"30 mg was good, but 40 mg took my pain away, it was heaven. Except that 40 mg made me so tired and drowsy that all I did was sleep. I couldn't function, so that's not acceptable. I would go to bed at 7 pm and wake up at 4 pm the next day! So I'm going back to 30 mg with breakthrough meds. But here is the thing I can't figure out... I take up to 10-15 mg hydrocodone for breakthrough pain ON TOP of my Hysingla ER 30, but that doesn't make me sleepy, it actually kind of keeps me up at night. How bizarre is that? It's the same dosage but reacts completely different. That annoys me because the 40 worked perfectly!!! Except for the severe drowsiness. How can Hysingla ER 40 mg be so much more sedating than Hysingla ER 30 mg with 10-15 mg hydrocodone on top???"

"Hysingla ER was a blessing for me! I have been dealing with severe chronic pain for 16 years. When the doctor first told me about it, I was very skeptical and at the point where I told the doctor I was ready to have surgery. I switched my pain medicine from OxyContin ER 20 mg, 2 times a day, and Norco 10 mg, 2 times a day for breakthrough pain. I was still watching the clock because I was still in pain, waiting for the next dose of pain relief. Now I only need 1 Hysingla ER 30 mg. Amazing! The pain does not control me, I never thought I would know what it felt like! If you're curious about Hysingla ER, ask your doctor. Severely herniated L5/S1 protrudes 7 mm and C3/4 protrudes 4-5 mm."

"I have chronic pain with my lower back, neck, and fibromyalgia. Currently took Norco 10/325 every 4 hrs. Dr started me on Hysingla ER 40mg a week ago, and I am miserable. Absolutely NO pain control whatsoever! I have called the doctor three times in the last week, he said to continue taking it as it's the same dose I was currently taking. It is NOT working for my pain at all. I take it first thing in the morning, and I am allowed one breakthrough Norco. Anyone else have the same issue? I am disgusted with my pain management doctor because he is NOT listening! Help."

"I took one dose. I had no reduction in pain compared to Norco 10/325, 2-3 a day. In fact, I had more pain. Terrible side effects including a spike in blood pressure, headache, felt woozy, rapid pulse, and what I believe to be an anxiety attack. It was a nightmare, and all I could do was wait for it to finally wear off. I have impaired kidneys, so it took 36 hours to leave my system. Horrible experience!"

"I was switched from Norco 5 mg 4 times daily to Zohydro ER 10 mg 2 times daily with Norco 5 mg 2 times daily for breakthrough pain. I tore my ACL several years ago and decided to finally have surgery. It has been many years of restless, painful nights of trying to sleep. Since starting the Zohydro, my knee no longer has that constant ache that doesn't go away. I can walk on my knee and do hours of activity without my knee being in pain. I have been on Zohydro for about 3 months. My next visit we will be doing an increase, which hopefully will mean less breakthrough pain medication. Zohydro ER does work for chronic pain. Very grateful for this medication!!"

"Before this drug, my pain was so extreme that I physically couldn't get out of bed or do any housework. I was miserable, to say the least. I went from taking 4 Percocet a day (5mg) to taking 20mg Hysingla, still with 1 or 2 Percocet for breakthrough pain. This medication, after a couple of days, has improved my life so much that I am still in shock from the relief. People only see the bad reviews on here and get scared like I did! I had no bad side effects, and every time I felt bad pain, shortly later it was relieved. And unlike some other '24-hour' extended-release drugs, this one really does last around the clock. Please, if you have relief with this medication, share your experience so others can see the good as well when they come to this website! I hope your experience is as successful as mine has been so far."

"Changed from several pills a day to the new Hysingla ER. Was hoping it was something I would like better for just once a day. I do NOT like this medication. You cannot control the peaks due to it being time-released and it's unpredictable. Causes my eyes to feel heavy and hot. You cannot drink at all with this drug, it will cause the medication to be released too quickly, possible overdose. I don't like having no control and I was having breakthrough pain as well."

"This has been the most costly, ineffective, pain-causing nightmare of my life! Not only did my insurance company deny its use, it actually caused more musculoskeletal pain than I already have! My joints feel like they have all been run over by a truck! The side effects are horrible! I only just figured out today, after being on this medication for the past 3 weeks, that the actual medication was making my pain worse! I have so much joint pain that I can barely get out of bed, not to mention the constant headache and severe fatigue! I will definitely not continue this medication, in fact, as of today, I am done and am going back to OxyContin. It may have a terrible reputation for being addictive, but at least no side effects!"

"My doc switched me to this due to some issues with morphine sulfate ER 15 mg three times a day. He put me on the Hysingla ER at 20 mg once a day with the oxy 15 mg x 2 for breakthrough pain. Been on it for two days and am in constant pain at a 6/7 level. With the other med, I was 4/5 on bad days. So disappointed, not to mention the cost is more than double for me. Don't know if the dose is just too low considering how long I've been on pain meds. Guess I could ask him to up it to 40 mg and see if that works. 20 mg isn't hacking it at all. So tired of the government sticking its nose into my health."

"I just started taking Zohydro ER 15 mg 2 X's per day. I've got to say, so far it seems to be working pretty well. I have had two very significant car wrecks since 2004. The second wreck was in 2012 and was pretty much a career ender. I have been taking Norco, various doses (usually 7.5/325 and 10/325) 'off & on' for approximately 12 years. I know, a long time, right?! That said, I believe, speaking only for myself, that I am pretty aware of the effects and feelings of hydrocodone. That once warm, euphoric feeling is long gone; but now the euphoria comes from a greatly improved quality of life, rather than the drug itself... I probably need to increase to 40 mg doses. But Zohydro is 'spot on.' Terrific for long-acting relief."

"I have been constantly on pain medication for 6 years due to a wrecked back. I was on Hydrocodone 7.5 4x a day; it worked fine, but when you take the same meds, no matter what it is, over 6 years it doesn't work as well after a while. So I talked with my doctor and he decided I needed to try Hysingla 20 mg and assured me it would work great. Well, after two weeks of sleepless nights and loss of work, I had had it!! This was the biggest waste of my money and time. Not only is this crap costing twice as much with my insurance, but it does not work! I understand why doctors would want to try it; for fear of opiate abuse, but this is causing more and more people who are truly in need pain!!!"

"My doctor just put me on Hysingla ER about a week ago. I take them faithfully every morning at 10 a.m., and every morning I wake up with withdrawals. I have to take 2-4 hydros besides the ER during the day for breakthrough pain. When I wake up in the morning, wow!!! My heart races, my palms are sweaty, extreme anxiety. I've been having to take a regular hydro in the mornings before the Hysingla ER just to tolerate the withdrawals and pain! Maybe being that it has only been going on 1 week since starting, that it's wearing off before the 24 hours. Not sure, but I know this never happened with OxyContin. Will have to wait and see, if not better by my next appointment, I am definitely changing medications."

"I have been taking Zohydro now for about 3 months, and what a difference it has made. My doctor will be increasing the dosage from the 20 mg to the 40 mg because I still take hydrocodone for breakthrough pain, and the Zohydro doesn't quite take the pain away at the current 20 mg. I started at a lower dose to see if there were any reactions to the medication, and to date, I have had none. It doesn't last the 12 hours as it says, but that has been the case with any time-released meds that I have tried due to my metabolism. It is hard to find, and CVS Pharmacy has paperwork that their corporate office has to have completed before they will fill the prescription, and that can take a month. Insurance did cover it after a formulary exemption was filed."

"Was taking 10 7.5/325 daily for severe autoimmune joint foot pain and nerve pain. 60 mg time release. 9 out of 10 days I'm fully functional like a normal mom. My only issue is IBS... if I take it in the AM and have my guts evacuate, I am forced to suffer with only my 3 daily allowed breakthrough pain medications. Then if I don't double up the breakthrough, the withdrawal symptoms cause my guts to keep dumping. I have slow digestion and it works about 19 to 22 hours. I imagine a regular digestive system would burn through this medicine before 24 hours. I tried it at night first and really enjoyed waking up without pain but had trouble the last 3 hours before the next dose. I would rather spend those wasted hours in bed each morning."

"I have herniated disks and did the usual, PT, spinal injections, Norco. I also have a liver condition and told the doctor I would like to try something easier on the liver, so Hysingla saved the day. Works like Norco minus the Tylenol. I wouldn't have walked again without it. Not sure about all the negative reviews, I think it works great!"

"I'm used to Norco 10/325, and I take four a day due to my job and major back problems. I switched to Hysingla ER 40 once a day, and it hasn't helped at all. I'm still in pain as I lay here, and I haven't even noticed anything from the medication, it's like Tylenol or something. You're better off with almost anything else. Good luck to others."

"I have horrible low back and hip problems. I have been taking Hysingla for several years now. It doesn't alleviate all of my pain, but it helps enough that I am able to function. Without Hysingla, it is difficult for me to sit, stand, and walk. I would recommend it to others. Keep in mind that everyone doesn't respond to medicines the same way, so they need to work with their doctor to find something that will work."

"I'm having a terrible time with the Hysingla. The 40 mg was so strong I couldn't function. I've been on 30 mg for a week. The headaches, I'm tired all the time, cramping. Overall, I feel like crap. I have nothing for breakout pain but Tylenol. I understand why doctors prescribe this because of abuse, but I have only taken what's prescribed. It's bad enough that I'm actually on a forum complaining."

"My doctor changed me from being on Norco 10/325 to Hysingla ER, and they keep lowering my dose. In my opinion, the Hysingla doesn't work as well, and the pain keeps getting worse. Why are doctors cutting medicine doses down on people who are in real pain, just because so many others sell their meds and lie about pain."

"I was taking OxyContin 20 with oxycodone 15 for breakthrough qid for severe back pain/spinal stenosis. Previous surgery 30 years ago and no known surgery to help except the experimental approaches with cages to lift. I'm in the business, so not interested. Anyway, knowing my pharmacology, I moved from OxyContin (4 hours half-life) to Zohydro (8 hours half-life). And, it's spot on. Neither is a true BID drug, but Zohydro comes close and gives you maybe 6-7 hours of good sleep, and if you wake up with breakthrough, take an oxycodone, wait 45 minutes, and go back to bed. Don't take another Zohydro. Fairly flexible. Really works well for me. So much better than force-fitting a TID or even a QID OxyContin as a BID. Look at the pharmacodynamics please."

"I have CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome), which is one of the worst chronic pain conditions known to man, and I get a lot of relief from this medication. Prior to Hysingla, I was prescribed Opana ER until it was taken off the market, and I must say I'm thankful for the change. I like the fact that it works without making me feel 'drugged.' The only downside is constipation that requires daily doses of laxatives. There aren't many extended-release choices, but hopefully, more options will become available soon for people that aren't getting relief from Hysingla."

"I've been on this medication for about 4 months now, and I can honestly say it has helped in giving me my life back. I have stage IV endometriosis, a bulging disc that's pressing on nerves in my L4-L5, sciatica, and cervical pain. Before this medication, I was on Nucynta ER, which was crap. I now go to a great pain doctor who promised me that I will get my life back, and they have kept their promise. I take Zohydro 15 mg 2x per day, and Narco 750 for breakthrough, and Flexeril at night. I am now able to sleep at night and make it through the days mostly. I pay a $15 copay because of a prescription card and insurance. My insurance denied it at first, but my doctor advocated for me to them, and they now cover it. I hope this helps someone."

"I have been taking Hysingla 40 ER for approximately 2 weeks. I am experiencing a severe headache, nausea, and the pain has not subsided one bit. I have tried taking this medicine at different times of the day, hoping it was just the time frame. I have severe withdrawal symptoms and cannot function. I'm very close to losing my job. I was not abusing my Norco, why am I being punished for drug addicts??!!!"

"I started taking Hysingla 40 mg about 10 days ago. It does take the pain away about 80% of the time. I wake up through the night with only about 3 hours of sleep. I also have terrible headaches now. I don't know if any of this is related to my medication, as I checked the side effects, but this has only started since then. You would think taking pain medication I wouldn't have headaches. Talking to my pain management doctor next week."

"Beginning month 2 of Zohydro. Cannot believe the negative press! It is a long overdue blessing to chronic pain sufferers. I have multiple back issues and surgeries. The Norco 4x a day was causing about as much issue with my stomach and intestines as helping with pain. Finally asked, is there an option? Pain clinic Dr. said good results with Zohydro! As we are adjusting the dosage, I take 5 mg of Norco for breakthrough pain, but consider that temporary. Me, my back, and stomach are much better with much more level pain relief. Thanks again!"
