"The most common side effect (several times per day) is hot flashes. Also, depression and anxiety, especially at night. I am on the 6-month interval for prostate cancer. I have also experienced loss of muscle mass and increased belly fat but have been able to counter these side effects with increased exercise, especially weight lifting. My testicles have shrunk noticeably and my desire for sex has dramatically decreased, although not entirely. I am able to attain an erection with medication but not fully and not long-lasting. I use Sildenafil."

Leuprolide "I can sure relate to all of these Eligard reviews. She 70, diagnosed about 20 months ago. I don't recall Gleason numbers, PSA was 5.7. I had 28 radiation treatments and started Eligard. Just had the 4th shot and last. Miserable side effects. Body aches, endless peeing, shrunken penis, heart flutter, left arm pain on occasion, massive hot flashes, light-headed. Good part? PSA at .0004."

"I had prostate cancer that had metastasized and was given the 3-month leuprolide shot along with Casodex; within 24-48 hours, I had horrible side effects: memory loss, couldn't walk or even stand up, dizziness, weakness. Three days later, I was taken to the ER and had blood clots in my lung. I do not recommend the leuprolide and Casodex combination. Not sure which one is worse, but I would give it a -1 rating if available."

Leuprolide "65-year-old who had a Prostectomy in Dec 2022. Psa was still elevated after surgery. PET scan revealed PC in pelvic lymph nodes. Prescribed salvage radiation and ADT. On med for 5 months now (2 three-month 22.5 injections). PSA was undetectable at the time of the 2nd injection. So I guess it works, or was it the 37 radiation treatments I received in Jun/July. Won't know unless I discontinue Lupron. As for side effects, they have been somewhat minimal. Libido gone. Loss of pubic hair but returning, a decrease in the size of the penis but returning, weight gain of 5-8 pounds. Hot flashes, but they have decreased significantly (I take Vitamin E). I have joint pain, especially in hands, but I am hoping Vitamin D will help. Sleep is getting much better. My mood has been very good. I exercise frequently, eat healthy, and have no stress. I think that helps a lot. I think I will continue with injections. The doc wants to do 2 years of injections. Overall, not too bad."

Leuprolide "Tried Lupron Depot every 3 months two times, but severe fatigue, occasional dizziness, and passed out. Side effects were not acceptable to me. Orgovyx + Xtandi is much better. Although, without testosterone: fatigue, no erection, lack of enthusiasm, and weight gain."

Leuprolide "Diagnosed with prostate cancer with a Gleason 7, PSA 8.2. Received a 6-month Lupron shot on Nov 15, 2022, and 20 sessions of radiation starting Jan. 18, 2023. I have suffered hot flashes several times a day and night, and they have become more intense in the last 6 weeks, by that, I mean I get completely soaked several times a day and night. I have gained around 20 pounds, have a loss of muscle strength, neuropathy in my hands, bone pains in my feet, back pain, mood swings, and lack of motivation to get moving. I do ride my bicycle several times a week, about 100-plus miles, and this is how I keep my sanity. Last appointment with the doctor was on May 15."

Leuprolide "76YO. Got Bicalutamide pills and a Lupron shot twice before my 'High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)' operation to kill my prostate in 2019. Fatigue was my worst side effect. Did serious and intense Max Gerson Cancer Protocol therapy for three years. Totally off alcohol and mostly vegetarian. Mostly no carbs. Lost twenty pounds. When PSA started creeping up, my urologist put me on strictly Bicalutamide pills once a day (50mg). Negligible PSA for almost two years until tender breast and some enlargement took me off it. Been off for six months and back to normal in every way, including testosterone. PSA is creeping up again, and I think I will go back to the pills but only once or twice a week and see how my PSA does. I get the PSA checked every other month. I feel very good."

"Had a radical prostatectomy in 2009. Discovered to have spread to the spine in 2017 and was told I would be on Lupron till 'the end.' For me, the most telling effect apart from weight gain and hair loss (chest) has been the incredible emotional rollercoaster I have been on! What is especially striking is the fact that memories from 25 years ago and the split from my first wife seem more 'real' to me now than my current state! The pain of those old memories and regrets is exceedingly intense! Very strange!!! In fact, those old emotions became so powerful I sought out a psychiatrist to help me cope. Lorazepam has proven to be a godsend!"

Leuprolide "Some hot flashes for short periods when thinking hard and only for maybe 2 or 3 minutes. Zero sex drive. Maybe joint pain. Maybe less energy. PSA at 0.25 after 3 or 4 months. There is some merit in not wanting to have sex often for that has been cured."

Leuprolide "Given all the things that testosterone regulates in the male body, none of the side effects are unexpected. My blood work indicates that it’s working. The hot flashes, weight gain, fatigue, and mild vertigo (among other side effects) subsided in a few months, just in time for the next every-four-month injection."

Leuprolide "The worst effect (in combination with Zytega and prednisone) is numbness of the feet and ankles, and intense tingling of legs. Both effects make sleeping nearly impossible. Also, weakness, muscle and joint pain, and atrophy of testicles. I take two Zytega tablets and one prednisone tablet daily. My PSA is consistently less than 0.04, which I believe is the detection limit. I have been taking these meds for 9 months post-surgery and radiation."

Leuprolide "I have been on Lupron for 20 months now, and it reduced my PSA from .64 to undetectable. The side effects for me have been hot flashes a couple of times a day, loss of body hair, 20 pounds of weight gain, and complete loss of my sexual function and appetite. I will be going off Lupron when this shot wears off in a couple of months. I have been receiving the 6-month shot. I am 67 years old and have high-risk prostate cancer, have had my prostate removed, and went through 38 rounds of radiation. I feel I am doing as well as can be expected and do everything I like to do minus my libido. Good luck to all!"

Leuprolide "80-year-old male. Semiannual blood test showed PSA >10. PCP sent me to a urologist with further tests showing prostate cancer. Urologist sent me to a radiation oncologist and chemo oncologist. About 30 radiation treatments and chemo including Abiraterone Acetate and prednisone along with quarterly Lupron shots (22.5 mg). PCP added glipizide to control spike in glucose level. Testosterone dropped and PSA dropped from a high of 50 to 0.08. I am very active and found a large drop in energy and strength and tired easily. Also found that I could easily compensate by taking short breaks and recognizing that it affected my overall strength. Limited and targeted gym workouts, take a 5-minute break every 30 minutes on long hikes. Now cancer-free and talking with my chemo oncologist about steps and time to terminate all four drugs, Lupron Depot, Abiraterone Acetate, prednisone, and glipizide to start regaining strength. Benefits - these four drugs and the radiation killed my cancer!"

Leuprolide "I have been on Lupron three and a half years. I started the 6-month injections but switched to the 3-month. Within two months, my testosterone was undetectable. My side effects are mainly fatigue and muscle loss, also blurred vision. My PSA started at 1000 to undetectable in 2 months."

Leuprolide "The side effects were horrid, and I was stuck with them for 3 months. These included high blood pressure, dizziness (trouble walking), hot flashes every hour, day and night, fatigue, loss of weight, change in smell and taste, nausea, and headaches. Leupron, which is given intramuscularly, had fewer side effects and seemed to release more evenly than this subcutaneous copycat."

Leuprolide "The 7 months of treatment I am on, along with 9 weeks of radiation, appears to be working well. My PSA (with stage 3 prostate cancer) went from 7+ to 0.05. That said, I am fighting brain fog, fatigue, slight weight gain, loss of sexual interest, nearly chronic dry cough, general itching, and joint and muscle pain. Looking forward to the product wearing off starting around 6 weeks from now. Strongly recommend resistance exercise, it helps a great deal!"

"I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer-non-metastatic-in July 2019, with a Gleason score of 9, 8, and 7. Began Elegard/Lupron in August 2019, 2 months prior to 45 days of radiation, and have continued on a 4-month regimen of Lupron injections. During the first year on this drug, I had the basic side effects of hot flashes, chills, mood swings, and some aches. Now going into the second year on Lupron, I have severe side effects with a lump on my left knee with severe swelling with overuse; pain in my hips and shoulders that come and go; tingling and numbness in my hands that wake me up at night; ringing in my ears; fatigue; and I have lost the ability to use my right thumb that comes and goes like severe arthritis. I was previously a very calm and caring person, but now I become angry and have high-risk behaviors, not caring if I get into an argument with someone, which I try to control. I used to be an avid runner but cannot do this anymore due to severe pain and swelling in my left leg."

Leuprolide "In 2023, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My oncologist did 39 radiation treatments 5 times a week and Lupron every 3 months. The radiation was a cakewalk. Just a little bit of a sunburn feeling on the waistline. However, the Lupron gave me terrible side effects. Lethargic, nightly hot flashes, no libido, everything in the book. The doctor wanted me on it for 2 years. I quit the shots after 1 year and never followed up, and moved out of state. Exactly 3 years to the day, I was having lower back pains so severe I went in for a checkup. My PSA was 222. My new physician freaked out and got me referred to an oncologist who started me on chemo and docetaxel along with Eligard. The next week, PSA was 423, the following week was 600, and the next was 963. I had very little to no side effects besides being scared as hell. lol Anyhow, the following week, PSA dropped to 51 and the next week to 5.2. I only needed 6 chemo treatments instead of his original plan of 13."

Leuprolide "I have been on Lupron for 16 (of scheduled 18 months) to help suppress the return of prostate cancer. So far, the cancer is resolved. The side effects for me have been tiredness, mild depression, leg weakness and mild leg pain, mental fog, weakened memory, diminished thought clarity, significant muscle reduction, and lack of energy. Also, occasional diarrhea. Use was probably effective as cancer has not returned."

Leuprolide "I'm 74, and I've been fighting prostate cancer for 8 years: radical prostatectomy, then heavy doses of radiation when the cancer returned the first time. Then another round of radiation when the cancer returned again. Last week, I started hormone therapy (Eligard), and I can barely get out of bed, I am so fatigued. Can anyone tell me if the fatigue situation improves with time? No way I can live with this for very long. Thanks."

Leuprolide "I was diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer. I opted for complete removal of the prostate and follow-up treatment of ADT and radiation treatment. My first injection was June 2023, and the second was January 2024. PSA test every three months since the first injection, and PSA was 0.00. I experienced many of the normal side effects from the Lupron injections, the worst has been the fatigue, joint pain, sweats, and hot flashes. It has been almost a year since my last injection. I still have some lingering side effects, with the worst and most often the sweats and hot flashes."
