Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I have been on Mirena for over a year now and have experienced some side effects. Side effects to watch out for are severe mood swings, hair loss, depression, acne, dizziness, headaches, memory loss, and insomnia."

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had almost a constant headache when I first had it in. I gained 12 lbs in 2 weeks (thought it was water, but it stayed). Not sure if I got depression or I just didn't feel right. Got it out yesterday...no more constant headache!"

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I'm here to put your mind at ease since reading these comments helped me. September 15th, I had sex for the very first time, and it was unprotected sex, and he fully did the deed inside me. I'm not on any birth control or anything, but after the deed, I took Plan B within 30 minutes. I was 5 days away from my period. My only side effects were on Sunday, I was depressed, and I had headaches. I had no interest in eating, which is unusual for me. I didn't have an interest in drinking anything, just water, and had cramps, lower back pain, which I knew my period was coming. Listen to your bodies, ladies. BUT I GOT MY PERIOD THE DAY I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET IT. Plan B will work, have faith. This is my first time using it. You'll be just fine, I promise you. I thank God so much I learned my lesson, and never will I want to be in this position again. Plan B does work. I know I can't say don't worry because I still did, but just have faith and lots of praying. You got this, and good luck to all of you! ❤"

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had Mirena placed in January 2012 to help with very heavy periods and low iron. Relatively comfortable placement by a GP who specializes in women's wellness. Felt strong cramps for about 15 seconds during placement, other than that, it felt like getting a pap. First month, constant spotting and bleeding. Headaches. Cramps. (Very unusual for me, but also very manageable). First period, 30 days after placement, 75% reduction in bleeding and days of period as compared to my normal periods. The headaches and cramping from the first month slowly dissipated, and now I don't get either anymore. I have not had a period since February, took a pregnancy test just to be safe, it was negative. I didn't expect much from Mirena... what a great surprise!"

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I was suffering very long and heavy bleeding once my second child was weaned off and periods had come back. So it seemed a good idea to try the coil. The insertion was quite painful, and I had some cramping and bleeding, but it was manageable. However, what I didn't expect were all the side effects I was having. Hair loss, bad headaches, bad skin, backache, joint ache (couldn't run without knee pain... I have never had knee pain in my life), hot flushes, mood swings, teary, and it reduced my sex drive to nothing. I have had it in for almost a year now, and while some of the symptoms have gone, like the headaches and hot flushes, the hair loss, mood swings, joint aches, and low sex drive have stayed with me. It helped with my overall health in terms of having no periods, and therefore I had no other illnesses, but the sum of all side effects outweighs the benefits in my case."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "Plan B One-Step is a lifesaver. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. So within 4 hours after the incident, I took the pill. I was paranoid as hell, not sure whether this pill would work or not (my first time taking it and I am also young). I experienced mild cramping, headaches, and nausea for five days. But my period came on time! The key is to stay calm and let the pill do its job."

For Emergency Contraception "What a roller coaster... I've had unprotected sex exactly the day I was ovulating (Flo app). I drank the pill 35 hours after. I didn't feel anything for a week. On the 9th day, I felt like I was going crazy. I had tender boobs, headache, my right foot was also painful, unbearable cramps. I was scared it was pregnancy symptoms. Two days before my period was scheduled, all those symptoms disappeared and I felt normal again. The day came and no period. I felt like this is the end for me, I cried the whole day. The following day, it was the same thing, no period and no pains. Day 3 of being late, I experienced very light pinkish bleeding. I was convinced it was implantation bleeding. After a few hours, I started having severe cramps. I couldn't even move from the bed. It was terrible. Slowly but surely, my period started getting heavier, and today I’m on day 3 and still experiencing heavy flow and cramps. But I believe it's better than pregnancy. This pill works even during ovulation."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I hate this pill due to all the horrible side effects I experienced. I had unprotected sex with my husband when we got married on May 28th. My period happened the week prior to us having sex. I took the pill a few hours after we had sex. Everything was fine up until two weeks after I consumed the pill. I was feeling sore, tender breasts that I couldn't even wear a bra since it hurt so much, horrible cramps, I was bloated like a cow, I had to take organic teas to help me, horrible headaches, mood swings, dizziness, and nausea. I had no period for the month of June and I started to worry. Today is July 11th and I just started my period! Praise the Lord! Pill works, horrible side effects. Six-week late period."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I got this IUD about 2 months after my second son was born in December of 2017. My husband said that he could feel pinching while we had intercourse. I went and got it checked, and the doctor said she would shorten the strings. I had ALL THE SYMPTOMS (headaches, nausea, diarrhea, fever, cold chills, bloating, cramps; but no period). This lasted for months, and it happened around the time I should have gotten my period. I’ve had only spotting. Well, fast forward to YESTERDAY (2/24/2020), the doctor says she CAN’T find the IUD and cannot even FEEL IT! All was GREAT until she couldn’t find it! I’m scheduled for an ultrasound next week to see if they can find it! I actually enjoyed this birth control. Side effects because, hey, let's be honest, this isn’t supposed to be in our bodies! My periods basically completely stopped! I just hope it didn’t embed itself."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "So my bf and I had sex on June 24th, we decided to go raw for a little bit just to see how it felt (stupid, I know). A couple of days later, I checked my period tracker app on my phone, and it said I ovulated the night we had sex, and even though he didn't cum in me when we did it raw, precum has sperm in it! I ran to the drugstore in a panic and took Plan B (about 42 hours after). The day I took it, I had a slight headache, other than that, no side effects. I was worried the pill didn't work. I stayed up all night reading reviews from other women and worried myself to death. Yesterday, I got my period 2 days before I was supposed to. The pill works, don't overthink it!"

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "The condom broke around 6 pm (Wednesday). I was devastated and extremely angry. The next day (Thursday) around 1, I went to CVS Pharmacy and bought Plan B One-Step over the counter. I had a headache and tense breasts right after taking the pill for a few days. I was paranoid and thought it was pregnancy symptoms. I have a calendar, and my period was due the following week (Saturday) to be exact. Days of being extremely paranoid and dealing with little side effects went by. Until my period came when expected! Plan B works! Just wanted to explain my experience with teenagers like me... There is an option! Do not wait too long to take this pill."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I had sex on July 4, and he pulled out, but I was worried about precum. I checked my period tracker, and it said it was my first day of my fertile window. I bought the Plan B, and I took it at the 25-hour mark. I was okay the first few days until, like the 8th, I started having bad headaches, nausea, fatigue, everything, but then everything got better. It wasn’t until the 15th where I had EVERY symptom of pregnancy in the book: nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, chills, loss of appetite. I was SO SURE I was pregnant. I started getting worried and assumed either that or I had the flu. On the 16th, I had a thick discharge, and on the 17th, I started spotting. At first, it was light and brown, but it grew heavier and started becoming pink and red. It continued into the 18th, and late that night, I started my actual period, which was 4 days earlier! I am so THANKFUL for this pill. If you’re reading this, PLEASE know it works, and just calm down. Stay strong, loves."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "Listen, I had sex on 01/08/16, and the condom came off when he withdrew. It was everywhere. I took Plan B about 13 hours later. I got every side effect ever: nausea, bloating, VERY TIRED, headache, lower back pain, and cramps!!! Lots of cramps!!! I will not tell you to relax because I couldn't relax AT ALL for two weeks. I had no sign of a period at all for over a week and a half. I woke up every day freaking out! Yesterday, I got spotting, and then my mind raced, and I googled everything! Today, AF came, 12 days after Plan B and 1 week late on my period. It absolutely messes with your hormones, and you will be hypersensitive to every side effect you get, and I KNOW you will think you're pregnant as soon as you feel a sign, but it is the hormones."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "Okay, so I had unprotected sex the day after my period. I started panicking three days later and bought Take Action since there wasn’t any Plan B. I ended up seeing the scary reviews and not taking it that day, but after a pregnancy dream, I took it the next day on day 4. Needless to say, I had no major symptoms. Just some headaches, a bit of dizziness (which could’ve been caused by my anxiety), and I was super anxious because I was scared I was pregnant. Well, 6 days later, I started cramping and then later I was bleeding, and I bled for like a day and a half to 2 days. I’m almost certain it worked! I’ll keep you guys updated though!!"

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I took Plan B about 5-6 hours after the incident. My P tracker app showed I was fertile and one day before ovulation. The pill worked as it should have. I felt the side effects within hours of taking the pill - nausea, breast tenderness, headache, cramping, had to go to the bathroom all the time. Panicked for two weeks reading horror stories about it not working. But it did its job. Got my period one day early. Seems slightly heavier than normal."

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I bled and cramped for a solid month. Then the headaches, acne, and breast tenderness started. I've gained 10 lbs in four months with this thing. The inches are all going to my waist. And now to add to the cramping, I have extreme bloating. It's so bad it distracts me from my job because it's painful to sit. I've not been on a hormonal birth control in five years, so there's no other explanation for these changes. I'm getting it removed."

Levonorgestrel for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had the Mirena inserted in January 2015 (I was 35) for endometriosis. POSITIVES: No unexpected pregnancies, my period stopped completely within 6 months, and cramping from my endometriosis virtually ceased to exist. *AMAZING!!* NEGATIVES: 1) Complete and utter exhaustion (bed by 9 pm and by 6 am, I literally drag myself to the shower because I'm still tired). 2) Depression. 3) Mood swings. 4) Sjogren's Syndrome diagnosis. 5) Significant joint pain. 6) Constant headaches. 7) Constant bloating. 8) Autoimmune disorder. 9) Weight gain! I've always been an obsessively health-conscious individual. Spinning, lifting daily because I'm vain, let's be honest. At the time I had my IUD inserted, I had visible abs... Now, I have a pot belly, 'thick thighs,' some back fat, and my calves have gotten bigger (WTF?!). My routines have not changed, and I've weighed my food since I was 25, eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ONLY change that's occurred since is the Mirena!"

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I'm 18 years old. My boyfriend and I had protected sex, but the condom broke, and I woke up the next morning feeling sick, so I had him go buy me this pill. Needless to say, it worked, and I'm not pregnant. However, the side effects are insane. I immediately had terrible back pain (never had that before), cramps that felt like period cramps, nausea, dizziness, headaches, and bloating. I had to miss a day of school due to the insane amount of side effects. Not to mention, my period came a week after taking the pill when I wasn't supposed to get my period for 2 more weeks! That's frustrating because I just had my period last week, and now I have it again, even heavier this time. But on a positive note, I'm not pregnant!!"

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "The first week of being on Plan B, I didn’t really see any side effects. It was the second week when it hit me pretty hard, which is concerning as to why doctors do not say that! I had nausea, crying spells, extremely sore breasts, and headaches. My symptoms still show up more than a month later! The third week, I started to have some spotting and what they call 'withdrawal bleeding,' so I don’t know if that was my period or not? My period did not come on the date that it was supposed to… I was 24 days late. Ladies, you need to remember these things: 1. Stay off of Google and stick to this realistic forum. 2. Realize that you dropped a Hiroshima bomb full of hormones in your body, so it’s going to throw everything out of whack, and every body is different. 3. If you are late, take a pregnancy test for answers."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I told myself to write a review if it worked or not. I took Plan B over a month ago, a day later from my experience, which I know was better late than never. I had horrible side effects, though, for the next 3-5 weeks. I bled for 3 days a week after taking it, then had cramps, headaches, and weird bloating. I was super anxious that it had failed, and I went on here to read the reviews to help me stress less. Well, I finally got my period, and it’s super bad but 17 days late. Stress will delay your period further, and I know it’s hard not to worry about it. I will never do this again, it’s not worth the stress, but at least I know I’m okay now."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I had unprotected sex on June 1st. The condom broke, and I was in my fertile days. I have been on birth control pills for like 5 years, but the last couple of months, I had not been taking them responsibly. I was pretty worried, so I took Aftera. 1) Aftera is the SAME as Plan B, it is the generic version. 2) Once I took Aftera, I had the worst nausea of my life. I stayed in bed all day, and I had abdominal cramping for 2 weeks. 3) Aftera WORKS. I went to my doctor on June 14th for a blood pregnancy test (they are more accurate) because I couldn't wait any longer to know. It came back negative. After convincing myself I was pregnant for 2 very long, stressful weeks, I found out I wasn't, and Aftera did its job. I have taken Aftera before and did not have any side effects, but this time I had pretty bad ones: spotting (the week before my period, which made me think it was implantation bleeding), headaches, bad cramping, nausea, etc. All in all, like everyone says on here, trust the pill."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "About a month ago, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. We are only 19 and not ready to be parents, so I did some research and found Plan B as an option. Still, I was scared because it was only our first time... I bought it that same day, and about 5 hours later I took it. I really thought it wasn't going to work, and about a week later I started feeling like crap. I started spotting, I felt bloated along with being gassy, breast tenderness, cramps, headaches, and nausea. I was freaking out when I saw all of those were signs of pregnancy. I was so stressed, but then my period came. So DO NOT STRESS or look up anything to freak you out! It's not worth all of it... let God do His job and you'll be fine."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "My boyfriend and I had sex about 2 weeks ago, and the condom broke. As teenagers with our whole life ahead of us, we absolutely freaked. We drove to the store, and I took the pill within 20-30 minutes after the mishap. After reading these reviews (much like some of you panicking right now), it really helped me to feel better. A week later, on my usual day, I got my period! I experienced some nausea, headaches, tender breasts, and weird moods, but it didn't help that I was already suffering from a minor cold. I am so happy and thankful for Plan B - it literally saved my life!!! My best advice is to stay as calm as possible - stressing can make the symptoms and waiting worse. Let your guy know you need as much support as possible! Breathe, ladies :)"

Levonorgestrel for Birth Control "I had an awful, detrimental, as well as disfiguring experience with the Skyla IUD. There were, with Skyla, emotional side effects and more. I don't recommend this to any women who has had past experience with anxiety or depression, or whose bodies are extremely sensitive to hormonal additives. These past two months have been awfully miserable for me. I have fallen back into my depression and anxiety, my hair has fallen out, I have slightly lost my appetite, I developed awful rashes all over my body and more. I essentially turned into my worst enemy, into a monster. There have been days, many days, where I haven't been able to get out of bed. I have a history of migraine headaches, and with the IUD, I found myself suffering from tension and migraine headaches every day. I am a cancer survivor, and I could say that these emotional side effects exceeded the physical side effects I had from chemo."

Levonorgestrel for Emergency Contraception "I had an incident on 11/26/14, so that same morning, 11/27, I went and got a Plan B. That same day, symptoms kicked in hard: headache, severe nausea, and cramps, and it's still going on because today I started bleeding, 12/5, and my period always comes at the end of the month. I guess this is just confirmation that the pill works and I will still get my period around the end of December."
