For Allergic Rhinitis "Seems to control my stuffy nose and coughing, but I have been getting terrible leg pain and knee pain. Not sure if this is a side effect or not. I really enjoy the help it gives me, but the pain in legs is making me want to stop using this."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've been stepping up and up since I was diagnosed with asthma. First, it was just Ventolin, then we added Clenil Modulite, then Seretide 50/25 at Christmas, up to Seretide 125/25 a few weeks later, adding in Avamys nasal spray for hay fever and Acrivastine for hay fever and Type 1 latex allergy, then finally adding on Montelukast. Sadly, unlike some of the other people on here, I haven't been able to get down to just Montelukast. However, I'd say it's a miracle pill! I play ice hockey, and overnight I went from tight chest and coughing and wheezing after hockey (I have CVA, so wheezing is weird) to being totally fine. I still struggle if I max out, so I have to change out regularly, but I play forward, so that's easy enough. It's just great!!!"

For Asthma "I was started on it after the first acute sudden asthma attack of my life, and the inhalers weren't working... which landed me in the emergency room and had some continuing lung spasms in the weeks following this. Once on it, for the first time in many years, I was no longer waking up wheezing and with shortness of breath at night. It's been wonderful! Fortunately, I have never had any of the side effects noted by others. I remember feeling early on that Singulair may have contributed to weight gain, but it was very hard to tell as I was at that age - late 40s - when this begins to happen naturally. If so, I certainly would have preferred not to gain weight, but the benefits of having a 'normal' life with Singulair have been fantastic."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I started taking Singulair 2 weeks ago because of sinus headaches, red, itchy eyes, and allergies. Also, I use Zyrtec and Patanol. It has worked great until I figured out that the stomachache I have had for the last 10 days is because of it. I have stopped the medicine."

For Allergic Rhinitis "For the last 6 months, I have had allergies like never before in my 32 years. Constant nasal congestion and dry coughing. I have been miserable. OTC antihistamines were not cutting it, so my doctor put me on Xyzal and Azelastine back in June. This improved my congestion, but after catching a cold in July, I ended up with the same symptoms and a dry cough that would not go away. It kept me up at night, and I was miserable. He put me on Singulair, and since then, the congestion has improved and I can sleep through the night without coughing!"

For Asthma "I found it really helped my asthma and has made a big difference in the quality of my life. However, what I would say is that it did cause mood changes with me; these were very noticeable for the first few weeks. It felt like I had drunk 10 tins of Red Bull. I was very confrontational; this subsided greatly, though, and in some ways made me more confident. I never take the tablets in the morning, though, always at night, or I will kick off for the slightest thing, which is totally out of character for me."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Singulair has been a godsend to help control my daily asthma symptoms due to allergenic/mold triggers. I haven't noticed it make a difference with exercise or smoke triggers, but it definitely helps reduce frequency/severity of asthma symptoms in general. If I take a few days to pick up my prescription, I can absolutely feel a difference in my lung health. I've been waiting the past few days to get the entire prescription renewed with my doctor, and I had a nighttime attack last night for the first time since I started taking the medicine (it's been six days since I last took it). I have not experienced any mood changes even though I already had diagnosed anxiety when I started the medication or any other adverse side effects."

For Asthma "Went to the hospital during an asthma attack. I was only on albuterol, and it was not working during this episode. Long story short, I got prescribed Singulair. Made me feel very sleepy at first. I could barely get my college work done. After about two months, I became very depressed from being so tired, and then became extremely thirsty. I drank two bottles of water every hour and could feel my lungs becoming irritated. I was drinking so much water I was getting nauseous. I then went to my MD, and he told me to stop taking it. After three days, my thirst went away. After about two weeks, I felt myself again. Singulair is now listed on my doctor's chart under 'medicine allergies.'"

For Allergic Rhinitis "I was having bad shortness of breath that distressed me. My doctor put me on Singulair and it saved me! On day one, I noticed a big difference within an hour. They say take it at night, but I take it in the morning. Works like a charm with no side effects. I was advised to take the generic as it was cheaper with my plan."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I am in disbelief as to how much help this has helped me after MONTHS of trying different inhalers and medications for asthma and struggling to breathe so badly, having to be on steroids so often just to breathe. My Dr. gave me Singulair and within the first 24 hours, I went from having to use my nebulizer every 3/4 hours to using it once. I've been on it for about 3 weeks now and I am no longer needing my inhaler or nebulizer!!! I absolutely can't believe it. It has changed my life for the better."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I took one pill this morning (as recommended by a friend who had trouble sleeping with it and found morning was better). It’s 3:18 am, and I can’t sleep. Keep having waves of feeling like I can’t breathe. Pretty sure it’s anxiety. Won’t be taking this anymore. Hope the anxiety goes away."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I have severe allergies every day right when I get up in the morning. My nose just starts to run and drip. If I do not have tissues, my mucus would just drip on the floor. My allergies always go away around lunchtime. I took generic Singulair (montelukast sodium) every day in the morning. Then I switched to the evening. I may have only missed one or two tablets throughout the 3 months that I took it, but my drip is the same as before. This medication does not work for me. I have tried the generics for Claritin, Allegra, and Zyrtec. Now I have tried the generic form of Singulair. All of these medications do not work for me. The only medication that works is Benadryl, but Benadryl makes me so exhausted and congested."

For Asthma "This really did help with my allergies and asthma symptoms I sometimes experienced. I took this for 2 years and never on a daily basis, but as needed (when my allergies would act up). It took me a while to figure this out, but I have now determined that when taking this medicine, I am very lethargic the next day, depressed feeling, and extremely agitated. For a while, I had just concluded I was a moody person, but after taking one, seeing how I felt, and then going off of it, I put two and two together. Literally, the next day without the pill, I feel back to my old self. So though it did help for allergies, for me, the pros don't outweigh the cons."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Completely effective for asthma maintenance, side effects - insomnia, weird dreams when able to sleep, headaches, and nosebleeds. Only took for 4 weeks. Unfortunately, now after stopping it, have limited lifestyle (Singulair gave me back a life)."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I took this medication to get some relief from severe allergies. It helped with the allergies, but I ended up in the ER with chest tightness and some tingling sensations in my chest. I had a battery of tests on my heart, all was fine. This medication made me feel bad on one day, worse on the second day with the chest discomfort."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I tried this drug at the recommendation of my doctor to try to stop the constant mucus running down my throat. After a week with no improvement, I stopped taking it. It did nothing for my problem. Plus, it caused anxiety issues, which I couldn't risk getting any worse."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have been on corticosteroids for about 10 years due to asthma and allergies, many times bronchitis and pneumonia. Asthma very bad this year and have increased use of Symbicort up to 8 inhalations per day, usually 4, no better, so doctor prescribed Singulair on Monday, and 4 days later feeling somewhat clearer but producing more sputum, itchy and trouble resting, very hyper. I will try to stay on it for another 7 days to see if it settles as per the pharmacist."

For Asthma "I was on Singulair for many years. It helped allergies and asthma significantly. However, I also had a significant problem with depression. My doctor told me to stop taking it when she read about the correlation with depression. After a few weeks, I felt so much better mood-wise, but my allergy and asthma symptoms are that much worse. I was already taking Zyrtec (it has now been raised to a double dose), Flonase, Azelastin (a recent addition), Sudafed as needed, and Chlorpheniramine as needed. Doubling the Zyrtec was supposed to eliminate the need for the last two, but the taste of Azelastin is so unpleasant that the urge to just go back to Sudafed is very strong. I'm resisting because of age and HBP. The sinus clog/drip is ever-present. Retiring to Delaware has been great for our finances, very tough on allergies/asthma, slightly worse than Northern Virginia. And I hear there's really no place to 'hide.'"

For Allergic Rhinitis "I never had allergies until I was an adult. Most of my allergies are at night, making it unbearable and hard to sleep. Nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and mouth. This would continue into the morning. During the daytime, I would get constant ear pressure and cracking. My doctor put me on Singulair (generic was given from the pharmacy), and my symptoms have improved significantly, but I get nosebleeds more often, which is a side effect. I've been on it for three months now. Still get the occasional stuffiness in the morning, but much better overall."

For Asthma "I started taking 5 mg when I was younger. And I’ve continued with 10 mg for the entirety of my adult life. It’s a must-have for me to function. Just opens my lungs without all the prednisone—one of the best medications on the planet, in my opinion."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I rate Singulair with a ten because it has done everything I could have hoped for. I am 15 now and started taking it when I was 10 or 11. I am able to live my daily life without worrying about asthma, and I use albuterol 15 minutes before exercise through an inhaler, but without Singulair, I'm sure it would be much worse. I have had absolutely no side effects whatsoever, and I am severely allergic to peanuts, nuts, shellfish, and have had allergic reactions to other medicines in the past. This is wonderful!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "Singulair has been a lifesaver for me. I am a newly diagnosed asthmatic, which had become debilitating. I was put on a course of prednisolone to relieve symptoms, then the doctor tried to control asthma with inhalers. Couldn't get it under control with only the inhalers, so I was prescribed Singulair. It is amazing, I hardly use my reliever. Before, I was using anything up to 40 times a day. Hay fever symptoms reduced also. Able to run again, I had reached the point where I could hardly walk, never mind run. Now I'm starting to get my life back."

For Asthma "It worked very well for asthma symptoms. Greatly reduced lung inflammation. It takes quite a few weeks to reach max effectiveness. But gave me joint aches, muscle aches, and all-over malaise. This is listed as an uncommon side effect, so it may not affect most."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I was diagnosed with sinusitis in 2014 at age 31. Cause never determined. Ruled out allergies with allergy testing. Had a CT scan which showed excess mucus in my sinus cavities but no structural issues or polyps. I had a balloon sinuplasty which did not improve my symptoms. OTC meds and sprays never helped. My ENT decided to prescribe me Singulair as well as Azelastine spray. I started taking both at bedtime in October 2019. It's been over a year now, and I haven't had any adverse reactions. I still have some mild sinus symptoms all year long but have only had a few flare-ups/infections. I used to have them constantly. I know a lot of people are scared of Singulair side effects and the black box warning, and it's good to be aware of potential side effects. For me, the risk was worth the reward. It's not a cure, but it's definitely improved my quality of life."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Been suffering from ETD for about two years. I've been on Singulair for about 4 months, and it has dramatically improved my symptoms, no more ear crackling. Occasional tiredness and headache, but it's tolerable. It has helped me tremendously."
