Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "Latuda is a horrible drug! It’s only been 1st April since I started it, and today is the 22nd, and the bad side effects have not gone away. I did not see any good come from this drug. I sit in bed all day on my phone and do nothing else, and at night can’t sleep, hence, like right now it’s 4 am. I hallucinate, have very bad dreams/nightmares, hear things, and cannot sleep at night. I am not going to just let the side effects play out because I cannot handle all the negative side effects from this drug! Do not take it, people!"

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I know it is supposed to be a weight-neutral drug, but that was not the case for me. I couldn't stop eating, even in the middle of the night, and rapidly put on 10 pounds in a month. I also had problems with restless legs and insomnia. It just wasn't the drug for me. I've stopped and switched to another med, and my appetite has already decreased after just a week."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I went to a mental hospital for suicidal thoughts, and they talked to me for 5 minutes. All I told them was bipolar runs in my family, so supposedly that means I have it. They put me on this med and went from 20 mg to 40 mg to 60 mg in the span of three days. Every day I told them I felt horrible. I’m skipping my dose tonight and want to get off this. It’s horrible. I experienced such bad akathisia and horrible anxiety. I felt like I was in a nightmare, and I've only been on it for a week. I've never felt so horrible in my life. I have horrible insomnia and exhaustion at the same time, but the inability to stop fidgeting. The doctor even knew I was having these problems and prescribed a med to help, but it didn’t, and I only felt worse. And never gave me the information on it before I took it. Do not take this med until you dig deeper and find all the side effects. It works for some, but sure didn’t work for me. Good luck, everyone. Live a full life!"

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "The drug seems to make me stable, I wasn’t stable on anything less than 60 mg. I do best now at 120 mg. The real downside I have with the drug is I still struggle with insomnia, so even though this drug knocks out other people, I’m still wide awake with terrible symptoms. My stomach gets twisted, I’m nauseous, I start to get vertigo, and I get all shaky. It’s not a fun feeling to have, especially while you’re struggling to fall asleep. Other than that, it’s been great at stabilizing me through a really tough time."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "Was on the lowest dose for a month and overall just didn’t like it. Too activating, didn’t like how you have to eat 350 calories with it (I don’t eat breakfast, so I had to take it at nighttime, therefore, it caused insomnia because it was activating). It also just didn’t help. Pass. I'm doing great on lithium."

"Didn’t stop the paranoid feelings and induced severe akathisia, which felt like 5-8 panic attacks, impending doom, can’t sit or stand in one place for even one minute, insomnia sleeping for 1/2-3 hours of broken sleep while trying for ten hours a night, nausea, digestive problems, tremors, muscle twitches, and inability to focus. Started within weeks of starting the med. Symptoms of needing to move stopped three weeks after stopping the med. Insomnia lasted 8 months after stopping the med. Anxiety lasting 9 months. Tremors and twitching continuing still, and it’s 17 months from stopping the med. Latuda was a big fail, and the resulting akathisia can be really hard to live with. This is a documented fact. The akathisia “inner tension” description of possible side effects is like saying there’s a paper cut when really a leg has been cut off. It does not always stop after removal from the med."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "Did not give it a full 10 because of tiredness, 45 min-1 hour after taking with food. I took it again after I had to stop all meds for surgery, and it made me confused/forgetful and forced me to Lithium. Along with hypothyroidism, they were dehydrating - dry eyes, hair breakage like straw, snapping it off! 2.5 weeks back on it and off the Lithium, I barely see hair on my floor. Tight muscles but no weight gain, energy to jog, slight difficulty staying asleep could be from Lithium withdrawal. Also take 50 mg Fluvoxamine for persistent/worrisome OCD-like thoughts and Trazodone up to 50 mg if I can't sleep. Also take Metformin 500 mg 3 times a day to counteract high cholesterol and blood sugar with Latuda. I'm grateful my doctor revisited Latuda again. Abilify made me hyper-sexual and impulsive so that I did risky things and was embarrassed a lot, not to mention in debt. I even won a settlement from the manufacturers of Abilify after 12 years on it because of that stuff in a lawsuit with hundreds of others."

For Bipolar Disorder "I cannot say enough good things about this medication. I am stable and actually enjoying my life for the first time in 17 years! The rage is gone, daily mood swings gone. The only negative is worsened insomnia. I'm hoping that will lessen over time. I really like me now."

"Works very well. I'm taking Latuda 40 mg with 40 mg Prozac and 50 mg Trazodone at night. I have been on a good few antidepressants before and have taken Abilify (ineffective) and Seroquel (very effective but gained 30 pounds). After refusing Zyprexa and Risperdal for weight reasons, I was prescribed Latuda. Hallucinations have decreased, and I have not had a serious bout of psychosis since starting. I do feel pretty drowsy after taking it and suffer from akathisia, especially at night. My insomnia became significantly worse, but Trazodone works fine. Side effects are pretty bad, but the medicine has helped and doesn't make me gain weight. It may be the Prozac, but I find it very difficult to eat 350 calories to take the drug. Works well though."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was first put on 20 mg, then 40 mg. I was being treated for anxiety and depression. The first night, my entire arm went numb for a split second, and I felt like I blacked out, which led to a panic attack. I was encouraged to keep going. Over the next few weeks, I felt tired, dizzy, I experienced blurry vision and the inability to focus. I have trouble sometimes processing spoken language, but this medicine made it so I couldn't even read very well. I've not been doing very well in school. I have been nauseated, exhausted, had missed periods, and after a few weeks, I also started having insomnia and have not been able to sleep. I also had severe depression and violent urges. Nothing good has happened. This medicine is ruining me."

"I recently started, and the first 2 weeks had a lot of side effects (insomnia, panic attacks, restlessness, muscle leg stiffness, body tremors, brain fog), but they all went away except the body temperature issue. I tend to get hot in hot weather and sweaty, so I have to be careful in hot weather or while exercising. I'm on 20mg, the lowest dose. It's helping with depression, anxiety, delusions, concentration, and hallucinations. I do feel at times the delusions trying to come back, but they fade away after a few minutes and are manageable so far. The impulsiveness is less, and I stop and ponder my decisions more. I probably need to go up to 40mg eventually, but I'm concerned about the side effects being more intense and lasting longer. For now, 20mg is doing a good job with some symptoms that come and go but are manageable for the most part. I'm cleaning, watching full movies (I couldn't do that before), and I have 1-2 projects versus a lot of unfinished projects before. Anxiety was due to my delusions, I think. It's a lot better now."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "At first, Latuda seemed to stabilize me, but I soon realized it was enhancing my hypomania and making it difficult to get to sleep. This ultimately led me to stop taking it."

Lurasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I struggle with bipolar depression too, where I don't leave my bed for days. When I started Latuda, I felt amazing. I was awake, laughing... It was like a miracle. That was extremely short-lived. Within 48 hrs, I started to become irrational, angry, irritable, unpredictable. I then wasn't able to sleep for days. In less than 10 days, this medication put me into a full manic attack. I was a completely different person, and not in a good way. I'm now slowly recovering from the manic episode it sent me into."
