For Bipolar Disorder "I have been treating bipolar disorder since 2014. I have used olanzapine, risperidone, and quetiapine, but I have had better results with lurasidone. I have been using it since 2023 and I am stable. I exercise regularly and have lost weight. Sometimes I experience nausea after taking the pill, but I have incorporated it into my routine. I take one 40 mg pill after dinner, and I remain stable using only this medication!"

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "Dr. decided to try Latuda. The side effects completely outweighed the benefits for me. For a while, I was able to tolerate the headaches and nausea and enjoyed the mood improvement. I was actually able to feel true happiness in happy situations. But it also affected my menstrual cycle to where I was experiencing a full week of cramps (not normal for me) and was 2 weeks late (also not normal for me). Then the nausea just became vomiting every time I took the pill. So I stopped it. I really wished it would work because I liked the happiness I experienced and no mania."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "So far, so good. I have been on this drug now for about three weeks. No adverse effects. Taking for Bipolar II. I am coming off of clonazepam and started Latuda. Seems to be helping so far. I am a big believer in the placebo effect. But I haven't had the nausea like some other people on here, and so far not overly sleepy, but not getting more anxiety with taking. Less, in fact. I was concerned about taking it originally because I had a bad effect from Lamictal. This one seems to be working well so far, though."

Lurasidone "It's been nearly two months since my last review. I lowered the score, and I'm getting off this drug. It worked for a while. My anxiety died down too. I realized I left out a thing or two about Latuda. First off, all desire, affection, ability to love, and libido are still stone dead. Second, having to eat with it still gives me a 50% chance of feeling nauseous even if I do. Third, my creativity and ability to care for anything is very low. Ready to try something new. Like I said before, it can work for depression, but the trade-offs are not worth it, in my opinion. I want to feel again."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "This was the first medicine to actually help with my bipolar disorder, but the side effects were just so awful that I had to go off of it. I gained 20 pounds in just a few weeks, but the worst part was the feeling I’d get a couple of hours after taking it. I can only describe it as wanting to crawl out of my skin. No matter how I moved or twisted, it felt like my bones were twitchy and irritated. It was such a horrible, restless feeling that I ended up trying to sleep through my hour or two of side effects every day. Not a fun way to live."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I'm taking Latuda for bipolar 2. I started on 20 mg and eventually went up to 40 mg. It seems to work well for me. I haven't experienced any hypomania, and over time, the bouts of depression subsided. In the beginning, I experienced a lot of nausea and sleepiness. That went away after several months. I also experience anxiety an hour or two after taking it occasionally, so now I take it at bedtime. That seemed to solve that problem. Other than the anxiety, I really don't experience any other side effects anymore."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "Took it three days, lowest dose. Day one mood lifted and curbed appetite by dinnertime. Day two some mild nausea set in, made me feel like I wanted to get things done for the first time in a long time-maybe I'd been borderline hypomanic because I felt the urge to completely clean and rearrange our garage. Also low appetite. Day three felt like I couldn't stop moving, no appetite at all, and wanted to lay in bed because the nausea was horrible-like I'd been spinning all day, but couldn't help but pace between the house and outdoors. Really wanted this one to work. Back to the drawing board."

Lurasidone for Schizophrenia "I was prescribed this earlier this year, in July, and I was only on it for a day. It helped my benzodiazepine withdrawal SOME, but it immediately gave me insane akathisia, where I felt extremely anxious in my legs and couldn’t sit still. Everything was making me panic and cry, and I felt sleepy as anything, almost nodded off several times while in public and even on my date with my boyfriend, and I threw up a few times. That was my first and last time taking it. Never again, wouldn’t recommend 0/10."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "This is among the most tolerable antipsychotic medications you could take, ignoring the few hours of anxiety that could range from dread to panic attacks after taking the medication, and this is something almost impossible to deal with, so I’d advise taking it when you are very, very sleepy. If you don’t eat enough, you will become nauseous, and nausea/headaches are a real issue. Restless legs too. Weight gain is a minimal issue, and the nausea can even reduce appetite, I find. As for sleep, you could find yourself sleeping for up to 12 hours initially, but after some months, insomnia could become a problem, or sleeping 3 hours, then dozing off in the day for at least 10. Now, the real issues would be hair loss to the extent of balding, facial muscle irregularities and tension (felt this in my jaw and had extreme asymmetry then went off and I look ok-ish), mild hypotension, very dry skin, tremors/trembling and shakes (this could be dramatic), and manic symptoms missing a dose for 2+ days."

Lurasidone for Schizophrenia "Latuda has not taken away my sounds and lights (which I take/took to be divine signs), but I have gained a distance from the phenomena that I didn't have on Zyprexa (and no weight gain!). I'm like the main character in 'A Beautiful Mind' who never ends up without his 'CIA boss' being around, but he learns to ignore him, and he fades into the background and shuts up. They're still there, but it's not God torturing me; I just have schizophrenia (schizoaffective). (Must be taken with food or else nausea.)"

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I was suicidal constantly since age 15 and went through every medication possible. SSRIs made it worse, mood stabilizers did nothing, and the antipsychotics worked like magic. I gained a ton of weight and developed metabolic syndrome on every other antipsychotic but this one and have lost all the weight I gained from this journey to the right medicine. Of course, I get nauseous sometimes, but I think for most of us who make it to a drug like Latuda, that’s nothing compared to the benefit."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I am on 20 mg of Latuda and 1,200 mg of lithium and 300 mg of bupropion. I just started taking the Latuda about 2 weeks ago, yesterday was the first time I noticed any real side effects. I was at work when the nausea and vomiting started. Shortly after, I noticed my left leg was stiff and hurt. As the day went on, the pain only got worse. As for my bipolar, I am happier than ever. I usually would drink at gatherings, but I noticed I don't even want to drink. I hope I can get past the side effects, this is the first time in 10 years I found something that works."

Lurasidone "Seem that I struggle without medication, but I am worse off with suicidal thoughts and attempts. No nausea. Currently taking 40 mg in the morning, have been for about 4 weeks. I go back to the doctor in two weeks, where she suggested maybe going to increase the dose. I think I just need to try something else. Right now, that's the only psych med I'm on."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "20 mg & only made it 3 days. Day 1: cloud lifted. Appetite subsided. Day 2: couldn't sit still & kind of queasy, even with extra food. Appetite was practically gone (which, as a binge eater, was an amazing feeling). Day 3: compulsory restlessness; I literally had to be moving. The nausea, even with taking a meal, was too much to bear on day 3, which put me into a kind of medicated 'funk', so there was no day 4... My Pdoc said nausea gets worse, so why bother with trying day four. Had been on Seroquel XR in the past and dropped it because I was getting heart flutters where I had to catch my breath, and involuntary muscle movements. For 3 years, it had worked wonderfully, and I hate that I had to drop it."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "The drug seems to make me stable, I wasn’t stable on anything less than 60 mg. I do best now at 120 mg. The real downside I have with the drug is I still struggle with insomnia, so even though this drug knocks out other people, I’m still wide awake with terrible symptoms. My stomach gets twisted, I’m nauseous, I start to get vertigo, and I get all shaky. It’s not a fun feeling to have, especially while you’re struggling to fall asleep. Other than that, it’s been great at stabilizing me through a really tough time."

For Bipolar Disorder "Latuda has been amazing for my anxiety. It helps calm my mind and slows down my racing thoughts. Since starting it, that part of my mental health has been almost completely resolved. I still take other medications for depression, as Latuda helped for a little while in that area, but I slipped into another major depressive episode while on it. As far as racing anxious thoughts go though, they're nonexistent for me at this point (after being my main mental health issue for ten years). I had some side effects in the beginning (nausea after taking it, not wanting to eat for a while, and a little bit of restlessness), but all of those resolved within a month or so. I'm very thankful for Latuda."

"Didn’t stop the paranoid feelings and induced severe akathisia, which felt like 5-8 panic attacks, impending doom, can’t sit or stand in one place for even one minute, insomnia sleeping for 1/2-3 hours of broken sleep while trying for ten hours a night, nausea, digestive problems, tremors, muscle twitches, and inability to focus. Started within weeks of starting the med. Symptoms of needing to move stopped three weeks after stopping the med. Insomnia lasted 8 months after stopping the med. Anxiety lasting 9 months. Tremors and twitching continuing still, and it’s 17 months from stopping the med. Latuda was a big fail, and the resulting akathisia can be really hard to live with. This is a documented fact. The akathisia “inner tension” description of possible side effects is like saying there’s a paper cut when really a leg has been cut off. It does not always stop after removal from the med."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was first put on 20 mg, then 40 mg. I was being treated for anxiety and depression. The first night, my entire arm went numb for a split second, and I felt like I blacked out, which led to a panic attack. I was encouraged to keep going. Over the next few weeks, I felt tired, dizzy, I experienced blurry vision and the inability to focus. I have trouble sometimes processing spoken language, but this medicine made it so I couldn't even read very well. I've not been doing very well in school. I have been nauseated, exhausted, had missed periods, and after a few weeks, I also started having insomnia and have not been able to sleep. I also had severe depression and violent urges. Nothing good has happened. This medicine is ruining me."

For Bipolar Disorder "I had major depression with mixed features. I could not sleep on this medication yet would be very tired and could nap during the day. Took it in the morning and at night, and both were ineffective for sleeping well. Woke up at least 10 times. Not helpful, made me nauseous."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder and began taking Latuda (20 mg for 5 days, 40 mg for 4 days, then 60 mg once daily). About a week after I had gotten to the 60 mg dose, I developed a generalized, itchy rash (most prominent on my forehead, upper back, and arms), so my doctor and I agreed to discontinue the medication as it was most likely an allergic reaction to the medication. I do feel that, in the short time I was on it, Latuda did help control my mania/hypomania, but I didn’t feel it helped with the depressive episodes. I did experience nausea/vomiting once when I took the 40 mg dose on an empty stomach, and I also noticed eyelid twitching while on the 60 mg dose. I did find it a bit difficult to take the medication with at least 350 calories worth of food because I’ve been dealing with a loss of appetite due to the depression. The medication also made me extremely drowsy, so I preferred to take it right before bedtime."
