For Fibromyalgia "I have osteoarthritis of the spine and have severe muscle aches and pains all day long, and worse at night. I find that when I take 10 ml of Robitussin chest cough mixture, I am pain-free for the day. Another 10 ml guarantees a good night's sleep. Though not confirmed, I suspect I have fibromyalgia, in addition to the osteoarthritis."

Guaifenesin for Cough "I take an MAOI, so I can't use decongestants. I take Mucinex when I start getting a cold or flu. It relieves my cough and congestion, keeps my lungs clear. Yes, it gives me a runny nose, but that's what it's supposed to do: thin the mucus so you can get rid of it. My coughs are fewer, and those I have are productive. Drinking a lot of water or other liquid is essential. I suspect some of the negative reviews are from folks who didn't drink enough. Personally, I would recommend giving it a try, with lots of fluids."

For Fibromyalgia "I had a question rather than a comment. I have read that products with salicylics interfere with the guaifenesin in the Mucinex from working and that you should check all medications, skin products, and supplements before taking it. Has everyone adhered to this that has had good results?"

For Fibromyalgia "I have been on protocol for almost a year. I was a patient of Dr. St. Amand, who has mapped me three times. He said I cleared almost 75% and upped my dose at 7 months. I have since been in agony. Ligaments and tendons tight and painful. Muscles constantly aching and stiff. Fatigue and pain off the charts. I would rather manage my occasional flare than try to do this, so I am discontinuing. Very disappointed."

Guaifenesin for Fibromyalgia "I had a terrible experience with Mucinex. I followed the protocol for just over 1 month, hoping to feel some relief, but I felt really heavy, like I had a bad flu, and had worse pain. I think most people are experiencing relief, so give it a shot; it just didn't help me."

For Bronchitis "Guaifenesin is great for my bronchitis. But, I have learned that whether I take the liquid or tablet, I must eat first. If I take this on an empty stomach, which is what I did about an hour ago, I have such a reaction it almost puts me on my knees. Luckily, within 15 minutes of realizing what was going on, I was able to get something to eat. The first reaction was almost 20 years ago with the liquid, I ended up in the ER. I didn't know what was wrong. Today I took a pill on an empty stomach, and my stomach began to cramp severely within a short time. This was a sinus/mucous relief tablet with guaifenesin. I'm okay now, but do not take guaifenesin on an empty stomach! You don't want to try it first. I'll keep taking it, but eating first."

Guaifenesin for Bronchitis "I began a cough 4 weeks ago. Then the mucus started. Couldn't get it up. Pharmacy suggested Robitussin, which worked okay, but still needed stronger meds. Dr. put me on steroids and antibiotics. Still mucus choking me. Tried Mucinex 600. Nothing. Made me worse. The coughing started and was horrible for about an hour. I stopped using Mucinex and went back to Robitussin. This drug is not for everyone. Would not recommend."

For Fibromyalgia "I am on a low dose and can only tolerate 300 mg twice a day. I started the protocol at age 60 and was bedridden at least one week every month. My average daily pain level was between 8 to 10 out of 10. I was still in constant pain for the first year on the protocol, but my days of being bedridden began to decrease drastically and the pain began to decrease as well. After a year and 8 months on the protocol, I’m rarely bedridden at all and my pain levels have dropped to an average of 4 to 7 on most days. The protocol is not easy to understand, but it is worth all of the effort! I’m beginning to get my life back!"

Guaifenesin for Bronchitis "I'm not sure Mucinex works. I know it kept me wide awake. It was hard for me to sleep. When I was awake, I felt like my balance was off, so I felt dizzy. I couldn't go down spiral steps. I would not recommend it."

Guaifenesin for Bronchitis "Although Mucinex contains the exact same drugs as Robitussin D, it doesn't work nearly as well for me as Robitussin D. Maybe because the Robitussin is a liquid? Mucinex has spent a lot more money on advertising, but I would choose Robitussin D every time!"

For Fibromyalgia "I never thought that an expectorant used to treat coughs could be this effective for fibromyalgia pain. I am a pre-med student, and when I heard about the possibility of Mucinex (guaifenesin) being able to relieve pain caused by fibromyalgia, I decided to try it. It has worked better than NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aleve, celebrex) for me. 400 mg works great (600 mg if using the extended-release tablets)."

For Fibromyalgia "I'll call it 'guf' for short. Guf works, but you have to understand your body. For a cough, it helps by enabling freer breathing, loosens, dissolves phlegm. 'Guf' used for treating fibromyalgia has done wonderfully for me, but you must adhere to a strict diet for at least ten days while dosing. I felt good results in a few days, and it gave me the incentive to keep doing it for 14 days. I felt so good, the diet is described in a small green book called 'What Your Doctor Didn't Tell You About Fibro.'"

For Fibromyalgia "I was on the guaifenesin treatment method of Dr. St. Amand. After 6 months, I could no longer tolerate the pain and exhaustion. Went to another endocrinologist and discovered I have panhypopituitarism, and the pain and exhaustion were from that. Please make sure you are tested for all possible issues. Note: I also discovered that I should have been paying attention to the pain and not assuming it was just part of the guaifenesin treatment. This delayed discovering what was truly wrong."

Guaifenesin for Bronchitis "Have your local compounding pharmacy order you the pure guaifenesin syrup. You do not want the kind in the drugstore because it contains dextromethorphan ... which is probably what others have described as making them sick or drowsy. The brand my pharmacy gets for me is Robafen syrup. You can get a pint for about $8. I have COPD and have used it for years. Robitussin used to make the plain stuff, but I haven't seen it in the stores for a long time. Although it says only take 6 times daily. It's much more soothing to the throat than Mucinex pills and works instantly to get the phlegm out of your lungs. I couldn't live without it!"

Guaifenesin for Bronchitis "After struggling for 3 nights with excessive phlegm and trying literally everything (Expectorants etc...) to loosen up mucus, nothing made me have the real improvement that I needed, until I took the first Mucinex tablet and in the hour improvement did occur to my total surprise how effective it was... I am an anti-medicine guy but the situation was suffocating... I just feel sorry for all people who don't know this medicine that is why I write, so that someone will improve as I did... I rate it at 9 because no medicine can be 10 due to possible side effects, BUT NO SIDE EFFECTS FELT FOR ME AFTER 48 HOURS OF USE."

For Fibromyalgia "I agree it probably doesn't work for the reasons set forth by St. Amand, but it did work for me (complying with the salicylate ban) in the timescales he finds, as follows: 3 days of nothing. Then 2.5 days of feeling great. Then 7 months of feeling worse than ever. Then roughly 2 years of feeling much, much better, but eventually it tailed off to nothing. Still, the only effective FMS/CFS medicine I've tried except for LDN."

Guaifenesin for Bronchitis "I'm reading a lot of reports of Mucinex making people feel worse, as is the case with me. The main ingredient apparently thins down your mucus, so basically, while already sick, this medicine gives you a runny nose. I've taken Mucinex twice and both same results."

For Bronchitis "I have asthma and believe that most of my conditions are allergy-related, however, when I started taking this medication, my breathing ability was dramatically increased, as much as if I had taken my rescue asthma inhaler. If I miss taking a dose after the 4-hour time as prescribed on the bottle, I can tell immediately. If you have asthma, you might want to try this product."

For Bronchitis "I have bronchial asthma. I thought I had bronchitis. I took guaifenesin for it. It felt like my bronchials were closing up on me. I had to call my doctor to tell him to get me prednisone. I took just a half tab of guaifenesin before I went to bed. I woke up spasming. I couldn't breathe. I had to do a couple of nebulizer treatments, take prednisone to open me up. I called my doctor, he said don't take it anymore."

Guaifenesin for Cough "I have had a chronic cough for about 20 years. After many tests for asthma, GERD, and other lung problems, I was diagnosed with neurogenic cough. In other words, they don't know what's causing it. I've tried amitriptyline and a couple of other scripts, didn't do much, and had horrible side effects. I started using the Mucinex 12-hour time release. They calm my cough pretty good. I've been taking them this time for about a month and had my BP checked yesterday by a nurse, and it was 181/98. We checked it twice with her machine and checked it twice with mine. All four readings were in the 180's/90-100+. Now, just a couple of months ago, my reading was 122/78. That is more normal for me. The Mucinex is one of two changes I have made in my life within the last two months. The other was starting the keto diet on September 24th... Has anyone else experienced problems with their BP after taking Mucinex DX? Maybe I'm not drinking enough water. I don't know, but I'm definitely concerned..."

For Fibromyalgia "I have been suffering with fibromyalgia for many years. Guaifenesin 2400 mg to 4800 mg a day loosens my muscles that are tight and painful. I'm able to breathe deeper with the relaxed muscles. My stomach isn't as irritated, and my skin isn't as irritated. My anxiety is lessened. I've also included Ribose powder 10 to 15 mg a day, and it helps with fatigue."

Guaifenesin for Fibromyalgia "I was desperate with severe, throbbing pain, especially at night. I was actually envisioning suicide. In suggesting Mucinex to a friend, I happened to discover that guaifenesin has a moderate muscle-relaxing effect, and then I read some of these reviews. I also read a report of a clinical study that found no effect. Long story short, the women in the clinical study took only 600 mg twice daily, whereas most of the reviewers here seemed to have taken twice that amount. I started doing that too, only yesterday, and today my spasms are largely gone. My conclusion, therefore, is that the clinical study didn't use a large enough dosage."

For Fibromyalgia "Okay, so hear me out. I found this by mistake, and after reading reviews, I can see Mucinex has helped others with fibromyalgia. There is no way it's a placebo. Let me start by saying I've been sick with cold viruses before and have taken the 400 mg doses of Mucinex and never saw a difference in pain. This is the first time I went and picked up the 600 mg extended release to take twice a day vs. the 400 mg twice a day for my chest congestion, and there is a difference. It isn't drastic to where all my pain is gone, but I do have other health and spine conditions, but enough to where I knew something was very different and didn't know what. I figured maybe because I was sick that my body was in a more relaxed state, so my pain was down, but I never felt this way before, ever. I plan on trying 800-1200 twice a day, but so far I'm extremely impressed, even with the 600 mg extended release twice a day. I've only been taking it for 3 days, and waking up without morning stiffness is huge!"

Guaifenesin "Absolutely terrible medication. Took it one time, only one pill, for a cold and had a severe reaction that has put me in the hospital multiple times. Had severe panic attacks, tremors, the feeling of doom, severe burning throughout my entire body, high blood pressure, and heart palpitations, and felt like I was going to die. I was afraid to sleep. It's been almost 3 months since I last took this medication, and I haven't been right since. It messed with my neurological system and my nervous system. I've been constantly worried about my health ever since. I've seen so many other reviews of people having the same experience. My doctors had no idea what was going on with me, but I knew instantly right after taking this medication that something wasn't right. I can't believe this stuff is legal. Please beware of this medication, especially if you're sensitive to it, and really do your research before trying it. I would rather deal with the cold symptoms than be put through hell like I have been on this stuff."

Guaifenesin for Cough "I swear by this stuff. (I'm talking about Mucinex's version of Theraflu, it's fairly new-maybe last year it was put on the shelves.) I have tried nearly every cold remedy in the history of the world, from teas to drugs to more wholesome remedies, but nothing has actually ever worked. This stuff actually reduces the duration of my colds and the severity of colds within the first day. Drink it in the morning and once before bed, and you should be golden in 2 days. I'm more of that summertime cold-getter, and it works like magic every time."
