Lorazepam "I was prescribed lorazepam 1 mg up to 3x a day, but they don't seem to be touching me. I suffer from panic attacks, anxiety, etc., and I just permanently feel wired, my legs are going 100 mph all the time. I get bad thoughts of doom from nowhere. If I'm not focused on something 100%, I end up letting little thoughts of what if I pass out, etc. I've tried lots of SSRIs as well."

"While I was taking lorazepam, I did notice my anxiety and stress level go down. When I decided to go off the drug, I experienced horrible anxiety for hours at a time. Because of this, I am nervous to take anything else for my anxiety."

"So I was in a bad car accident back in July of 2021. I still am not back to my normal self due to the memory loss, lack of sleep, and overall issues with basic life tasks. It's been causing me major anxiety, frustration, and every emotion under the sun. My doctor put me on lorazepam for 10 days, ten days only to help sleep. My doctor didn't want me to stay on it because this can be an addictive drug. I didn't think it was an issue. It did what it was supposed to do. It was 0.5 mg and it did help me sleep. The first night I took it, I noticed a lot of heavy chest deep breathing, but the other 10 days I was fine. It was the withdrawal for me, which is why I do not recommend it. I do not drink, smoke, or do drugs. I do not have an addictive personality. The first day off of this thing, I cried and cried and cried. So emotional. The littlest things bothered me. I was shaky and irritable. I took everything out on everyone else. I would much rather take something else."

Lorazepam "I’ve been on 1 mg daily for almost 2 years. I wish I would have known how hard it is to get off of without tapering off slowly. If I miss a dose, the rebound symptoms kick in, and I’m left in pain, wondering if I’m going to have a grand mal seizure. I want off of this med, but I’ll have to talk to my doctor about switching to a slow release to taper off of benzos. If you get prescribed, please only take a small amount for a short period of time. Get a good therapist to find ways to deal with anxiety on your own, this drug is just a band-aid."

"I was prescribed 1 mg Ativan. I suffer from anxiety, and with years of drug abuse behind me, I’ve now become a hypochondriac. I was hopeful Ativan would relax my reoccurring panic episodes and extreme social anxiety disorder that has worsened since I kicked opiates. Ativan solved those problems. I was at ease, I felt relaxed, and my worries were gone. I was able to socialize and express my feelings openly. I felt calm and in control. Yet, I have never in my life experienced the things I felt the following days after taking one single dose of Ativan. The rest of my week was filled with random heart palpitations that woke me up during my sleep, extreme moodiness, and auditory hallucinations. I even had suicidal thoughts for no apparent reason other than I felt I was going crazy and considered it. I took months off and tried it again, the same thing happened! I find it disappointing that it works relatively well when you take it, but I feel even worse days and weeks after a single dose."

Lorazepam "I like Ativan better than Valium but not Xanax. Be careful with any benzodiazepines. They will mess with your brain and cause memory loss. I've been on them for 20 years. There's no way I can go off them now. I'm in a tough spot. I tried to stop twice and it drove me insane. I managed to kick a 4-year opiate addiction with the help of Suboxone, and that was challenging. Getting off benzos is even harder than kicking opiates. Believe me, benzodiazepines are dangerous. My doctor never warned me about the addiction until I switched medications, after about 5 years. Isn't that nice? I rely on them to keep me calm. I suffer from very severe anxiety, but knowing what I know now, I would have preferred to have a shot of vodka a couple of times a day. I'm not a drinker, but it's better than dealing with the side effects of benzos. Moderation is the key."

"Ativan used to work for me, and it doesn’t anymore. I’m wondering if they changed it somehow. A one-month supply would last me a good six months. I don’t think it is a tolerance thing. I primarily used it for flying, and it really isn’t helping with that anymore."

"Doctor prescribed me 1 mg x 3 per day. First week was fine, but soon after I developed a tolerance and between-dose withdrawal. Much to my dismay, my doctor kept me on this for 4 long months. The pills were working against me, actually causing me anxiety. Now I am in the process of tapering off. If only I was prescribed a longer-acting benzo for a much shorter period."

"I have had anxiety and depression real bad for 7 months. Was prescribed venlafaxine and lorazepam. Venlafaxine was increased every two weeks till I was on the higher dosage, but it did not work. Now on sertraline 150 mg, have been using 1 month no difference yet. Lorazepam I was on 1 mg once daily and it was great. I felt normal, then it started to be less effective, so I was told to take 2 a day. Now it is less effective again as I am tolerant to it. I know I am addicted to it, but I need help to get through this. I am tired of the anxiety and crying all the time."

Lorazepam "I was prescribed this to take prior to an MRI. I had been taking Klonopin for my anxiety, which is more slow-acting, so I thought I would try this. It immediately calmed me down before the MRI, and I felt good after. I spoke with my PCP about trying this instead of Klonopin, and she was okay with that at 1 mg twice a day as needed. The first week was fine, and then during week two, I was having a lot of panic attacks, chest tightness, and insomnia. I suffer from MS, so I'm never sure what is MS-related or anxiety-caused problems. I have decided to go back to the Klonopin. It doesn't kick in as fast but lasts much longer, and I feel much better on it."

Lorazepam "I used to take Ativan for appointments and other anxiety-provoking situations. It would relieve anxiety for the dental appointments and ENT appointments, but that was it. It never reduced my anxiety for blood tests or other appointments, despite the fact that I did not have any other drug given to me for the dental or ENT appointments. It also worked for certain anxiety-provoking situations (such as public speaking), but only 50% of the time. However, I am epileptic and on anti-seizure medication. Despite the fact that I am on anti-seizure medication, I will always have a simple partial seizure four days after I last took it, even if it was only 0.5 mg (the highest dose I would have would be 2 mg). Because of this, I do not recommend this drug to anyone; I had taken it over a span of ten years (as needed and not even every month - I would go months without taking it), but after realizing that it was the cause of me having simple partial seizures four days after taking it, I won't ever take it again."

Lorazepam "Be careful with this sneaky drug. At first, it works great, but very quickly, I mean within days, it is highly addictive. Before you know it, you’ll be using it daily, and withdrawal syndrome associated with benzos is horrible. Use with caution."

"I've been taking Cipralex 20 mg in the morning and 15 mg Remeron at night and would take from 0.5 mg to 1 mg of lorazepam in the morning as this is when my anxiety is worst. Since my anxiety was not improving, I decided to get off the Remeron to reduce the serotonin. Remeron was great for helping me sleep, but the withdrawal was awful. I decided to use lorazepam to help me sleep, which worked well for a while. Without the Remeron, my morning anxiety became better, and I started to have better days. This only lasted about a week. Pretty soon, I was having sleeping problems, and the lorazepam didn't help my daily anxiety either, and in fact, at times I felt worse. This is the downfall of lorazepam. You build up a tolerance and have to increase the dose."

"Lorazepam is a good medication in low doses for anxiety. Personally, if I took more than 1 mg, I experienced dizziness, double vision, the exact side effects I have with Ambien, which I use for a completely different reason. However, it does calm you down. If I had to be specific, it slows down your thoughts. It doesn't get rid of them and put you in some euphoric state, but it helps significantly. Unfortunately, this calmness for me came with side effects I'd expect from a sedative, even at low doses."

"I have been experiencing anxiety and some depression for 11 months now. My sister passed away last February, and I have not been 100% since. I was actually a lot worse, but I am now able to control it somewhat. But the overthinking and the fear of losing it (going crazy is horrible!). My doctor prescribed Ativan about 6 months ago. I never took any. I'm terrified! I wanted to ask, will it freak me out? Zone me out? I want all the details. I made a promise to myself that this year would be a new year, a better one! That I would definitely try my meds, even if it's only once. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!:)"

Lorazepam "I was given Ativan before having an MRI done. I have extreme claustrophobia and was unable to get the MRI done, even the open MRI type machine. I took 2 mg one hour before the test. Right up until the test, I was terrified. However, within five minutes of being in the MRI machine, I was out! I mean out, in a different world. It was scary. I had an IV placed and didn't feel a thing. The whole test (an hour or longer) went perfectly. Here is the really scary part. I came home and went about my usual business. At supper, I read the paper, even drove into town. The next day, I had absolutely no memory of the previous day. The Ativan caused severe amnesia."

"While Ativan definitely helped me deal with anxiety for short periods of time after administration, I found that it gave me awful rebound anxiety within 4-6 hours after it began to wear off. It is very short-acting, which can be great for taking care of acute panic/anxiety attacks, but it's NOT a good choice for individuals who must take it multiple times a day."

Lorazepam "Ativan 0.5 mg calms me down considerably within 30 minutes, but the side effects are so bad that I can't continue to take it. I experienced EXTREME loss of energy, tiredness, laziness, apathy, and an increase in appetite. This might be okay for someone who's at home trying to recover from panic attacks, but not for me. I work 5 days a week, and this past week that I was only taking 1 x 0.5 mg pill a day was the absolute worst week I've ever had at work, living in a fog and totally wiped out of energy. I hardly got ANYTHING done, which is totally out of character for me. Also, when this medicine wears off in a few hours, it makes me very irritable and nervous."

"I was prescribed 1 mg lorazepam about 3 months ago. This medicine is really not helping me that much. I have severe anxiety and depression and was taking Xanax for 6 years. But doctors want to put you on something less addictive. With the lorazepam, I take 3 1 mg pills a day, my anxiety goes down 1/4 of the way."

Lorazepam "I was on Ativan for generalized anxiety disorder with panic disorder. It worked okay, however, once I started seeing a specialist, I changed to Klonopin. I find that Klonopin is much more consistent, meaning I don't feel it kick in and wear off like I did the Ativan. This apparently is due to its longer half-life. I did find out the hard way that these are abused by some people, so don't leave them accessible in any way. I had mine stolen once. Bad experience!"
