Lorazepam "I received a shot last week of this at the hospital. It was great at first and was working great for my severe panic attacks, then about 45 minutes later, I started seeing Mickey Mouse bumper boats and pink pigs standing in cake. The hospital didn't do anything for me, and this is considered a severe side effect. They sent me home, and then I slept for 36 hours and had a migraine for 2 days after. I imagine it works for others, but not for me, way too many side effects when I have 2 kids I have to take care of."

Lorazepam "I have an intense fear of going to the dentist, so they prescribed Ativan to me. It didn't do a single thing. I dissolved it under my tongue, as instructed by the pharmacist's note. Half an hour later, nothing. An hour later, nothing. Even now, 8.5 hours after taking it, nothing. It didn't work on me. I was quite upset. The only thing it did was make my cheeks feel slightly poofier than usual. And maybe dizzy once while walking down some stairs a few hours ago."

"It is many years ago that I was prescribed this medication by a leading Harley Street psychiatrist whom I will not name. It is effective for anxiety, but the downside was just too scary. I saw many movies over the months with a group of friends but had no memory the next day. My brain had literally been wiped on a daily basis. Luckily, another psychiatrist stopped me taking what he described as 'this poison.' I still shudder at what I took into my body."

"So I had to take some Ativan for the first time yesterday, as I was having a persistent anxiety attack throughout the day. 0.5 mg under the tongue. Now, mind you, this is my first time ever trying this drug, so maybe that's part of why my reaction was as it was. Almost immediately, I felt a slight heaviness on the body, though the anxiety wasn't really affected. I'd explain the effect as feeling more like a Band-Aid to stop the anxiety from continuing back into another attack, but it didn't get rid of the general anxiety, and I found at times it actually felt like it enhanced it. Ended up laying down to go to sleep. Woke up the next morning fairly depressed with stomach issues. I'd say I'd recommend this only on the worst of days. While it did help keep me from persisting into my fourth anxiety attack, the anxiety itself didn't go away."

Lorazepam "I've been on Ativan 0.5 mg a little over 1 month, and I don't like it. I'm in a constant fog and feel like my body is battling itself internally. I'm a zombie but can't sleep, I feel like I took uppers and a tranquilizer at the same time. I have the body jerking side effect, and when I tried to stop the meds, I felt crazy. So I'm taking half, and it was better for 2 days, and now I'm in a fog again. I am not myself, I can't function, and work is nearly impossible. Helps anxiety, but for me, not worth it."

"I have been taking Ativan 1 mg 3x a day as needed for probably 6 years. It worked well for a while for my anxiety and was good because it didn’t knock me out. I was still able to function and not feel like I was in a fog. Now it’s become completely ineffective. Tolerance built up and I have a lot of anxiety again. I keep taking it because I have to or things will be even worse. It feels like I’m just taking it for no reason though because it’s not doing its job. I’m trying to get my doctor to change it to something else."

Lorazepam "I was put on a low dose of Ativan by my PCP one week ago for an unusual and isolated anxiety attack. He gave me a month's supply (2x a day) plus 20 mg of Celexa for depression. Ativan makes me very, very drowsy (definitely not anxious or depressed!) It's meant to have a calming effect on severely anxious individuals or help ease insomnia. I've read Ativan is prescribed to calm patients before surgery. I may have had it before surgery, but right now I believe it's unnecessary and overkill. I thought the Celexa was causing the fatigue!"

"I was hospitalized with pneumonia and was having very severe anxiety issues. I was having horrible tremors that would not stop. The first time I was put on an anti-anxiety drug, it was Buspar. That was a bad mistake. I went to the ER with such horrible tremors that I was put on lorazepam to control my tremors. I was given a 2 mg dosage, which worked like a charm to control them. I have only been on them since the tenth of October. When I saw my PCP recently, he was worried about them not being effective enough. So he upped the dosage to 0.5. I took my first dose today. Within hours of taking this, I was shaking so badly that it scared me. I called the on-call doctor at my clinic and was told to go back to the 2 mg dose. I did just that. I feel a little more under control now. But I will never use that high a dose again. On Monday, I am going to give him an earful of what happened when he decided to do this. I am not so sure that I want to stay on anti-anxiety meds after this."

"I have taken many anxiety and antidepressant medications in the last 25 years. I have taken Lorazepam for the last 13 years when needed, but for the last 2 years, my dosage was increased from 1 mg a day to 3 mg a day every 8 hours, due to 7 close family members and 4 friends passing away. This is when the trouble started, it did not work anymore. The doctor suggested I try clonazepam, this lasted about three days, thought I was dying. His next step was to wean me off Lorazepam with Diazepam. I told him that I would not use a benzo to come off a benzo, then he tells me to take 1 mg a day for 30 days. I realized he did not know what he was talking about or what to do. Then I went to my pharmacy and asked her how do I taper off safely. Thanks to her, we now have a plan."

"So I have anxiety all of the time. But it's not the textbook rocking and shaking anxiety... it's the negative and obsessive thoughts that something horrible will come in every situation. I have an as-needed Rx for lorazepam, and honestly, I don't know if I like it. I feel like it makes me groggy enough but never takes the anxiety away. It almost feels like I hover over it, but it's still underlying."

"I've also been on Xanax, clonazepam. I found that lorazepam is for longer-term maintenance of anxiety - not panic attacks. I just got off of 2 mg, 3 times a day, just because it wasn't helpful. But it does work."

"The doctors put my dad, who is 95, on Lorazepam because of anxiety, but it takes a long time to get in the system. He takes 2 a day and has been for about 8 months, and it does not help. If given right at the start of an anxiety attack, it takes over an hour to work, and then it hardly works at all. As he has 2 a day, you would think it would keep him from having anxiety or at least make it more mild."

Lorazepam "This medication worked for my anxiety but made me a complete zombie. I would forget things I was doing and just had a drowsy, I-don't-care attitude. It got rid of my anxiety but interrupted my daily work routine because I couldn't think to function. I would only recommend it if you are having extreme, jump-out-of-your-skin anxiety, otherwise, try to do things naturally. I started taking vitamins and working out regularly, and my anxiety has gone down at least 60%."

Lorazepam "I used for 6 weeks. 1 - 2 mg a day. I didn’t realize how addicting it was. I quit as it was doing nothing for me. Am currently going through severe withdrawals. Very restless. Don’t know what to do with myself. This is day 16."

Lorazepam "Took this for a short time. It worked great but wore off after a few hours, and I had terrible rebound anxiety. My PCP switched me to Klonopin, which stays in your system longer."

Lorazepam "This pill works, but is not a solution. Be wary even if you don’t have an addictive personality. I don’t, but using this only 3 days in a row, then stopped, caused me physical withdrawal symptoms! I only took 1 mg each day. After 3 days, I had rebound anxiety, tense, painful shoulders and back, neck/head pain, teeth grinding, and achy. Also, this medication makes my hair shed!! and makes me feel stupid and foggy for days after! This is definitely NOT a drug you want to play around with! My husband was prescribed this years ago, and he said also, he became “dope sick” after using just for a couple of days! Withdrawal from benzos can be really hard, so if you are trying to get off of them, consult your physician. I couldn’t imagine how bad withdrawals would be if you were on these long-term. I will keep them on hand for extreme, rare emergencies. But in the meantime, I will stick to hypnosis and taking lemon balm or passionflower herbs."

"Everyone, let me be completely honest. When I first started this medicine, it was a lifesaver, until I realized my life was starting to revolve around whether I had the medicine or not. When I didn’t have it, I got very, very sick. Throwing up, sweating, nausea, tremors, all that. Basically withdrawing. So I did what I had to, to always have it. I am weaning myself off with the help of my doctor. Your body becomes dependent on this. Don’t start it, please. It’s not worth it. And I have horrible anxiety, but it’s still not worth being a slave to a drug. There are other things that help, but not that! Please stay away!"

"I have been taking Ativan for almost three years now this second time around. The first time around, I took it for two years. I am taking 1 mg three times daily. It only lasts 3-4 hours at most. When I wake up in the morning, I have a severe headache from going 10-12 hours without Ativan, I get severe headaches and deal with confusion. I also get severe rebound anxiety often. I am currently trying to wean off of this medication now and find a more suitable medication. I wish I would have never started taking this medication."

"I have tried multiple medications for anxiety and found this one to be the least effective. For my panic attacks, it does not work as well as Klonopin, which I found to be the best. Maybe I'm on too low of a dose (0.5 mg), but I need to go back to my doctor and ask to try something different."

Lorazepam "I have been on Ativan since January 2011, started out with 0.5 mg, then went to 1 mg, and have felt better. I used them not only for my anxiety but also to sleep because I have a hard time sleeping at night. I now feel that I can stop taking the medicines for the anxiety, have not had an attack for months, but take the medicines to sleep at night. I tried to stop taking Ativan, and the withdrawals were so bad I had to start taking them again, and now going to see my doctor to help me come off them."

Lorazepam "It worked well at first. I was on 1 mg as needed after being diagnosed with M.S. I built a tolerance very quickly, even though I was only taking 1 pill 2-3 days a week. Soon, I needed 2 at a time, then 3 at a time just to slightly calm my anxiety and panic attack, not fully taking it away (at this time, I had been on them approximately a year and a half). Even the first day that I started taking Ativan took 20-30 minutes to feel the effect. Anyone who has severe anxiety or panic attacks knows that is an unbearable amount of time to feel relief. I am now on 1 mg Xanax, which is a Godsend."
