Levofloxacin "I was scared to death prior to taking this medicine due to the reviews I read. I’ve been on this medicine for 5 days now, and I’ve been drinking plenty of water and taking probiotics along with the antibiotic. I haven’t been able to eat much due to having no appetite, and it gives me frequent headaches, but other than that, I haven’t had any other major issues."

"This medication is awful. I get body aches, muscle and tendon aches, irregular heartbeat, mental issues, and severe headaches. Yes, it will clear the infection if you live through it. I'm a heart and stroke victim previous to the medicine, this stuff I don't need. Use it at your own risk."

Levofloxacin "Taking Levaquin was absolutely horrible for me. I took 750 mg per day for ten days. I was prescribed it for a UTI and kidney infection, and my symptoms not only got three times worse, but I developed a pink rash on my face, and my bones and muscles felt horrible, like I was being stabbed with ice picks everywhere. I also had zero appetite and a hard time swallowing when forcing myself to eat. I think it's safe to say I'm having those side effects. Hopefully, you all have better luck with it!"

"I have never had any problems with other antibiotics, but this one was so bad. I became so dizzy, and I almost felt like I had a heart attack. Please don't take this antibiotic because it is so dangerous. Shame on all those doctors prescribing this stuff."

"My questionable doctor prescribed levofloxacin for my UTI. He didn't even ask what kind of problems I have (I have an inborn heart condition). After taking my first pill, I felt as if there was a stone in my stomach, also nausea a bit. The next day, I had diarrhea and thought that maybe I got cold, so I took Imodium. After 7 days, I had severe diarrhea (5 times), my blood pressure (systolic 50) dropped suddenly, and I fainted in the bathroom. My husband took me to the hospital, they stabilized my pressure and also did an enema. Now one more week has passed, and I cannot eat any normal things. My stomach burns whenever I eat something. I have occasional heartaches, and that doctor doesn't even answer my phone calls. And my UTI isn't treated. So nice job, this medicine made me sicker than I had already been."

"This drug levofloxacin has ruined my life. Aug. 2018, I was prescribed this drug by my primary care. After 4 days on the medication, I was rushed to the ER. Levofloxacin has caused me severe side effects: 2 torn tendons, tendonitis in my feet, legs, and arms. It has affected the nerves in my feet. There are days I cannot walk or function. It has been 14 months of complete pain and frustration. There is no help for me. I have to spend the rest of my life in pain and not having a quality of life. I do not understand why this drug has been on the market and that doctors are prescribing this drug. My primary care said she did not know the side effects. That, to me, is criminal."

Levofloxacin "I'm allergic to penicillin and, more recently, Keflex - a not uncommon occurrence in those with penicillin allergy. Prior to allergy, Keflex was slow to work and caused nausea whether taken mid-meal or on an empty stomach. I've used Levaquin for stubborn sinus infections and, more recently, my first UTI. The first time I took it, I experienced muscle soreness. With each subsequent prescription, the side effects have vanished, and its efficacy has not diminished. Of note for those who give up on it due to nausea and muscle aches: hydration helps reduce the symptoms. This medication is not for those with certain heart issues or on some medications for mental health diagnoses."

Levofloxacin "I was on a 3-day dose, and wouldn't have been able to stay on it any longer than that. My skin became red and dry. It felt like I had a full-body sunburn. It did its job as far as my infection, but now I always list this drug when asked for drug allergies."

Levofloxacin "I have taken this medication twice for a UTI. The first time I had no side effects, and it got rid of the UTI, as well as a very mild sinus infection I didn't realize I had. The second time I went on it, I only took one dose. About a half hour after taking the dose, I was really jittery and hyper and hadn't consumed any caffeine, but I didn't really think much of it. The restlessness got worse, and at around 8, I started having olfactory hallucinations. I also started thinking my husband was plotting against me, and I had insomnia. It was a miserable night. At around 1 in the morning, it started to wear off, and I realized I was having some sort of psychiatric side effect and then read that was a possible side effect. I stopped taking it, and it completely wore off within a couple of days. I called and left a message for the doctor and also sent a detailed email to her, and she never followed up with me... oh well."

"Do NOT take this medication at all costs!! Ended up in the ER after 3 dosages. Doctors can't tell what's going on with me. I'm going to see another doc this week to do more tests. I still feel very dizzy, weak, having heart palpitations, can't concentrate, anxious, depressed... I'm going crazy because of this stupid drug!!"

Levofloxacin "I only took one pill. Within minutes I had a reaction. One dose was enough to make my face red as a tomato, sore all over, and light hallucinations. Doctor said 95% have no problem. But I notice in these reviews 41% were negative. It did clear up my infection though! Surprised it’s still on the market."

"This was my second time taking levofloxacin. First time had no problems. This time, however, after my 5th dose out of 7, I developed severe tendonitis in my hands, feet, and knees. The first morning I woke up with this pain, I could only close my hands about halfway. I discontinued the medicine, and thankfully, the pain went away after a few days."

"I have neuropathy, dizziness, headache, nausea, tremors, insomnia, muscle soreness, depression, lightheadedness, severe fatigue. I could go on. I'm angry the doctor would prescribe this drug to me after telling him my medical history (lupus & SCA 2 ataxia, a very rare hereditary neurological disorder) for my first UTI. He didn't try another type of antibiotic first. This is poison!"

"I feel so weird on Cipro, Bactrim, and two other prescriptions, and was so scared to try this one because I was told it was one of the strongest! However, I was shocked when I felt great taking them, not even the usual odd hazy feeling with the infection (UTI) that I usually get. I was quite happy."

"If you're an anxious person like myself, you're googling reviews because your doctor prescribed this medicine and you're scared to take it. When I tell you I am the most anxious person about medicine you'll ever meet, I'm not exaggerating... I've had a UTI for months and been given 4 different antibiotics that were all 7 days each. NONE of them worked. The symptoms would get better but never go away and a few weeks after finishing the antibiotic, they would be worse than before. My most recent urine analysis showed that my infection is resistant to all but 2 antibiotics now. Levofloxacin and Linezolid. Linezolid is usually given in a hospital and costs $325 per pill so that was an absolute NO for me. Levaquin I've taken many times in the past and NEVER had a bad reaction! I have crippling anxiety 24/7, emetophobia and I already have issues with sleep so while this medicine sounds like the exact opposite of what I should be taking, it's the only thing that works! Don't be afraid!"

"I was given 500 mg Levofloxacin for a UTI infection. Severe lower back pain that comes and goes. Pain in my legs that comes and goes. Horrible medicine. Now I know it's an Anthrax drug, which I have refused to take in the past. My doctor just slipped this one in under a name different than Ciprofloxacin. I would not recommend this medicine to anyone unless they have Anthrax. Try Keflex. It's a great drug with very few side effects."

"Taking for UTI, taken before while I was on chemo/radiation worked great. 9 months later, I couldn't get out of bed, my muscles in back neck hurt. If I moved wrong, muscle spasms took Advil, seemed to help sleep in chair all night. Stopped taking... sucks 'cause I'm on vacation."

"I took my first dose last night for a UTI. I wasn’t told to not take it before bed, so I did at 10:30 pm. I was very tired when I took it, and it started with me progressively becoming more and more wired, with a plethora of bad reactions to follow. My heart was racing, I had trouble breathing, and had to concentrate on my breathing. I began to have a panic attack. At some point, I woke my husband up because I was not only having a panic attack, I was having weird, not normal thoughts at that point. My face felt like it was distorted and like my eyes were bugging out of my face. I was wondering why my husband wasn’t mentioning my distorted face and had to get up and look in the mirror to see what I looked like. I think I was having a hallucination or something. I had a bad taste in my mouth and smell in my nose that continued 22 hours later. This drug was a nightmare, and I couldn’t even sleep until 7:30 am. I never want to experience that again. I will do my research before I take a drug again."

"I was prescribed levofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 10 days. I woke up to a pounding heartbeat at about 3 am. I felt numb on the right side of my body. I had tingly sensations all over my body. I couldn't sleep, my ears rang, my hands and feet were tingly. Unfortunately, I never suspected this drug because I was taking it with other drugs. My eyes were swollen, my knee, my ankle, and the back of my neck hurt so bad. My fingers ached. I had a bump on my wrist, but it went away after 2 days. I had blisters in my mouth, urticaria. My teeth felt like they were being plucked. I had tightness in my throat. I was able to finish the prescription. By then, I was curious and started browsing. Lo and behold! All I could say is, Oh my God. I am still experiencing these effects."

"I had an awful experience with this medicine. It caused joint pain behind my knees, my hands were constantly falling asleep/tingling. I got a yeast infection, I've been shaking, weird mood instability, and I'm sure other issues I have pinpointed to this drug yet. I would highly NOT recommend this drug, I've never really had any adverse effects with a drug until now."

"In 2007, took this med for a urinary tract infection, the emergency doctor gave it to me. I luckily took one pill and immediately had a horrid reaction. The next day, the infection was really bad. I went to another doctor who gave me a classic antibiotic, and in two days, I got a bit better, then finally great. The rest of the year, I couldn't lift my feet, stumbled unexpectedly, and had spasms in my back legs. No one knew then, I guess, but suddenly noticed my tendons were really thick and rigid. I had been a runner and jumper, now I couldn't walk. Now, ten years later, I have to massage my legs on and off all day to restart circulation. Also, I have a liver problem with varices, but no normal symptoms or markers. All seem related to that single damn pill. Thank goodness I only took one. It has ruined my life for any activity, and now the pain and rigidity have set in muscle cramps a lot. Now I know why! DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG. I ONLY TOOK ONE PILL AND IT RUINED MY LIVELIHOOD, not worth it."

"I took a total of two 750 mg pills in two days. The day after the first pill, I woke up, and both my calf muscles felt extremely sore and very tight. I decided to press forward because I wanted to clear up my infection. Later on at night, after I took pill two, I had the sensation of pins and needles radiating throughout my body. I thought to myself, something's not right. I decided not to take any more. When I woke up in the morning after day two, I could barely step down on my feet and walk. I've been off for 4 days now, and my symptoms seem to be clearing up slowly. Very slowly. I'm unsure how people take this medication for 5, 7, 10, or even 14 days or more. It will ruin your muscles and tendons and can cause you to become disabled very quickly."

"I took levofloxacin on October 8th, 2021. The doctor nor the pharmacy counseled me about damage to tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints or the effects to my central nervous system. I was ill and did not see the warning papers in the pharmacy bag. These types of antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, are dangerous and should not be prescribed so carelessly. Thousands of people have been injured from fluoroquinolones. Big Pharma strikes again, and now I am facing a lifetime of pain and suffering. Since taking ciprofloxacin for several years, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, RA, restless leg syndrome, and depression. Now connecting the dots, my symptoms are all fluoroquinolone toxicity."
