For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I got the coil to help with heavy bleeding. It went horribly from the start. I’d read it could be painful to get put in and varied from person to person, and an ibuprofen was recommended beforehand, which I took, however, the pain, which was described as a pinch, felt more like I’d been stabbed. The most nauseating cramps I’d ever gotten enveloped me - worst pain I’ve ever felt (only 19, by the way). I was in bed for the rest of the day because the cramps were so severe and constant. They continued for two weeks after. Immediately after inserting it, I began to bleed lightly - this continued on for a year nonstop aside from two days here and there. After three months, I had a check-up, and they assured me it was normal and would stop. I went traveling, hoping for the best and willing to give it a year, but last week marked a year, and the bleeding was still continuous. So I finally got it removed. That actually felt like a pinch and was much better than insertion."

For Emergency Contraception "I promised myself I would come back and write on here if I got my period. This has been the most stressful two months of my life. I had unprotected sex on October 31 and was ovulating. I took Plan B on November 1 around 4 p.m. I started very lightly bleeding on November 7, but I know it wasn’t my period. I had no PMS symptoms, and it was watery. It was also very short and exactly like implantation bleeding. I usually get my period on the 19th. Thank God I found this thread because I was convinced I was pregnant. On December 9, I took three pregnancy tests, they were all negative, but I still wasn’t convinced because my last actual period was October 19th. Today, on December 16th, I woke up and got my period! I am so happy. Trust the process, it really works! You just need to think logically and not with anxiety! You got this, stay strong, and don’t let your anxiety make you overthink!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've had this for over 9 weeks, no side effects, didn't make me moody or anything, except I've been bleeding nonstop, switches from light spotting to almost like postpartum bleeding! I'm giving it another month or so and if this bleeding doesn't stop, then I'm getting this out! The reason this birth control works is because it refrains you from having sex because you're constantly bleeding."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had the Mirena put in 9/4/13. It is 11/5/13, and I have not had a single day without bleeding! This is so effective at birth control because you can't possibly have sex with all the bleeding it causes. I am 38, of average weight, and had it inserted for birth control, not to treat any other symptom. For me, getting it inserted was mildly uncomfortable but was over quickly. I was able to go running that same day, so I wasn't uncomfortable at all. I did take 800mg of ibuprofen before the appointment. The first 2 weeks, I broke out with really nasty acne along my jawline. I think my hair has thinned. I have also experienced Migraine with aura. My Mirena is until Jan. If this hasn't fixed itself, it's coming out."

For Birth Control "Enjoying the idea of the Mirena more than having it at the moment. Got it inserted on 10th September 2014, the day that my period finished and have had a heavy period ever since. It's great to not take a pill every day, and sex isn't painful as I worried, although there isn't any need to worry because the bleeding is preventing that from happening. I just really hope it settles down and that the bleeding stops. Very jealous of everyone who only had a day or two of spotting."

For Birth Control "The insertion was one of the most painful experiences I've had in my life (my body simulated labor). Upon insertion, I felt extreme menstrual cramps that had me doubled over in pain, nauseous, and lightheaded. I took 2 Tylenol beforehand (as directed), and the extremely intense cramps subsided within the hour. Cramps were much more bearable from then on. I had light bleeding for the following 2 weeks after insertion. I had cramps here and there, but nothing severe at all. I now have my IUD for 5 months, and my experience has been super positive! Little to no cramping for the past 3-4 months, and I no longer get periods. I'm not sure that I will get the IUD again when my current one has to be taken out in 5 years, but my experience has been favorable thus far (besides the insertion, but it was worth the very temporary pain). I recommend Kyleena to people who don't love taking the pill and want reliable birth control that they won't have to constantly worry about. Hope this helps!"

For Birth Control "PLEASE DO RESEARCH BEFORE GETTING THE KYLEENA IUD :( Getting this thing in is one of my biggest regrets! First off, it hurt SO BAD to get in... After insertion, I bled for almost 60 days straight!!!!! It was medium to light spotting EVERY SINGLE DAY! If that was not enough... I developed an ovarian cyst! Sometimes the pain would be so bad I would just cry... THEN I started going through - and still am going through till I get it removed - major insomnia, mood swings, and even depression. Oh, also not to mention I get constant yeast infections because of the IUD, and it constantly smells like fish (BV). Don’t forget the cystic acne either! Oh, and one more thing... the strings were cut too short, so they went back into my uterus, and now I have to get surgery to get it removed :) So thank you, Kyleena, for giving me depression, mood swings, cystic acne, an ovarian cyst, insomnia, constant bleeding for 60 days, and lost strings that now have to be surgically removed."

For Emergency Contraception "I took Plan B the next day after having unprotected sex (even though he withdrew before cumming, but I didn’t want to take any chances). A week later, I started bleeding - enough to use a sanitary napkin and a few blood clots. A few days after that (so about 10-14 days after taking Plan B), I have very, very sore breasts, some abdominal cramping, and I am very tired! I have taken four tests and all are negative. I have never had such strong side effects from Plan B. I hope (and it seems to be the case) that I’m not pregnant. It’s been 15 days since unprotected sex and 2 days since my period is supposed to start, and the tests are negative. So I am hoping these are just side effects. But boy, what side effects! This stuff screws with your body and mind so powerfully! I have taken Plan B maybe three times before in my life and I have never had side effects."

For Birth Control "I was on the pill for 2 years and LOVED IT. I never ever missed a pill but decided, why not try the IUD since it’ll be stress-free. The worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life, I seriously almost cried, followed by a whole day of bad cramps. The doctor made it clear that irregular bleeding and spotting is very common up to at least 3-6 months. It’s been 9 months now, and this was my biggest regret. Some months I get spotting and discharge for weeks straight. The past few months I’ve had 2 periods in one month. My MAIN complaint is that if I’m not bleeding, I’m spotting or discharging, I rarely get a break. I was thinking about waiting until the one-year mark since I’ve heard so many rave about the IUD, but... don’t think my patience can take any longer. Having to wear a pantyliner every single day for nearly a year is awful. I miss my pills :("

For Emergency Contraception "I usually don't leave reviews, but I feel like I could ease some minds. Ladies, take a deep breath. It works. Trust me. I'm a bigger girl who's way over the 'weight limit,' and it was 100% effective for me, even after I had unprotected sex on my most fertile day! Symptoms can scare you as they are exactly like pregnancy symptoms, such as sore breasts and random bleeding. Like I said, relax. If you have taken the pill as directed, you'll be fine."

For Emergency Contraception "I had unprotected sex the day before I started ovulating, and took the morning-after pill 7 hours after the sex. An hour after taking the pill, I had cramps, bleeding, and felt really tired. The next week, I had breast tenderness and sometimes what felt like cramps. My advice is to take it ASAP, to not panic, and don't read Plan B horror stories. Go into Planned Parenthood and talk to someone if you need peace of mind, or you can chat with someone online, I did, and it helped me a lot. I got my period two days early, and it was slightly heavier than normal. Try to relax and let the pill do what it does, and take it day by day. It's going to be okay, whatever happens it's going to be okay."

For Emergency Contraception "Yes, it does work extremely well. I had sex with a condom on my day of ovulation, but we didn’t know until after that the whole condom split and he came fully into me! So I was freaking out and I raced out and got the off-brand Plan B. They all work the same, it’s the same medication and dosage! Afterwards, I spotted brown blood and felt bloated for about a week. I was also moody and got the feeling that I had to throw up. But don’t worry, this is a completely normal side effect. Symptoms of Plan B and pregnancy are the exact same since the hormone used in Plan B is the one that is produced when a woman is pregnant. Today, I got my period after about a week and a half of nail biting. I was worried since I read that it doesn’t work during ovulation, but it’s almost impossible to know if you are ovulating since there is no way of knowing. I can consider myself extremely lucky and learned my lesson! Good luck and trust the medication, it wouldn’t be on the market if it didn’t work!"

For Birth Control "I had Mirena inserted almost 4 months ago. I experienced heavy bleeding about 2 weeks after I got it and every day after that up until the 2nd month. It started off heavy and gradually lightened up but the heavy bleeding lasted almost a month, and it was every day. The doctor that inserted it said this was normal and the further from the insertion date I got it, it would get better. I've found this to be true. I am happy with Mirena."

For Birth Control "I had my Skyla IUD inserted on 04 Sep 2014, so I am only commenting on my first month after having it inserted. I am a 33-year-old woman, no children, and hormonal birth control was no longer agreeing with my body (mood swings, heavy bleeding, large clots, periods lasting 2 weeks, etc.). My doctor and I agreed to the Skyla IUD (I had already done research). So far, so good. I haven't had any mood or sex drive changes and feel 100% better than I did on oral contraceptives. Out of pocket, my IUD would have cost $1400. My insurance covered 100% of it. Update: Month #4 and still no issues. No side effects. I keep track of everything so I know what to expect and when until my body fully adjusts."

For Emergency Contraception "Okay, guys, please do not panic. So let me tell y'all about my experience: Before the Plan B, I started my period on November 1st. I had sex on November 14 and took the pill the next morning, not even 24 hours after. The pill does have side effects. I bled a week after I took the Plan B, and after I bled, I felt tired. I would feel weird, like I had to throw up and everything (in the morning), so I started panicking because it was December 15 and still no period. So I took a test and it was negative. I was going to wait another week and take the test, but before I could take it, December 27 is when my period appeared. Don’t worry, y’all, and don’t listen to what you see and stop panicking."

For Emergency Contraception "I swore I'd only share my experience if the pill worked, and it did. I had protected sex on January 2nd, and my bf came inside of me. When he pulled out, he saw the condom had broken. My period is really irregular (30-60 days), so I didn't know if I was ovulating or not because it happened on the 14th day of my period. I took the pill 1 hour later, and 5 days after, I had light bleeding, which is normal, and it lasted for 5 days. I took a pregnancy test 16 days after, and it came out negative. I took another test 30 days after I took the pill (44th day of my period), and it came out negative, so I was really relaxed, and my period just came like one hour ago (52nd day of my period). I hope the same happens to all of you. Good luck, and I hope this review calms you down a little :)"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm a 54-year-old postmenopausal woman who had polyps. Up until I was diagnosed with the polyps, I had not had a period in well over 9 years. I had them removed and was told the lining of my uterus was too thick, and it was recommended I have the Mirena coil inserted to help thin my uterine lining. The insertion, done on 11/5/2019, was no problem, just slight discomfort. A week after it was inserted, I started bleeding. I have all of the classic period symptoms: cramps, back pain, etc. It is now Dec. 13, 2019, and I have been bleeding nonstop for 32 days. I have talked to my doctor numerous times, and she tells me this is normal and I just need to let it settle. How can it be normal to go from being done with menopause to bleeding constantly??? I was going to wait another month and see if the bleeding would stop, but after reading all of the reviews here, I will now insist on having this thing removed. I strongly advise anyone thinking about getting the Mirena coil to NOT do it!"

For Birth Control "DO NOT GET THIS. I'M TELLING YOU THIS NOW! Many people, like myself, have read the reviews and thought, oh no, that won’t be me. It’ll be fine. I'M DIFFERENT. Well - no, I’m not. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Constantly bleeding, I can’t even HAVE sex, constant cramping and discomfort. Nausea. Dizziness. And the worst of all is the HORMONES. All I do is cry. Getting it out asap."

For Birth Control "This is my experience so far for anyone considering a Mirena coil. I ummed and erred for months because of negative reviews, and my concerns were: 1) Would insertion hurt? The answer was no, I've had more painful cervical smears than the insertion of my Mirena coil. 2) Would it mess with my monthly cycle? Yes, it did. I bled constantly (in an array of colors!) for the obligatory three months that the GP told me to wait until my body got used to it. Then it was another month before I finally went back to my GP and said, 'Help.' She gave me a progesterone pill and told me to take it for a month. I only took it for one week! It did the job, I stopped bleeding and have gone on to a normal cycle. My periods only last a couple of days, do not hurt, and are light (just a smear of blood). I am 47, and compared to the heavy periods I was having before, it's a walk in the park. 3) Would I put on weight? No, not so far. I feel thinner around the middle. 4) Would I lose my sex drive? No, not so far. I was worried about this, however, I am happy to say that I have noticed no difference. Sex is just as welcome and enjoyable as before. 5) Would I get spots? No. The doctor told me that this was less likely because the hormonal content is tiny and localized to the womb. She was right. All in all, it was the right decision for me. I am very happy. I hope this post helps others."

For Birth Control "It was the most pain I have ever felt when I got it put in. I just laid on the table after the insertion because I wasn't sure if I was going to pass out or not. I bled for 4 months straight after getting it put in. I feel like I woke up one day and gained 20 lbs. I am an active person and stay on a healthy diet, but it didn't matter because I still gained weight. I just feel bloated ALL THE TIME. I also got put on prescription acne medicine because I break out around my mouth constantly. My periods are super irregular. Sometimes I don't have a period for a couple of months and then I have a period twice a month. I will say that my periods are significantly lighter! The cramping is one of the main reasons I am going to get it taken out because they are AWFUL. I know that the IUD works for some people, it just did not work for me. The only good thing about it is not having to worry about getting pregnant, but I don't think it is worth it."

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena for 2 years, this is my experience. I am a fit, healthy 25-year-old woman with a background in healthcare and no existing medical conditions or symptoms before Kyleena. The procedure for insertion I found to be okay. After, I had unbearable cramping for about 3 months and irregular bleeding. For the past 2 years, I have experienced increasing anxiety and depression. Uterine pain during sports such as rock climbing, skiing, kayaking, running, etc., that didn’t used to be painful. Additionally, I experienced decreased libido, pain during sex, recurrent yeast infections, vaginal dryness, nausea, headaches, back pain, insomnia, and my period stopped altogether. Two months ago, I got the Kyleena removed, I am aware of the placebo effect, etc. The removal was painless. The first 3 days after removal, I experienced extreme mood swings and heavy bleeding. But ever since then, I am happy to say I have had none of these side effects anymore and feel like myself."
