For Allergic Rhinitis "I am 29. Singulair alleviated my seasonal allergies in the beginning for a period of 2 weeks maybe. After that, I had the opposite reaction, was having a hard time breathing, and my nose and throat were dry all the time. I stayed on it thinking it was something else, then I decided to quit it because after a regular run, it triggered tachycardia. This was something I never had before, I am a healthy guy, used to push myself hard during workouts. Once I stopped, there were no issues with a dry nose or anything else. Guess I'm one of the minority that have adverse reactions to it."

For Asthma "Asthma and allergies. I have both. I've tried every steroid and bronchial dilator inhaler and had awful side effects. I can only take tablet steroids short term for the asthma. Allergy-wise, I've tried Flonase, Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, all of it, and still have bad drainage and cough. So, my doctor prescribed Singulair. I vaguely remember being on it as a teenager, and I remembered I was taken off it. He said, "try it again now as an adult." Well, I had awful anxiety and panic attacks starting from the first dose. By a few days into it, I had been constantly battling the anxiety, and one night had a full hallucination. I thought, for sure, I heard someone in my house. I was up looking everywhere, freaking out. I'm a single parent, I can't be going crazy to feel better! So, within 1 week, I had to stop it. I did notice the post-nasal drip was a bit better, and my asthma cough at night was still there, but not as severe as it was. No idea what we will try next. It was scary and frustrating."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Singulair was wonderful for my allergies. My allergies are only in my ears, causing popping, crackling, clogging, and pulling. From the 1st dose, I felt better and kept improving until my ears were better than they had been in months. Unfortunately, on day 10, I developed tremors in my hands and lower arms. The tremors turned into shaking when I tried to use my arms/hands. My legs felt detached from my body. So it was wonderful for my allergies but horrible for side effects. Hopefully, it won't take too long to get out of my system so the tremors stop."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I had constant sinus infections caused by allergies. Tried several medications, but nothing would work. Doctor finally prescribed Singulair, and I have had relief ever since. The only problem is the medicine can make me very irritable to the point that my wife cannot stand me, and sometimes Singulair can cause insomnia."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Now, 67 years old, my health plan only permits generic montelukast medication (generic Singulair). I had a very bad experience with this medication. Suffered insomnia, anxiety, and, being with insomnia all night, went into a deep sleep. When my daughter arrived, I had a memory lapse, and being questioned by my daughter, I was giving incoherent replies. After being questioned for a while, I regained consciousness of my daily routine. I imagine I had a blackout experience. Now I'm trying to get original Singulair since I did use it before when I was younger and had none of this experience. I did quit taking this generic form of montelukast medication since the next day after quitting, I slept very well. I will try to purchase Singulair in its original form."

For Allergic Rhinitis "This medication really helped my allergies! It was so severe this year I was constantly uncomfortable. Felt like I couldn’t breathe. I was starting to think I had come down with the flu or another illness. This medication helped my allergies so much, I was a mess, I couldn’t even sleep! The best medication I’ve ever taken for allergies!! No side effects! 10 / 10."

For Allergic Rhinitis "This drug did nothing for my stuffy nose, cold, cough, and wheezing, but the side effects are horrible. After less than a week of taking it, I could not sleep, was unable to focus, had a panic attack at the grocery store with sweating and dizziness, felt like I was going to faint, was very tired and achy. I did not connect it to the drug at first, but then I went to take it, and it dawned on me that maybe I should check out the side effects. These are all side effects of the medication. I had lost my mother about a month ago, and I kept thinking I was just not coping well, but once I stopped taking the medication, I was able to sleep and the sweating and dizziness went away. My aches are much less as well."

For Asthma "My son has had asthma from the beginning, he was placed on Singulair at 18 months. It did seem to help, but he has now developed side effects, and we have taken him off of it. He becomes very agitated and aggressive. He is normally a very calm and sweet child. It took a while to put two and two together. We took him off, and his sweet nature came back. Truthfully, it scared me how much this medicine affected his mood. It works great for asthma, but we won't use it anymore."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I had been using inhalers - steroid (Serevent) and fast-acting ones for many years. I couldn't climb stairs without needing a 'puff.' I couldn't play with the kids without having to stop often. After one serious attack, I had to use an atomizer at the doctor's office, and I started Singulair the next day. I have not used or carried an inhaler for almost 10 years now. It has changed my life. I can run with my kids, walk up stairs, shovel snow, etc."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Our seven-year-old has severe bronchial inflammation due to a reactive airway. He had severe asthma reactions where he was full of mucus and fighting to breathe. The first day on Singulair, he was tired and grouchy, but has had no side effects, sleeps soundly, and has had perfect success with it, along with a daily asthma inhaler. A great relief."

For Allergic Rhinitis "After using Singulair for only 4 days, I was bragging about it to my friends who suffer from frequent allergy symptoms. It was prescribed both as allergy relief and asthma prevention. In these spring months, I have only sneezed about 6 times, and the itchy eyes and runny or stuffy nose are gone. It reappears if I forget a dose, so I attribute the relief to Singulair. As far as it preventing asthma for me, I can't comment yet, as I am also taking Advair to prevent asthma. The doctor has lowered my dosage of Advair, and I hope to soon be able to discontinue the Advair and stay with Singulair. The listed side effects are many, but I think I've only noticed one so far (water retention in ankles)."

For Allergic Rhinitis "After 1 dose, I woke up at 3 a.m. with severe chest pains and diarrhea. I could not hold my urination until I made it to the bathroom. Finally, I fell asleep with my adjustable bed raised to sitting. The pains stayed throughout the night and more pains today. The chest pains subsided. Today, I am nervous, anxious, and still in bed at 6 p.m."

For Asthma, Maintenance "With Singulair, I don't have to take any inhalers, although my doctor tells me I should have them close by just in case. I haven't had to use a rescue inhaler for over 2 years. I don't need a steroid inhaler either. I had an anaphylactic reaction from allergy shots, so oral medicines are the way to go for me. Now I only have to take Allegra and Singulair, and I am virtually symptom-free after years of frustration and near death."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Although Singulair 10 mg tablets work great for me on a daily, regular basis for maintenance issues with asthma, I have found that one of its side effects has appeared. At first, it was not connected until recently when information came out that Singulair could cause ear infections. This particular side effect appeared about 3-4 months after starting Singulair, but no connection was made until recently after using it for two years. So be aware of side effects and keep close tabs on usage results."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I am a 46-year-old woman that suffers from severe allergies and severe asthma since I was 12. I have been taking the generic Singulair forever. It does nothing for me. I only take it because both my PCP and pulmonologist insist I take it. I am miserable every day. I still have to take a generic form of Actifed to get any relief. None of the others help either. Zyrtec, Allegra, and Claritin are worthless for me too. I am happy for anyone this drug helps. It is worthless to me. :-("

For Asthma, Maintenance "Singulair caused suicidality for me. But it was a very strange kind of suicidality because it was very cold and intense. I didn’t feel super distressed, or sad, or even depressed, I just felt very clear that I should plan for my death and make it happen. Luckily, I realized that was weird and connected to the medication. As soon as I stopped the medication, the suicidal ideation went away. This medication could’ve literally cost me my life, and it shouldn’t be on the market."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Before I started on Singulair, I would have several serious asthma flares every year requiring prednisone treatment. Since starting Singulair several years ago, I have only had one serious asthma flare. My allergic rhinitis is also much better controlled."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I used to get Singulair through Medicaid/Medicare, but it's no longer available through that source. I would have to pay, which I can't afford to do. However, I am a satisfied ex-customer, and that is the best medicine I have ever taken for my allergy problem. It eliminated my use of my rescue inhaler daily as in the past. I noticed that I could go a few days, or weeks, even months without even taking the Singulair most of the time. Singulair helped very well to keep my allergy symptoms away and at bay. I now take a generic brand, and it is not the same, and I still have to use my rescue inhaler more than I did when I used Singulair. I would recommend Singulair to anyone."

For Asthma "I was on this for a year with no improvement in my asthma. Two days after getting off of it, I began to have horrific withdrawals, including severe headaches, exhaustion, irritability, weepiness, depression, lightning shocks throughout my body, severe body aches, and inability to sleep. The worst seems to have occurred for 48 hours straight, with no signs of fever or sore throat to indicate flu. After seeing others in forums, it seems to be this medication."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I had an allergic reaction to several medications, each including Yellow #6 and Yellow #10 dyes in the gel coating on the medications. The reaction was a rash on my stomach along the waistband of my underwear and my pants, under my bra band, my armpits. Anywhere there was a lot of warmth on my body or a lot of chafing from clothing. The rash was also darkly pigmented. Each time I stopped a medication that gave me a rash, it took approximately 8-9 weeks for the rash to go away. After figuring out what was causing it, my doctor prescribed Singulair (chewable) combined with Atarax. The Atarax was to help me sleep and keep from scratching at night. After 10 days, the rash is gone. I can stop the medication in another week or so."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have been taking Singulair on and off for years. In the last two years, I have had four severe asthma attacks, and the Singulair has not helped. It may have helped my allergic rhinitis, but it does not help my asthma. I will probably stop it."

For Asthma "I recently was on prednisone for over a week because I could barely breathe (in spite of taking 500 mg of Advair 2/day and Maxair several times a day). Towards the end of my steroids, I was still breathing very poorly, but then I started taking Singulair, and immediately my breathing became absolutely normal with not one hint of wheezing or breathing difficulty. Also, my nasal allergies/sinuses have improved considerably since I started Singulair. On the other hand, I have noticed pain in my ear (possible ear infection), and my mood appears to be a bit more aggressive than it was before taking Singulair. Overall, I would highly recommend it."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Been taking Singulair for about 10 days for chronic sinusitis. The first day I felt better within an hour of taking 10 mg. Have continued taking it every day since, with no noticeable improvement. Tried pairing it with Zyrtec, then Claritin. No change. Going to pair with Xyzal next, but I have low expectations."
