Lubiprostone for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I was kind of shady to take this pill because of all the bad reviews on it. I have IBS, so I thought, what do I have to lose? So I took one pill, and within 10 minutes, this terrible nausea hit me. I even ate before I took it, and that didn't help, I was nauseous all day long, and I thought screw this, I am not taking it again, so I didn't. Two to three days later, I started having terrible stomach cramps to the point where I wanted to cry. I had diarrhea and also somewhat of stools. So does the drug make you go? Yeah. Are the side effects worth it? No! This is a really powerful drug with way too many side effects. It also gave me a bad headache."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I've always been a sufferer of chronic constipation. Thought that Amitiza would be my miracle pill. Here are my pros and cons: Pro - When I actually go, I REALLY go. I'm not feeling bloated and cramped. Con - I'm usually nauseous for about an hour after taking my pills. I'm not able to go on my own. I have to use a Fleet to get things going."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Almost immediate extreme nausea and dizziness. Had to be almost dragged into bed. Couldn't stand up. Cold sweats. My cardiologist called to see why an extreme drop in my blood pressure flagged my heart monitor. My internist had given me samples. I would not take even one more pill for any amount of money. Returning to the doctor!!!"

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I find the side effects terrible and am still constipated. For me, it is not working, and I am tired of the nausea, bloating, distention. I feel sick and nauseous all the time and have given this med over two weeks. Some people seem to have different experiences. You would have to try it. Can't wait to stop it. Tomorrow I plan to."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I've had chronic constipation for 8 years now, and I can go anywhere between one to three weeks without a movement. My doctor prescribed me Amitiza, and I'm now having a movement every other day. The only reason I didn't give a ten is that the side effects are brutal. I've eaten a full meal and drank water, and I've still gotten terrible nausea, and I've even vomited from it. And the headaches don't give a good impression either. But I would rather deal with that than the horrible constipation. Overall, I love it!"

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I took this as directed for about 3 months, and it was ineffective. I was still constipated. I stopped using it. Then I used it every 3 days when I needed to go, and it helped. Now I am taking it as directed, and it seems to be working this time. So, inconsistent results. Stool is still hard and somewhat difficult to pass. Slight uncomfortable feeling when I am nearing having a bowel motion. Some nausea."

Lubiprostone for Opioid-Induced Constipation "The nausea hit within 20 minutes or so. I kept trying to vomit in the toilet, but just dry heaving. I was crying at the same time, and my poor cat was standing near me crying, too. I was sick for hours and really thought about calling an ambulance. I laid down with a blanket and was shivering. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a prescription drug. I feel so bad I will not be able to take my other meds tonight. I am afraid I will throw them up."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "During surgery to correct a prolapsed bladder in May 2017, my urogynocologist tightened the vaginal area (cystocele?) and then did a rectocele without my permission, as he never mentioned it when I was diagnosed. This has led to severe constipation and nausea, so my family doctor prescribed Amitiza 24 MCG, two per day. It helped me have a bowel movement within 24 hours, but now I feel somewhat dizzy and my blood pressure is up. Has anyone else had a rectocele that caused constipation?"

Lubiprostone for Opioid-Induced Constipation "I've been in a drug abuse treatment program with Suboxone for three years. I take a low dose and had eventually worked through the constipation once my body adjusted to the daily meds. Then, about a year and a half ago, the constipation started again. Naturally, I tried OTC laxatives, which didn't work. I spoke with my doctor, and he put me on Amitiza. I can say that I do go daily now. I still have to add a natural laxative and fiber supplements to my regimen, though. These things by themselves don't work for me, but together they do. Here's my issue, though. I get very dizzy and nauseous after taking my morning dose. I take it with my breakfast and plenty of water. Some days, the side effects are worse than others, and sometimes I don't have any at all. Currently, I'm flat on my back, and my whole day is shot because of these meds. This isn't my first go-around with an OIC med. I just want to be regular without feeling sick all the time!!"

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Other than the expense, this medication is outstanding. No headaches or nausea for me. It is the first medication to not only soften and move stool effectively, but it seems to target that awful gas pocket that causes so much agony normally. I have a twist at the splenic flexure that is so tight, the gastroenterologist could not get the scope through, despite tripling the medications. So this medicine is a miracle. Without it, only surgery could get me this comfortable. Wish I could afford to take it twice a day. I only do that occasionally. Still have to use Miralax since I can't afford to take Amitiza twice a day."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have been on this medicine about 3 weeks now. The first week, I thought there was good progress, then things went back to more my norm of not going for days on end. My doctor increased it to 8 mcg 2 x/day, still not much change. I decided to take 3 at a time. Probably not a good idea. I had diarrhea within the hour, severe nausea, and a little shortness of breath."

Lubiprostone for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I was prescribed this last year, took it for several months, and it worked great. As long as I took it with food and a full glass of water, there was no nausea. I take the 24 mcg twice a day. It's a miracle drug for me. I will continue to take this!"

Lubiprostone for Opioid-Induced Constipation "I’m not going to ever take any medication again before reading people’s real experiences on forums. I think if you tend toward nausea, don’t take this medication. I’m so much worse now after one dose. I’m so sick of medication that makes me sicker. I’m going back to magnesium for constipation. I have some cramping with it, but it works, and the magnesium is helping my other problems. Just have to get a good brand, find the right dosage, and keep it up. It’s really all they’re giving you to clean you out before a colonoscopy."

Lubiprostone for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I took Amitiza for 3 days. I had blood pressure spiked, sweats, severe jaw pain, sick to my stomach, headache. I called the doc on the third day, he told me to stop it immediately and if the symptoms don't go away, go to the ER. Oh, and it didn't relieve my constipation at all."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Was given this for constipation. I had severe nausea and headache. I was certain I was going to vomit for several hours after each dose. I felt like I had a severe stomach virus. It was so debilitating I had to stop taking it after two days."

Lubiprostone for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "So far, so good. I started this med due to my first IBS-C flare that went on for a week and showed no signs of going away. I’ve been on 8 mg samples, morning and night, for three days now. This medication is so amazing for shortening my time in the restroom; I’ve gone to 1-2 hours from 10-15 minutes. I had some nausea the first day, but that’s gone now. The only negatives with this med are that I get stomach cramping if I eat vegetables until I “go,” and sometimes simple gas, which has increased, feels like it’ll be a BM."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "My doctor gave me Amitiza and Linzess in his office to take for chronic constipation. Within 10 minutes, I went to the bathroom all over myself, and then came the severe diarrhea. I went over 50 times in 5 hours. I had a headache, nausea, and stomach pain. I started getting dizzy and briefly passed out. Called the nurse, and she said to call the ambulance. I got to the ER, waited 5 hours, then got rehydration. It was awful. I told my doctor, and he said to just take Linzess if needed."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have taken two doses, and it didn't work at all. Was it placebo? I have no idea. What happened was that I experienced strange psychotropic effects: lessened ability to judge distances, lessened ability to follow conversations, slower reading speed, headache, facial muscle spasm, clenching my jaw, and then a crying episode after 4-5 hours after the dose. At least I know it didn't cause my acne. I am scared to try the higher dose after reading everyone's comments and the fact that my blood pressure runs low to begin with. And the fact that my stomach is prone to nausea."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I've been on Amitiza for about a month now. I take it once in the morning and once in the evening, about 5:00, 24 mg. It has been helping me a lot, I go every morning like normal. Now I'm 31 years. I have had acne before but couldn't figure out why I was breaking out so much lately. The only thing I can figure is the Amitiza, it's the only thing I'm doing different to my body. Has anyone experienced acne with it? If so, did it subside any? Also, a little nausea sometimes, not all the time. And please, it said not for children under 18 years, it could be very dangerous for them. And I pray for everyone that has any type of constipation problem that it gets better for you with ease. God bless you all."

Lubiprostone for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "When I started out taking Amitiza, it worked great at 24 mcg twice a day, but after 1 week, I started to get very sick every time I took it. My symptoms were syncope, dyspnea, nausea, vomiting, loose stool, heart palpitations, rapid heart rate, chills, sweating, headache, and tunnel vision. I tried taking it once a day, still had all the same effects. After talking to my Dr., we decided to go to 8 mcg twice a day. I didn't take any for 2 weeks and started taking the 8 mcg twice a day. After the 11th dose (1st dose day 6), I started experiencing nausea, syncope, dyspnea, headache, chills, skin stinging, and cold sweats."

Lubiprostone for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I was prescribed Amitiza for IBS. I’ve tried both the higher and lower dose. As others have mentioned, it causes nausea, bloating, and cramps. The higher dose caused all that plus headaches. It took several weeks to “work,” and even then I continued to have issues. I’ve been on it about 8 months now, and I’m considering stopping the medication as it no longer does anything. Though I must say it worked well for a period of time."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I took Amitiza 8 mcg for chronic constipation. It did help as not much does. But the side effects made it impossible to continue. I took it for 3 weeks and was constantly feeling unwell and had dizziness issues. At 3 weeks, I stopped taking it and the nausea feeling left right away. But it is 2 weeks later and I am having even worse dizziness yet. I never had dizzy spells. I'm worried this didn't go away and seems worse."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "This drug has been a lifesaver. I have cystic fibrosis, and along with that comes chronic constipation. I had recurrent rectal prolapse as a child, and now as an adult, I have occasional DIOS-related bowel obstructions that require hospitalization for Gastrografin enemas and NG tube suction. I’ve been on Amitiza 24 mg, along with 200 mg Senokot-S twice daily for almost three years now, and I’m so thankful to be able to drop Miralax from my regular rotation (except for occasional use) because it would make me gag and give me gas (which are rarer side effects of the med). I’ve only had one bowel obstruction during this time period and no side effects, except for maybe some additional gurgling stomach noises after meals (which is literally just a sign that it’s working). My insurance covers it completely."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I've been taking opioids for quite a while due to severe rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia. I started taking Linzess, and over time I was going weeks without a bowel movement. My doctor had me take Miralax twice daily, and still no bowel movements. I told my gastrointestinal doctor I needed something good for opioid-induced constipation (OIC), and I was prescribed lubiprostone 24 mcg, twice daily. The first dose I took, I had nausea, vomiting, and gas, but as the day went by, it got better, and I had a bowel movement. I called my doctor to inform him once daily is all I can handle until I get used to them, and he was okay with that. I now only take these as needed because the side effects are not so good for me."

Lubiprostone for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I took the other reviews here with a grain of salt, and I wish I hadn’t. Do yourself a favor and clear your schedule before taking this medication. It completely knocked me off my feet. Insane dizziness and nausea. I’m so sick I can’t even talk. I wish I had never taken this medication and definitely won’t be taking it again. I’d take constipation over this. It was extremely expensive as well, and now I see is a waste of money since I can’t even use it without puking my brains out. (I’m also not prone to nausea from medications, which is even more shocking to me that this drug did this to me)."
