For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was prescribed Provera to take 10 mg for 14 days and then off for 14 days each month. I had abnormal uterine bleeding, which was due to having hyperplasia. This medication is supposed to thin out the uterine lining. The first time I took it, I had some cramping and spotting but never had a period. This second time around, I had some cramping with 2 days of a light to moderate flow, but nothing heavy. I'm still in my 14 days off on the second trial and have had no other bleeding besides the 2 days, so I am not sure if this medication is working or not for me, so I called the OB-GYN and she told me to continue with the medication, so I guess we will see. Has anyone else experienced it work like this before?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have bled 60+ days. I am on day two of Provera. The nausea, cramping, diarrhea, bloating, and vaginal dryness are horrible, I have stopped bleeding though. I am scheduled for 10 mg for 10 days for the next three months."

For Endometriosis "I have been on Provera 10 mg for almost 3 months now. My first monthly period was painful and heavy. My second was regular, plus I clotted a lot. With my 3rd cycle, I only spotted off and on for 3 days. I haven't seen a cycle since. Besides the cramps and the spotting every now and then, I highly recommend this medicine. I have to take Provera 10 mg daily for 6 months to remove precancerous cells off my uterus. I have a 12-year-old son, and now my husband and I are praying for another child, which will be his first biological child. Has anyone besides me missed a cycle while on Provera? I have taken two home pregnancy tests a week apart, and they both said the same thing (negative)."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I started bleeding September 7th. Saw a doctor in November who just told me it was the PCOS and to take ibuprofen. Saw another doctor in December, still bleeding. They gave me a referral. Saw the new one in January, still bleeding. Saw the last doc in February, yep, all the blood. She put me on Provera 10 mg. I was anemic from bleeding so much. For 4 days, I stopped bleeding after almost 6 months. But then it came back with a vengeance. Called the doctor, and she said to just take it twice a day rather than once a day. Currently, I’m changing feminine products every 30 minutes, passing clots, and the cramps resemble labor pains. I would not recommend this treatment to anyone with issues similar to mine."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I went 2 years bleeding for 3-4 months straight, then not bleeding for a couple of weeks, then back to bleeding for 3-4 months. I developed bradycardia and anemia, both were treated with bioidentical progesterone and an iron supplement, but I still kept bleeding. When I say bleeding, I mean changing my pad every hour, flooding all over myself with no warning, ruining furniture, my car seat... I did not swim in my pool for 2 years. The painful cramps were unbearable and required pain medicine. Finally, my GP suggested Provera. I was nervous because I had heard about the cancer risk, but I just cannot live this way anymore. So I am on day 12ish, and the heavy bleeding has slowed, I no longer have super bad cramps. I do still feel some slight cramping, more like pressure from time to time, and I am only spotting. I have to take pills a day. I go all day without spotting, but if I wait too long to take my second pill, I spot just a tiny bit. What is going on? Does this sound normal?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been taking Provera for 7 days, and I am absolutely miserable. I was having some irregular bleeding, and this was prescribed to “help” the bleeding. I have been profusely bleeding since the day I started this medicine. I have massive clotting and cramps all day and all night. I am on my eighth pack of pads in a week. I think this medicine is experimental due to me no longer getting a response from my doctor regarding this issue. I have stopped taking it, and I am looking for a new doctor. I have been bleeding for months!!"

For Amenorrhea "Took it to induce a period so that I could start Letrozole. It was prescribed for 5 days, and it worked! I started getting cramps by day 3 of taking it (mild) and got a period about 4 days after stopping it. I did not get a heavy flow like I expected from the reviews, it was just my normal flow. But the cramps were on a whole new level! I usually get lower back pain, but Provera made me have pelvic cramps for the first time in a long time. They weren't constant, but I made sounds and faces more than once, lol. I would say they were a solid 8/10. Completely worth it, it did its job."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My period has always been regular. In October, I started having a period every 2 weeks with blood clots and cramping, awful. I went to the Dr and was prescribed Provera 10 mg daily to regulate the bleeding. I haven’t had a period since. This is day 28. I’m not even sure if that’s normal. I have gained 6 pounds since starting this."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "No, no, no. Will NEVER take again. I was prescribed Provera because I was bleeding for 3 months (brown, pink, sometimes heavy), and it wasn’t stopping. I was told it would stop it, then I would have a period after. I spotted through treatment (I was given 10 mg for 14 days), and on day 10, I got heavy bleeding and cramping, and I discontinued use on day 12 because it got so bad. Bleeding started on a Sunday, and now it is Friday. Thursday night, I passed out from the blood loss and busted my chin. I called, and they prescribed birth control pills for 1 month to see if that will help. Otherwise, the other side effects were horrible as well. Moody, retained fluid. 0/10."

"I'm 24 years old and have always had a pretty regular period. I missed a period last month and immediately went to the doctor to make sure everything was okay. He confirmed it was probably stress due to the numerous issues I listed and prescribed Provera 10 mg once a day for 10 days. He said this would make me have a period after the 10 days so that my next period wouldn't be so bad. Day 1, didn't sleep for 27 hours. Day 2, I got extremely weak but couldn't sleep at all, and the cramps started rapidly. Day 3, I'm in tears from all the pain and pressure in my lower stomach and back. Day 4, I can't get up from the heating pad, no appetite, face is broken out in red blotches, I'm bloated and feel huge, and my mood is terrible. I will not take another pill. Ever."

For Endometrial Cancer "I’m on this for early-stage womb cancer. An attempt to salvage my womb and reverse the growth of tissue with cancer in it. The first 2 weeks were fine. I slept well and felt calm. After 2 weeks, I began getting vaginal cramping and a pelvic cramping/jabbing sensation. I then got a period that lasted for around 2.5 to 3 weeks. I read that this is the uterus lining breaking down and being expelled. I have also read the uterus lining will rebuild. I’m getting spotting/blood every day. I’m not sure if this is normal or indicative of something to worry about?! Having read comments on here, no other women have taken Provera for the same condition as me. Most women go for a hysterectomy straight away. The Provera is working fine for me… the vagina and urethra have become super sensitive. The pelvic pain continues. I assume this is a side effect. I feel lethargic every day, another side effect."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "This drug is horrible. I have PCOS, and I was spotting with some medium bleeding since May. When October came and my spotting didn't stop, my OBGYN suggested Provera (10 mg/twice a day), and at first, it stopped it for like a day. Then I started bleeding profusely, soaking through heavy-duty pads every hour, couldn't work, horrible cramps that left me in a fetal position, and I have even lost my appetite. I have headaches, and the bleeding is so bad that it wakes me up throughout the night, and I have blood clots galore every time I use the bathroom. It is a nightmare that I wish I will wake up from. I am going on my third straight week of this, and it's miserable. If anything, Provera has made my symptoms worse."

For Birth Control "So I was recommended Provera for my abnormal period. I haven't seen my period in a year and 6 months, and my doctor prescribed me this to take for 5 days a week. A couple days later, I had some cramps, and then my period came. I'm going to be trying the fertility drug after my period so I can conceive."

For Amenorrhea "Dr. Rx'd Provera after ending up in the hospital 12 hours after my period started. I bled so much that I was given a blood transfusion of 2 pints and stayed in the hospital for 2 nights. A little history: I had a tubal reversal in July 2020, and I never had a regular period since the procedure. OMG, Provera is my happy pill - I took Provera for 20 days, and I felt happy all the time and had no side effects. I did have cramps, but come to find out it was from my iron pills and because I was constipated, and nothing to do with my female reproductive area. So my Dr. changed my iron pills to one that is soft on the stomach. It’s been a month, and I had a light period that lasted for 3 days, and OMG, what a relief because it was 1. I was bleeding heavily, 2. I was spotting and bleeding for weeks, 3. I would miss a period for 2 months. I stopped taking Provera after the 20th day. I HONESTLY FEEL BETTER THAN EVER. I HAD NO SIDE EFFECTS! I’m calm and happy all the time, and I think I had a hormonal imbalance."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I missed my period for about 3 months straight, so my doctor did blood tests for every hormone in my body. They all came out normal. She put me on Provera to test if it would bring back my period. It did. It started out normal, my period went from light flow to medium flow with no cramps like I'm used to. Then it got worse. On the 5th day, instead of getting lighter, it got heavier to the point of soaking through a big postnatal period pad every 30 minutes or so, and I started to get such intense cramps that even Motrin and a heating pad don't help, and I just want to sleep until the period goes away again. I'm on my 10th day, and I'm still bleeding super heavily, passing medium to large blood clots, and I am in intense pain that even standing for a minute takes a lot out of me. I just wish I never tried to fix my period. I was so much happier when it wasn't showing up. Because this is insane! The Provera did what it was meant to ... but be careful if you are prescribed this."

"I've been taking Provera twice daily at the instruction of my GP to stop my periods - I'm a trans man, and it's a source of dysphoria for me, but I've also had painful periods for years. It prevented my period for about four to five weeks, but now I've been bleeding constantly. It's considerably less painful but totally defeats the purpose of me taking it."

For Amenorrhea "I’m 36 and 8 months off of low estrogen birth control (took for 10+ years). I had relatively normal periods, 31-35 day cycles, and then 45 days and 50+ days. I’m healthy, other than being on the low end of the BMI for my height, and I have slightly elevated prolactin (having additional blood work after starting levothyroxine). I was prescribed Provera for 10 days. I experienced some cramping while taking it, but nothing unmanageable. I’m 6 days off it, and I have horrible nausea and stomach cramps. My sense of smell is also insanely strong. I have had a progesterone blood test three times and was told I most likely don’t ovulate. Hoping my menstrual cycle starts soon and isn’t too bad. Sending you all positive vibes."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am a 65-year-old woman that is postmenopausal. In the last year, I have been spotting every month. I am on a waiting list for a hysteroscopy. In the meantime, I have taken Provera for 10 days, and then I started bleeding. One week later, I started bleeding. I am on my 6th day of bleeding very heavily and cramping big time. I'm to go back on Provera next month again for 10 days. Is this a normal procedure for a 65-year-old that has already been through menopause?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 35. I've been experiencing bleeding that started in February 2022 for almost 2 weeks, and in March, I started bleeding again until today (one month and a half). First, my PCP gave me 10 mg of Provera for 10 days, it helped for the first couple of days, and then the bleeding came back. Then my OB gave me 2 tablets of 10 mg Provera per day for 3 weeks. It's just getting worse. My bleeding is heavier with cramping. My endometrial biopsy results came out normal. I'm not sure what is wrong, now I'm waiting for an ultrasound test appointment. Will update follow-up."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Two years ago, at 48, I already had years of perimenopausal issues, but I started getting heavy periods with cramps and huge clots, lasting over 1 week. Then, I had the worst period for 2 weeks, using tampons and pads each hour. My gyno gave me Provera 10 mg, and my period stopped after 3 days. Weirdly, I had no period after for 11 months! Then, my periods came back - some light, some heavy. This went on for 8 months; then, no periods, again. At the end of 2021, my gyno was going to do an ablation on me, but a pre-biopsy showed I have hyperplasia. To reverse this, or else need a hysterectomy, my gyno put me on Provera 10 mg, again, daily, for 3 months. The first 4 weeks were great, no period. But, I slowly started to get very heavy bleeding, cramps and big clots, and I’ve had these things now for 25 days! My gyno did another biopsy 3 days ago, which I’m waiting for the results. She also had me stop the Provera for 1 week, but my period hasn’t stopped yet. A hysterectomy is sounding better every day!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My doctor put me on Provera 10 mg. I’ve been suffering with bleeding and clots. A blood test also showed I have low iron and am anemic. I have constipation too. After taking Provera for about 3 months, still bleeding irregularly. Legs feel heavy, looks like I swallowed a damn soccer ball. Got terrible cramps, feel exhausted, get terrible headaches. Feels like my body is giving up on me. So sick and tired of being sick and tired. Just want my life back, my energetic healthy self."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have had a nonstop period for about 4-5 years now (I’m 29). I took Provera for 10 days last year, and it stopped my period for about 2-3 months, and then once again started. About 2 weeks ago, my doctor prescribed Provera again, and this time, yay. It’s so heavy, it’s like a water faucet has turned on and hasn’t stopped. The cramps are soooo bad. It’s been about 6 days since my last pill. It’s been a struggle. I go see an OB/GYN soon and hopefully can get some answers then."
