For Birth Control "I am 24, and I decided to get the Kyleena inserted in September 2018, right after having an abortion under general anesthesia. After reading many reviews, I was terrified of the side effects but decided to try it out, especially since I wouldn't have to go through the pain of insertion. I experienced light spotting and cramping for two weeks and then resumed my regular monthly period shortly after, with minimal cramping during the time of the month. No other side effects in terms of weight gain, mood changes, skin changes (surprisingly, as this is my first form of birth control). So far, I am happy with my Kyleena and glad to have peace of mind. Just remember everyone's experience will be different, and you just have to find what works for you. Good luck if you decide to try the Kyleena!"

For Birth Control "I’ve had a great experience with Kyleena so far! I’m 24, and I have tried multiple birth controls before this (including the pill and the Nexplanon implant). The other birth controls made me extremely depressed, so I was nervous to try Kyleena (it’s not exactly easy to remove). I’m not going to lie, the insertion was *extremely* painful. I almost jumped off the table. Thankfully, it lasted not even 2 minutes. I cramped for several hours afterward, but the pain went away completely after that. I’ve had Kyleena for several months now, and I have to say it is completely worth it. I’ve experienced no bad side effects—no mood swings, no depression. I also haven’t had a period since the first month, so that’s a plus. If you’re on the fence about this, I would go for it."

For Birth Control "I got on Kyleena about a year ago. The IUD was great for a whole year until about a month ago when I went through an ovarian cyst rupturing. I thought it was a one-time thing and that my pain would go away, but I was wrong. I began having 14-day heavy periods with cramps that would take my breath away because they were so painful. I was also experiencing major mood swings towards the end of the year. That went on for 3 months until I decided to take it out. My doctor suggested the NuvaRing, so I’m hoping this works better for my body."

For Birth Control "I'm 39 years old, and before Kyleena, I was on the Mirena. I switched due to lower hormones suggested by my gyno. The insertion was painful, and I've had it now for 3 months. I'm comparing it to the Mirena because that's what I am used to, but the Kyleena is painful, especially when you're due for your period. I stopped bleeding, but during that time of my supposed period, I get bad cramps and a really foul smell. Also, my acne is bad, I have never experienced bad skin until now. My mood swings are unexpected and frequent. I'm giving it another month, perhaps my body needs more time to get used to it, but so far, it has been a bad experience."

For Birth Control "I used to fully support any birth control until I had Kyleena inserted in 2019. Pain was horrible for a few hours, my period was on for about 3 months, so I would take birth control pills just to make it stop. The doctor told me to wait 6 months. Anyway, I kept it only because they kept saying to wait. I had periods 2x a month for 10 days with horrible cramps when before it only lasted 3 days max and no cramps. After 1 year, it finally stopped, but I developed anxiety, which I never had before, and mood swings were so bad I literally started to dislike myself. I kept getting yeast infections even when I wasn’t having sex, that was enough for me, so I finally got it removed in September 2021, and my body is back to normal. I don’t even get sad like I used to and no more deadly cramps. Lol, thinking of going back to the patch, had no problems. I wouldn’t recommend this one."

For Birth Control "I have had Kyleena for over a month, so I figured if there was something bad, it would've happened by now, but I LOVE it! I have a little fatigue, but I stay on top with my liquid vitamins. My cycle was little to none, and my moods have stabilized greatly! It has helped with my mood swings and PMS symptoms. The insert felt like I was giving birth, but she gave me something to relax my cervix, so make sure you ask for that. I was able to go to work two hours later, but I took four Motrin afterward. I'm getting ready to teach overseas, and I'm super happy I won't have to worry about periods. I have lost weight, and I have been able to lose weight quickly, which is weird because my diet has been horrible lately. I had a couple of breakouts due to me being on and getting off my cycle, but a spot treatment works. My parents are happy they don't have to worry about my mood swings and possible babies. TRY IT!"

For Birth Control "I am 40 and have teenagers. I do not want more children, so the IUD seemed perfect. I did well on the pill, but the IUD seemed flawless. Unfortunately, it was very painful getting it put in. They measured me and said I was a perfect size for it. The next few months, I became totally bloated and very emotional. My breasts hurt, and I had two-week periods. After six months, I started bleeding brown and throwing up. My doctor said the IUD had migrated out of place and it had to be removed. Even though I paid $1,300 cash for it because my insurance did not cover it, I was relieved to have it removed. Within two days, I lost a ton of bloat and a couple of lbs. So sad it did not work out for me. I was really hopeful."

For Birth Control "I agree it was painful, and I too have experienced unpredictable spotting for the past 3 weeks. I have also experienced a lot of cramping and some mood swings. Thank goodness for a patient boyfriend! I plan to tough it out for the 3-month timeline the brochure discusses, though. I'll update this later on."

For Birth Control "I chose to get on BC because it made my bf and me feel safer about preventing pregnancy. I had the Kyleena inserted in Feb 2019, and insertion was NOT terrible. Insertion pain was a 3 and very tolerable. I didn’t have much spotting after insertion, but I did have the worst period EVER for my first cycle. Normally, I never got cramps or had a heavy flow, but this first period was awful (severe cramping only on the first day though). Afterwards, it has been smooth sailing, and I love my IUD. I haven’t noticed any weight changes (I do work out 3x a week) or acne. I will occasionally get PMS as far as mood changes or cramping, but they’re short. Since insertion, my period has been a little heavier than my pre-insertion period, but I have noticed it lessening over time. I would take this heavier period with peace of mind EVERYTIME. Get Kyleena. Ps. It did make sex more difficult as my bf can feel the strings poke him, even after I got them cut at my checkup appt."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena put in about three years ago. I will be honest-getting it put in hurt for a couple of minutes. I did cramp for the rest of the day, but it wasn’t too painful after the insertion. For the next couple of months, I had a lot of spotting. I did end up with BV, which I think was due to having small amounts of blood changing my pH balance. It took a while (boric acid suppositories and probiotics helped) to get my pH back in check. Now I wear an absorbent panty liner or a light tampon 1-3 days a month, and that’s about it. I still do get some mood swings, but don’t have all the issues I had before, including heavy bleeding (requiring both pads and super plus tampons) for up to 2 weeks a month and terrible PMS issues. I am very pleased with my IUD-it did take me 6 months or so for things to even out, but overall, I think it is great!"

For Birth Control "I'll start by saying that I typically have really painful periods, and cramping is usually bad for me in the first few days. I was never told by my doctor how painful insertion would be, and if I had known, you could not pay me all the money in the world to do it again. The pain was so severe I was screaming in the office, it felt like someone took a knife to my uterus, and there were constant sharp pains while she was measuring and 'stabilizing my uterus.' Worst pain I have ever felt in my life, and if it is anything like having kids, I will not even bother having them now. I've had it for a week, and I'm still experiencing awful cramps. Seeing these reviews, I really hope I do not have more acne and mood swings, but honestly, it doesn't seem like this will help me at all with that, only make it worse. Good luck if you do this, and make sure to take a pain reliever prior, as I didn't, and it was torture."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena inserted in the beginning of September of 2017. The insertion was uncomfortable, but short-lived. Here are some of the side effects I experienced and the time frame which I experienced them in: 0-2 weeks after insertion: - cramping, spotting, oily skin, extremely sensitive nipples. 2 weeks to 1 month: - occasional cramping and spotting. Oily skin turned into pimples, mostly on my chin. Nipples no longer sensitive. 1 month - 2 months: - occasional cramping and spotting, usually about once a month (could be my 'period'). Some cramping during strenuous exercise. Pimples. Extreme mood swings and issues controlling my appetite and weight. 3 months - present: - occasional cramping. Pimples. Weight/appetite under control again."

"Recommended by ob-gyn for possible lessening of unbearable side effects of severe endo for which surgery was performed long ago, perimenopausal unpredictable periods, and IBS symptoms worsened horribly during periods. Never pregnant due to infertility. Helped tremendously by moving me on into menopause (confirmed with blood tests and ultrasounds). Had it inserted while out for another minor ob-gyn procedure (awesome, didn’t have to stress about the insertion process). Haven’t had any problems-love it, gave me my life back. No effect on sex, moods, no movement of IUD, no cramping or spotting-everything improved. Progesterone alone wasn’t enough to control the mood swings with menopause, had to get back on low-dose estrogen...but Kyleena provides progesterone protection for HRT. Very happy with it, would have never considered an IUD before this one came out. Like that it’s smaller, 5 years, not seeing too many problems reported so far."

For Birth Control "I switched from birth control pill to birth control pill, all of which I had adverse reactions to, such as mood swings, extremely low sex drive, weight gain, and painful sex. I finally decided to get an IUD and went with Kyleena. The insertion was very painful for me, and the most severe cramps occurred for the rest of the day. In the days that followed, the cramps subsided, and a month later I don’t even know it’s there! I have no mood swings, and my sex drive has finally returned so I can enjoy my sex life again. I had no spotting either. I recommend this to anyone who has any issues with the pill and other types of birth control."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena inserted in May, and my periods have been getting better, lasting just 1 week every month. The only con there is to it is just getting it put in, you will cuss like a sailor because of the pain, but luckily it doesn't last more than a minute, and I never had a baby before. My partner doesn't feel it during sex. I had no mood changes, no acne, no weight gain, it's the best birth control ever! I will get it again in 5 years."

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena for about 5 months now. The insertion was honestly horrible. I was sweaty, I puked, and nearly passed out. The first month had lots of cramping, but it wasn't too unbearable. Overall, I like the Kyleena as my birth control because it isn't something I have to worry about too often. My periods have stopped completely. I just get some light spotting a couple of times a month. My only complaints would just be that it has caused me to have lots of mood swings and depression and anxiety issues, and I've ended up gaining some weight, but that could be my own fault unless the birth control makes my appetite increase a lot."

For Birth Control "It’s been about 5 months since my insertion of Kyleena. Now, before Kyleena, I had what others would call the perfect period. It lasted 2-3 days of light bleeding. I had no acne, weighed 110 pounds, experienced no cramps, mood swings, or any period symptoms at all, really. After getting Kyleena, I 100% regret it. Every month, I get the most god-awful cramps, and my breasts get so sore and sensitive I can’t even wear a bra on those days. I experience extreme mood swings that my boyfriend can confirm (poor guy). I get waves of depression quite often, and I have gained 20 pounds since being on Kyleena. I work out religiously and maintain a healthy diet, but I still gained a lot of weight. This is by far my worst experience on birth control, really debating on getting it removed soon. I might wait it out until I hit the 1-year mark, but if you’re researching Kyleena, I highly recommend you discuss in detail the side effects with your doctor and the possibilities of the negative outcomes."

For Birth Control "I was really nervous about getting an IUD, but it’s been good overall. I haven’t experienced any acne or weight gain, though I feel bloated in my tummy often. Insertion wasn’t bad at all, just like a big cramp. I was on my period when I had it inserted, which I heard was better because of the slight cervical dilation during menstruation. I’ve had it for about 4 months now, and I have experienced very painful period cramps and emotional fluctuations, though they’ve lessened each month."

For Birth Control "My wife’s gynecologist recommended she get Kyleena. The insertion caused no pain, but then she started bleeding very heavily for about a month. She was also experiencing severe lower back pain. We took her back to the doctor. He said all was okay. After the first month, the bleeding did stop for a week, then came back for 6 weeks without stopping. There was also a constant mucus discharge. At the same time, she started to develop severe acne along her hairline, down past her ears to her chin. Nothing visible at the surface, but deep and painful bumps that she has never had before. After 6 months of bleeding, acne, back pain, and mood swings, we went back to the doctor, who said all this is expected up to 6 months and is about to taper off. We tried for another month. Nothing changed - constant bleeding, discharge, and acne. In September, she had it removed. The lower back pain stopped on the same day. The bleeding stopped within a week. The acne cleared up within two weeks."

For Birth Control "When I first got Kyleena, I bled for about 6 weeks straight. I didn’t really mind because after, I never got my period. Soon after having it, I started developing horrible acne. I’ve never had cystic acne in my life, but Kyleena made me break out in deep, painful zits that started on my chin and moved up to my whole face. It also caused VERY bad mood swings, where one day I’d lay on the couch depressed, then the next I was completely fine. I decided to get it removed after I couldn’t take the acne anymore. If you don’t have acne-prone skin and don’t want to take a pill, I’d hesitantly recommend Kyleena. Also, for me, insertion and removal didn’t hurt at all, besides a slight pinch, but everybody’s different!"

For Birth Control "Had my Kyleena coil in for six weeks now exactly, and I have had nothing but constant headaches, breast tenderness, my face is breaking out in spots, my skin is really oily, and I have mood swings, one minute I’m happy, the next I want to cry. I got up today, and I am bleeding, nothing too heavy, but I’ve had severe backache and tummy cramps for the last week. The downside is I just feel miserable all the time. I hope my body adjusts to this because I’m scared about having it removed if it does not work for me, as when having it fitted, I nearly fainted due to the intense pain."

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena put in about 3 months ago. The insertion was painful, but nothing I couldn’t handle, cramps that only lasted for a minute. After it was over, I felt fine until I stood up. I was extremely lightheaded and felt like I was going to throw up. I was out of there probably 20 minutes after the insertion and experienced about 5-8 legit contractions. I bled for about 2 days, and now my periods are light, and I have noticed the spotting isn’t as bad as it was in the beginning. Overall, it was worth all of that pain. Not to mention, I feel as if most of my water weight has disappeared post-pill, and I don't have any mood swings or acne, which is a plus too. And no babies for 5 years!"

For Birth Control "I'm on my 5th year of the Kyleena. I'm having it removed tomorrow. Insertion hurt so bad. I believe I was given Naproxen (Aleve) prior to the appointment, but it didn't help. The doctor actually laughed at me and scolded me, asking me how I'd ever have children if I couldn't even handle this. Um, excuse me, but isn't the point of getting the IUD to NOT have children? Anyway, it hurt, and I recall feeling like I was being split in half. I think I cramped for a few days afterward. Since insertion: chronic pelvic pain (due to tight pelvic floor muscles, could be due to the IUD as it started a month after), a cyst rupture, surgery to test for endometriosis (due to the pelvic floor pain), bloating, really light, short periods (yay), and possibly mood swings. I'm not entirely sure if the mood swings are caused by the IUD, but I guess I'll find out after this week. 4/10. Never had pelvic floor pain prior to the insertion of the IUD. Now my uterus is the bane of my existence."

For Birth Control "I was on the pill for years until I had a pregnancy scare and my doctor recommended I get an IUD instead. The part that hurt the worst was when she had to clamp the cervix to hold it in place while she inserted the IUD. The rest just felt like really bad menstrual cramps. I bled quite a bit and felt a little dizzy afterward. Stayed home from work that day, was quite crampy. Bleeding and mild off and on cramps lasted for about a week. It's been great since then though. I noticed some weight loss. No more mood swings anymore due to the lower dose of hormones. My periods are regular almost like clockwork. Some cramping but nothing terrible. And it's good for 5 years... highly recommend this."

For Birth Control "I had it inserted early December 2021. I basically had to sing because while I was on two pain medications, it wasn't enough and felt like I was getting stabbed down there during the insertion and nearly passed out. For the next 5 weeks, I was bleeding heavily and cramping, my hips and back were hurting all the time, including a comfortable sleeping position, so I go to sleep in pain. My libido just disappeared, and I went into a heavy severe depression with horrible mood swings and suicidal thoughts for no reason. My gyno dismissed this as 'It's just the hormones, this just takes time,' and he canceled my last appointment to see if there's anything wrong with the IUD. I just wanted to stop my heavy periods and PMDD. I didn't know it was going to be like this."
