm a white male, 27 years old. High blood pressure runs in my family on both sides. I've had high blood pressure since I was 23. I started with Norvasc 5 mg, and it was controlling it. When I turned 26, it got worse to stage 2 hypertensive, and I got put on Norvasc 10 mg. Had bad side effects from my knees down. I got badly swollen knees, calves, ankles, and toes. Then I was switched to Bystolic 5 mg with a combination of Benicar HCT 20/12.5. Within days, I had a drastic difference in my blood pressure. I had one side effect. I gained 15 pounds no matter my diet and exercise. My blood pressure went higher again, and I was switched to Bystolic 10 mg along with Benicar HCT for the last 2 months, and I went from my BP at 160/105 to a nice calm 130/85. With zero side effects, and I've never felt better."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "The Bystolic did lower my b/p, but I have had a 30 lb weight gain that has been deemed 'metabolic syndrome' by my physician. He did a complete blood panel. My HDL is lower than it has been in 15 years, I have no thyroid problems. According to him, the only thing it could be is the medication has slowed my heart rate 20 beats at resting. I walk nearly 2 miles every day, up and down hill on the family farm, I can barely get a 120 heart rate. My legs and butt look great, my upper abdominal and thoracic area has increased by 10 inches. I had never had fat in the thoracic area until I started this medication. Upon reading the hypoglycemic side effect and the warning about multiple severe allergy 'anaphylaxis' treatment, I don't know why my MD recommended it."

For High Blood Pressure "Don't ever take this beta blocker. I have tried Toprol and had side effects. I am on 10 mg of Bystolic and having a hard time getting off of it. Causes nightmares, weight gain, depression, and panic attacks - and getting off it - there is literally no help out there. I am doing massage and acupuncture - stuff this drug. Don't ever take it."

For High Blood Pressure "Being a former heavy smoker, I had HBP (high blood pressure) and had been on 40 mg Micardis since 1995. Three years ago, my pulse had been really high, 100 to 120+, and I always feel tired because of my racing heart, and I can feel a fluttering feeling in my chest. My cardiologist shifted me to carvedilol two years ago, and all was well except it gave me ED. I heard about nebivolol and asked my daughter, who is a physician, if I could swap to it. She agreed, and now I always have 120/80, and my pulse is 58-70! Very happy, no untoward side effects on me at all (so far), but a bit concerned after reading here that it may cause weight gain."

For High Blood Pressure "Dosage 1.25 mg. Was added to my other 2 bp medications in the hope it would bring my bp down and help slow down my kidney failure. I've never felt so ill. Feeling faint, diarrhea, constant tummy ache, weight gain. When I next did bloods for CKD, GFR had dropped even more."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I was having trouble with my previous blood pressure med. So my MD office put me on Bystolic to try and gave me a month's worth of samples. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay a copayment. It didn't bring down my blood pressure at all. I gained 8 lbs in 4 weeks from fluid retention. I'm tired all the time when I took it, and I have wheezes from being short of breath. And I needed to be taken off of work for 2-3 weeks because of the fluid retention in my legs. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. It gave me nothing but grief and side effects are scary, and they don't go away instantly, it takes a few weeks for them to leave my system. Please don't take this medicine."
